Highton View Terrace, an apartment complex in Nerima City, Japan. A man named Yori Himura had rented a cheap flat there for a single night, seeing it as an affordable alternative to seeking a hotel room in such short notice. He had a stocky build and slightly intimidating eyes, but he was polite and had a pleasant aura about him. He had brought along his 4-year-old daughter. An adorable little thing she was.
That night, Yori got dressed in a simple suit in order to go somewhere, unintentionally making enough noise to disturb his daughter from her light sleep.
“Where are you going, daddy?” The child asked innocently with wide, brown eyes.
“I have an important job to do, Yuu. I promise I’ll be back soon.” He calmly said.
“Don’t leave me alone… It’s dark and scary. What if a monster eats me?”
“There are no monsters.” The man reached his hand down to pat his daughter on the head. “See you soon, kiddo.”
The child was soon left alone in the apartment with nothing to do. She tried to open the TV, but the screen only displayed static. In fact, all monitors around the neighbourhood were currently displaying static, but a child like her had no way of knowing that.
After several minutes of loneliness, a sound like nails on a chalkboard was heard eerily closeby. Startled, the little girl turned behind her to see a large claw scratching against the glass panels leading outside to the balcony. “H-h-hello…?” Clutching her patchwork teddy bear tightly, she walked up to it and pushed the door open with as much strength as a sleep-deprived toddler could muster.
What she saw outside, to her utter awe, was a giant bird with green and yellow feathers perched on the balcony’s concrete railing. “Oh… hi, Mister Birdie. Would you like a cracker… a very big cracker?” She asked, staring curiously at this never-before-seen creature.
The giant bird said nothing, but it cocked its head to the side, fixating its glowing eyes on the human child. Evidently, crackers were not part of its diet, but something else was…
Meanwhile, Yori was walking the night-lit urban streets on his lonesome while talking on his phone. His usually kind expression had been replaced with a more stern one. “Understood.” He replied in a tone of cold professionalism, only to realize that the signal had been lost and his call had been cut in the middle. All electronics around the area were seemingly malfunctioning, and the billboards above the main road were displaying strange symbols and numbers. Regardless, the man shrugged it off and kept walking with the same scary determination in his hard eyes.
“KYAAAAAAAAHHH!!!” A little girl’s terrified and desperate screams filled the air, as she was held firmly in the sharp talons of the giant bird that had captured her as its prey. It was flying several feet above the ground at mach speeds, sending air currents crashing against the poor child’s face, who’s eyes filled with tears. It was safe to say that this was the most scared she had ever been in her admittedly short life.

A full squad of policemen and special force units - Tokyo’s finest - were stuck observing the scene from the ground, being utterly helpless to do anything about it.
