As a portal rippled open along the jagged cliffside, a tamer stepped out, with two rookies in tow. D-Terminal was already out, tapping a message and sending it off as quickly as possible. "I need to update Amy," the blonde stated, freeing one hand from the device to brush back damp hair. It felt so odd to use the shower in her parents house! It had been so long! Of course, she had been clean regardless, but there was something different about showering in one's home! Except, in a way, it also wasn't her home, was it? "I hate time differences." It had been such a hassle when trying to emergency-message Katherine earlier, too!
Today had been such a mess, hadn't it? It was a wonder that the teen wasn't dead on her feet and just wanting to climb into a semi-familiar bed. Between destroying Ela's house, and spending a Digital-Day with a newbie to the world, it was really exhausting! And on top of that? It was also the first time the tamer-partner duo had visited the Human World in far longer than either was comfortable in admitting! Amongst other things, of course. But Maia didn't care to recount the whole day at the moment.
"I totally expected Mom to cry more."
"I just want to know what the deal with toast is," Ela mumbled, as the portal closed behind her. Kuu had bantered on and on about it, but the bunny really wasn't sure the importance of it! But instead of getting any proper answer, Kuu's mouth gaped at the Terriermon, while Maia finished checking anything else of importance on the D-Terminal, completely ignoring the confusion of the bunny.
The truth was, toast was only important to Kuu.
"You sure we should be out here though? If mom checks on us and we're gone, you know she's gonna freak out."
"And I'm going to 'freak out,' if I have to stay there too long," Maia uttered, flatly, while taking a seat on the edge of the rocks. Swinging her feet over the ledge, the girl looked out to the unsettling sea. There was a time where sitting on the edge would have made her toes curl. But, instead, the blonde scooted a couple inches further to the edge.
Nothing would happen anyway. Kuu would always catch her. "Y'could at least let me digivolve before you jump," the rookie stated, matter-of-fact. Mind reader? Maybe. Maybe, he'd just gotten used to his tamer's antics. Or, maybe enough biomerging had left a strong enough mental impact to know what the girl was thinking about.
A small click came from the blonde's cheek, while she shrugged. "Is it jumping, if I fall?"
"No! Mind-game-questions are my job! You gotta stop now cause they're mine!" Yes, because Kuu owned specific questions. It was clearly a rule, and Maia should know better!
Ela, being a newcomer to the group, was understandably lost! "I don't get it." Bringing a paw to her chin, the bun mulled over the question. "There are no bungee cords and absolutely no science! If you want to science, you need at least some figures. Preferably paper and," she paused, realizing that she had definitely garnered the attention of the others present. "We're not science-ing, are we?"
"No. No, we are not."
Well now that that was determined, it seemed to raise more questions! "Why are we talking about jumping off a cliff, then?"
"Mai used to be afraid of heights! So we fixed it with uh," Kuu scrunched his nose, trying to grasp at the few logical strands in his brain. Oh, so close! But, no dice. "Heights? We fixed heights with heights."
"I mean, it worked."
Clearly, it had! Otherwise, there was no way the tamer would be sitting where she was right now! Or even remotely close to this area! "Fixing a fear via exposure totally makes sense!" The Terriermon gave an affirmative nod. "Weren't you worried about, like, not being caught though?" To this, the bunny received only silence, while Kuu and his tamer exchanged glances. They had definitely considered the possibility, hadn't they? They couldn't have been that oblivious, right? Even Ela knew that heights and humans dropping from them didn't really mix too well! And she didn't generally have many interactions with humans! She was a bunny of science, not socializing! "Why're we jumping now, if you're not scared though?"
This was also met with silence! But, at least she was graced with a shrug from the girl! "Is it like, to keep from becoming afraid of heights from underexposure? Or, an adrenaline thing? Are we making Kuu work on reflexes? Do I have to jump? I think my big ears make it cheating." By now, the Assistant Terriermon should have realized that asking more than one question at once wasn't going to get her any good answer! She was supposed to be smart!
"How about we play cards, instead?" the blonde suggested, fully intent on derailing the mass amount of inquiries, while pulling one knee back up, so that she could turn and place a deck of cards onto the ground beside her.
"Yes! Cards!"
"No eating them," Maia specified, slowly.
To this, the pipefox let out a long groan, before rolling his eyes to settle onto Ela. "I don't know 'bout you, but I never drop my human, by the way," he chimed. Something about the tone seemed oddly cheerful, but equally agitated! How dare someone suggest that Kuu would fail his tamer?
Was he actually mad, though?
The bunny had to pause, tilting her head cautiously, while assessing the comment. Should she apologize? Was it actually offensive? As a scientist and not a partner, Ela realized she wasn't entirely certain! But, before she could say anything, Kuu chirped, "we should play twenty one! Cards aren't tasty when they involve counting!"
"I don't know how to play that," Ela hesitated, while moving closer to the deck of cards. "I don't know a lotta card games," she admitted. Card games hadn't really been in her career field!
"S'fine! We'll teach you! It's real easy!"
Maybe she hadn't actually upset the Kudamon! That was pretty promising on its own! Thus, no apologies needed to be granted! At least not for now. Which was a relief! Perhaps, she should work on understanding the dynamic between tamers and their digimon? It sounded like something that could loosely transfer into scientific-type-things!
But for the moment, learning card games took priority!
"I'm in, then!"
