“Coding Confusion”
“Um, are you sure this thing is safe?” the little Commandramon asked as his eyes darted about. “I feel like what the monster felt in Young Frankenstein.”
Vector stood in the middle of Shino’s room. A series of wires and pads were placed around his little body, along to his backpack which acted almost like a backpack computer. All the wires were plugged into Shino’s desktop. The young woman with the glasses types in a series of commands, preparing for her little experiment.
“ We really gotta monitor your viewing habits,” Shino replied without tearing an eye away from the screen.
She kept focus on what she was doing. In the end, she was sincerely trying to help her Digimon partner the best way she knew how. Her commandramon had lost his memory-- right up to the point where she saw him in a shooter MMO game, and hacked his data by accident. The result brought him into the real world, but made him lose all his memories before he was in the game. As such, she made a promise to help him find his origin-- if he had one. She was till new to the concept of Digimon and what they could do…
… but she was also intrigued. Every day she would scratch the surface a bit deeper between the complex coding of the digital world, the digimon, her digivice. It was all one big mystery. A hacker’s trove of secrets she wanted to crack, and so far she didn’t get any headway.
Vector’s memories, on the other hand could still be found within himself. WHile most would think hypnosis to draw out memories-- she used her skill the best way she knew how. Programming and hacking.
Vector fidgeted as he waddled over to her chair and looked at the screen, the wires still stuck to the sticky cups on his body. “So what exactly will this do?” he asked, curious.
“From what I understand, Digimon are made of computer data. By however it is done, this data formed into a physical body but it is still operating like any other computer data,” Shino explained as she wrote out her program. “ Now all that data is stored within your body, everything from your personality, to habits…” she paused, tempted to see if she could tweak some of her digimon’s annoying shortcomings… but continued and put it aside, “... including memories. Even though you cannot remember, it doesn’t mean the memories are gone. They can be fragmented or hidden deep down in your coding.”
Commandramon just continued to stare, soft hums coming from his mouth as he tried to understand the ‘techno-talk’ Shino was going on about. She caught on the silence and looked back at him, clearly seeing the clueless expression.
“Basically, this will let me see and poke around your data a little bit,” she shortened up.
“Wait a minute, so your going to go poking around inside me? Won’t that hurt?” he asked.
Shino tried to keep her composure between the uncertainty of this kind of experiment and her temper dealing with the rather simple-minded machine digimon. “Well, more or less. And no, it shouldn’t hurt you. At least I don’t think so. “
He paused for a moment as he realized he couldn’t get out of this. He wanted to know his past too. Then he said… “Any chance I should get the lubricant--”
“WILL YOU GET OVER THERE!” Shino shouted and pushed Vector away back to where he was standing before. Her cheeks were flushed with his dumb little lewd comments. Where the hell he got this stuff was beyond her.
Though with some grunts of discomfort, he just stood there in the spot of the room. He then felt a small mild jolt against his body, like a buzz from a hand-zapper. “What was that you just did? “ he asked.
Shino saw as a loading disc icon appeared on her screen. “Just making a backup. You never know so it's good to save your progress,” she commented-- having taken a quick sample of Commandramon’s surface data. She then turned in her chair to face hm. “Okay, now we are ready for the deep… inspection,” she said, trying to not add more words Vector could make sound pervy. “So just try not to move or speak. “
“But what if I gotta go to the bathroom?” he asked, cracking a grin.
Shino just stared at him, her eyes concealed by the glare of the computer off her glasses. “Fine, fine… I’m good to go,” he signed, “Just whatever you do don’t go poking at stuff you shouldn’t. I don’t want to come out of all this with my tail where my head should be, my arms next to my feet and my nose in my navel. Can you imagine?”
“.... no,” she replied honestly, and turned back to her screen to try and get the partial image out of her head.
With a few clicks of the keyboard, a data screen appeared, showing lines and lines of computer code. Though the amount was just scrolling by wildly, she knew what it was. Commandramon’s own computer code, interpreted by her own computer.
Slowly she began to scroll through the code, using her own software to scan and analyze the data that ran through Vector. With a strong keystroke, she entered a command to read and search his data for constant operating tools.
Vector felt a small jolt like a tingle run up his tail and to his tail. “Oooh. I felt that one, but not bad.” he commented and tried to keep still. “This is kind of like we are playing doctor, huh?”
Shino’s brow furrowed at Commandramon’s jokes. “Vector, I’m trying to focus so i would appreciate it if--”
ZAAP!
The flash was mild and fast, but made Shino stopped. She was distracted by one keystroke in the code and it executed by her accidentally hitting the enter key. She slowly turned around and looked to see Vector.
“What is it?” The digimon-- or rather Black Agumon said, as he rubbed his eye with his paw. “Something on my face.”
He looked like he was covered in soot, but in fact he was now a completely new creature. A Black Agumon-- with no tactical gear, his eye color different and pretty much more ‘naked’ than he was before.
Shino tried to control her reaction and kept her lip tight. “Um, just a very small error. Don’t worry. I know what I did wrong,” she said as she turned back to the former code. From there, she found a whole series of codes with similar formats-- seeming to act like a form of DNA. “Huh…” she said. “It seems this coding acts like your digital DNA building blocks. IT govers your structure and your evolution points. “
The little black dinosaur swooshed his tail now, excited. “Do you mean you can make me Digivolve?!” he asked eagerly.
“Can’t say for sure. At least it holds the codes of your other evolution potential unless….” She tried to fix the coding she accidentally touched. This time, she did an undo command, and hit enter.
ZAAP!
Shino turned, expecting to see Commandramon again. However, in his place, on the ground was a very odd looking digimon in the shape of a big, puffy, pink sheep. He was on all fours and with hoofs with two cannons on his back. His ‘head’ stuck out from what looked like a big cloud of cotton candy.
“Pffft!” Shino gasped, her hand quickly covering her mouth to contain her laughter.
“What? What now?” Vector asked as he waddled over-- without noticing his new mobility, and looked up to a small mirror on her desk to look at himself. “... GAAAAH!! I’m a… I’m a… “
“Sheep?” Shino blurted out.
“PINK!” Vector shouted, not liking what he saw. “Change me back!”
Shino fought for breath as she laughed in her chair, grabbing her gutt for control. “OKay… okay… Ahaha… I’m sorry Vector. Don’t worry I’ll get you back to normal in no time.” she said and returned to her coding.
This time, she went back and manually changed the code, removing the errors she made and hit enter.
“Times like this, coding is a bit--”
ZAAP!
Shino turned around, but now things were much, much worse.
The cute cuddly sheep was gone, and now Vector took a new form-- a demonic looking, but well dressed digimon. He was now tall, able to see in the mirror. He wore lavish clothing, looking like he stepped out an american film noir movie with a fuzzy demon mask and held a tommy machine gun in his hands.
Vector, or Astamon, grinned as he looked in the mirror. “Ooooh, i look bad ass! Maybe I can stay like this hm?” he asked SHino and holding up his Oro Salmón Tommy Gun. “Say hello to my little friend…”
“Oh hell no!” Shino replied as if she was watching a bad horror movie and quickly fixed the code in two seconds flat.
This little game continued and dragged on Shino’s nerves. The simple exercise of searching his code became a mad-scientist adventure as Shino kept trying to reset, edit and move the coding to try and restore Vector back to his Commandramon form-- but it kept going terribly, terribly wrong…
First, he became a Bakamon, who didn’t hesitate to float around and try to scare Shino-- which failed. The next attempt made him actually become an Angemon. While Shino actually liked the improvement, when Vector looked in the mirror-- he said he looked horrible and ridiculous. After taking a snapshot with her phone, she continued.
Each coding change, no matter what corrections or double checking she did, caused a jolt of electricity and transformed him, or digivolved him-- whatever, into something totally random. He became a Manzimon, that filled up almost the entire room, then a sukamon that stunk up the entire room. Shino hurriedly opened up a window just to allow herself to breathe from the ‘poop’ digimon he had.
He became an Angewomon-- which he actually said how hot he was. After another ‘hell no’, she immediately entered another string of code-- which then turned him into a creepy ‘digimon in a costume and cheezy face’ known as Betsumon.
“The hell, you look like the Digimon version of Pennywise from IT!” Shino cried, starting to feel a worse migraine than usual whenever Vector was involved.
“Shino?” a voice came from outside her door. “Is everything okay in there? I heard some loud noises.”
Shino cringed as Sojiro, her uncle and guardian, overhead and would freak if he saw what was going on in there. Trying to fix it fast, she typed in another code-- but only to have another version of Betsumon wearing an Angemon costume. She turned and looked to the door, flustered.
“It’s okay, Sojiro,” Shino called out, sweat now dripping from her brow in fear he might open the door. “Just … a semi-whimsical horror show feature playing.” she glanced at the freaky costumed Digimon, which just seemed gross and wrong.
“Well, alright… just maybe try to keep it down, okay?” he said, and soon she heard his footsteps fade from the door.
A sigh escaped Shino as she sunk into her chair. “Okay, i think that’s enough for today…” she replied and began to type on her computer once more.
“Wait a minute!” The Betsumon hissed through his buck teeth, “You’re not gonna leave me this way!?” he cried out.
“Vector, relax. Why do you think I made a backup of your data?” she explained as she took the file she copied before they started. “Contains your default data just in case of emergencies like this one.. “
She quickly removed all the coding she had touched up to that point, deleted it, copy and pasted the back up program she saved. “Okay, Vector, just stay calm and still. You’ll be your old, small, annoying self in no time.”
“Wait, I’m what?”
ZAAP!
The flash of light and surge lasted a bit longer as the system rebooted and the coding was restored. A bit of smoke wafted from where he sat, but as it cleared, Shino found Vector sitting on the ground-- back as Commandramon with his gun and military gear on. He blinked blankly as he seemed to be waiting and looked up at Shino.
Shino pushed herself away from her desk on her rolling chair and leaned over to Vector. “Hey, little buddy, how do you feel?” she asked the Commandramon.
He paused as he blinked up at her. “Fine, I guess…”
A sigh of relief fell from Shino’s chest as she relaxed in her chair. “That’s very good. The Reboot program worked…You’re fine, ” she said.
Despite it, Vector glanced around the room-- as if he was confused. He was oddly quiet as if to ponder something. Shino saw this and squinted at him through her glasses. “Vector…? Vector, you okay buddy?” she asked.
He tilted his head up at her. “Who’s Vector…?” he replied.
Shino almost slipped out of her chair and her glasses tilted at the revelation that she screwed up again. “Not fine…” she gulped.
Her program didn’t merely reset Commandramon’s default data-- but it also even made his present memory wiped out! Even from when they met. Shino felt even more anxious as she had done possibly irreparable damage to her partner Digimon.
“What’s going on? Who are you? “ the little Commandramon asked as he looked around Shino’s room. He looked at himself and flinched. “And why am I dressed like a storm trooper wearing plaid?”
“Vector,” Shino said as she got out of her chair, “I need you to take a breath and calm down.”
“Who’s Vector?! Wh-- Why can’t I remember anything?” he said as he darted his head around. He felt the tug of the wires and cups attached to his body as he looked down. “Where am I and why am i hooked up like a microwave?”
Shino bit her lip as she tried to keep calm under the awkward situation. “You’re Vector, a Commandramon. You are a Digimon , a digital monster. This is my room. Your home too-- part computer lab-- part…”
“Lab? As in Laboratory?!” the Commandramon said and began to pull off the wires and jumped back. “The heck? Were you experimenting on me, crazy lady?! And what the heck is a Digimon.”
“I’m not a crazy lady!” Shino shouted, now starting to panic herself at how bad his memory had been erased. “And I wasn’t--- well, technically I was, but it was consensual!”
“Oh, REALLY?!” Commandramon shouted and hopped away, landing on Shino’s bed to get away from her. “So some crazy dame took me up here and wanted to experiment on me. Sure they say crazy girls are hot, but seriously? How do I know you didn’t kidnap me, or lured me up here like those criminals who trick people into hotel rooms to make them drug mules or steal their kiddines?” He paused as he looked at his tummy. “Oh god, do I still have my kidneys!?”
“I don’t want your kidneys!” Shino shouted. Though there was some relief that his personality was a bit in tact.
“Shino?” Sojiro’s voice called out, “I thought I told you to keep it down. Remember what we said about the customers.”
Shino felt like she was going to die if he walked in. She quickly ran to the door. “Um, I’m fine, Sojiro. Sorry about that. I’m turning off everything right---”
A bright light shined, but it was from the window. She turned and saw that Commandramon hopped out of the window. Alarmed, Shino quickly gave chase and tried to get him back. HOwever, the moment she got to the window, he was now in the alley beside the house and running off somewhere.
“Oh, this isn’t good…” she groaned and quickly went to get her outdoor clothing and shoes on to chase after him.
****
Shino followed her Digivice signal after Vector. Even though his data was altered and memory now blank-- the tracker on the digivice still worked to pinpoint his location. She followed it from her uncle’s cafe and down the area of south Shibuya. She found herself in the old industrial area as she had her cell phone also in hand. The trouble was that whether he was aware of who are what he was. However, she had an idea to use that would get him to trust her.
The signal continued down into a small alley behind two storehouses. “Vector, please come out!” she called out aloud, following the signal and was right on top of it. “I know you’re here. We’re friends Vector and I just want to help you.”
It was then she caught movement behind her. She turned and soon saw it-- the pixilated movement of light along the wall. She would of ran but didn’t and just pointed at him. “Please come out. I can see you there. “
It didn’t move for a bit, but then the camouflage power vanished and Vector appeared once more. “Didn’t know I could do that… but that doesn’t mean I’m a monster!” Vector replied as he turned to run.
“Wait! Please, Vector,” She cried out, her tone almost desperate. The little army dinosaur stopped as he glanced back at her. Her cry seemed hard for him to ignore. “I know you’re scared and confused. But you can trust me. What happened was an accident, but I can get your memory back. I can help you.”
“Why should I believe you?” he said and pointed a claw at her. “You could be some mad scientist for all I know?”
The theme of Mad Scientist was starting to make Shino feel mad but she soon took out her cell phone and turned on the photograph gallery. “Please, look at these pictures.” Slowly, Vector approached her as she held out the phone. The little dinosaur cautiously approached and took the phone out of her hand. “We’re friends. See? We known each other for about a month. You, AEGIS and I, we been working together. We’re partners. You lost your memory once before… and I wanted to help you regain it.”
The commandramon used his claw to scroll through the pictures. Showing a picture of Shino and her with Commandramon in a selfie style, him getting way too close to the camera shot, another with the entire AEGIS team, another with him making funny faces or pranking the other digimon, or trying to make a kiss at Shino-- who pushed him away mid-shot.
The gray-pixilated skinned digimon blinked at the pictures and slowly handed the phone back to Shino. “Vector… that is your name I gave you the first time, and I just wanna help you , okay?” she said, her glasses fogging up in concern and tears.
A breath escaped Commandramon as he relaxed his shoulders. “Okay…” he said, “Sorry, I just… I don’t know what to do.”
In one of those rare caring moments Shino had for Vector, she knelt down and gave him a hug-- and hoped he wouldn’t cop a feel. Luckily, he didn’t. “It’s okay Vector.Let’s jsut go home and I’ll try to fix your memory…”
****
It took about an a half hour to get Vector back to her home and sneak him past Sojiro. Now the little dinosaur was back in her room and had the sensor wires attached to him again. Shino typed on the computer, reopening the window that contained Vector’s computer code. She also took the backup data and made sure this time the core memory program was also active this time around.
Pulling away from the computer, she scooted over to her Commandramon and got close. “Okay, I am just gonna try and restore your memory and it shouldn’t even tingle a bit. Just need you to stay still here, okay? “ she asked.
“Okay,” he replied simply.
A sigh escaped her as she decided to do something nice. She leaned down and gave her Commandramon a light kiss on his big nose. With that, she pushed off and rolled back to her computer.
She quickly typed in the restore code, copied and pasted everything she needed. After checking it over three times to be safe, she stopped, paused and struck the enter key with determination.
ZAAP!!
She was starting to hate that sound as she turned and looked. “Vector, you know who you are?”
The little military dino smirked and wagged his tail. “Yeah, I’m good, Shino-Chi. Did we start yet? I’m kind of getting hungry” he said.
Relief washed over her as she pushed away from her computer and smiled at the dinosaur. As much as she would want to hug him-- she knew that he was back, and would try to cop a feel. She just smiled and fought back a small tear. “I’m glad, you goofy dino.”
“Yeah, me too!” another voice chirped.
“Huh?!” Shino gasped.
“Hey, the lady was talking to me, copycat!”
“Who you calling copycat?”
A look of shock came over Shino and she felt like throwing up at what she saw. The copy and paste seemed to have caused a minor error as the program didn’t just restore Vector-- it multiplied him. All over her room she found several Commandramons all chattering away and acting as goofy as any version of Vector would be. A grand total of a dozen copies of him were all over the room.
She was paralyzed, completely dumbstruck by the predicament she was in. She was totally surrounded by Vectors, eating her snacks in the mini-fridge, jumping on the bed and laughing at one another. It was a nightmare for her. “Are you freaking kidding me…?” She gasped.
“Shino! Shino!” One of them cheered, “Look we have enough of us to make our own squad!”
“Yeah, but who is gonna be lieutenant. Unless you wanna duel to see who gets it,” another said and armed his rifle.
“Hey-hey! Or we can be Shino’s reverse harem if she wanted, hm?” another replied with a stupid smirk.
“NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!”
....
“AAAAAAAHHH!!” She screamed and jolted out of bed. Sweat dripped from her brow as the image of dozens of Commandramon in her room faded into memory. Her breath was ragged as she clung to the sheets and realized where and when she was. It was dark, her blindes close and everything off. Her computer screen was the only thing on with a floating aquarium screensaver on as she looked around. The clock on the screen said 5: 17 AM. Her hand reached up to cover her eyes as she rested her head in her hands.
It was just a terrible dream. Finding her glasses at the headboard of her bed, she put them on and looked down. On the child size bed mat she had laid out, was Vector. The one and only, snoring peacefully as he slept too.
A relieved sigh escaped her as she flopped back onto her pillow and tried to rest her eyes. “It was only a dream…” she breathed, her chest rising and falling from the scare. The idea of having multiple Vectors was a scary idea in of itself. “That’s the last time I watch Twilight Zone before bed…”
With that she drifted off back to sleep…
As Commandramon slept, he murmured in his sleep and hugged his pillow and rifle. "Thank you for the kiss, Shino-chi... mrr..." he said in his sleep.
Shino cracked open an eye, wondering if she heard that right. Dismissing it she tried to get back to sleep.
THE END.

THE END.
