Getting Up To Speed (Lantis)
|
Post by Johan Walker on Jul 14, 2020 3:15:02 GMT
Well, this was a nice surprise! Speed was just hanging out at AEGIS HQ, watching some TV, when he got a Tamernet message saying that Lantis of all Digimon wanted to meet him at the Spartan Training Grounds! Speed was eyeing Lantis during that initiation with the new agents, but he didn't expect Lantis to actually take him up on the offer. So of course Speed accepted!
Though the odd part was that Lantis did indeed want it to just be the two of them today. While that did raise a couple of questions, the thoughts that ran through Speed's mind were definitely not questions, that's all that needs to be said about that.
You're meeting with Lantis at the Spartan Training Grounds? Speed suddenly "heard" his brother's voice in his head as Psych floated into the room, nearly scaring the armor off of Speed as he grasped his chest with his right claw, breathing heavily.
"Didn't Sophie tell you to NOT read minds without permission?!"
You are my brother. That means that rule does not apply to you. A small smile appeared on Psych's lips afterwards. Well? Aren't you going to meet him down there?
"Yeah yeah, of course I am! It's just, er... you know..."
Psych nodded. I understand your fears, but you do like Lantis, right? It should not be a reason for you to not spend time with him.
"...yeah, you're right. Thanks, Psych. I should get going." Speed would then get off from the couch and run right out of the room at high speeds. A few seconds later he would run right back into the room. "And I don't care that I'm your brother, you don't get to peek into my mind when you want to anymore," he said before running out of the room again. Once getting to the Spartan Training Grounds, Speed noticed how cloudy the sky was. Definitely not the clear blue it usually was, he hoped it wouldn't rain on their parade today. While the Flamedramon variant was usually pretty confident and cocky, right now he walked through the area like the new kid on his first day of school. Of course, once spotted Lantis he would pick up that confident act right back up.
Sure that meant he was going to fake how he was generally feeling for right now, but Psych wasn't hear to let Lantis know that, so take that, Psych. Right now, Speed's main goals were to find Lantis and have a good time, without letting any random nearby Digimon chastise him again like back in the old days.

"Heh, look at you, getting all ready for your date..."
Lantis gasped and blushed when he heard his partner Sophie say that. He turned and tried to hide his hairbrush, even though he had been using it to tidy his mane in front of the mirror for the past five minutes.
"I-it's not a date, Sophie, we're just... sparring, as agreed earlier." Lantis explained quickly.
"Yeah, because brushing your mane is such an important first step for sparring." Sophie said, grinning. "It's okay though, I get it, you fancy Speed and he fancies you. So you just want to meet up and see what it's all about, right?"
"Yeah... yeah that's right." Lantis admitted, putting down his brush. He knew better than to argue with Sophie with this after all, she herself was dating a handsome young human named Kenny, so he knew she was putting two and two together correctly.
"It's fine, big guy." Sophie patted his back. Lantis liked it when she did that. "You probably know more about dating than I do so I won't presume to offer advice..."
"Can you? Please?" Lantis asked. "Like... thinking about him and the way he was flirting with me earlier... I really don't want to mess this up."
Sophie considered. All she could think of was her own mother's advice to her before meeting Kenny. She simply relayed the words given to her. "Well... be honest with him, and honest with yourself." she said. "Ask what he likes and if you feel comfortable with it, provide. And let him know what you like too. Don't build your relationship up around lies. If he simply admires you as a professional colleague, respect that, and don't cross the boundary. If he wants more, learn just how much he would like with you. And you do the same. Alright?"
Lantis couldn't hold back and gave Sophie a hug for saying those words. That was perfect advice. Sophie tolerated it for a few moments, then patted his arm to indicate she would like to be released now. He did so.
"Alright, you go out there." Sophie said, raising her digivice, then opened a portal that would lead to the Spartan Training Grounds. Lantis waved a goodbye, then walked through it, feeling the familiar elation of reentering the digital world.
Of course, once he was there, Speed was already present. The Leomon gave a grin, of course the speedy drake would be there on time. "Glad to see you made it." he said, nodding his head with acknowledgement. "So then..." he wondered what to say without being awkward. "I'm curious to know, what do you think of AEGIS so far?" he asked, hoping this would be a good line to start their initial conversation.

After looking around the grounds for around a minute, Speed had finally spotted Lantis. The Flamedramon variant would casually walk right up to him, as if he wasn't just walking around like a scared little kid a few seconds ago. "Wassup, Lan?" Speed would say in his usual tone of voice, sporting a big cocky grin on his face.
Speed had worn his entire armor set for this meetup, but he figured right now would be okay to take at least some of it off. He grasped onto his mask-helmet and pulled it off, revealing a very handsome looking Veemon-like face underneath it. "So, what'd you call just me out here for? A spar? Or something a bit more personal, hm?" He was only lightly teasing Lantis with this, like he usually does to others.
Lantis then asked Speed what the drake thought of AEGIS so far. After thinking about it for a short bit, he came up with an answer. "Well, everyone there definitely has personality alright. Except for Dokamon, he strikes me as a literal robot than anything else. What do you think about him?"
While the conversation would've been better if it was more lighthearted, Speed definitely had something a little bit heavier he wanted to talk about, at least only briefly. "So that Emiko lady, your partner's... grandmother, was it? She really doesn't seem to like that guy who runs DATS. Neither did that Justice kid. Have you met him? Is he actually that bad?"

When Speed took his helmet off and revealed his face, Lantis felt his digicore flutter for a moment at just how cute his face was. But, of course, he held back his urges for the moment, he didn't want to make this situation difficult. However, given that Speed had already made a few verbal passes at him indicating his interest, the Leomon couldn't resist making some passes back.
"Heh, put that in slow motion and it'd be absolutely gorgeous." he remarked after Speed removed his helmet. "I have to say, seeing your face like this, you just look amazing." He would be happy to elaborate on this of course, but currently he was mostly testing the waters to see how the drake responded to such words.
Speed asked why Lantis had called him out here, if it was really sparring or something more. To this, Lantis felt that he had to be more direct here. "Well... I couldn't help but notice that you seem to be... rather interested with me, given our flirting exchange at the AEGIS headquarters before. And... well..." his cheeks blushed a little here, but, he remembered Sophie's advice to hold honesty as the means forward. "I admit that I'm rather interested in you too... so, I called you out here so that we can, maybe, settle this situation? It's very important for our professional relationship of course."
Speed answered his question with a mention that Dokamon was somewhat robotic. "Hmm. Yes, I've noticed that about him." he began. However, he didn't want to be known for backtalking his colleagues when they weren't around. After all, Speed was the mercenary of his tamer. "Maybe he just needs a bit of encouragement to express himself?" the Leomon suggested. "I know Dokamon isn't a bad digimon, just perhaps... he needs to learn about how to deal with people?"
Speed then asked about Emiko. Lantis paused for a moment, sitting down next to him so that he could gather his thoughts. Eventually, he spoke. "Grandma Emiko... I don't know her relations with this Director Suzuki of DATS. Neither do I know of Justice's dealings with him. But I take them seriously in their words to avoid him until we can absolutely get the drop on him. As far as I know, he's an asshole with actual power. If we act too soon, he can destroy AEGIS, so, I'll keep a wide berth from him."
With that said, Lantis then wanted to change the subject. "So then. Back to the original point... I noticed you flirting with me subtly... I just have to ask... are you... serious about that?" he understood it would probably be a bit awkward to ask directly like that, but, so far he knew very little about Speed so far, and didn't want any misunderstandings to occur. After all, the Leomon thought that the Speedramon was very attractive, and if he did actually like him, he wanted to know what the terms were, so to say. If it was just professional admiration, then he'd keep it at that. But if romantic feelings were involved, Lantis would rather know what the wavelength was sooner than later.

It took every ounce of strength that Speed had to not blush when Lantis called him cute. Despite his best efforts though, a small light pink line of blush did appear across his cheeks. At least he didn't become fully red though. "W-Well of course I am. You ever see a not-cute Flamedramon out there?" He would then drop his overconfident tone. "But for real though, thank you."
When Speed asked Lantis why he invited him here, it turned out that it wasn't just to spar. The Leomon stated that he noticed how the Speedramon was looking at him back at AEGIS HQ. Speed smiled, happy with the confirmation that Lantis did indeed notice that. He then admitted his interest in Speed as well, and basically wanted to discuss and settle the situation. "Well I am open to suggestions," Speed replied with a smirk.
So it definitely wasn't just Speed that noticed Dokamon's lack of emotion. "The only time he even comes alive is when someone mentions a fork, or has a fork. Dunno what's up with that, but the dude's terrified of those things. Asked Psych to find out for me and he simply said no." On that subject, Lantis states that maybe Dokamon just needed to learn how to deal with others. "...you have a point. He IS stuck with Johan all day inside his little computer lab. Both of them need some sunshine, I say."
After a brief discussion about DATS and Suzuki, Lantis went back to the original subject. He asked Speed if he actually meant all that flirting he sent to Lantis' way. It was here that the drake dropped his cool 'mon persona. "Of course I did. I joke around with everyone, but I don't flirt with just anyone. I admit... that I find you attractive as well, and your earlier compliment actually... well, it meant a lot to me. I'd love to get to know you more, Lantis."

Lantis really did blush when Speed confirmed that he was being serious. It was really something when you had a crush on someone and they reciprocated your feelings. However, Lantis would have to halt the butterflies rising in his stomach about all this. While it was established that they did like each other, he next needed to know on what terms they could build on this. What was Speed's personality? His history? His hobbies, likes, dislikes, all that. Sophie's advice was forefront in his mind, he needed to know that if they wanted to make something healthy grow from this.
The first subject to talk about was Dokamon. Lantis thought this was fine, after all, Speed and his brother Psych were Johan and Dokamon's mercenaries. They had to get along well to work as a functioning team after all.
"Hmm, yes, I've heard about that. Apparently Dokamon had an unfortunate incident with a fork. I think it best to not put pressure on that trauma until he's ready to address it." the Leomon said, speaking his mind.
And at hearing the news that Dokamon was kept in his computer lab all day, Lantis raised an eyebrow in disapproval. "Well, he's not going to socialize like that is he?" he asked. "Hmm. Perhaps we could find out something that Dokamon is interested in, then build up from there?"
Then the subject returned to their feelings, and once again, Lantis felt his cheeks grow warm. "Ah, well, I'd love to know more about you too, Speed." he edged a little closer to him. "So then... let's take it from the top, shall we?"
The Leomon engaged his eyes, assumed a serene smile, then gently prompted, "So then. Could you please start? What sort of things do you enjoy doing?" he thought this was a simple enough first step.

"Unfortunate doesn't even cover it," Speed replied, talking about Dokamon's fear again. "Johan said that when he first introduced Dokamon to his family, who was a Kapurimon at the time, one of his family members got so scared that they threw a fork right into Kapurimon's eye. His EYE! Who WOULDN'T be terrified of them after that? My eyes are pretty sensitive, that's why I wear the helmet 90% of the time." Speed took a slight pause to breathe. "But yeah, we haven't been very pushy about it."
It was clear from Leomon's nonverbal reaction that he didn't appreciate Johan and Dokamon being inside all day on the computer. Speed simply shrugged. "That kid would marry a computer if he could, I think. I don't wanna be the one to take his toys away from him. I get enough wrath from my brother when I do stupid things."
Speed didn't think Lantis's idea about learning Dokamon's interests wasn't a bad one at all... it's just that Speed didn't think the guy even had any, other than protecting Johan, of course. The little blue guy didn't even like video games, and he only ate the stuff you're "supposed" to eat, like healthy stuff.
Speed's cheeks were also growing warm when they decided to try and get to know each other. He noticed Lantis moving a bit closer to him, but Speed was a bit nervous about screwing it up, so he didn't move. He wasn't gonna stop Lantis from doing so, however.
The first question was simple: what did Speed enjoy doing? "Let's see... I like exercise and running, that's a given. I have a bottomless belly and a high metabolism so eating is high up on my 'likes' list. Oh! Action movies! If there's no action or suspense then I simply get bored with them. Ah, what else...?" It was surprisingly hard to think of all the things you like on the spot like that...

Even though Lantis had something of experience in battle, the fact of Dokamon's trauma truly made him flinch. "Oh... oh my, please, don't elaborate further." he begged Speed. The thought of a fork in someone's eye was too horrible for him to tolerate.
Speed then said that they hadn't been too pushy about it. "Of course, completely understandable." Lantis replied.
The Leomon continued to listen further about Speed's employer. Speed didn't seem very optimistic about finding something they could home in on in this regard, and that was okay. Lantis would shelve this for later in this case. And he didn't seem very happy about his brother either. To this, Lantis wanted to know more.
"You say your brother gives you wrath when you do "stupid" things, right?" he repeated. Lantis then paused for a little while, trying to figure out the right words in his mind before he continued. He thought of the other siblings in his life. His human partner Sophie and her brother Colin; and Colin's partners Luke and Bellamy, also brothers. While, yes, he had witnessed them annoying each other enough for him to understand how frustrating siblings could be, well, he also had witnessed them supporting each other a lot as well, and, if anything, when he saw them at their best together, he rather wished he had a brother or sister of his own.
Still though, he wanted to say something helpful to Speed. "I don't think he really means you malice when he says those things." he said, thinking of how the siblings in his life reacted to each other.
But Lantis did his best to cast those thoughts aside for the moment and paid attention to what Speed was saying next. As he moved closer toward him and asked what his interests were, his muzzle formed a smile as he found that these interests aligned with his own. "Ah, training, it's so wonderful to hear that!" Lantis exclaimed. "Admittedly, as much as Sophie tries, we just don't manage to go to the digital world much to train. It's not her fault, but... if you really like me as you say, how about we train together sometimes when we get the chance?"
The Leomon's cheeks blushed a little as he wanted to say more, but, how could he do so with how early this conversation was? In the end, however, he thought of what Bellamy would say and decided to appeal to his emotional needs.
"Speed, I apologize if I'm being too presumptive here, but, I admit I'd like to work something out here." he said, carefully. "I really like you, you really like me, I guess... would you like to do any of those things with me, now that we have the chance? Ah, and action movies too? I'd love to watch them with you."
Lantis awaited the answer carefully. He knew he had asked Speed out here as a means for training, but, now that he knew that there were feelings between them, the Leomon rather would like to explore the feelings more than the combat capabilities.

Speed crossed his arms together as he shuddered, sharing Lantis' feelings for not wanting to continue any further. "Trust me, I wasn't going to. Like I said, sensitive eyes." The Speedramon would then toss his helmet over to Lantis. "Check the eyeholes, they're fitted with invisible glass so that no specs of dust or anything enter my eyes while I'm running. Pretty cool, huh?"
Lantis questioned the way Speed spoke about his brother. He probably thought the two of them were constantly at each other's throats, with the words that Speed chose to describe it. He waved his hand in dismissal. "Oh no no, we don't hate each other at all or anything like that! I'm just stupid and tend to do things that would get both of us into trouble or get us caught as Digimon. Sometimes I don't listen to him and he uses his powers to get me to stop, but that's a last resort, apparently."
Speed would pause for a bit before continuing, his voice more solemn. "I'm the younger one of us, so I have a lot to owe to Psych for keeping me alive. We love each other, you know? In fact, he was the one who gave me encouragement to come out here today..."
While Speed was listing off his own interests, Lantis mentioned how much he liked training as well, asking Speed if he would like to train with him if they ever got the chance. "Do you even need an answer, big guy? It would clearly be a 'hell yes', heheh."
Things would then get more intimate again as Lantis asked Speed if he would like to do any of his interests with Lantis. Speed knew exactly what Lantis was getting at; he was asking the Speedramon out on a date. The 'mon's heart started thumping even faster than usual, but he managed to keep his cool outwardly. He looked at Lantis right in the eyes and opened his mouth to answer-
Grroooooowwwwllll
"EEP!" Speed yelped in surprise as he placed his hands on his growling belly. "Way to ruin the mood there, pal," he would angrily tell his stomach before looking back up at Lantis, a big blush on his face. "Ahah... we could go get some food if you want?"

Lantis inspected the helmet, impressed. "Ah, nice touches there, good thinking." he said, knowing from the principle of human car windscreens that travelling at high speed required some protection from debris.
Speed then said that he and his brother didn't hate each other at all. Lantis blushed as he realized he might have indicating he was thinking that. "Oh, no, it's fine, I didn't think of that. I mean, I've seen Sophie and Colin bicker, as well as Luke and Bellamy, and I'm sure they still love each other. Just... yeah, I am aware that siblings can be difficult sometimes."
Speed then said that he was stupid and got them into trouble sometimes. Lantis wouldn't hear of it, reaching out to pat his back gently. "Don't say that about yourself, you're not stupid." he said. "The very fact that you're aware of your actions and their consequences disproves that altogether in my view."
However, that didn't mean that Speed might need help to get his impulses under control. Lantis hoped he could be of help here. While he was a bit uncomfortable at hearing that Psych would use his powers to force his little brother to be controlled, well, he'd put that discomfort to the side for now.
The Leomon smiled as Speed confirmed that he'd like to share some of his time with him so they could do things they enjoyed together. But first, it seemed that his stomach intervened.
Lantis chuckled at that. "Well, these things happen. I suppose we should have something to eat first." he said, feeling a little peckish himself. "I know of a cafeteria nearby that's recently opened up. Thankfully a few enterprising digimon from Rosewood figured out that digimon training at these grounds would get hungry pretty quickly, so they opened up business. Let's check it out, shall we?"
If that was settled, Lantis would lead Speed through a forest path for about a quarter of a mile before they approached a recently built wooden kitchen, with a variety of stone tables and chairs arranged in front of it. It was currently bare, given that it was not yet lunch time, but there were digimon present in the kitchen. Lantis approached the counter and rung the bell there. There were some gasps and then a Floramon and Gabumon quickly approached, looking flustered.
"Um... so sorry, we're not open quite yet..." the Floramon said, the Gabumon nodding. But a third digimon made their presence known, a scowling little Impmon-X followed them.
"We will be in 5 minutes, so take their order, geez." he said. "You guys wanna make a good business here or not?"
"S-sorry, Max..." Floramon apologized. Lantis raised an eyebrow. He had heard enough words around the digital world grapevine to know who this was.
"Excuse me, did I hear that right?" Lantis asked. "Max? The Impmon-X? You're Bellamy's boy aren't you?"
"What?!" Max snapped, turning at him, his one green eye not hidden by an eyepatch glaring up at him. "What makes you think that?!"
"Well, other than the things you share with him - the fur, the accent, the disdain for pants, I happen to work with Bellamy and we're aware of your existence." Lantis explained. Max looked angry for a moment, then sighed, relaxing his expression.
"Yeah, I guess you got me. I'm Max, and Bellamy is my dad, but, I don't feel ready to meet him yet, you know?" he asked. "So, can we please keep this at a professional level, Lantis? Leading digimon of AEGIS?"
"Hmm, I suppose we can." Lantis said, shrugging. He was more interested in Speed at the moment than Bellamy's son anyway, so he wouldn't press the matter. "So, you say you're opening in 5 minutes? I think we'd like to make an order in that case."
"Good stuff. Floramon, take the order, Gabumon, you follow my lead in the kitchen." Max said. Floramon then awkwardly raised a notepad with her paws to take their order.
"Well, Speed, what would you like?" Lantis asked, rather excited now. While he had leard only a little about Max, he knew that he was an aspiring chef, and whatever he cooked up for them would be pretty good.

Speed grinned when Lantis complimented his thinking about adding in the glass lenses to his helmet. Definitely made him feel better about his own intelligence. "Thanks. It really does help when I'm running."
Right now the two had an urgent matter to deal with: Speed's hunger. The ultimate was definitely embarrassed about his stomach rumbling in front of the one Digimon he never wanted it to happen in front of, but at least Lantis was understanding about it. "Yeah, getting some food wouldn't be a bad idea. Don't want my stomach constantly complaining about it during our..." Date? Hangout? What's the right word to describe this?
Lantis mentioned knowing about a cafeteria not too far from the training grounds, commenting that a few Digimon from Rosewood figured that other Digimon would get pretty hungry after training. "Well can't say they're wrong now, can I?"
Speed would then follow Lantis down the forest path, wanting so badly to just zoom his way down there but he didn't want to leave the Leomon's side. After the meal he was definitely gonna take the big guy out on a run, he was planning. They would then come across an outdoor sitting area underneath some sort of shelter, with a wooden kitchen and everything. When Lantis rung the bell, a Gabumon and Floramon both approached the two, and both looking very nervous.
What's up with them? Speed wondered to himself.
They were about to say that they were not open yet before a third Digimon, an Impmon-X named Max, told them that they were just five minutes from opening so it was okay to take their order, although he said this in a very unpleasant tone.
Lantis seemed to know about this Impmon-X, however. He asked if he was one of Bellamy's boys, to which Speed looked shocked about. "Wait, Bellamy has a son!? I didn't think he was the father type at all," Speed admitted.
It got even more complicated than that, it seemed that Max didn't even meet his father yet, and wasn't planning to quite yet, so he requested to keep things professional. That confused Speed a bit, but he was too hungry to care all too much at that moment. Right now, the Speedramon had to decide what he wanted to eat. "Hm... I'm not all that picky, so I'll take the chef's recommendation!"

Well then, it was time to get to their destination. And once they arrived at the cafeteria, they then came into contact with Max. Speed admitted that he didn't think Bellamy was the father type. Lantis turned and grinned at him.
"Well, I probably shouldn't say this too freely, but, back in the day, Bellamy just adored his boyfriend Coronamon." he said. "It's of no surprise to me that a few kids came into existence in the meantime."
Unfortunately this talk didn't fit well with Max. He seemed to be straining his politeness when he said in response "Yes, well, even if you're colleagues with my dad, please mind your own business, thanks." he said, scowling.
Lantis couldn't let that slide though. He had to make one last effort. "Max, please, I know your dad really well, even if you don't like what you know of him now, I think he'd at least want to know you..."
"Lantis, stop, please." Max raised his paw with a sigh, not in anger, just of impatience in getting to the point. "I know what dad would feel, just... I want to wait for the right moment to meet him, okay? And right now isn't the right moment."
He said that in a way that indicated he wanted the matter to be closed. Lantis did want to say more, but, of course, he understood. It also seemed clear that Max didn't want to have this conversation right now, and besides, Lantis was here to spend time with Speed, so he'd say nothing more on the matter.
"Okay then, so, Max, what do you recommend?" the Leomon asked instead. Realizing that the conversation had returned to food, Max's expression lit up with enthusiasm.
"Well then, I've just happened to finish teaching these guys how to make what I think to be perfect burger recipes, so, I recommend that." he said.
"Alrighty then, two of these 'perfect burgers' will be our order then, thanks, Max." Lantis said, paying for the cost. Max beamed at the conversation changing from his family to cooking.
He then turned to Floramon and Gabumon, being much more nicer to them than before. "Okay! Let's put what you've learned to the test!"
With that, he turned around to Lantis and Speed again. "Please, take a seat at a table, we'll give you your burgers shortly." he told them. Lantis shrugged and sat at a table, inviting Speed to do the same.
"I reckon this should be good, from what I know of Max, he goes the extra mile of making sure everything he cooks is delicious." the Leomon explained to the Speedramon.

"A boyfriend, huh?" Speed responded with a grin of his own when Lantis told him about Bellamy and Coronamon. "I imagine with a Coronamon things might've gotten a little steamy, eh?"
Speed simply stood there and blinked while Max stated how he wasn't ready to meet his father yet to Lantis, since he didn't know Bellamy or Max that well he felt like he couldn't comment, so the drake just simply stood there awkwardly. Max definitely wanted the subject to be dropped. "Lanty, it's fine, it's what he wants, y'know? Let's just order and go sit down."
Speed thought the idea of a "perfect burger" was beyond fantasy but he was excited to try it either way. Although that might just be because it's near lunchtime and he was hungry enough to eat practically anything. After their orders were put through and Lantis and Speed went to go sit down, the former had mentioned how Max was dedicated to his meals and made extra sure that they were delicious. "This should be exciting then, huh?" Speed thought that nothing could ruin this outing at this point.
And then a trio came in to ruin it.
"Ah hey, this place just opened up," A voice could be heard from not too far away. It came from a Flamedramon, a "proper" Flamedramon, along with two of what was assumed to be his buddies, a Digmon to his left and a Shurimon to his right. "Yo chef, you got a table for me and my buds?"
"Oh crap," Speed muttered. "Lantis, we have to get out of here, they can't see me-"
"Wait, is that who I think it is? Guys, look who it is, it's one of those Freak Twins from back in the Village of Beginnings!"
"Fuck..."

Lantis couldn't help but grin at the pun, but had to wipe it from his face as he spoke afterward. "Please don't tell Bellamy I told you. Just... Coronamon's been lost in the Dark Area for a couple of years now, and it really hurts him when it's mentioned." he sighed and shook his head. "I know Bells can be a pesky little shit sometimes, but, please, don't hurt him from that angle."
He trusted Speed so far, so as long as he agreed to that, it would be the last he spoke of it for now, wanting to go back to better subjects.
And in return, he also dropped the subject of Bellamy to his son. While he did think it would be nice if he and the Impmon met and resolved whatever problems were there, yeah, he understood how this sort of thing could be difficult. So he said nothing further on that subject.
When Max and the others went off to cook their burgers, Lantis grinned excitedly at Speed. "Heh yep, I've heard rumours about this one, I bet he's serious about how good they'll be."
Then Speed's mood seemed to fall when three digimon entered the cafeteria. A Flamedramon, Digmon and Shurimon. They called to the chef. Max regarded them coldly, his green eye flaring while he supervised Gabumon in cooking the burgers.
"I am the chef, I am responsible for the food being cooked." he said to them as though they were simple children. "You will need to talk to the waitress, who is Floramon."
"A-ah, right!" Floramon said, stepping up to the counter. "Yes, we have plenty of room, please take a seat...?"
Her voice trailed off when the Flamedramon turned his attention to Speed, and spoke in very insulting language to him.
"Chef Max, what do I do?" she asked, frightened.
"Let 'em work it out, but if they start a fight, they're outta here." Max muttered in response, but his sensitive ears had picked up what was going on and he was fairly sure that these three digimon were menaces that would not be welcome here.
Lantis also registered Speed's distress. Knowing at once to stand up for his new boyfriend, the 6'6" Leomon did so, standing between them and Speed.
"Do you gentlemen have any business with Speed here?" he asked, coldly and clearly. He hoped this gesture would be enough, but boy was he willing to take this further. But he would not be the provocateur here, he would simply take things as they came.

Speed had a solemn look on his face when Lantis explained how Coronamon was lost in the Dark Area. He hadn't been to that place but he and Psych heard some pretty nasty stories about it. And if it really hurt someone that bad to even hear it be mentioned, then whoever would bring it up would just be a huge asshole. "Don't worry, I'll just pretend I heard nothing about it. I feel kinda bad for him, though."
The new Flamedramon blinked when the chef started to talk to them as if they were children. He said that they'd have to speak to the waitress, who was Floramon. "Ohhhhh..."
"You are unbelievably dumb sometimes, Fusao," The Digmon said, making a jab at his friend.
"Because you're the brightest bulb in the pencil case, Ujarak."
"Just as dumb as they were back then, some things never change," Speed bitterly mumbled.
Then the trio noticed Speed and decided to walk up to start a conversation, startling the Floramon in the process. Lantis literally stood up for Speed, asking the trio if they had any business with him. "Yeah, we knew him back in the Village of Beginnings. He and his brother took three times longer than usual to Digivolve, and when they did it was straight into their Ultimate forms! I was there that day, scariest day of my life right there."
"Please leave me alone."
"Even if I wanted to start something, being kicked out of a restaurant isn't a good look for a Digimon. Ujarak, Hayate, let's go." The three would then walk away and calmly back to the Floramon so that she could seat them and take their orders. Speed sighed as soon as they were out of hearing range.
"Thank Yggdrasil they left... they're probably gonna try and pester me again when they're done..." Speed was seemingly hesitant on talking any more about those three.
