Carlos slowly opened his eyes with a painful groan, his vision still blurry. His head was practically spinning as he tried to get back on his feet, but a sudden wave of nausea and pain hit him suddenly, the man falling on his back once again into the dusty dirt below. Seeing how he wouldn't be able to move for a moment, he looked down and his body and quickly pat his hand around his chest. He didn't feel any blood pouring out yet, nor any paralysing pain anywhere, so it was safe to assume he hadn't sustained any serious injuries. If anything, the worst that had happened was that the black and red leather body armor Siltence had given him after joining the knights had been torn ever so slightly, claw marks crossed around his chest where that dracomon X had slashed at him.
That's what made his mind finally break out of it's momentary hazy stupor, the man suddenly glancing at the steep hill he had just been sent tumbling down from. Right, he was supposed to be running away from the creature glaring at him from the upper side of said hill, not lay down and wait for it to come and finish the job. With a sudden rush of adrenaline now coursing through him again, he forced himself back on his feet and began running away once again, trying his best not to trip over his feet as he immediatelly was assaulted by a feeling of nausea and dizziness yet again, all the while he could hear the creature roaring after him, slowly but surely getting closer.
He wasn't sure if he had accidentally stumbled into that dragon's territory, or if it was looking for an easy snack. Whatever the case, the man had been spending a good part of the past half hour stuck in a terrifying game of cat and mouse with the thing, the blue and red dragon finally managing to corner him against a rather steep hill after much unsuccesful hiding attempts. Stuck with nowhere to go, the man figured it was better to go down fighting, so he charged the creature intent on at least shoving it out of his way. That quickly turned to prove a big mistake, as the dragon's claws glowed with a blue light and met him mid charge, slashing him across the chest and sending him backwards down the very painful hill.
All he knew now was that if he ever made it out alive of this, he was never taking another cheap job delivering things on foot from one settlement to another. Doing such a thing without partners was tantamount to suicide.

She knew this area well.
It was the turf of a very aggressive dracomon x, one that had trouble with everyone around here. Which begged the question of why she was even there in the first place… Truth be told other than the rich mineral veins and some of the easier to grab food there wasn’t much of a reason. Dragons tended to ignore you if you didn’t move and blended in. Given that she smelled like the land it was hard for them to track her; harder still given that she could go just about anywhere and not get caught here.
So with her having a few chunks of metal ore in her bag the spadamon was ready to head home… until she heard that roar of challenge and what sounded like a small scuffle. Usually when dragons attack one another they are very loud. But with there only being one roar it dawned on her just a bit too late that the counterpart to this fight wasn’t draconic.
It could be a beast type or some other type of digimon that didn’t belong around here. Likely lost or hurt. She’d grit her teeth and glance down to the ore; they were too heavy to be toting around in this area and trying to scout out things… But when it came down to the wire lives were more important.
She’d sigh a bit and stash the bag of ores in a burnt out husk of a tree, one of the many stashes she had around in the dragon valley. She hoped that no one would check in there while she was away. Gritting her teeth she’d sprint towards where she heard the roaring; kicking off of a facing of a cliff, using a branch and then the edge of the same tree to climb up the cliff in a simple bound.
She’d glance around, her ears flicking this way or that; she was worried that she maybe might have missed it when the dragon sounded off again. She’d snort and run in that direction. Sliding to a stop as she saw something that she really didn’t expect.
A human.
A lone human.
The self same human that was picking themselves up and running away from the dracomon-x that was tearing after them. She’d grit her teeth and glance about. The steep hill lead into a corner didn’t it? One that in that shape the human wouldn’t be able to get away? She’d snarl in irritation and use her knowledge of the area to get around the pair without being spotted.
It was maybe about another minute before she could get into the proper position. After carlos passed her the spadamon jumped off of a sheer cliff. He’d be able to hear her armor ever so slightly as she landed behind him, coming up through her roll and punching at the underside of the dracomon-x’s jaw. If it didn’t clench it’s teeth it’d have a row of broken teeth somewhere in that mouth. Immediately following she’d hop a pair of steps back, her hand going up to the hilt of her sword…
”You know better to attack a fleshling Shimmer... You kill one and thirty more show up.”

Unsurprisingly for a man that had just fell down a hill it was rather hard for Carlos to maintain any distance he had gained on the dragon for too long, and soon enough he could feel the digimon practically being within arm's distance behind him. There wasn't anything he could do at this point, other than to keep running and pray. Pray he wouldn't trip or that the digimon would somehow grow bored of this chase.
In a rather insane bout of luck, something entirely different happened, as the man felt someone pass right next to him before he heard the distinct sound of something being punched and a shrill pained roar coming from the dragon behind him, causing the man to stop in his tracks, sheer shock and surprise as he turned around and see a black furred digimon with an equally black set of armor staring down at the dragon, who was now reeling back a bit, roaring in anger at Spadamon. It stared for a couple of moments more, studying carefully as if measuring her down. Evidently, it eventually decided risking any more broken teeth weren't worth the effort, and after another roar of pure anger and hate, it turned around and began flying away, glaring daggers at them every so often as its figure dissapeared behind one the many crags and hills of the valley.
As for Carlos well, he'd soon fall on his rump, letting out a sigh of relief as he grabbed at his head, the adrenaline finally wearing off as he felt the pain returning. He stood there for a moment, breathing heavily, before looking back up at the spadamon.
"T-thanks...I don't think I would have made it." He said in between heavy breaths, looking at the digimon with a thankful yet tired look.

She wasn’t surprised that the human probably couldn’t move all too well; humans were know for being kind of squishy but numerous. Individuals that had varied skills so much so it was next to impossible to know what one was like unless you spent your time with them. The cat stared up at the dracomon-x. Her sword slowly dragging off of her back and her eyes narrowing a bit as the dracomon-x seemed to think over what she said.
Seconds dragged on by and eventually the beast decided that it wasn’t worth fighting her over this. Roaring at her and then leaving in a huff; glaring at them and looking back to see if she was going to let down her guard. Once he was well and gone the spadamon’s green eyes flicked to where the human was. Hearing him fall back down.
He must have been hurt pretty bad if he was panting like this. The spadamon wordlessly went to him. Her hands checking to where the mon had slashed at him; she didn’t see any blood. Maybe some scrapes and that fall was likely nasty if he had been flung down that steep hill. She’d dig around in her bag, pulling out a length of plant; breaking it in half before handing one half to him. The other?
Well she’d be rubbing the ‘open’ part of it across those scrapes and cuts; it would burn really badly for maybe a moment before the pain would dull.
”Eat this. Will help with the pain. Like your aloe plant but a bit bitter. I cannot sit still when the dragons around here prey on travelers.”
The spadamon gave him a cursory look over, checking various spots and humming to herself afterwards. Her eyes kept glancing towards where the dracomon had gone. She’d grit her teeth. The ore would have to wait; this took priority but she was worried that another would find that stash…
”Can you walk?”

"Yeah I'm...I'm fine." Carlos replied, still trying to catch his breath, too tired to even try to back away from the digimon as she wordlessly began examining him up close. He might have objected, but if she wanted to rob him or something like that she would have probably done so already or let that dragon finish him off first, right?
Talk about insane luck though: not only had he run into the one digimon that would come to his aid in the middle of one of the so called more dangerous areas of the Digital World, but she even came prepared with medicine to tend to his wounds as well. Even he couldn't believe this stroke of luck. He'd give a curious look as she took out a plant from within her small back and went to place it on his scratched chest.
"What's that-" He'd start asking, before being stopped by a searing, burning pain in his chest as she rubbed that plant on him. Clearly that dragon's claw had dug deeper into the armor than he had anticipated, though thankfully still not enough to draw blood. Either it was holding back to toy with him, or this armor was way stronger than he gave it credit for. Regardless, the pain would somewhat subside as quickly as it came, though not comepletely, still lingering in the background as he looked at Spadamon, then at the plant she handed him. After a moment of hesitation he'd bite down on the plant with a loud crunch, munching a bit on it while feeling its rather bitter and unpleasant flavor. He'd force himself to swallow, and soon enough he'd indeed feel the pain dull a bit.
"Guess you must be used to this by now then. Here I thought I was the only guy stupid enough to come out here without a partner." He commented, looking back at her as he took another forced bite of the plant, his eyes looking the black feline up and down for a moment as she did the same, before he looked down at his still shaking legs as she asked if he could walk.
He slowly got up, feeling a bit nauseous as he did but managed to stay on his feet without falling, so that was something.
"Yeah, my legs are still working." He replied, taking a couple steps forward before the headache returned, his vision blurring a bit again as he stopped on his tracks, trying (and largely managing) not to fall. "Sorry...I'm feeling a bit woozy still. Rolling down a hill does that..." He said, a small hint of embarrasment in his tone, knowing all too well what a sad sight he was probably being at the time, battered and barely able to stand after just a scuffle with a rookie.

”You sound winded.”
Then again humans had a cascade of problems from what she knew. Her mother always going on about them. She had once been a mighty warrior paired with one while her father had been an explorer with another. Both had passed from the realm of the world leaving the two alone until they found another. So seeing this human felt a little odd; especially without a companion.
”It will burn for some time. But it clears out infections and forces wounds shut. Many here call it ‘the dragon’s tongue’. Due to shape.”
The spadamon shook her head and hearing the crunch she’d move to her bag; digging through it. She’d produce a length of bandage… measure his chest for a moment before biting one end. Spitting out the extra fabric before wrapping the ‘wound’ twice over. She’d worry about other nonsense later.
”One learns to survive when there is not much else of a choice. I’ve had to be on my own for a very long time.”
Seeing that the human was able to stand up; even feeling those eyes on her… She’d stare at him. Noting the shaky legs. She’d purse her lips, looking him up and down a few times before moving to a nearby burnt tree. He’d need some kind of brace right? Seeing an appropriate branch she’d hop on up and use the end of her sword to cut it off.
”A walking stick.”
She’d point to it as it crashed to the ground; there were a couple sturdy looking branches, if he picked one out she’d cut it off and be done with it. She’d make sure to wrap some parts in cloth so it wouldn’t eat as his hands.
”Getting slashed by a dracomon-x will do that. My home is not far. I will take you there so you can recover.”
This was less an offer and more her saying what needed to get done. She didn’t have the supplies to take care of him on her. The stuff she gave him was more for first aid rather than proper long term treatment. There was still the matter of what happened to his head…
”It’s about a thirty minute walk and there is some climbing. During those portions I will carry you on my back.”
The spadamon offered her hand to the human; knowing a very small amount of their kinds lingo…
”Geom.”

And winded he most certainly was. It had been a while since he'd had to exert this much energy on his own for this long, usually the worst he had felt was having to share said energy between Dio and Gio while they digivolved, but other than that he hadn't been this close to danger in a a while. Even more so being on his lonesome without any kind of plan or backup.
He would have objected or said something about the futility of her bandaging him while still wearing his armor, but it wasn't like he could take it off and just lay down in the middle of the valley in this state, less "Shimmering" came back to finish the job.
"Doesn't seem like the kind of neighbourhood I would pick to settle down on but then again I'm here without even a knife to protect myself." He said, his tone filled with a self deprecating mocking tone. Really, the more time he spent feeling his head pulsating in pain and the burning sensation in his chest, the more convinced he was of how poor of a choice he made trying to use this valley as a shortcut. If Dio found out he would probably mock Carlos for years.
Thankfully she was attentive enough to offer him a stick to walk with from one of the tree branches she cut off with her blade. Shifting his weight into the stick he found it relatively easier to stay standing upright. Though before he could thank her again he'd give her an odd look. She really wanted to bring him along to her home? She sure was really going out of her way to look out for him, unless she expected some sort of compensation.
"I don't really have much of a choice, do I?" He said shaking his head, knowing she would most likely not take a no for an answer. Not like there was much he could do to refuse: in his state, even an in training could realistically kick his ass. He didn't seem fond of the idea of her having to literally carry him up a hill, so hopefully he'd be able to walk on his own by the time they got there. Though deep down he suspected that was just wishful thinking. He shook his head with a sigh, before saying, "Lead the way, then."
As he began following her, she'd let out a sound that at first Carlos didn't even register as a word. It was only by the expecting silence that came after that he figured she was probably introducing herself? At least that's what he assumed "Geom" meant.
"Carlos." He replied with a nod before pausing and adding, "Thanks again...you really shouldn't be bothering so much over me."

”Many don’t settle here due to it’s danger. But there have been a few that have made an honest attempt. Do not think less of yourself just because of your inability to defend yourself against some of the tougher mons. Even I struggle against them.”
The fact that she had managed to stop the fight before it even started was due to her getting a good punch in. Making shimmer run off like that likely would just lead to him being bitter later. But he knew better to attack humans… They all did.
”You have a choice. Just anything else you pick wouldn’t be very good for you. I doubt you can climb in the state you are in, or run. So if you were to happen along into another dragon…”
She’d sigh a little bit and would nod, leading him along. It was slow going and this place was practically like a maze. The spadamon would stop by a burnt out tree on the way, leaning to check in it and scowling.
”Ah well… I suppose I can find more later.”
She’d tilt her head as he gave his answer. Carlos huh? That was a name she hadn’t heard; Icefang, rotscale, Banesbreath… All really high and mighty digimon in this area that loved tooting their own horns. Shimmer was just a younger version of them all and really their elements were respective of their names. Hearing him tell her that she shouldn’t bother she’d snort.
”Humans come through here more often than you think. When one of your kind experiences trouble or dies? A flock of humans comes along and upsets the balance. It took me years to find a proper calm among all of this. If I don’t help you; that happens again and my own safety is in question.”
The spadamon seemed to be doing this more out of the desire to make sure things didn’t change… but she’d pause and glance at him. Contemplating for a moment before shrugging.
”That and it was the right thing to do.”
Helping out a stranger in trouble that clearly was not in the wrong/ She’d lead him along; through many winding turns and eventually? She’d arrive at a cliff facing. Staring up at it and then glancing at the human.
”We’re here. I’ll climb up a little bit. Wrap your arms around me and once we’re up there… we’ll be ‘safe’ for the time being.”

"To be fair I'm not really used to go head to head against...well any digimon. I usually have my partners to do that but that's...not really an option right now." He said, shaking his head, cursing himself under his breath as he slowly kept walking after Geom. Thankfully the headaches and general dizziness kept him from mulling over those memories for too long.
Once they passed next to a hollowed out burnt tree Carlos would pause as he saw the black spadamon reach out and look for something inside said tree, only to come out with nothing.
"You looking for something?" He'd ask curiously, clearly trying to seem at least somewhat helpful. She had already done plenty for him, it was natural he'd want to repay the favor somehow.
As for her reason for helping out...well he couldn't say he didn't get where she was coming from. She seemed all too aware of humanity's tendency for sending more people to the meat grinder whenever something bad happened. Or simply just a search party if someone went missing in the middle of a dangerous location, which probably looked like the exact same thing to someone that wasn't human.
"Sounds about right. We can't leave trouble well alone." He shrugged, before looking at her in silence for a moment as she added how it was "the right thing to do." He simply smiled back. "Well, I'm happy you did." He said with a nod, wanting to thank her yet again but figuring she was probably getting tired of hearing that by now.
He looked up at the cliff and felt his heart sinking. Even in the best case scenario it would be incredibly hard for him to climb that. He would have rather not have to cling to a digimon half his size just to get up there, but again there wasn't much of a choice to be made. Letting out a resigned sigh he'd get close to the spadamon and carefully wrapped his arms around her as best as he could without obstructing her.
"Sorry again..." He sighed, hoping she'd wouldn't change her mind halfway through and leave him to his own devices on the cliffside.

”And your thoughts today were that you could fight a dragon with fist when they have claws? Most humans I’ve met have a tendency to at least use a light baton if cornered… don’t you have one?”
The spadamon tilted her head, watching him closely. She’d slow down or speed up as needed; but with the question he posed to her she’d sigh a bit. Tapping at her sword. It might not look it but it needed as much attention as her armor did.
”I left a bag of ores here after hearing shimmer’s roar. Suffice to say… It’s not here anymore. I bet it was that blasted chuumon again...”
She’d grumble a bit and kick at the tree, the ashen hunks of branch falling down around her and making her look a bit bitter about the fact she lost out on some resources to someone she felt didn’t deserve them.
”It’s not your fault, I’m just lamenting the fact i was unable to move as spritely while carrying them.”
She seemed to understand that maybe he might have taken that negatively. The spadamon stretched a bit and continued onwards. Hearing him speak up again the spadamon blinked and casted a glance in his direction. An odd smile that made her think… Were humans always this expressive? She was used to them being very dour and straightforward. Then again those that came here… weren’t particularly animated.
”It’s fine. Were I stronger you wouldn’t have needed to do this. I would have simply carried you.”
She said this matter of factly and with her tail wrapping around his midsection to help secure him she’d begin the climb. Her metal claws punching into the side of the mountain with ease as she went. It was methodical, slow and she didn’t seem the least bit stressed out by the looks of it.
Maybe about fifteen minutes later they’d get to the ‘top’ or at least where the spadamon would hoist the both of them up. She had kept her breath level the entire climb, looking no worse for wear. She’d unwrap her tail and adjust her sword. Checking over the bandages quickly before motioning for him to enter the cave with her.
”The sooner we’re out of the open the better.”
Inside? It was obvious her cave was extremely well lived in. A pair of stone cast ovens sat against the wall, a stack of firewood next to each. In the back there was a nest of blankets, pillows and various other comfort items. Even a set of well used smoking pipes!
There were some containers lining the wall and the spadamon knelt down next to one of them. Fishing out a small plastic baggy of oil, pouring it into a lantern so she could turn it on. Bringing light to the area for the human that no doubt would have issues here.
”I don’t have any chairs, just the nest. Take a seat and I’ll go over your wounds again. This time with something that isn’t just a quick fix.”
The spadamon started digging around in a well worn medical crate, the chunks missing out of it seemed to indicate a vicious fight to get a hold of it...
