Finding Our Way Home (Kohaku)

There were many things that Kohaku the Falcomon was unsure about. He was unsure how long he and Ruri had been walking. He was unsure how many days it's been since they started walking. He was unsure how many times he had to tell his growling stomach to shut up, which caused Ruri to laugh every time it happened so there was at least one thing that made starving a bit more bearable, if a bit embarrassing to the Falcomon's pride. Kohaku and Ruri had just lived through a very terrifying experience in the Binary Archipelago, one that had unfortunately cost them their grandfather's life. Now with no one to turn to, the two avian children decided to try and make it on their own in the Digital World. Unfortunately, it was not turning out the way that they expected it to. After many days of aimless traveling, they were tired, hungry, poor and homeless. This was definitely noticeable to anyone looking at them by the time they entered Rosewood City. "Must... keep... going..." Kohaku weakly said to himself as he carried an unconscious Yokomon in his wings. His face was sunken in, and he was struggling to even stay standing, let alone walking. The poor archer bird's feet were aching greatly, and he wasn't sure how much longer he could keep up. "Must keep going. Must... keep... go..."
And just like that, Kohaku couldn't keep up anymore. He almost immediately lost consciousness as he collapsed in the middle of the streets of Rosewood, dropping his sister in the process. This didn't go unnoticed of course, as there was now a small crowd of Digimon gathering to see what was happening, and a crowd like this would definitely be hard to miss.

"Haru, Miss Natsu... Please don't walk so fast... Our legs aren't as long as yours!" Gabumon pleaded as he held a large stack of boxes in front of him. He had to tilt his head to the side in order to see ahead of him, and he was increasingly wary about his horn jabbing someone's side as a result.
"Ah, sorry!" Haru replied, slowing her pace and taking the Gabumon's side so her partner wouldn't accidentally poke anyone but herself. "I'm traveling so light today, so I guess I got a little ahead of myself!" She looked at the large stack of boxes for a second. "...Want me to carry some of those, or are you able to handle this by yourself?"
"Oh, no thank you! This is something I can handle! Don't worry!" Gabumon answered, a fire in his eyes despite the mundanity of the circumstance.
Haru grinned and gave the faux-dog Digimon a thumbs-up. "That's the spirit!"
However, a girl nearly identical in appearance stepped in front of Haru and shoved a handful of shopping bags in her face. "Here," Natsu stated as Haru took a load off from her sister. "I'm not nearly as prideful. And watching you just walk around while everyone else is carrying things is starting to tick me off."
Haru feigned offense before stating, "But I offered to carry all of the heavy things for you and Gabumon, Natsu! How was I supposed to know that Gaomon would get mad and insist on carrying all of them himself?" Natsu's eye twitched in irritation as Haru's mischievous grin spread across her face. She was about to press the issue, but she noticed a crowd gathering in the background around... a collapsed pair of Digimon. Haru took notice of it quickly after and the twins nodded, maneuvering their way through the crowd, while Gabumon bumbled his way with a barrage of "please excuse me" and "I'm sorry, let me pass, please..."
"Those two don't look so good..." Natsu commented, setting down her shopping bags and getting closer to the pair.
"Yeah, they look tired, starving, and..." She sniffed the air a couple of times before reeling back. "Yeah. Definitely homeless."
Natsu looked around at the crowd. Everyone was just staring at the couple of kids lying in the middle of the street, but no one was actually doing anything? What the hell!? She gently placed her hand on the fallen Falcomon, gingerly trying to wake him as she reached into one of the bags and pulled out a box of glazed donuts. However, before she could get it open, Haru had snatched it out of her hand.
"Umm... let's not use this one..." She proclaimed, slightly nervous for whatever reason. "This one is Gaomon's, and... you know how he gets about his stuff..." Natsu narrowed her eyes at her sister suspiciously, but let it go for the time being. Kind of something more important going on than some devious scheme that her twin sister had planned for Gaomon. Natsu simply pulled out a different snack, a small box of assorted chocolates she had planned on saving for herself later, holding them up to the Falcomon.
"Hey there... Is everything okay?" Natsu asked, kneeling down next to the Falcomon and Yokomon as she tried to wake them with the assorted scents of chocolate, caramel, and coconut. "You two don't have to talk if you don't want to, but how about the both of you try eating something first?"
Meanwhile, trailing far behind the group was a Gaomon, walking at a snail's pace as he held a large, metal yoke over his shoulders, various buckets and baskets hanging over each end. The doggy Digimon had finally managed to catch up to the group now that they came to a stop. Knowing that foul-minded Haru, she had purposefully increased her walking speed just to make him suffer more. But the joke was on her! All of this... extremely heavy objects like the sugar, salt, butter, and other stuff was just... extra training! Still, Gaomon wasn't sure why there were a couple of Digimon passed out in the middle of the roads. Well, they were probably training too hard and exhausted themselves. A rookie mistake!

It was all a blur for the Falcomon. His eyes were barely open but all he could see were blurry shapes and colors. All sounds were muffled and hard to understand. He could feel something touching him, but his brain was just not caring enough for him to even react to it. It was like his entire body and all his senses just went completely numb. But then something happened that brought his ability to feel back. He could smell something sweet all of a sudden. Something that smelt like... chocolate. He slowly opened his yellow eyes more and looked up, it was another human, like that one on the archipelago... only this time she had brown hair and eyes. This wasn't the same human, was it? He looked down at what she was holding... and it looked like food! Kohaku's first instinct was to grab the box and start shoving the chocolate right into his beak. But right as he was about to frantically reach for the box, he remembered he wasn't alone. He turned his head towards Ruri, who was still passed out on the street. "Ruri!" he exclaimed, reaching over and picking up his little sister. The Yokomon's eyes slowly opened much like Kohaku's did. "B... brother...?"
"I'm here, Ruri, I'm here," Kohaku quietly reassured his baby sister. He looked back at the chocolates that the human was holding, as it looked like she was handing them to him. "...thank you," Kohaku said before he slowly accepted the box from the human before showing it to the in-training Digimon he was holding. "Here, Ruri, you eat first. Have as much as you want."
Ruri didn't need to be asked twice as she started munching away at the assorted chocolates. It was merely a few seconds before they were all gone, leaving none for Kohaku in the process. "Oh... I, uh..."
Kohaku sighed as he smiled. "It's alright, you needed it more than I do." Kohaku began to pick himself up but was stopped when his legs of course gave up on him, causing him to fall right back down onto the street, thankfully while still holding onto Ruri. "Tch... can't walk anymore..." He looked up at the girl in front of them, the expression on his face being a mix of "I don't need your help" and "Please for the love of Yggdrasil, help us!"

Big shocker, the pair of kids starving on the street ate up the entire box! Natsu had the feeling that was gonna be the case, but... Well... Natsu should probably lay off the chocolate, anyways! She'd just look at it as a blessing in disguise. Feeding starving children could never be considered a waste of money, after all!
Still, it was commendable that the Falcomon offered the food to her little sister. And as a big sister (only technically, but it still counts!) Haru nodded in respect. She sure as hell couldn't leave them alone after that. Even if the Falcomon was giving them a weak, yet dirty look, Haru was used to messing around with too-prideful Digimon. And hopefully this one wasn't a complete neanderthal like a certain puppy trailing behind the group.
So Haru pulled out her D-Terminal, then put it away while shaking her head, following up by shrugging as if she were inconvenienced. She moved back over to her sister, giving Natsu two quick pats on the shoulder. Perfectly mundane, but for the twins a signal that there was an impromptu play in works. She "It's suuuuch a shame," She muttered aloud for everyone to hear. "We have all this food and were planning on holding a big dinner for our friend, but he has to pull a double-shift at his new job at this bakery and can't make it..."
Natsu sighed in disappointment, seamlessly joining Haru's spontaneous con. "What? You mean Lu-chan can't come over tonight? And I was gonna pull out all the stops tonight, and so much of what we bought isn't gonna last for very much longer because we wanted to save money... who knows when the next time's we'll get the opportunity to do it again?"
Both girls looked distressed for a hot minute while Gabumon looked back and forth between the two of them, confused by their performance. Sadly, Gabumon was far too earnest a person to ever deceive much of anyone. "Umm... I'm not sure what's going on, but if there was a cancellation, can't we just invite these children right here?" He pointed towards his horn towards the Falcomon and his little sister, whose name was apparently Ruri. "I'd feel a lot more comfortable doing that than just leaving them in the street. Plus all our money won't go to waste!"
Haru held her chin like she was in thought, then nodded. "You know, Gabumon, I think that might work!" She stated as if she totally didn't expect her own partner to suggest it. She held up her Digivice and nodded to the faux-beast.
Gabumon nodded back, set down his boxes, and looked around towards the crowd them. "Excuse me, everyone! I'm about to Digivolve now, so can you please make some space? Thank you!" Probably the most courteous thing one could do in the city streets before Digivolving as Haru's Digivice lit up.
"Gabumon... Evolution!" The fur-coated lizard covered himself in an orb of light, and burst out as a larger, proper beast now. "Garurumon!" The newly Digimon stepped over towards the children and knelt down beside them.
"If you two want, you can join us for dinner" Haru looked at the big brother in his large, birb eyes. "We don't have much in the way of space, but we've got warm beds, and most importantly, showers." She pulled out her infinistore, and placed the boxes Gabumon had been carrying in them, along with her and Natsu's bags, closing it back up and putting the box away without even considering Gaomon's burden. "Either way, it sure as heck beats lying out here on the street!"
"And even if you think you'll be fine on your own, it looks like someone else can use a break, you know?" Natsu pointed towards the little girl in the Falcomon's wingy arms. The sisters stood up and held out a hand towards him, and would help him atop the crouched Garurumon, if he so desired.

It was only now that Kohaku realized there was another human girl that looked just like the first human girl. The confusion on his and Ruri's faces was evident as they looked back and forth at the two sisters. Were they... humans of the same type? Like how there were other Falcomons in the world? Kohaku was admittedly not the most well-versed in how humans worked, hence why he was confused that two looked nearly exactly the same as one another. The crowd surrounding them began dispersing, as it seemed like the two kids were being taken care of, though some gave longer looks at them before they left just to be sure. One of the human girls pulled out a D-Terminal before sighing, complaining that their friend couldn't make it to this big dinner they were planning. Kohaku gulped. Big... dinner... what are they doing?
The other human chimed in too, saying she pulled out all the stops and that the food wouldn't last for much longer. The Falcomon could feel his beak watering up, his stomach twisting from emptiness. Even Ruri appeared to be enamored by what the twins were saying. The Gabumon accompanying them, who seemed just as confused as the twins were, suggested that they invite Kohaku and Ruri over for dinner instead. "Er... if that would be okay with all of you," Kohaku spoke up. "I don't tend to admit stuff like this to strangers, but it has been days since we've had a substantial meal."
Thankfully the twins seemed to agree with the Gabumon, even saying that they had warm beds and showers, of which the kids desparately needed. One of them pulled out a device similar to the one that girl used on the archipelago to Digivolve the Gabumon to Garurumon. The two sisters each held a hand towards Kohaku, an offer to help the poor bird up. Kohaku wasn't... used to this level of caring, but considering the situation he and Ruri were in, he had no choice. He grabbed Natsu's hand and allowed her to help him up, as well as help him get up onto Garurumon's back. During the ride, Kohaku would be very quiet while Ruri fell back asleep, looking more at the street than at either twin. It was clear that something had happened to him just recently, though it was clear that the Falcomon was not intending to share anything with them. In fact, he was still trying to figure out why these human girls were even helping Digimon like him and Ruri in the first place... they wouldn't gain anything from it, would they?

Hmm... the two Digimon looked confused as they looked between Haru and Natsu. Haru supposed that they weren't too familiar with humans, or something. Gaomon and Gabumon weren't exactly used to it when they met, either. Welp, if they wanted to ask, then they could ask. Instead, the Falcomon just accepted their invitation, more out of desperation, but hey, if it worked, it worked! "Good call! I'm Haru! And this is my sister, Natsu!"
"And my name is Gabumon! I'm Haru's partner!" Haru's partner announced, then cleared his throat. "Oh, but I'm a Garurumon now. But Haru says that it gets confusing when I'm changing names all the time, so you can still call me Gabumon, if you want!"
"And my partner is Gaomon, back there!" Natsu pointed behind them, towards the blue doggy Digimon who was still struggling to keep up due to his heavy load.
They slowly made their way towards their little house, at a comfortable pace so the Falcomon wouldn't be shaken off in his weakened state. Though neither one of them seemed to be much of talkers. So threw her hands behind her head while she walked as if she were an anime character and asked, "So is it Ruri, and Brother? Or does 'brother' got a name? Once we know each other's names, we stop being strangers, right?"
Whether they answered or not, Haru would just shrug. "Anyways, you two looked kinda down on your luck so... but luck goes both ways, so it's only natural that something good would happen to you, right?" She paused as she feigned a horrified expression. "Then again, you two could be like, serial killers or something. Then that means your good luck would be horrible luck for us!"
Natsu glared at her sister while Garurumon let out a gasp. "Serial killers!? I don't want that!" He cried out, still somehow sounding childish despite his deeper, more gruff voice.
Haru laughed at her partner's response, patting the big wolf Digimon on his side while she gave the Falcomon and Yokomon a sly grin. "Well, either way, it'll be exciting to get to know you guys better!"
"B-but... it's not true, right? You're not bad people... are you?" Garurumon asked his passengers. It would probably be best if the pair talked about themselves a bit. Otherwise, Garurumon might be so scared that he could have nightmares tonight, and only a truly bad person would allow that to happen to such a sweet Digimon! If they were perceptive at all, they could also just lie; Garurumon seemed like the type to believe anything you told him.

Kohaku simply nodded when the twins revealed their names as well as Gabumon's and Gaomon's names, which happened to be... Gabumon and Gaomon. Kohaku personally found that to be a bit peculiar, having your species name be your name, but he didn't actively react to it either way. During the ride, all Kohaku could think about was the event... how his grandfather bought and ate that weird fruit, how he got sick... how he got to see that horrible monstrosity with his own eyes... Thankfully Kohaku was snapped out of his thoughts when one of the human girls started talking to him. He couldn't tell if it was Haru or Natsu, and frankly he didn't care at that moment. She was asking for the Falcomon's name, it seemed. He just looked at her with a blank stare momentarily before looking away again. "...Kohaku."
The human girl continued talking, making Kohaku realize that this was the one that just wouldn't shut up. It was clear that the bird archer didn't feel like talking, but that didn't seem to matter to the human. She was talking about how Kohaku and Ruri were down on their luck, and it was only a matter of time before something good happened or something like that. Then she brought up an idea that they were serial killers, to which the Garurumon pathetically cried out. Kohaku just rolled his eyes and tried to ignore them all, especially the blabby human. Except ignoring them was no longer possible, as the Garurumon asked if they were bad people. And judging what little he knew of the Digimon at this point, if Kohaku continued saying nothing then he would most likely spend the entire time thinking that the big scary bird was going to murder the lizard wolf in his sleep. Kohaku sighed and spoke up. "My sister and I were raised by our grandfather to be as good as we can possibly be." It hurt Kohaku a bit to bring up his grandfather, after the wound was still so fresh...

"Oh! So then you aren't bad people, then!" The big wolf Digimon several times larger than the pair of starving children he was carrying let out a sigh of relief. "That's very good to hear!"Sheesh! These kids sure weren't talkers! They must have had it pretty rough. Then again, they were found in the middle of the street, starved and exhausted. They must have had a rough time of it. "Kohaku and Ruri, huh...? Well, those names sound like real gems!" "Haru?" Natsu piped up. "Yeah, sis?" "No." "No?""No." She confirmed. Haru let loose a playful laugh, and after a few seconds, Garurumon piped up. "Oh... I just got the joke!" He said, chuckling not because of the joke itself, but the fact that he was able to understand. Sometimes Haru would say stuff that he flat-out didn't comprehend at times, so it was good whenever he could understand his own partner! After that... more silence. What a shocker. But for Haru, a literal child who hadn't had anything traumatic happen to her in her entire life, and one typically oblivious to other people's needs, continued to talk. After all, it's not like her talking would change whatever happened to the two Digimon children, right? And if it was such a bad thing, then a healthy conversation could be a nice distraction! "Anyways, it's good to have you over! Feel free to shower, eat, and if the two of you don't mind sharing a bed, you can spend the night if you want!" The girl pretended to do calculations for a second, despite already knowing the answer. "We've only got three beds, so Natsu and I can share, Gabumon can have his own bed, and Gaomon can just sleep on the roof or something!"Natsu answered by lightly wrapping her fist on her sister's head. "Or, I can sleep with Gaomon and you can sleep with Gabumon," She stated. Haru gave a shrug, chuckling to herself. At this point they were almost home, what looked like a small log cabin atop a hill on the edge of the city. It didn't look as extravagant or a whimsical as the other buildings around it, and its very mediocrity made it stand out that much more. "Welp! We're almost there!" Haru turned to Kohaku gestured towards the cabin ahead of them. She spun around, calling over towards the Gaomon trailing behind them, still carrying his yoke with the heavy load. "Yo, Rocky! How much longer are you gonna be lagging behind us? All we did was ask you to carry a few groceries!" The exhausted Gaomon paused for a moment, then his amber eyes narrowed and began to glow alight with a fiery passion. Gritting his teeth, he let loose a low-pitched growl as he took a single step forward that blew away the dust around him. Then he took another. And then another. He howled in his pain and passion, charging forward into a run. He sped past the group, ascending the steps up the hill as if they were nothing (mainly because they were), and screamed an unintelligible howl of triumph as he made it to the top step, the afternoon sun casting a majestic silhouette as the dog Digimon cast aside his heavy load and threw his arms into the air in victory. "That was amazing, brother! You're the greatest!" Garurumon called out in glee and excitement. Meanwhile, Natsu and Haru just stared blankly at the scene. "He totally just dropped our stuff..." Natsu commented, annoyed.

Kohaku couldn't help but roll his eyes. Seriously, the Garurumon was a Champion level Digimon, yet he was afraid of himself and Ruri being bad people when he could clearly annihilate the two of them if he chose to? The Falcomon couldn't fathom it. Haru made a pun about his and Ruri's names, saying they "sounded like real gems." Of course, Kohaku knew the reason for this. His name meant amber, and Ruri's meant lapis lazuli. Even the Garurumon got the joke. Kohaku didn't really find it all that funny. "Our father did name us after his favorite things, after all," Kohaku said in a resentful tone. He hoped to never see that prick ever again... Despite wanting to be left alone in silence, the human girl just kept talking and talking, offering to let them stay for the night at least before arguing over who would be sleeping with who in one of the three available beds. Kohaku raised an eyebrow. "There are four of you and only three beds?" he asked in confusion. Back in Whitewater, Kohaku and Ruri shared a room but they each had their own beds, so it wasn't like they weren't used to sleeping alongside others or anything of the sort. Still... these Tamer girls left Kohaku very perplexed. As they got closer, Haru decided to tease the Gaomon behind them even more, causing the blue boxer dog Digimon to suddenly gain a boost of motivation and actually running past the group, beating them to their house. The Falcomon had to admit, he was impressed by the dedication the Gaomon had for surpassing his limits and running so fast while carrying all that stuff the whole way- and he just threw everything onto the ground. Wonderful. Kohaku's expression matched Haru's and Natsu's to a tee. After all that, he still manages to drop all the supplies so haphazardly like that.
...while Kohaku didn't want to admit it, his legs were still fairly numb. With the sleeping Ruri in his wings, he would need help getting off Garurumon and getting into the house.

Haru couldn't really fathom the tone Kohaku used when he brought up his father, as she had never really had to deal with hating a family member before. Both of their parents were pretty awesome, even though they were like, super old and stuff. And they loved their daughters very much. After all, what parent wouldn't dote on such adorable and intelligent daughters? Though... it still didn't stop the pair from getting grounded when they were younger. Still, even the ever-emotionally-oblivious Haru could tell that she would probably be stepping onto an emotional landmine if she pushed the issue of parents. Even though she still wanted to know more. Maybe... after they all got some food and rest and whatever they could chat about more of that personal stuff. Instead, Haru figured she could pretend to be a boring person and do that small-talk stuff!
And Kohaku just brought up the perfect topic! "Hey, beds can get expensive, dude!" She countered, laughing a bit before continuing. "Not all Digimon use them, and they come in all kinds of sizes, to squirrel to dinosaur! It took us forever just to find the three that we have!"
"Before they met us, Gaomon and Gabumon just slept on the floor," Natsu explained. "But Haru and I decided that we'd improve things around the house if we were going to spend time in the Digital World."
"My back problems went away, too!" Garurumon helpfully added. "And my brother and I don't ever have to pull splinters out of each other's pelts, either!"
Then the stuff with Gaomon happened, and once the others caught up with the eager Digimon Natsu glared down at the blue canine. "Gaomon! If you're carrying our stuff, try to set it down gently next time! If you ruined any of our food, that's even less portions for you, too!"
Gaomon, still panting from exhaustion, nodded and grunted in acknowledgement. He gave Haru a dirty look, then looked back over towards his partner, Natsu. "I understand! Next time I won't do that! And I'll carry twice, no, three times the load to make up for it!" He went back to glare at Haru, who was helping Kohaku get down off of Garurumon's back. And almost as if he had just seen them for the very first time, he asked, "Wait, who are these two?"

"Even so, beds can't be that hard to find," Kohaku countered. "Ruri and I went bed shopping with our grandfather once when my bed completely broke. Took no time at all to find one in my size. You were probably just looking for beds at bad places."
According to Natsu, their two Digimon slept on the floor before they met Haru and Natsu, with Garurumon commenting on his previous back problems and how he and Gaomon had to spend time in the morning plucking splinters out of each other's pelts. Kohaku had to admit that that did not sound truly ideal. "I'll sleep anywhere if I really have to. But Ruri can't. She needs a proper bed. My wings aren't going to do the trick forever here."
Once the group arrived at the house, Natsu properly scolded Gaomon for dropping all their stuff on the porch... though she threatened to give Gaomon less food as punishment, which Kohaku didn't fully agree with but decided it wasn't his place to comment. Thankfully Haru was willing to help him and Ruri off of Garurumon. "Thank you very much," Kohaku politely said in the process. He would hold onto Ruri with one wing while holding onto Haru with the other, since his legs were still a bit messed up. That was when Gaomon finally noticed Kohaku and Ruri's presence, asking who they were. "We're just wanderers that your partners are helping out," Kohaku said in response. "Did you seriously not notice us this whole time?"

"Well, either you got lucky, or we're just unlucky," Haru shrugged, dismissive of the great bed debate. Wasn't really a hill she cared to make her stand on. "Either way, it's kinda silly to talk about it now, don't you think?"
Haru patted Kohaku on the back when he spoke about his sister's sleeping arrangements. "Yeah... you're getting a comfy bed to sleep on too, buddy. We're not gonna throw some kid out on the floor when we found him lying on the street a little bit ago. Gaomon can just... sleep on the roof or something. He's done it before."
"That's only because it was raining!" Gaomon shot back as if it made sense. "I was training my body to not get sick!"
"You don't need to worry about that," Haru reasoned. "You're not the type to catch colds." Natsu stifled a laugh while Garurumon tilted his head to the side in confusion. Gaomon did the same, not understanding the expression.
But he dismissed it when Kohaku introduced themselves without introducing themselves. "I was in the middle of training my body, not my senses," He answered the bird's comment on why he hadn't noticed them until now, as if that explained everything.
"Anyways, this is Kohaku and Ruri, they'll be staying with us for a little bit!" Natsu filled in the blanks, spinning back to face the kids. "And this is my partner, Gaomon. He can be a little... umm..." She didn't finish, but she figured she'd just let them use their imaginations. "But he's a good person!"
When all was said and done, Haru got the kids off of her partner's back and the Garurumon turned back into the not-wolf that everyone knows and loves. And while Natsu, Gaomon, and Gabumon picked up the rest of the things that a certain idiot dog had so nonchalantly dropped a moment ago, to go inside a small wooden cabin.
The door creaked open and revealed a relatively simplistic setup with a small kitchen and square, low table on top of a blanket. There weren't many luxury items or the like, or even furniture, save for three futons of varying sizes folded neatly in the corner. There weren't any bookcases or posters, or much of anything personal. If anything, it looked like the house wasn't used much for anything than sleeping in.
"There's a toilet and tub in the outhouse out back," Haru made sure to note as she set Kohaku down onto the blanket under the table, probably the most comfortable place to set someone down, while the other three set their things on the kitchen counter. After doing so, Haru pulled out her infinistore cube and tossed it over to Natsu, who caught it, opened it up, and unpacked the contents as well. It looked like Natsu was getting ready to set things up, foodwise, but what did Kohaku think of this rather quaint establishment?

"Assuming the bed is large enough, it should be no problem for Ruri and me to sleep in the same one," Kohaku said to Haru. "And if it isn't, I don't mind sleeping on the floor." Speaking of that... Kohaku had concerns for the mental state of Gaomon. He was sleeping on the roof because it was raining? Wasn't that the opposite of what you were supposed to do? Kohaku merely gave the blue doggo a weird look before just shrugging it off. Kohaku didn't buy Gaomon's excuse for why he didn't notice them. "That doesn't make sense, you should still see and hear what was happening around you." While Natsu was introducing Kohaku and Ruri, she admitted that Gaomon was a bit... "Dim-witted?" Kohaku asked, filling in the blank himself. Natsu insisted he was good though, so Kohaku would just shrug off the Gaomon's quirks for the moment. After Garurumon devolved back into Gabumon, Haru helped Kohaku up to the wooden cabin, all while the others were picking the supplies up that Gaomon had moronically dropped before. You'd think a Gaomon would be smarter than that... Kohaku thought to himself as he glanced at the dropped supplies. The inside of the cabin was nothing to write home about, really. There was a kitchen with a low table with a blanket underneath, and a few futons rolled up in the corner, but other than that the house was practically barren. Haru would help the Falcomon down onto the blanket, mentioning there was a bathroom hut out back with a toilet and bathtub. Kohaku looked up and smiled at the human. "Thank you very much for your hospitality. I promise we won't be a burden; a rest here for the night and we're heading back to Whitewater."
It was then that Ruri started to open her eyes. She let out a big yawn before looking around her surroundings. "Is... is this where we're staying?"
"For the night, yeah," Kohaku said. "These humans have offered to let us stay here for the night. They're making dinner for us as we speak. Did you sleep well?"
Ruri shook her head. "Too much moving."
"Ah... sorry about that." It would be a bit before Kohaku's legs would feel good enough to get up and walk around again... though it was now that he was realizing how badly he and Ruri really needed that bath.

If Gaomon noticed that Kohaku was giving him a weird look, he didn't seem to care. But when questioned, he frowned before saying, "If you're not putting your all into your training, then you might as well not be training!" He stated, his eyes clear and resolute before his face brightened up with inspiration. "But... perhaps I should focus on training my senses as well... No... I've already mastered that, so perhaps I should focus on training my focus so that I can focus without focusing... is such a thing even possible...?" He clenched his gloved fist and stared at it intently, focusing so hard he shut out the entire world around him. Clearly not a good start to his training.
"I was gonna say, 'intense', but..." Natsu began with an exasperated sigh.
"He's an idiot." Haru confirmed, more than willing to say what Natsu was too kind to say about her partner.
"But... He's got his good qualities, too!" Gabumon insisted. "It's true that my brother's not very smart, but he's very nice if you get to know him, and he's always willing to help people with difficult things! And he's strong, and super reliable when a task isn't too complicated!"
Natsu nodded in agreement, while Haru just let out a grunt and shrugged. After a while, it looked like the two Digimon kids were ready to walk again, so Haru led them out back, towards the outhouse.
...Which happened to be about as big as Gaomon and Gabumon's cabin. She opened the door, and inside was massive hot tub that wouldn't look out of place at a mansion. Quite a stark comparison from the rather quaint cabin. Haru gave the siblings a grin as she explained, "Natsu didn't like that there wasn't a proper place to use the toilet, so we went down near Whitewater to get some money! We ended up at this casino, and I hit it pretty big at the blackjack tables once I was able to start count... uh... putting in some advantageous bets!" She gave a mischievous chuckle before smiling politely. "It'll probably take a while until dinner's ready, so take your time and relax as long as you want!"
Afterwards, Haru would leave the pair to talk amongst themselves for a bit as they would start to get washed up. But then a few minutes later, where was a knock on the door as Haru barged in. "I'm coming in, and I'm all suited up for the occasion!" She put her hands on her hips as she stood before them clad in a bathing suit. "Natsu caught me swiping food while it was still cooking, so she sent me in to make sure you guys are getting cleaned up nice and proper!" She held out a soft, squishy sponge towards the Digimon. "I imagine Kohaku would get Ruri cleaned up nicely, but I figured that he could use a nice, good, feather-scrubbin'!"

"Usually I would agree with you," Kohaku said, "but even during my own training when I am giving it my all, I still can see and hear everything around me."
Gaomon would then start pondering to himself about focusing his focus or whatever, and he proceeded to stare at his own clenched glove and completely tune out the world around him. Kohaku couldn't help but sweatdrop at this dumb dog. "Brother, is something wrong with him?" Ruri asked in an innocent tone, definitely not knowing how wrong it was to just ask something like that out loud. "Possibly."
While Haru just flat-out called the blue boxer dog an idiot, Gabumon attempted to recall some good things about his brother, such as being very nice and always willing to help with difficult things. "So, in other words, he'll perform any task given to him without giving it any thought himself?" Kohaku asked Gabumon. "To me that just screams 'take advantage of me!'" It was clear that on the topic of Gaomon, Kohaku was siding more with Haru than with Natsu or Gabumon. After taking a few moments to rest inside the cabin, Haru would help Kohaku and Ruri to the outhouse in back... which was more akin to a bathroom you'd see inside a huge mansion. Kohaku and Ruri couldn't believe their eyes with what they were seeing. "Wh- is the outhouse some sorta portal or somethin'?" Kohaku asked in sheer surprise. Haru explained that she got a LOT of money from a casino where she was clearly about to say she was counting cards. Kohaku squinted at her afterwards, but then let the kids know that dinner would take a while before leaving them to their own devices. "Finally... some peace and quiet. Here, let's get that bath started." Setting Ruri on the ground, Kohaku would turn the knobs on the giant hot tub to let the water run, and to his surprise the water came out pre-mixed with bubble bath stuff. That was perfect, since that meant he didn't have to find it himself. "Heh, never seen that before with a bathtub." Once the water was nice and warm, he would pick up Ruri and get into the tub with her. "Hehehehe, bubbles!" Ruri cheered as she almost instinctively started playing around with the bubbles in the tub. Kohaku had to admit, this was pretty damn relaxing. He almost wanted to just drift off into a nap but first things first. He grabbed onto his little sister and tried to start scrubbing her down, but she almost immediately began to resist. "No! That tickles! Stop, brother, that tickles!"
"Sorry Ruri, but Gramps' not here so I gotta be the one to clean you up," Kohaku said with a laugh as he tried fighting against his sister in the battle of cleanliness, causing the two of them to splash all around the huge bathtub, getting all wet and getting water on the floors and the walls, and generally just having fun with each other. Eventually Kohaku did manage to get himself and Ruri all scrubbed up and clean, albeit now they're both soaking wet, so they decided to just sit there and enjoy the warm relaxing water... At least they tried to until Haru came barging in, startling both Kohaku and Ruri. The twin explained that she was asked to check on the two bird kids, and she decided that it would be a good idea to start scrubbing down Kohaku with the sponge she was holding. Kohaku felt his stomach turn at the thought of that. "Y-You figured what now?! Get out of here, I don't need a scrubbing down from you!"
