APPEARANCE
"Cute" would be how Haruka describes herself, without any hint of embarrassment in her voice. She strives to dress in the best way she likes, which generally includes easy to move clothes (even sporty ones), jacket, and gloves! She prefers to style her hair in side ponytail because "high ponytail is too classic, low ponytail is too plain and braid is too much of a hassle". Whenever she's out she prefers to wear semiboots kind of shoes. She find them more comfortable and makes her steps firmer. Oh, and she never forgot to wear her diffuser necklace. Said necklace contains perfume that she changes daily. It's faint, but have quite the therauputic effect on her... Though if she's in mood for silly, she might put strange scent on it like cola or durian.
Haruka's general appearance is also eccentric in its own way. While nothing could be said about her skin or her eyes, she did dyed her sideburns blond in a gradient, which would be a no-no in school. She however used her grades and extracurricular performances to shut up any opposing sentiments.
PERSONALITY
"Lemme say this, but even in my standard, I *AM* eccentric!" Haruka would say that proudly. She speaks like a gyaru, with tons of slangs and more. She would come to school dressed like one too. Ain't she going way too fast for someone that age? Like, isn't being a Gyaru supposed to be starting at high school, not middle school, and especially not after you graduated elementary school? To be honest, Haruka doesn't really care. She just want to be herself, even if it means breaking the rules.
Being very true to herself, Haruka describes herself as "an anarchist" in sense that "she doesn't conform to tedious rules". Spontaneously making melodies for music, singing weird songs that might sounds absolutely horrible and funny at the same time, or even her greatest accomplishment (according to her) of all time in creating paints with scents... Haruka tackled all of them without any care in the world! After all, she is doing somethng she likes, why would she cares?
Thing is, her interpersonal skill could be said as nonexistent, having homeschooled pretty much half of her academic life. She could ignore strange looks from her peers because she simply doesn't quite understand subtle emotions like someone not being used to seeing her brand of eccentricness. Especially when they heard about how she's actually mixing perfumes and scents into pigments. Like... why? Even if she explained at length how it brings her sparks of joy, no one really could understand it. Then calling herself eccentric so proudly? No one can understand that either.
However, Haruka is not a fool. She understands that she's a nail that stuck up way too much. No, actually, if she's a nail then she's clearly bent so much that it's impossible to straighten her. And that's very frustrating to the society. However, to her, exactly because in society like Japan where individuality often seen as detrimental that she should show people that it's totally okay to be the individual that you want to be, even if it's eccentric like hell like she is. But at times, too many rejection does feels hurt.
HISTORY
What if you were told that you probably won't live until teenagehood? Honestly, that was happened to her. It might be an exaggeration, and to be fair she was four when that verdict tossed at her... and it crushed her parents tremendously. Her autoimmune system was weak. As result, she often had to go to the hospital, from various diseases that might be normal for other kids to walk away from unscathed, but in her case could cause complications. The bitter taste of medicine makes her hates anything bitter to this day.
The biggest life changing moment is however, at one day where she nearly died from a long fever. She remembered how every inches of her body hurts and her consciousness fading slowly, her mother's sobbing and her father talking with many people, practically begging for money. Anything to keep her alive longer, even for a day. It was... somethng that she would never hoped on even her worst enemy. All she could think that time was... I don't want to die. It was such a strong wish that she remembered repeating it like a mantra, and her mother years later confirmed that she even sleeptalked like that. By miracle perhaps, after four days of long fever, her condition improved. This further boosted by the fact that finally they got medicines and supplements that her body responded well to. Her parents, deciding that they wanted to fight their hardest for their daughter, made ultimate sacrifice to sell their house and downsized. Now after years of therapy and rehabilitation, she's pretty much no different than a normal girl (albeit still pretty weak). The family also was gifted a house from her now passed away grandfather who back then would not let them to stay in crummy apartment right after she got completely discharged.
...But Haruka was never the same since. She's no longer that girl on hospital bed, no.
Haruka hates dullness in life. Dull reminds her of the hospital room, white and lifeless. Bitter reminds her of medicine taste, it feels bad and makes her sleepy. Her very first action after recovering was to splatter paints into a canvas, creating mix of colors that she titled "Heart Palette". She described it as "closer to art an artistic ape would done", but her heart was fully satisfied looking at that nonsensical mix and smears of colors that just doesn't adhere to color theory. She had it in her room, framed. After all, it was the deepest part of her heart that just wanted an outlet, a primal sense of yearning to express herself!
She picked many artistic interests and skills. Music, singing, painting, sketching... but what sparked her most recent venture into aroma and colors is the fact that her mother, a musician, has a color-sound synesthesia. She doesn't, and have always wondered what it have to have one... when she first saw a project made by someone with synesthesia on how sound relate to color that they can see, a spark appeared in her mind... She wanted to make art that could be enjoyed with sight, hearing, and smelling. She wanted a gallery full of it. Many called her too ambitious or a fool, but... She just laughed and say "well, I guess I am a fool then! Because this is what I want to do!"
