I'd like posts as my reward. Thank you very much! It was a nice day by Shibuya's main shopping mall. The sun shone brightly, but not enough to inconvenience two of the many humans that were strolling there at the moment. A very tall woman with a gentle expression who was holding her youngest daughter's hand as they were window-shopping.
Who knows, maybe one day, that little brunette would become as tall, or maybe even taller than her! For now, it was extremely adorable to see that little girl stare in amazement at the many articles of clothing, and especially at any dresses her eyes came across. Could it be that she was dreaming of wearing those someday? Or maybe something completely different?
Sometimes, Amelie's mind was a true enigma. Even to her own mother!
"Mommy~!" The small voice roused the older woman from her reverie. She couldn't dwell in her thoughts in the company of such a ball of energy, could she? Quickly, the younger female did a gesture that her mother understood perfectly.
Not quite an emergency, but still something they had to take care of as soon as possible As the toilet was flushed, a sigh of relief escaped Amy's throat. Crisis averted! Now, the only thing she had to do was to fix her clothes a bit, wash her hands and get out of the toilets, and then she would be successful! Never again would her ability to go to the toilets on her own be questioned!
A true pity that her priorities would shift rather violently in the wake of a strange event. Almost as if it were a fallen tree's trunk, something smashed against the room's ceiling, sending debris flying around, and blocking the toilet's only exit.
Amelie froze in her place. Besides one or two scratches and her dress getting a bit dirty, she seemed to be fine, but the shock that this situation had caused would take a bit of time to wear off.
What was happening, exactly?

I shall ask for bits for my reward, kind sir/madam.
"Oh my goodness, is that...-"
"Yes, I'm afraid it's a human child, and in mortal danger, it appears."
Swanmon had her feathers to her bill, and horror had drawn itself across her face. She raised a wing to block her class's view, a small group consisting of a Motimon, a pair of Koromon, a Chilomon, and a Yokomon. All of which were desperate to witness what their teacher was concealing from them.
"She's only a child!" Swanmon panicked. "You have to do something!"
"Calm down, maam," replied the smooth talking Mercurymon. "There is a high likelihood she will be rescued by her parental units. I'm simply showing you why we need more recruits to -"
Swanmon snapped. "Nevermind the recruits!" She stepped forward threateningly, a thunderous scowl on her forehead. Despite the age difference, the Mercurymon visibly faltered. He was suddenly not so sure about coming to the Village of Beginnings for an 'educational experience'.
In fact, it seemed very likely he was about to get schooled.
"Oh no, here she goes again," one of the Koromon whispered to the Chilomon next to him.
The Chilomon was transfixed, however, on the Mercurymon's mirror. In it, wasn't a reflection, but an entirely different world. And in that world, a young girl. "She needs help," he said weakly.
By now, everyone was either too busy enjoying the fact that someone else was on Swanmon's receiving end, or being given hell by the so-called 'white fury'. So instead, Chilomon wandered up to Mercurymon's mirror, who was so distracted that he didn't even realise Chilomon was about to touch it.
"WHOAH! CHILOMON'S GONNA TOUCH THE MIRROR!" Screamed Motimon. Everyone immediately turned to Chilomon.
He was gone.
Silence perpetuated the room. Swanmon's face turned from shock, to disbelief, to rage.
Motimon was first to voice the situation. "Oh shi-"
...
Chilomon couldn't breathe. One minute he was in deep space, the next minute he was burning. His vision was blue and red. Electric currents flew through him. Then, he was dunked out of water.
As if the world was a videogame, a huge, digital grid appeared, suspended in the blue sky, and out of it popped a small, green bug. As if it's job was finished, the grid vanished and the bug fell to the earth.
Which was pretty unnoticeable, considering the giant helmet-wearing Chameleon that was currently trashing a mall. Its whiplike tail had just slammed into a non-descript area of the building, and sent a flock of roosting birds packing. "Long live the Allegiance! This is for the Great Chilling!"
Chilomon realised he had no idea what the Chamelemon was saying, just before he bounced off its head and landed inside the destroyed building. When he opened his eyes, he saw shards of porcelain, wood, and a pair of... shoes?
Connected to the shoes were legs... and... the girl!
Sensing that there would be an awkward silence, he decided to talk first.
"I came to ask if you were okay. ... Are you okay?"

Everything was so strange at the moment. Little Amelie could barely understand what was happening, or why it was happening to her, of all people. Wasn't she a good girl? As far as she remembered, the last time somebody misbehaved, it had been Valerie! So, why were the buildings crashing and crumbling around her? Surely, there was a catch regarding this; there had to be.
Words about allegiances and chillings felt on deaf ears at the appearance of what looked like a giant reptile. Cold sweat began to run in the back of her neck. Just... just what was that supposed to be? Monsters weren't real, Yvonne had told her that, and she was always right! So, why was that thing in front of her?
The answer to those questions was elusive, and probably would never be found, mostly because the little girl didn't know who to ask, or even if it was something worthwhile to do. Right now, trying to resist the panic that threatened to creep into her being was her highest priority.
But, what could she do? She was trapped, and there was no escape in sight for, not even... wait, was something talking? Trying to find the owner of that small voice, Amy gazed down until she found a small, plant-like thing? It looked pretty weird, but somehow, she felt like it was friendly. Or as friendly as those things could be.
Slowly, the girl scooped him up, and hugged the small being tightly. He was a bit prickly, but that was fine. "I think..." Amelie felt a knot forming on her throat, her voice barely escaping it; she had to force herself to talk. "I think I'm okay, but... I'm scared. Can you get me to mommy?"
He probably didn't even know what she was talking about, but... there was no harm in at least trying, right?

The Chilomon stared up from the girl's arms, enraptured by her words. At least she seemed OK.
"I think so... What does she look like?" Chilomon was sure that he knew what a mother was. It made him feel sad. Something about mothers was very... sad. The thought that the girl couldn't find her mother was sad too. It made him determined.
Even if his antennae were drooping and his eyes were just slightly watery. He sniffled it away.
But before he could say anything else to help, a deafening barrage of sound surrounded them. Bullets! Whizzing past them! All around them, small, brown shells were embedded into the tiled floors and walls.
"Wait... those aren't bullets! They're acorns!"
Suddenly, all around them, the acorns burst to life. Green, leafy stems erupted and shot up to the sky, pushing aside rooftops and masonry to make way for their heady stems.
And also providing a potential route of escape from the rampaging lizard.
A dead electrical wire, hanging from a branch, was quickly being pulled away by a tree's growth.
"Can you hold onto that wire without letting go?" Chilomon suggested, not sure if his charge would understand.

While gingerly holding the small plant-like being, little Amy faced a question she hadn't heard in... never, probably. How was her mom supposed to look like?.Despite her first instinct being to say that she looked 'like mom'. But after swatting those thoughts aside and concentrating real hard, she could finally answer.
"She's very, very tall and has brown hair and was wearing... a small beanie a-and a turtleneck" Would that be good enough? Probably not, but at least it was better than having no clue at all regarding who was the human to look for.
That short-lived moment of communication would be short-lived, however. The sound of the not-quite bullets whizzing past them resulted in the small girl panicking again. She didn't understand the reason why any of this was happening; in the end, little Amy was just scared and wanted to return home more than anything else.
Would the small green bean-like be able to do that? She wasn't all too sure, but she hoped that he had some plan, or maybe that he knew something like she didn't. Just like most grown-ups.
She wanted to believe that he could get them out of this place safe. And that's why she complied to his request, despite the fact that the girl was pretty much sobbing by this point.
Thus, he held to the wire. Would this accomplish anything? Amy wasn't sure, but at least she hoped to not see that lizard or hear any of its gibberish ever again.

He thought he knew what a beanie looked like - and tall with brown hair was easy to remember. They'd just need to get to higher ground to be able to see her. Which was currently happening, as the girl had taken his advice and was now being pulled upwards by the ascending wire. And they were rising! Rising above and out of the toilets!
But despite the growing forest rising out of the ground, and the fact that they were being carried to the treetops, something was bothering Rinji.
The girl was crying.
He... needed something to distract her. "Hey... what's your name?" It was a good question to ask, right? Everybody liked having a name.
While Rinji was contemplating that, the Chamelemon was busy trashing the mall, seemingly not noticing the tiny beings hitching a ride on the foreign trees that were further infesting the buildings with their roots.

Everything seemed to be more or less in order, or at least as it could be in the chaotic mess that Amelie had been submitted to. The small, green being had been a good job to reassure her thus far, even though that might've to do with the fact that she felt naturally at ease around it. Him? She wasn't sure.
Her body shivered as the duo ascended, there was this small fact, unknown by her savior. Even if the little brunette had accepted the proposal, the fact that she felt the most primal of dreads in the face of heights. She swallowed and did her best to not look downward to press on, even though that kinda clashed directly with their quest.
How were they supposed to find her mom if she couldn't look down? Sweat began to run on her palms in inordinate amounts for somebody so tiny as she peered down. "M-my name's Amelie." She responded, her voice understandably shaky. "B-but mommy likes to call me Amy. She says it's cuter. Wh-what's your name, mister?"
Only after introducing herself, the girl caught the sight of a pretty tall woman by the mall's parking lot. A finger immediately pointed there. "That's her! I-I'm sure of it!"
Getting there would prove to be somewhat difficult, given that it was... directly across the section the chameleon was thrashing. What could they do in the face of that?

"Amelie. Amy. Ameeee." Rinji tested her name on his tongue. His face furrowed. It sounded familiar, as if he'd heard it before. Or if he was meant to know it.
"I like it," he said. If her mother picked that name, she must've been a good person. Someone that cared. That only made it even more imperative that they find her.
"My name?" He repeated after her. "Umm..."
It wasn't that he didn't know his name. He'd just never told anyone. Maybe it was because the reason why was, well, stupid.
"Rinji... My name is Rinji."
The otherwise pleasant introduction was cut short by an alarming new piece of information.
Amy had found her mother!
"That's her!?" The Chilomon shouted in excitement as he followed her pointing finger. He almost felt like jumping for joy, except he would have fallen straight out of Amy's hands if he did.
Instead, he settled for a big, happy grin. That hadn't been so hard after all!
He only needed to figure out a way to get her down. It had been his idea to tell her to grab the ascending cable, and now it was his responsibility to get her down. Only he was completely and utterly puzzled. Yet as he looked down, saw the car park, the lizard, and the mall, an idea began to form.
But was it a good one? He had to make a decision on the fly. Reckless, unsafe, death-defying. It would likely be all three. Amy had only been sobbing moments earlier from the shock of being so high, and now he'd have to ask her to do a manoeuvre that not even some Digimon would do.
It was awful. He felt awful. Yet at the same time, he felt sure. Sure that he would keep her safe. It was his duty. She wouldn't, no, couldn't get hurt if he was there.
"Amy..." Rinji said gravely while he looked up at her with large, orbicular eyes. "I need you to jump. Jump onto the..." He struggled for the Earth word that she'd understand.
"Lizard," he remembered. "Can you do that for me?"
"I won't let you get hurt. I promise."

For some reason, Amy thought that Rinji trying her name out was entertaining. He sounded almost like he had discovered a new word, or as if he was trying to remember the necessary phonemes to pronounce it. Was hers a difficult name? She didn't think so, but knowing for certain was impossible.
A bit involuntarily, she smiled at the compliment, even if no reply was issued to it. At least until the creature said his name; a wave of familiarity washed over her. That name… why it sounded like a name fitting of an old friend…?
“Rinji is a cute name. I like it.” Was that too much of a… 'samey’ response? It seemed like it, but that was genuinely how she felt about it.
It definitely sounded like the name of a friend, if such thing was possible.
Their journey was almost over, it seemed. The girl's mother had been located, and their only trial left was to find the way to the parking lot, which was something way easier to be said than done.
especially, when his plan implied jumping on top of a giant lizard. For a second, Amy pondered whether Rinji was in his right mind or not, yet… somehow, she felt like he could be trusted, that somehow, this crazy plan would work.
“O-Okay.” She replied, a measure of meekness in her voice. “At the count of three. One…”
That wasn't necessary, yet the girl felt the need for a moment in order to gather courage. She was aware of the possible consequences if she failed. None were pretty. “Two…”
She took one last deep breath to clear her doubts; time to act. “Three!”
Her small frame flew through the air. With any luck, she would land where she was meant to.

When Amy started her countdown, Rinji felt the adrenaline wash over him. Could it be called that?
He steeled himself.
Two.
His muscles tensed.
Three.
And they flew!
Amy's petite form, an insignificant flea, falling towards the behemoth lizard. Would it be enough? They were only just yards away from making it onto the top of his head.
Rinji suddenly wondered if they would make it at all.
As if time had slowed to a crawl, he noticed something. Amelie's pocket was glowing. And he felt different too. Energised, as if power was pouring into him. Before he knew it, he was glowing too.
Not just glowing, but shining. Shining and shifting into a larger, redder form.
Amelie was no longer holding him. He was holding her.
And they were still falling.
Rinji held onto her tighter. He had an idea, but no time to explain it. Instead, he said two words.
"Scarlet Rain!"
Below them, superheated pellets formed out of thin air. Then they shot straight at the Chamelemon's head like a hail of bullets. The Chamelemon was taken utterly by surprise. His forelegs collapsed. He slumped forwards. The scent of burnt scales filled the air.
At the same time, Rinji tried to shield Amelie from the imminent impact. It was a bit awkward, like a mid-air bear hug.
They hit the lizard hard.
"Ouch," Rinji said in deadpan. His carapace had been the point of impact. The good news? He'd shielded Amy, and they were now sausage rolling off the stunned reptile and onto the concrete.
Rinji ended up on his back, embedded with asphalt and with a young girl protected under his legs. When he pulled them away, he was relieved to see she was still alive.
He didn't move. Instead, he stared at her. "Are you still okay?" He asked.

What she was living right now was an experience that Amy would probably never forget. How their bodies traversed the air in a way that she definitely didn't want to experience ever again. A sensation of both weightlessness and helpless, yet of determination and hope coursed her mind.
On that very moment was when she realized that her skirt's pocket apparently had... something inside? Whatever it was, a bright white light came out of it, strong enough to pierce the opaque fabric all on its own.
Before she realized it, Rinji's body was glowing as well. The otherwise small being changed colors and grew at an incredibly fast rate; once he was done, the centipede-esque form that was currently holding her, had nothing to do with his previous appearance.
What happened next seemed to be out of a fantasy book. Rinji struck the giant lizard with what looked like crimson energy, the digimon fell and they could land safely. Or at least, she could, given the centipede's grunt. Yet, they weren't out of danger... and that wasn't to say that the smell was kinda awful.
"Rinji, you... you're different now." Despite Amelie's brain wanting to just stop this madness on that moment and just... remain still, she knew that there was still much left to do. "I'm... fine, I think."
There were many questions to ask, but it didn't take an expert to realize they wouldn't be fine for long if they remained there, though! Tugging at his upper plates, she tried to gesture at the mall's exit. Hopefully, they would get moving.

"Yeah, I'm... different." Rinji didn't have time to say much else. There was no time to explain, or even to think. Instead, he nodded at Amelie's tug and look gesture.
He carefully let Amelie down, then pushed himself onto his legs and steadied himself for the first time. The newly evolved Digimon stood far taller than Amelie ever had. Looking down at her felt strange. He was the adult now.
"That way, right?" The memory and direction of Amelie's mother was imprinted into his mind. The question had been little more than a superficial reassurance. With the lizard nearby twitching back into action, Rinji opted to do something that would probably be considered dishonourable by most.
He kicked him while he was down with a second Scarlet Rain.
After all, he had a child in tow.
With the lizard down for a few more precious minutes and fire engine sirens calling in the distance, Rinji looked to Amelie. "His fate is the adult's responsibility now," he said in resignation.
"Let's go."

Things had a smooth sailing afterward. Rinji had managed to buy the duo enough time to get out of the giant lizard's reach. Even if the Scolomon was fairly big now, Amelie didn't feel afraid of him. This was Rinji; this was the small, green guy who had helped her get out of the sticky situation she had found herself in. Showing him anything besides gratitude would be offensive, as far as the small girl was concerned.
Those thoughts were brushed aside as soon as they got to move, however! They still needed to get to the parking lot, and while that would be relatively easy after the events that had just transpired, it was still a task they had to accomplish.
While they got out of danger, Amy couldn't but think about what would be hers and Rinji's future. Would Nikumo accept the centipede as part of their family? Would he have to return to the world where he came from? Or go as far as to go into hiding? That was something she didn't know.
And that, for now, wouldn't be found out. [Exit]
