"They're ready to go... execute the command sequence," a lilac-haired woman would say as she stood in front of her experiment.
The silver haired man sitting in his wheelchair at the computers nodded as he typed in a series of command code onto the system. Unbeknownst to anyone in the world at this moment, a secret and highly illegal operation was going on in this underground research facility located close by to Tokyo, Japan. In this room were currently two scientists -- a husband and wife duo -- alonside eight others who were inside of tube-like containers pods each filled with some sort of liquid, wearing nothing but their underwear. None of whom appear to be struggling, signifying that they were all there of their own free will. Just what was going on in here...?
"Sakura, the pods are all ready," the man would tell his wife as she approached him. "The required Digimon DNA is inside and ready to go. In just a few short moments, our life's work will soon be complete." He looked away from the computers and looked up at Sakura with a heartfelt smile. "Project Bio-Hybrid... We're finally able to make a change with this, I can feel it."
"Well, let's see if this first batch works out before we start celebrating, Tomo," Sakura would say, reciprocating that love with a kiss to Tomo's head. "But there's practically no room for error, even after triple checking, so I think at least a little bit of celebration is warranted. Are we ready?"
"Whenever you are," Tomo responded, his finger on the execute key.
"Alright..." Sakura picked up the microphone on the desk, turning it on before speaking to those in the pods.
"Remember, when we activate the pods, all of you will begin to feel strange at first, but that is normal. It is merely the Digimon data fusing with your DNA. Whatever happens, you must fight the urge to resist. Remember why you are here."
Sakura then turned to Tomo and nodded, giving him the go-ahead.
"History starts today," Tomo says with confidence as he presses the execute button. Before long, all eight pods had the liquid inside them begin to boil. The boiling became more and more aggressive before the liquid simply turned into steam, a steam so thick that the eight that were inside could no longer be seen. Tomo and Sakura watched the pods with anticipation, the latter of which silently clenching her hands.
"Please work... please work... please work..."
After a certain amount of time had passed, the pods all began to have their steam evaporate, leaving behind much improved versions of the humans that had been inside prior. All eight pod doors opened up at once, freeing all those inside from their confine. Sakura smiled, letting out a sigh of relief after seeing that all test subjects had survived. "Thank goodness..."
"So, how do you all feel right now?" Tomo asked through the microphone.
Tadashi, the cocky-looking Japanese man with medium-lengthed brown hair responded first, a cruel smile plastered on his face. "Like I just won the World Cup."
"So, you truly managed to inject us with digital data?" Harry, the dark-skinned male said next as he observed his own arms.
"That's right," Sakura said through the microphone, "each of you has been injected with the digital signature of a specific Digital Monster. With our special devices, you should be able to turn into them at will."
"Why don't we try it out now?" The ginger-haired young man Calum had asked next.
"Because we need to wait for the right time to use them," The curly-haired dark-skinned teenager Thea responded, "we're not just using these powers for fun, you know."
"Could've fooled me," said the blonde-haired Trevor, his arms crossed.
"What matters now," Yua, the red-haired beautiful maiden said, "is that we're not who we used to be anymore. We're way better than the trash piles we used to be."
"Yua's right," Tomo said, rolling his wheelchair closer to the eight, "you're all improved, no longer simply just humans. You can change the world... prove that a world of metahumans isn't such a ridiculous one after all!"
"A world of metahumans..." The man with short black hair, Jun-woo, said. He turned to his true love, Soo-An. "What do you think of that, my love?"
The woman with neck-length light brown hair smiled at her boyfriend. "If that's the price we pay for getting back at Kyong, I say that's a pretty good deal."
"Ah yes, right... your conditions," Sakura said. "Well, we know what it feels like to be wronged by this world. From people you've never met, to your very closest friends... you all remember the deal we made."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, we get it," Tadashi said, "we do tasks for you and then you help us get our justice, we all know the deal. What do you want us to do first?"
"Put some clothes on, then we'll talk," Sakura responded with a smirk.
"Oh yeah..." Tadashi admitted before he and the others left back to their respective locker rooms.
All eight of the volunteers looked thrilled about what had just happened to them, but Thea looked unsure about the whole thing she signed up for. She paused for a moment to look back at Tomo and Sakura who were celebrating their success with a hug and a kiss. She didn't feel right trusting them, but she felt as if she had no other choice. She closed her eyes and sighed.
"If this is what it takes to find my mom, then bring it on."
