Mechanically Adept
She’s had a lot of influences in her life that’s inspired her to tinker with things. When presented with something that she doesn’t yet understand the physical workings of, she naturally gets curious. Dismantling something while studying how that thing works is a cathartic hobby of hers, and through this process she’s quick to pick up on new ideas and concepts. Working with tools and machinery, and general troubleshooting are tasks that she enjoyably throws herself into, sparing little attention to other happenings around herself.
Metal Restoration Work
There’s something inherently satisfying to Harper about cleaning up corroded or oxidized metals and restoring lustrous shines to them. Applying a proper paint job after is icing on the cake. It’s extremely rewarding work in her humble opinion, and neat to observe when using odd methods like electrolysis. The idea that something battered by time and wear can be brought back to life with a bit of care never loses its appeal to her.

Personality:
Harper is a person that likes having structure and purpose in her life. Not having a direction can be as frustrating as it is stagnating. Strict routines aren’t what she’s looking for exactly, but she does appreciate getting up in the morning and knowing what she wants to get done that day. She is organized and attentive in her studies, and enjoys hands-on projects. Teaching others isn’t something she does well, but an attempt will be made if needed.
She has a strong preference for straight honesty, not only for transparency’s sake but to minimize miscommunications, which is something of a pet peeve of hers. A lot of immediate stress can be avoided with a lie, but those charades inevitably collapse and cause even more drama later. Working in tandem with her bluntness is her rational train of thought. While casually observing someone or something Harper can’t help but take mental notes. She doesn’t mean to be rude, but she does have an eye for detail.
Emotions aren’t her forte and she’ll be the first to admit that. She’s been disappointed before by people she used to hold dear, and doesn’t like to dwell on negative vibes. Optimism and pragmatism can work hand in hand or at least she likes to believe so. Although, things don’t always work out that way throughout life; for whatever reason sometimes decisions have to be made that don’t make everyone happy. In those cases she’ll do what she feels she must, as she expects from anyone else. However, if she is one thing she is patient. Taking the time to invest in her will see that act repaid in kind.

Appearance:
She stands above the average height of the typical Japanese citizen, and stands out even more with her long red hair. Her hair reaches down to her thighs, with her bangs being trimmed short in comparison, and parted to one side. Usually the rest of her hair is kept as a long ponytail, or worked into a large bun behind her head if she has handiwork to attend to. Her eyes have an amber color. She has reading glasses with thin black rectangular frames, but prefers to use contacts instead. Her attire can vary pending the work she’s doing. From loose cozy clothes when relaxing, to coveralls when working, or even something trendier when out for fun.

Personal History:
Yokohama is where Harper’s story began. Her hair color and name are testaments to her half-American heritage on her mother’s side of the family. Her father worked as a mechanical engineer, while her mother had been a flight attendant for an overseas airline. The two had met while Harper’s mother was visiting Tokyo due to a bad hurricane cancelling all flights for a couple days. It’s not a point of pride to knowingly be a ‘happy accident,’ but it was the hand Harper was dealt nonetheless. To her mother’s credit the woman did return to Japan to give birth, and moved to Yokohama to start a family.
Harper’s childhood was happy enough, although it became apparent that her mother wanted to return to the United States by the time she was in junior high. It became a point of contention between her parents, but they did their best to hide most of the fighting from their daughter. By the time Harper enrolled into high school her mother was already packing her bags to leave. Everyone knew this day would have come sooner or later, but being a teenager Harper was still hurt by the loss. She still keeps in touch with her mother by phone, but she can’t help but wonder if by doing so she’s just desperately trying to cling onto something that’s already gone.
Fortunately her father had always been supportive and caring. While she had grown up he had shown her how to appreciate the distraction of working with your hands. They had assembled bicycles together and maintained them for the family. She helped him work on small jobs for his work truck. A lot of household appliances were taken apart only to be rebuilt; some projects were more successful than others. Her uncle even had an auto shop that she helped out in during high school to help cover her tuition.
She moved to Shibuya to attend the local university after high school, where she majored in the same degree her father did: mechanical engineering. She’s several years into the program now, but having a hard time making ends meet financially. Due to her class hours she’s been forced into a lot of odd jobs to scrape by, like being a gas station mechanic and attendant, currently. Harper’s powering on through despite the situation. Her dad had a hand in making the life sized moving gundam outside Yokohama’s Gundam Factory, and that’s given her a lot of hope for her own future. And a slight mecha genre binge.
