"Attention passengers. In 5 minutes this service will be arriving and terminating at Rosewood Town Station. Please ensure that all of your carry-on luggage is with you as you disembark, and please gather at the end of the platform for luggage carried in the cargo wagon. On behalf of the DWTS, we thank you for your patronage and hope that your journey with us today was satisfactory."
Luke the Elecmon began packing away his school books and writing materials as he heard that message through the PA system of the Digital World Trailmon Service carriage he was riding in. It was something of a pattern for him now, what with his boyfriend Veemon's difficulties now lasting for longer than anticipated.
Effectively, Luke had to split his life in two now, not that he complained, but sometimes it felt quite tiring. Half of his life was spent on Earth, with his human partner Colin and his brother Bellamy; as he lived the life of the young high school student Luke James (thanks to his holosuit). And the other half was spent in the Digital World, where Luke would regularly check in with Veemon in Rosewood and be company for him for days at a time.
Thanks to the difference in how fast time travelled between the Digital World and Earth, that meant that the 17 hours between the end of school and the start of school the next day became nearly 5 days; giving Luke plenty of time to spend with his boyfriend. Although... he would spend at least most of the 5th day on the Trailmon between Terminus and Rosewood, which would be his chance to do his homework before arriving at his destination. After all, Luke wanted to get good grades in school. Even though he was a digimon and not a human, there were many useful things he had learned so far in his role as Colin's partner.
As for Colin, Luke was fairly certain that he was well looked after. He not only had his twin brother Bellamy at his side, but Luke's niece Gaz was living with him too, and she was quite a powerful digimon herself. Even then, Colin often visited them in the digital world, flying in on Daedalus when he had the spare time. So it was an arrangement that Luke was comfortable with.
Eventually, the Elecmon finished packing up his pens and books, placing them in his backpack. Also, fortunately for a digimon like him, he didn't have to pack a lot, given how little clothes he wore. But still, he was dressed in his usual blue scarf, as well as an indigo flannel shirt and flat cap placed neatly between his long rabbit-like ears. He had no need of other garments, his soft red, white and purple striped fur sufficient enough for him.
The Trailmon he was riding slowed down as it approached its destination, Luke seeing the endless forests of the Timberlands giving way to the structures and avenues of the town of Rosewood. He gave a smile, knowing that soon he would see his favourite blue dragon once more. Eventually, the destination boards at the station came in view, and finally, the carriage came to a stop at the flowery platform 1 of Rosewood.
Making sure to voice his thanks to the Trailmon at the head of the train, Luke then made his way onto the platform, his blue eyes on the lookout for where Veemon was hopefully waiting for him.

Veemon was much less distinguishable than Luke. He didn't bear any special scarf, shirt, or other highly distinguishing characteristic save his unique size and face. It used to be what made him who he was were his human partner granted by fortune and his incidental twin gained through apparent providence given the former. Now neither of those things was true. The fact was he didn't have a whole lot left that belonged to him at all, really. He didn't just lose friends, comrades, partners - he'd lost his purpose. Veemon had thought that Shoutmon, at least, would stay with him, but that digimon cared more about his music apparently than the other half of his digicore.
But Veemon still did have Luke. Was that all he was living for, though? Well, for the moment, yes. So he was very, very appreciative for all the time he could get for his love living across worlds. Veemon was aware it had to wreak havoc on Luke's sense of time to travel at that frequency, but for once he just didn't have it in him to put the Elecmon before himself. He needed this. The other two days Veemon would usually keep himself busy with a few of the usual odd jobs available around this town, and that, too, was very good for his health, not to mention a reasonable source of income.
As the town got bigger, so did the train platform. It was going to need yet another expansion at this rate! Space was cramped full of loved ones greeting loved ones. Nevertheless, Veemon was determined to slip and push his way through - politely as possible - to reach his own. There was nothing especially distinctive about him from other Veemon save for obviously unique qualities like his size, face, personality, and voice that hopefully carried over all the chatter. "Luke! Hey, Luke!" Veemon jumped with one hand waving, hoping to make himself known even if he couldn't see the Elecmon from here.
His typical childlike grin would surely distinguish if nothing else. In some sense it was sincere; Luke was the most important person in Veemon's life right now, and his return from the real world was never soon enough no matter how short a time he'd been gone. But the smile and excitement were for Luke's sake, too. He just couldn't let too much sadness show in his attitude because that wasn't the sort of 'mon he was. Others, then self. If it made Luke happy, he'd made someone happy like he thought he was supposed to do. That, in turn, made Veemon himself a bit happier (discounting the obvious).

Even though there were many Veemon that lived in Rosewood (as indeed was the case in the rest of the digital world also), by now Luke knew which one was his. When he saw Veemon waving and calling out to him, Luke gave a warm smile back and rushed through the crowd to meet him.
"Heyya, sweetscales~" the Elecmon said as he was close enough to be heard, then greeted his boyfriend with a cuddle before parting with a kiss. It was wonderful to see him again, the start of at least 4 days together with the digimon he loved. He was so happy that his little rabbit-like tail wiggled under the nine feathers that covered it.
After that, he walked alongside Veemon as they made their way to the exit of the station, entering Rosewood's inner district. By now the town had expanded to a bustling center of activity - its well-tended gardens in their autumnal phase; the leaves of the canopy above showing something of a more reddish hue than normal, but still, there were plants aplenty in "The Forest Capital" as more boastful digimon called Rosewood lately.
By now, Luke knew about most of the situation that the blue drake was going through lately. His second human partner abandoning him; the digimon whom he had been close enough to call his brother doing the same. When the Elecmon had first heard what had happened, he was so furious that he had momentarily made both Colin and Bellamy nervous, but, eventually he concluded that the best thing he could do for Veemon was to support him as best as he could. And thus, he had agreed to reschedule his comings and goings so that Veemon wouldn't be left alone to suffer from this abandonment for too long.
There were many things that Luke enjoyed doing with Veemon while they were together in Rosewood. Among them was simply catching up on the news, although Luke was careful not to talk too much about Colin and Bellamy, given what Leith and Shoutmon had done to him. Often in the evenings, Luke would teach him new games to play so they could have a bit of fun together. But mostly, he found the most effective way he could spend time with Veemon during the day was to do work around Rosewood. It passed time, it helped distract them, and best of all, they were doing something constructive for the town. But of course, work would be for later.
"Welp, looks like I missed out on lunch in the buffet car again." Luke said, chuckling as his white stomach rumbled from its emptiness. "Say, have you eaten, Blue? How about we head to the inn for some lunch?" he offered.

How was it Luke had a new nickname every visit? That was what Veemon, thought anyway. He knew he wasn't nearly as creative as Luke, but that was fine. Veemon was who he was, and, well, at least one other digimon approved.
Of course, Veemon's perceived lack of creativity didn't mean a lack of effort. He certainly had plenty of time to think of new pet names and plenty, plenty of motivation. "I missed you, buzzfuzz." References to Luke's furriness and his prowess with electricity smashed together were usually Veemon's go-to. It was hard to go into other territory, though, as the former of those two things was one of Veemon's favorite qualities about him (outer qualities, anyway). Veemon's tight embrace wasn't just to express his love and affection and happiness with Luke's presence (but of course that as a big part of it). The fact was he really, really liked the feeling of Luke's soft fur on his own smooth scales.
He wasn't ware that his reptilian tail was swaying back and forth, not so much a constant wag but erratic whips. Nonetheless the expression conveyed was the same. They kissed, and Veemon felt the spark. No, really... he felt a spark. He jolted just a little from it, but he didn't acknowledge it. It wasn't that bad, and as the air got dryer with the season that was an assumed risk for creatures covered in fur (or was it the more obvious explanation? Veemon couldn't be sure). Veemon thought it was still worth it. Certainly made the pet name work in any case. Veemon just laughed it off. As the exited, the little drake made sure he had his hand was firmly in Luke's paw. It seemed that lately Veemon was getting very, very OK with such public displays of affection, moreso than before he was on his own.
"I could eat," Veemon agreed with Luke's suggestion, then took the initiative as he used his grip on Luke's hand to redirect the rabbit in that direction. Actually, he could have been a bit more gentle. In his excitement he was pulling the bunny rabbit a little, walking backwards briskly and beaming. He sure did seem thrilled for someone who just got dumped by his best friend and the owner of half his digicore.

Luke couldn't help but giggle like a starstruck fangirl as Veemon called him 'buzzfuzz'. He admired the creativity of it, as well as the accuracy. Luke was happy to let their embrace last as long as possible, because he knew that Veemon loved how soft his fur was, and he was also happy to share that with him for as long as he wanted.
As Veemon's long tail swished to and fro with all its power, Luke's own little tail under his electric tail feathers just wiggled with the same energy. He kissed Veemon, but was afraid for a moment he had hurt him with a discharge of excess electricity. Thankfully he didn't seem to be bothered by it.
Afterward, Veemon agreed with Luke's idea to get some lunch together. And so they made their way to the inn. Although more accurately, Veemon pulled him toward it. This... kinda made Luke concerned. After living three years with Colin and Bellamy, he by now learned to know when someone was distressed and would deny it. But he wouldn't pull him up on it now in public, he'd just try and go with things, with the premise that they could speak their minds in proper later. And Luke understood that Veemon was going through a hard time right now. But that was why he was here - to be there for him when he needed it. Even if they didn't come to some breakthrough today, that was alright, all Luke wanted was to help Veemon be happy as much as he could in his current situation.
The Elecmon did notice that there was a kind of forcefulness in his boyfriend today though, how he pulled him toward the inn. He could tolerate that for now, even understand it, but, he knew that he wasn't entirely at peace here. But he didn't want to confront him in public about it. He was determined to draw it out gradually, in a way that he could help.
"So, what's on special today, honey?" Luke asked, gently, hoping to keep the subject on something that he could keep him happy about. He knew that learning about Veemon's feelings might be rough, but he felt like he was the only one he'd be able to tell. Bellamy himself knew not to pry, so Luke was thankful for this.
He selected a table that was a fair distance away from the others in the inn, the only digimon coming near was a Gabumon waiter they didn't know, and offered them menus from which to order.

"Let's see..." Veemon studied the menu like he might Leith's deck of cards. He used to absolutely love admiring those things and all the power contained within them, all the ways Leith had to be more than just a target. It was a reminder the young man himself was always the true source of their power and bond, and when they stood together they- Veemon almost frowned, but he caught himself this time. His problem was his problem, and while it was very generous of Luke to keep him company like this Veemon thought he'd repay the rabbit by not shifting his own problems onto Luke's shoulders.
"Ooh! The spaghetti and meatballs are finally on special! I forgot, Spaghetti Tuesdays." Of course Veemon objected to the consumption of meat that formerly belonged to living things, but in the digital world that was very rarely the case. "And... oh, garlic mashed potatoes for the side. And Kokatorimon Cola." Well, if few things that really lifted Veemon's mood these days, food was certainly among them. Leith knew it for sure, too. He certainly had to cover enough of Veemon's midnight raids plenty of times, even going so far as to entirely restock the family fridge from memory one time when the drake's self-control took a brief vacation. Leith was so mad that he-
Nope, not this time either. That wasn't the right line of thought. If Veemon felt down, so did everyone around him. So Veemon simply decided he wouldn't feel down. He was taking everything in stride, just like he always did. It was that easy... right?

Luke licked his lips at the prospect of that. "Sounds delicious! Okay, I'll have that too." he said, finishing with a smile. He noted that Veemon seemed to be happy at the prospect of food. The Elecmon also watched Veemon's expression, hoping that he was coping alright.
Luke had learned how to keep his temper in check when around Veemon. While of course he was outraged by the injustice put upon this wonderful blue drake, he had by now learned that letting his displeasure be known was pretty unhelpful.
The Gabumon waiter returned, and Luke confirmed that he'd like to have what Veemon ordered.
"Alright, two Spaghetti and Meatball specials with garlic mashed potato and Kokatrimon Colas it is." he confirmed, writing it down on a notepad, then politely removed the menu's from the table and left them on their own while their lunch was being prepared.
In the silence that followed, Luke felt the need to speak to his boyfriend in confidence. He removed the flat cap from his head, putting it under his seat, then set his blue eyes on Veemon's red ones, then forced himself to speak out.
"How are you coping with all this, Blue?" he asked, gently. He wanted to say more, but held his tongue. He just wanted to know what was on Veemon's mind at the moment. And if Veemon needed some help, he would be delighted to help however he could.
