Lantis didn’t mind getting damp upon hugging Speed. He’d be a lot more wet after all this was over, so he might as well get used to the feeling. Speed asked how good he was at keeping balance. Lantis pondered his reply, then spoke with confidence. “Why, my darling, I’m a Leomon. Us feline digimon have exceptional senses of balance, and I’m glad to tell you that I’m no exception.”
Lantis had never failed to land on his feet from a high place, and even in unusual places, holding himself upright was down to instinct for him. However, water was a new element into it all, but, with his boyfriend and professional assistance nearby, Lantis felt confident he could do this.
The Leomon followed Speed’s instructions to prepare himself, taking heed of his instructions. “Okay, got it. Keep close to the board while speeding up, then slowly stand up… I think I got it.” Lantis answered.
Unfortunately for the first three attempts it was easier said than done. Lantis had never done water sports like this before, and he had cleanly wiped out three times, either losing his grip or slipping off the board. But, at the very least, he was learning each time. And he didn’t mind at all being left to drift in the sea for a bit until he was retrieved, but, he was determined to get it right at least once.
And that chance happened on his fourth attempt. The seas were relatively smooth as he adjusted his balance and got ready, then felt ready for full speed. At last, he felt balanced on his board and began to get the hang of it. He skipped among the waves and landed without crashing, ready to take the next wave. “Haha! Speed! I got it now!” he declared happily, and the Leomon delightedly rode the waves, taking on board all he had learnes so far. He giggled and cheered at the sheer thrill of it, so much that he somewhat lost track of time and seemed confused when they seemed to be slowing down.
“Lunch is ready, Mr. Lantis.” he was told by the speedboat crew. Lantis blinked and looked up, realizing that the sun was heading west rather than overhead, so indeed it was getting to that time.
“Ah, right! Let’s head back to the yacht then.” Lantis said, re-boarding the speedboat for their yacht. As they approached, the scent of delicious food wafted over them. “Mmm, can’t wait for it, darling.” he said to Speed, patting his back, hoping their valentine’s was going well so far.
When they returned to the yacht, they were presented with the appetizers of their veritable feast. Light and ready to eat, cold seasoned meats along with salads. Lantis appreciated that, especially when he could smell better to come with the main course from the galley.
“Well, let’s dig in then shall we?” Lantis asked. For now he didn’t bother to change out of his board shorts, merely ensuring he put a towel on his chair what with his damp fur and clothes.

"Well, alright, Mr. 'Exceptional-Sense-Of-Balance,' let's see what skills you got on a wake-board," Speed responded to his boyfriend with a slight chuckle. As much as the Speedramon loved his feline hunk of a boyfriend... in the back of his mind, he was sort of hoping Lantis would goof up at first just so Speed would be able to playfully taunt him. Extreme sports were tougher than one would think!
Speed did end up getting his wish in the end. Despite following Speed's instructions as best as he could, Lantis had wiped out a total of three times, either slipping off the board or losing his grip on the rope. Speed leaned forward over the edge of the boat, his arms resting on the edge and the biggest shit-eating expression on his face that the drake Digimon could possibly make. "How's that exceptional sense of balance holding up for you, Lanty? Harder than it looks, hm?"
Eventually though, something with wake-boarding clicked with the Leomon. Speed watched as Lantis followed his instructions perfectly, slowing standing up as the boat caught speed. Lantis rode the water a bit before he began to appear more comfortable with riding, skipping the waves without wiping out. When Lantis cheered that he got it, Speed couldn't help but cheer for his boyfriend as well. "Woo-hoo! You did it, Lanty! Ride the wave, hahahahaha!" Much like Lantis, Speed too would get so wrapped up in the sheer thrill that he too lost track of time, growing confused as to why they were suddenly slowing down.
That question would be answered almost immediately as speedboat crew announced that lunch was ready. "Alright, lunchtime!" Speed cheered, his tail wagging and drool coming from down his mouth. "Let's get goin', Lanty!"
And so the speedboat took off back towards the yacht, with Speed deciding to cuddle with Lantis as they rode back. As they approached, the smell of the food was growing stronger and stronger. Speed's stomach let out a loud growl in response, a sound that Lantis would be very used to after two years of dating the speedster. Speed put a hand on his belly as he chuckled. "It seems that my lunch alarm is a bit delayed there," Speed said to Lantis. "I can't wait for the meal, either!"
Speed's tail wagged even more when they were presented with the appetizers of the feast. If the mere appetizers looked this good, then he was even more eager to see what the main course would be. For now though, the appetizers were perfect. "Yeah, let's start munchin'!" Speed responded to Lantis before he shook himself dry at high speeds. He sat down next to the Leomon and started chowing down on the appetizers that were the closest to him at that moment.

As Lantis recovered from his first wipe-out, he felt an initial tinge of being upset that Speed’s reaction was to mock him for it. Of course he didn’t expect to succeed on the first attempt, but that his boyfriend chose to sneer at him rather than encourage him to do better kind of stung. That wasn’t right for romantic partners to do, not in his books. He had never seen his acquaintances Owen and Hikaru act like that to each other. Still though, this was just early days, he had somewhat brought it upon himself to brag that he’d probably be better than average about it all, and it was on his own head that it hadn’t worked out that way.
As a result, Lantis would quietly disregard his first few blunders and instead he would focus on riding the waves, learning how to steer through them. He didn’t attempt any tricks, just enjoyed the moment. And he felt he quickly got over his embarrassment from the thrill of learning how to properly wakeboard. By the end of it, Lantis felt so totally thrilled that he gleefully snuggled Speed back as they returned to their yacht.
“Ahh, let me dry off my fur first, I don’t want to soak everything inside…” Lantis chuckled. When he re-boarded the yacht, once all was clear, he shook himself vigorously, removing the excess water, then accepted a towel to dry his fur before he joined Speed in the dining room. Indeed the appetizers looked wonderful. He chuckled to see Speed so readily snack upon them.
“Ahh, you might want to slow down there, pal~” Lantis said. “These are appetizers, you’re not meant to eat them all. The main course is coming up soon, all the cooked and seasoned meats. You don’t want to make yourself too full for that, hm?”
Still though, Lantis nibbled on some of the appetizers himself, particularly enjoying the shrimps and cheese. He looked forward to see what the main course would be, meanwhile.
Once they had reached a point where they were awaiting the next course, Lantis regarded his boyfriend with a fond eye, wondering what to talk about next.
"So, Speed, pardon my curiosity, but, I've been wanting to ask this for a while." he began. "Namely... what is it you like most about the human world? I mean... you seem to really like it there. I mean... I rather like it too, but I've got a human partner that lives there too, so I'm interested to hear from your perspective."
Lantis hoped he wasn't being too conversationally clumsy here, but he did rather want to know what it was that drew Speed and his brother to the human world and what made them decide to stay there.

Of course Speed didn't think he was being mean to Lantis when he said that. He was just trying to be playful like he normally was, and didn't think twice about how it would've sounded to his boyfriend. Still though, it was just a little tease in his mind before he actively tried to help Lantis afterwards. "I'm just teasing, of course, this actually is pretty hard to do. Here, let me give you some tips that helped me out..." Speed would then give Lantis some tips on how to do better on the wake board after each of the Leomon's attempts until it looked like that Lantis had finally gotten it down.
Any feelings of embarrassment or resentment were quickly washed away as the two of them snuggled on the way back to the yacht. After Lantis had dried himself off, both by shaking the water off and with a towel, he joined Speed in the dining room and warned Speed to slow down... which was ironic, considering what the drake's name was. Lantis explained that they were just appetizers, and that Speed would be too full if he ate them all. Speed just laughed when he heard this, however.
"I love that you're lookin' out for me, Lanty, but consider what you're saying: when have I ever been full?" Speed did have a point there. His hyper fast metabolism made it so that any food he ate would be converted into energy faster than usual, which in turn meant that he hypothetically could eat all the appetizers and still have more than enough room for the grand meal. Speed grabbed a plate of appetizers and handed it to Lantis. "Come on, have some of these! They're really tasty!"
So then Speed and Lantis would enjoy this round of appetizers before they reached a point where they were waiting for the next course. Speed was nuzzling his head on Lantis's shoulder as he sat next to the Leomon, completely loving just being able to spend time with him like this. "Your fur is so soft..." Speed muttered, a great big smile on his face. Speed then perked his head up when Lantis asked his question... why was Speed drawn to the human world so much?
"I dunno... I guess it's because there were more options for me and my brother," Speed explained. "Before we joined AEGIS, living for us was just some endless cycle of traveling and fighting and foraging for food... it all got so repetitive. It probably would've been better if we lived in a town or city, but... well, we just didn't think doing that was a good idea at the time."
"Then we started hearing things about the world of the humans. About its own history and their own society and all that, not to mention the tasty, tasty food they have other there. Then we heard about AEGIS, a group of humans and Digimon working together to protect their world, and Psych and I thought that was so cool. We figured that if humans and Digimon could co-exist together there, then two weird Digimon like us could thrive there as well, using our weirdness to actually be able to help others. We met Johan and asked if we could join AEGIS, and the rest was history. And to think, joining AEGIS would lead me to meeting you, Lanty... and I honestly couldn't be happier."

Lantis really appreciated Speed’s clarification of his comments from earlier. It wasn’t anything personal from the Speedramon, but to the Leomon personally. When he was a member of the Terminus City Guard, there were so many situations where delinquents seemed to gather just to sneer at him and his colleagues, mocking them in their efforts to try and keep the peace. The days before Lantis had become Sophie’s partner were for the most part, not very pleasant. In fact it was one of the best days of his life when he realized that he had an ‘out’ of that dreadful career.
And now here he was, with a wonderful boyfriend to teach him a whole new array of thrills and skills. And Lantis loved it very much.
As they attended their lunch, Speed reminded him of his metabolism and Lantis chuckled while nodding. “Yes, I suppose that’s correct.” he admitted, thinking it was now worth it to ask the caterers to prepare three times the normal amount that would be expected for two champion level digimon. Lantis gladly accepted the appetizers offered to him, and savoured the taste. Not too sweet, not too sour, but deliciously savoury, food precociously prepared to make one want more. Lantis was now very glad to have approved of this valentine’s outing.
They relaxed for a little while after the appetizers were done, appreciating a little time together. Lantis was glad that Speed liked that his fur was soft. The Leomon was worried that his long, pale fluffy fur would make him less intimidating as a champion level, considering he had evolved from a Spadamon. But to hear that Speed liked it, well, all that worry melted away.
He listened to Speed’s answer to his question. So, it seemed that Speed felt that there were more options for him and his brother in the human world than the digital world. Considering what Lantis knew of their past, being rejected for who they were, well he understood completely. There was simply much more opportunity for them in the human world, and with Lantis’s partner Sophie willing to accept help from those that were willing to stick to the AEGIS mode of operation, that had worked out so far nicely.
“I’m glad to hear that, darling.” Lantis answered. “In fact, I’ve been thinking a lot about you, and other digimon in your position. You might not feel exactly right in the digital world, but your skills are most welcome in the human world. In fact… well, I’ll tell you this because I trust my darling boyfriend~” he rubbed his cheek against Speed’s in a somewhat feline way. “We’re bringing others around to the opinion that digimon can have their place in the human world. Of course, it’s all in the air at the moment, so I can’t provide any promises I can’t keep, but, we’re aiming to shift the status quo, so that maybe the human world can be more comfortable for digimon like you and your brother.”
After some more time had passed, the cabin was filled with the scent of food even more delicious smelling than the appetizers. Lantis grinned, knowing Speed would be delighted with what was coming. “Call it a hunch, but I think the main course is almost ready.” he said. And before long, the yacht caterers would proceed from the kitchen with trolleys of fully prepared food of every type. Fish, poultry, savouries, beef, pork, as well as complementing vegetables and fruit. They were free to eat whatever they wanted from here. Knowing that he couldn’t possibly outspeed Speed, Lantis was happy to let his boyfriend take the first samples of what he wanted before he filled his own plate.

"I'm glad no one at AEGIS makes me feel bad about it," Speed said, referring to his metabolism as Lantis enjoyed the appetizers as well. "I still try to limit how much I eat somewhat, though. With just how many Digimon AEGIS has to feed, the last thing the budget needs is someone like me to eat up enough to feed five Agumon and still ask for seconds."
Then Speed gave his answer for Lantis's question on why the twins ended up in the human world to begin with. The answer he gave seemed to satisfy Lantis, saying he had been thinking a lot about him. "What, am I just that distracting?" Speed jokingly asked, teasing Lantis a bit. "AEGIS was the first group that celebrated our powers instead of thinking something was wrong with us... thank you for that. Really." He got what Lantis really meant though: Digimon who wanted to make a new start in the human world like Speed and Psych, but were unable to fully do that for many, many reasons.
As Lantis rubbed his cheek against Speed's, which Speed was absolutely loving, he also mentioned a plan that AEGIS had that Speed was very interested in: an option for Digimon to have their own place in the human world, trying to shift the status quo so that Digimon like Speed and Psych would feel more comfortable in that world. "Like, some kinda Digimon sanctuary in Shibuya? Lanty, that's a great idea!" Speed cheered as he gave his boyfriend a big hug. "It kinda sucks that the humans can't really know we exist without freaking them all out. If this idea will help get them used to us, then I'm all for it! And I totally wanna help! Psych will too, I bet! Tell me more about what you and Sophie are planning... after our date, of course."
Speaking of, the smell coming from the kitchen made itself known, prompting Lantis to say that he believes the main course is ready. And like he expected, Speed's tail was wagging like crazy as the thought of what could be delivered to him flooded his mind. "What did you order, Lanty? Fish? Beef? Burgers?"
And as it turned out, Lantis requested... well, practically everything! Yacht staff workers came out with trolleys of every kind of food you could think of, enough to feed at least six or seven champion level Digimon in total. Speed's jaw was practically on the floor as he observed the massive spread, and his breathing even seemed to get a bit faster as well. "I-I-I've never seen this much food in my life! And we can have it all?! Oh Lanty, I love you so much!"
Wasting no time at all, Speed grabbed a plate and zipped all around, grabbing a sample of everything he wanted to try, until he eventually came back with what was essentially a food mountain, the plate itself not being big enough to hold everything Speed wanted. And it was clear that this would only be the first of many plates of food he would get. For the meantime though, Speed dug into his meal at a much slower pace than usual, considering he actually wanted to savor the food this time. This would allow Lantis a chance to get some food for himself, as well as an opportunity to witness the pure, adorable joy on Speed's face as he enjoyed his Valentine's day meal.
