Kari made her way through the crowds and the hustle and bustle of the Entertainment District. She was wearing her casual outfit, if only because it made more sense... It would be too hot in her other get up, and besides... She's here to investigate, not exorcise yet. She checks her phone to confirm the address. It was some small time manga store trying to make it big in the popular district, and there have been lots of stories cropping up lately of poltergeist activity and people fleeing the store in fear. She giggles to herself. A poltergeist was easy! Well, in theory.
She hums an anime opening to herself as she scoots out from the major thoroughfare and down a side street. It was brightly lit with various colors of neon and it almost hurt to look down, but she just kept walking through until she found it...
Magna Wry Manga. Under the name of the shop is a little side sentence, "Yes, this is a Jojo Reference." It elicits a little giggle out of Kari. She cracks her fingers pretty loud before pulling out a nice leatherbound journal of some kind from her bag and starts flicking through it... "Let's see... poltergeist, poltergeist..." She murmurs to herself...
But, unknown to her, this isn't just a poltergeist. And so many reports of people running scared out of the shop would draw the attention of an organization... a shield for the human world, as it were. Perhaps even legendary. Yes.

"Okay, these reports are just getting outta hand," a tuckered out AppHackmon would say to himself at AEGIS HQ as he looked through the many, MANY reports of people running and screaming out of some manga shop in the Entertainment District. According to the reports, many people were seeing a GHOST of all things in the store before booking it out of there, screaming all the way home. "Johan, I really think we should check this out.""Zero, there are no such things as ghosts, I keep telling you that," Johan said with a sigh. "Whatever those people are seeing in there isn't a ghost, there's just no such thing.""You'd probably say that about Digimon if you didn't have a partner yourself..."
"Zero has a point, Johan," Dokamon added as he entered the room, "if it is not a ghost, it has to be something. Perhaps even a Digimon. It would be worthwhile to observe the scene."
Johan was hesitant about this; he adamantly believed that ghosts and spooky things truly did not exist. He didn't like even giving into the idea that such things were possible, as a firm believer that there was no afterlife. Even playing alone with the idea slightly angered him. But looking through the reports... it was clear that these people were running from something. The young British teen groaned. "Okay, we'll go investigate the scene. But if there really is no ghost then you lot are both paying for dinner tonight."
And so that's why Johan Walker was in the Entertainment District today. With Dokamon and Zero both inside of the digivice's V-Pet, Johan would go investigate the scene. He was decked out in his usual attire, a light grey AEGIS outfit and a black leather trench coat to compliment. When he got there, he could see some woman with green hair was already at the scene. Clearly she was trying to do an investigation of her own. Johan would put on his game face and approach the woman with a mature tone. "Ma'am, I'm Agent Walker, and this establishment is currently closed for an investigation. I politely ask that you please step away from the premises so that I can do my job."
Hopefully this woman would comply, that would make Johan's job a lot easier...

Kari wheels around on her heels to look at Johan and starts laughing. "An investigation? Too late, Agent Walker, it's closed for my investigation into matters! This is a paranormal event, and it's my job to go in!" She then taps her chin and smirks. "...Wait... Okay, two things: One, what agency are you from? And two, I could use a second set of hands for gathering evidence!" Her eyes gleam a bit and she reaches into her bag... After rummaging around for a moment, she then lets out an "aha!" and holds out a little red drawstring pouch, and holds it out to Johan. "...For protection from evil, if you're going to insist on going in with or without me! Course, I'm still going in. This could be my chance to prove my worth!"
She rummages around in her bag again for a second one of those red drawstring pouches that she then clips onto her choker in the meantime while she waits for Johan to provide his identification and take her little charm. Wait, where'd the journal go? She apparently managed to slide it into her bag while rummaging around! She's quick on the draw and the holster, isn't she?

Oh great, this was going to be a problem, wasn't it? Not only was this woman refusing to cooperate with a special agent, but she just so happened to be conducting her own random investigation too, claiming it to be a paranormal event. Johan sighed. "For one, this is not a paranormal incident. That simply cannot be the case. I am here to determine the real cause of it. Two, I have been given permission by the authorities to search this place, and I can call them to remove any unwanted individuals to properly do my job."
What agency was Johan from? Easy question. "Tokyo Special Security," Johan responded, looking into this girl's eyes as he did so with a slight glare. "A second set of hands? That implies I'm going to let you in the shop until my search is finished."
Then the girl would look into her bag and handed Johan a little red pouch, claiming it was for protection from evil. Johan sweatdropped as he raised his left hand, which was covered by a black leather glove. "I don't believe any of that stuff. Trust me, whatever the problem is, it is not thanks to a ghost or any of that nonsense. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a job to do."
With that confrontation hopefully wrapped up, Johan would finally enter the manga shop and begin looking around for any signs that a Digimon could be the culprit here, or if it was probably just some dumb trick to scare customers for whatever reason. It was October, after all. "Where are you, Digimon..." Johan muttered barely loud enough to hear as he searched the place.

Nonsense? Simply not possible?! She huffs a little bit as she gets brushed aside so easily. "Tokyo Special- You're like, eighteen! It takes years to actually get into something like that!" Nevermind the fact he spurns her offering of a protection charm. She stands there outside the shop for a moment before growling to herself.
Meanwhile, in the darkened manga shop, there is a pop as the circuit breakers trip! In fact, one of the lightbulbs above the sales counter to Johan's left actually shatters, and the faintest hint of a giggle can be heard, leading deeper into the store. A couple books actually fall from a shelf about 10 feet from Johan, with no discernible cause. Whatever is in the shop, it seems excited to have someone new to play with.
Kari can no longer hold it and she storms into the front door. "I will not stand idly by as you just usurp my inves-" A book hits her in the face, thrown from clear across the room and zooming right past Johan's head. The girl stands there for a moment, face practically glowing red before she realizes... Johan didn't throw that.
"A-An actual poltergeist! O-Oh! See! I told you! This is my jurisdiction now, Mister 'Agent!' Now, back off and let me do MY job, and get this thing to manifest proper so I can figure out the best way to exorcise it!" She practically leaps into the shop with an ecstatic giggle herself as she holds up her protection charm from her choker.

"Best not to assume how old I am, ma'am," Johan said with a smirk and a wink, implying that he was probably somewhere in his mid twenties when in reality she was only one year off from his actual age. When you deal with Digimon you learn how to lie fairly well, in order to keep the secret in check. He could tell that he caused her to blow a gasket, however...
While Johan was investigating the shop, something happened. One of the lightbulbs above the sales counter shattered all of a sudden. The young teen turned his head to the noise, and as he did he could hear what sounded like a faint giggle going deeper into the store. Johan raised his left arm, which housed his Digivice cradle. "Get ready, I think we have our culprit," Johan whispered to his Digimon as he walked closer towards the source of that giggling-
And just like that a couple books fell from a shelf just in front of Johan, causing him to step back a bit. "Might not be a ghost, but it's definitely acting like one," Johan concluded. Whatever this was, this was DEFINITELY a Digimon at this point.
Suddenly that woman from before stormed into the store, declaring that she wasn't going to stand by while Johan investigated. Johan was going to tell the lady to get back outside before another book was thrown, this time right at her face. Johan winced a bit, realizing that this meant that he was stuck with this woman now. Fan-flipping-tastic.
The woman lit up with excitement, basically pushing Johan to the side and practically skipping into the store to continue her own "investigation." "Oh you sonuva- get back outside! I will call the police to have you escorted away from here, you know!" Johan angrily called out as he followed the green haired woman. This was just supposed to be a simple investigation, why did this civilian have to make it so damn complicated?!

"Oh you sonuva- get back outside! I will call the police to have you escorted away from here, you know!" Johan calls to her, but the threat falls on deaf ears as she eagerly runs off down one of the aisles. She produces her phone from her pocket and pulls up a recording app. "Alright, uh... Magna Wry Manga investigation. Despite the attempted interference of someone claiming to be Tokyo Special Security, of which I highly doubt, I have managed to come in and get hit in the face by a book thrown by the entity. And uh... well, this is my attempt to record any kind of electronic voice phenomenon."
She smirks as she makes her way more cautiously down the aisle. "So uh... Hello? Would you mind maybe telling me your name?" She asks, not entirely sure she's going to get an answer despite the activity so far. Of course... her expectations are blown out of the water.
"Name? Name? Who needs names, when we're gonna play!" The voice, punctuated by a giggle, sends shivers right down Kari's spine. Whether or not those are shivers of fear or something else is uncertain. She bites her lip hard.
"A... an audible... voice...? I..." She drops her phone in shock and pulls out her book, flipping through the pages. "I... I don't know any entities that can speak without the aid of electronics!" She says, eyes wide as she flips through. "I... I mean, I guess yokai can sometimes, but... like... they manifest first! This thing isn't!" She slams the book shut and moves to grab her phone again... but it's not there. She gasps and looks around before seeing the light of her screen floating away from her. "Hey! Get back here with my phone! I need that to identify yooou!"

Of course she's going to try and document this, Johan bitterly thought as he saw the woman pull out her phone and start talking into it. Apparently she was going to try and get this Digimon to talk through the phone like an electronic voice sort of thing. She held out her phone and asked the Digimon in question to tell her its name. The voice that answered did not come through the phone at all, and that clearly startled the girl.
"And what do you mean by 'play', exactly?" Johan asked out loud, not an ounce of fear detectable in his voice. "You do realize that you're scaring customers that come into the store, right? Is that your intent -- to scare humans?"
Naturally the green haired girl was completely flabbergasted by there being ANY voice at all -- and not only that, but that the voice didn't come through the phone like she thought it would. She was frantically flipping through the pages, as she clearly had no clue what was going on. "This isn't a yokai!" Johan would call out before the Digimon, still invisible, grabbed the woman's phone and started floating away.
"Doing this the hard way then, it seems," Johan said as he ran towards the phone and jumped up in an attempt to grab it. He would then land and effortlessly slide down the aisle a bit before looking back. "Taking other people's property is not allowed in this world, you know!" Hopefully undetectable to the woman, Johan would pull out his D-Terminal and attempt to scan around the room for the Digimon. It may be invisible, but if it was there at just the right time then Johan would be able to know what this Digimon was and even two of its attacks!

"Of course it's a yokai! What else would it possibly be?!" She spits back as she chases after her floating phone. Naturally, books get shoved off the shelves to interfere, which seems to be part of the game as she stumbles and trips over books, hitting the ground. "Ow!"
"Play, play. The best game is the scaring game!" The voice calls out... as the phone floats in front of Johan and the D-Terminal manages to nab a scan. On Johan's screen, a picture of Ghostmon pops up, and the two moves "Obscurus Ignatio" and "Jack Raid." Seems this Digimon can obscure an enemy's face with smoke and embers, or just deck them from behind while invisible.
But on the other hand... she's technically not wrong: It is a "paranormal" event.
And now she comes stumbling into view trying to snatch for her phone while the ghostly giggle of the still unseen Ghostmon rings out, her phone being tossed up into the air and out of reach, before being caught and speeding down a different aisle.
"Well, don't just stand there on Twitter! Help me get my phone back!" She snaps at Johan from the floor before she gets back up on her feet and chases after her phone again.

"Among many things, an extremely elaborate prank," Johan said, despite knowing what the actual cause for this disturbance was. He watched as the girl ran to chase her phone, only to be stopped by books falling from the shelves and tripping her up.
If I weren't here, this Digimon would be throwing this girl around the room like a ragdoll, Johan thought as he watched the scene play out.
On the D-Terminal, it turned out this Digimon was a Ghostmon. Well, the girl was half right it seemed, but it still wasn't a true ghost in the sense that she was thinking. This Digimon had moves to reduce other Digimon's accuracy and to turn invisible and strike from behind. This would be tricky to combat against, but certainly not impossible.
The yelling of the girl telling Johan to get off of Twitter was what snapped the young man back to reality. He looked up and saw the phone speeding down a different aisle. "Right, right, sorry!" Johan said as he put the D-Terminal away and ran down the aisle to chase after the phone as well.
"You have no place in this store," Johan said out loud to the Digimon as he chased him down. "Return the girl's phone and stop scaring the store's customers or I will use force to make you stop!" What kind of force would Johan even be talking about here...?

"Why stop? Everyone's having fun!" the voice calls out as the phone dangles around before flipping around and being set on the shelf. At least he knows better than to try and break it. But then the voice appears right behind Johan. "But what kind of force do you mean?~ Do you have a friend too?" The still invisible Ghostmon giggles before suddenly...
Kari appears behind Johan as well and holds up the charm that Johan didn't take. The Ghostmon actually screams in surprise and floats back away from Johan and is suddenly quite visible! Kari grins a bit. "Aha! See, you are vulnerable to this!"
Ghostmon then stops screaming and pats himself. "...Wait, I'm not burning." He then looks at the charm. "...Isn't that for evil spirits? I'm not evil." The Digimon reaches out and pokes the charm. "...Aww, I guess now that I'm exposed, the game is over though."
Kari blinks. "Not burning? You... You literally look like a will-o-wisp meets a jack-o-lantern!"
"...I mean, yeah, but I'm not actually on fire. Usually spirit charms make me feel like I'm a melting candle."
"...Huh." Kari seems to have forgotten about her phone for the moment as she looks at the Digimon. "...So uh... You're... Actually quite... not so scary when you're not doing the voice."
"Well, yeah. The voice is just part of the game!" The Ghostmon grins. He then sighs and looks at Johan. "...So um... Hi, officer. Are you gonna make me go back now? Cause I really don't wanna... I wanna keep playing with the humans, you all are just so much fun." He taps his fingers some, face purple.

"Does this look like we're having fun to you?" Johan asked, both his face looking and his voice sounding very annoyed at this spirit Digimon at the moment. Johan watched as the phone was politely placed on a shelf before the voice was suddenly right next to him, asking if he had a friend as well. "What the-"
Before Johan knew it, that girl appeared again, holding up one of those charm things that Johan declined to take. The invisible ghost became visible very quickly, looking exactly like the image provided from the D-Terminal scan. This Ghostmon was screaming for dear life at the sight of the charm that the girl had, only to stop and realize that he wasn't burning. He poked at the charm, stating that it was only for evil spirits. "You... honestly thought that was going to burn you?"
The girl was definitely confused by this as well, saying that it looked like a jack-o-lantern crossed with a will-o-wisp, whatever that meant. The Ghostmon explained that spirit charms usually made him feel like he was melting, which Johan was unable to believe. He just groaned and facepalmed, not even wanting to get into a discussion about how all that stuff was just nonsense. He was sure it was just all in the Ghostmon's mind.
She did bring up a point though, the Ghostmon was no longer doing that scary voice. He explained that it was just a part of the game, asking the AEGIS agent if he could still keep playing with the humans. This is where Johan would step in. "That's why I'm here. The humans you're 'playing' with aren't playing, they are legitimately terrified. There have been rumors of an evil spirit haunting this store, and it's costing the store its business. I won't force you to leave this world but you can't keep doing what you're doing here." Johan turned around back to face the girl. "You've already seen him so I feel more inclined to explain to you what's going on. But not a word of this can go public. Do I have your word that you'll keep what I am about to say a secret?"
Once the girl would give her answer of "yes," Johan would begin. "You were half right about the poltergeist. This creature right here is what is known as a digital monster, or Digimon for short. This specific one is called a Ghostmon. I'm not of Tokyo Special Security, but I am an agent. Agent Johan Walker, of AEGIS." Johan pulled out his real badge to show the girl. "We're a private organization that ensures that law and order in regards to Digimon is kept on Earth. We stop potential Digimon threats before they raise all kinds of hell, including like what we assumed our Ghostmon friend here was trying to do. Do you understand?"

Kari folds her arms. "...Damn. Can I at least write a censored version for my spirit hunting blog?" She asks before waving her hands. "It's fine, it's fine... but... at least this does prove one thing!" She grins as she leans herself forward to look Johan in the eye. ...despite being shorter. "...At least I was right that monsters are real, and you can't take that from me." She then leans back up straight. "So uh... Ghostmon? Can I have my phone back now?"
"Oh, yeah." The Digimon floats over to pick up the phone and hands it back to Kari, who promptly deletes her original recording. He then looks at Johan and rubs the back of his head. "...Were they? I... I didn't know...Cause like, humans like watching the scary movies and stuff so..." He kinda just tips his little 'hat.' "Sorry, officer. But um... Thank you for at least not making me go back."
Kari taps her chin before narrowing her eyes in thought. "...Hey. I know. Why don't I take him in? He fits my aesthetic as a witch, and if I run into more Digimon while doing my ghost hunting, I can be protected. It's a win-win!" She claps her hands together before looking at Johan with wide eyes. "Can I keep him?~"
The Ghostmon blinks for a moment before "shuffling" his lower tail as if shifting feet around. "...And I can at least then maybe try and make up for actually truly scaring humans rather than just it all being fun and games." He floats on over next to Kari and they both bow deeply!

"What precisely do you mean by 'censored'?" Johan asked. "What I'm going to do is prove to the store owner that it was simply a kid playing pranks on customers in hopes of making friends, and that the child has been rightly scolded for doing such a thing." He said that last part while looking at the Ghostmon with a slight smile, implying that no further punishment would come to the little guy so long as he stops what he's doing.
After he gave the girl's phone back, the Ghostmon admitted that he didn't know he was scaring the customers since customers liked scary movies. "I can see the confusion. We humans like scary movies since it's fun to watch from a safe place, but most of us do not necessarily wish to be in them. Just try not to get yourself caught or get into any more trouble."
But then the girl had an idea, and asked if she could take the Ghostmon in. Johan almost did a double take; that was not something he expected to hear at all. "U-Uh... I would be more comfortable with the idea if you had one of these," Johan said as he rolled down his left sleeve, revealing a bionic arm with a Digivice inside. He took it out of the holder and showed it to the girl. "This is called a Digivice. It's a special device that bonds a human like myself do a Digimon like this. Dokamon, realize!"
A bright light shot out of the Digivice towards the floor. That light would then form and materialize into Dokamon, a blue cyborg-like Digimon with a black shirt and robotic arms and feet. "Greetings. I am Dokamon, Johan Walker's Digimon companion. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance." The way this Digimon would speak almost sounded monotone.
"To be fair," Johan says, looking back at the girl and Ghostmon, "I can see you as partners for sure. But to be truly bonded, you must have a Digivice. Then us at AEGIS would be more than willing to help you ease into the world of Digimon... er..." Now that Johan was thinking about it... he never got this girl's name!

"Shimizu Hikari. You can just call me Kari. I run a supernatural blog where I document my investigations." She giggles quietly and bows deeply to Johan. Kari then looks to Dokamon and leans down to boop him on the nose. "Well, aren't you a cutie who could pass as an AI!" She says with glee before she actually takes the Digivice that Johan offered her, and she looks it over.
Ghostmon, meanwhile, grins and bows himself. "Thank you, officer-sama!" He bows repeatedly, in fact, quite happy to know that he isn't under any form of arrest or anything.
"Not to be too rude or on the nose or anything, but uh... How'd... you lose the arm?" She finally asks, deciding not to beat around the bush as she hands the Digivice back. "And tangent, how do I get one of these... Digivices?"
"Oh, the Digivice thing is usually... um... fate." Ghostmon pipes up, tipping his 'hat'. "But as Johan-sama pointed out, we cooould be partners..." When he drags out the "could," he seems to accidentally make it sound all spooky, like a ghost going 'ooOOoo'. He floats on over and looks at Kari's phone... Seemingly lost in thought.
