Night time was always a comforting time, for Ettie and Anne, for a number of reasons. The night was something safe and familiar for the duo - a quiet and peaceful time, where they could hide away from whatever may be under the veil of darkness that would envelop the world with the setting of the sun.
Even when the night brought cold, this simply meant that they could snuggle up against each other - comforted by the scent of family, and their own shared warmth, much like how they would snuggle up against their mother's side when they were still with their birth pack. The presence of another was safe, and comforting; to know that one wasn't alone amidst the dark cold.
But beyond that, night time was something beautiful as well, in watching and admiring the stars and moon above. Time tended to seem like almost a distant memory, in gazing above - the only reminders of such that the night will end and the day will come being the eventual rising of the sun once more.
And every so often, usually when the moon is bright and full and shining down so peacefully, this is when Ettie and Anne would howl to the sky above - just as their birth pack always did - allowing the chorus to hang in the air for all to hear the kinship declared in sharing such a moment. This, and being able to snuggle up to family, were both perhaps Ettie's favorite things about the night.
And all of this was the same even as the pack began to form - the sisters recruiting new partners one by one, to join in their adventures. Now numbering eight, the group was beginning to feel like a proper pack - even if it sometimes had its oddball moments, given the fact that most of their kin - especially the newest additions, in Aurien, Adhara, and Sirius - sometimes didn't quite understand the little quirks and nuances in Ettie's and Anne's behavior and routines.
"So..." Aurien would yawn as he followed after the entourage, rubbing at his eyes with a flipper. "Why are we... Up in the middle of the night...?"
"We wanna howl!" Ettie chirped, her tail wagging eagerly. "But we can't howl in the city - Haku said that'll wake people up - so we'll go howl outside the city!"
"Again?" Adhara questioned; it hadn't been too long since they had howled with Haku, right?
"This happens sometimes." Princess would murmur; surprisingly awake, given the situation.
"It's fun, though!" Duchess giggled, with a wag of her tail. "And everything here is so pretty right now!"
Indeed, the pack seemed to be able to agree on that much - given the gazes that the pups would occasionally cast towards their surroundings, as the pack made their way down the street. They weren't sure what it was about the night that made the city look so different - perhaps it was the contrast of the darkness of the land against the glimmering lights of the crystals and decor about the city? Certainly, everything seemed to glow a bit brighter, a bit more lively, during this time of night...
... Even if they were going out into the bitter cold of the Shining Sea, just these sights alone would be plenty worth it.
But even beyond the city walls, Ys continued to be beautiful - a star among the salty wastes, the lights glimmering off of the distant crystals that dotted the landscape. The city - even from afar - held a promise of beauty in that light; something that they could admire, even as the pack began to share its chorus - a chorus to remind not only those around them, but also eachother, that they were kin now.
For Ettie and Anne, the concepts of a pack and a family were not as far separated from one another as one may believe.
