Armand was hoping for another normal volunteer work at the animal shelter today. Between dealing with Shade's antics and the workload back at the university, feeding the animals along with helping them find their homes might ease his day for a bit. But then, he noticed something different once he arrived there. A news van was parked outside and a small crowd was formed as he saw a woman holding a mic in front of the shelter with the man holding a camera to her and the exterior of the one-story building.
"Yes, I'm here at the Shibuya Animal Shelter located near Yoyogi Park where we get to meet some dogs and cats who are waiting for their new owners. Right now, they are offering a special play day for anyone visiting the shelter to play with them for free."
The biology professor was surprised at the sudden rise of the shelter's reception. He did recall he suggested the play day idea and they approved by scheduling it today since it was the weekend. But he never expected it to be a rousing success to the point that the local news picked it up and visited the shelter for it. Well, he might as well get inside and help out before it might get rowdy...
"Oh, excuse me!" Armand stopped as the female reporter and her cameraman suddenly approached him. "We're with Fude TV. Would you mind answering a few questions or two? Don't worry, this will be quick."
Okay, this was very unexpected on his end. He might blame that he was a bit late and was recently arrived to help out at the shelter, but he never thought he would find himself to be on the news very soon. While he wasn't much of an introvert, he found himself a bit nervous just staring at the camera that was pointing right at him.
Oh, are you starting to wimp out, Armand? I thought you were good with people, so being on TV isn't so bad~
Armand mentally groaned to himself. This was not a good time to deal with his teasing right now.
"Shade, would you please be quiet for once? I don't want to let you embarrass me on TV," he thought out to his Spirit. He was still rusty when it came to communicating Shade through his thoughts alone, but he rather practices it than yell out his frustrations in public.
Tell the guy who is ready to make a fool out of himself. Come on, entertain the crowd!
"Not if you keep teasing me at this time. Now keep quiet and just leave me be for a while!" Armand wanted to go into the shelter and go private for a while to deal with Shade, but right now, he couldn't back out even if he wanted to as he turned to the reporter with a smile. This was for the shelter's sake and he couldn't just ignore it completely. "Why, yes. I don't mind. In fact, I'm one of the volunteers at this animal shelter."
He would have credited himself for the play day idea, but he wasn't the type to show off.
"Ah, okay. So what are expecting for the play day you and the volunteers organized?" The reporter asked.
Armand smiled. He knew they would ask that question and it would be a perfect way to appeal to the audience watching this. "We're hoping to have the animals there to have ample time to play with any visitors of the shelter. The aim is to have them interact with them and create a small bond that would decide what kind of animal they will adopt. Whether they are searching for a dog or cat or merely passing by, we ensure that there is an animal companion for everyone!"
He wasn't the type to make some theatrics, but he mentally admit that his delivery was a bit overdone. He could tell from Shade's snickers in his mind that he thought it was a bit funny, which wasn't his intention to be one. At least it would be enough to give that answer some justice.
"I see. Regarding your shelter, does it offer any other services that you recommend?" The reporter asked again.
"We do offer consolation to some who lived in apartment spaces or with an allergy to some animals. While we want to give every animal a place to call home, we want to make sure any future owners have no issues when adopting one. Although we do recommend going to the right professional just in case. Also, we offer classes to young children and adults on how to take care of animals if they so choose to do so along with an in-house veterinarian, pet surrenders, a sick bay, cruelty investigators, and a lost and found policy on lost and stray animals for five days."
"Well, are the animals here on sale?"
Armand sheepishly laughed at the next question. "Um... No. We're an animal shelter, not a pet store. The pet adoptions here are free and most of the animals here are taken care of by many volunteers including me. So no matter what, we always do everything to give everyone a home. However, this is a non-profit shelter, so we do sometimes take donations online or in the shelter if you wish to support our efforts."
That was a bit awkward for Armand to answer, but at least he was able to bounce right back after that. Though he wasn't happy when he heard Shade's laughter from his brief shock at that question.
Wow, I'm surprised this human managed to keep her job after that.
"Not. The. Time. Shade!" Armand mentally growled. He swore that he was watching his interview just to see him embarrass himself.
"Ah, okay. We'll have the location, phone numbers, official website, and social media sites up on the screen right now if you wish to support the shelter if you are in the area," the reporter declared on camera. "Just one more question, sir."
Armand quickly snapped out of his thoughts and turned back to the report. "Oui?"
"Along with your volunteer work, are you some kind of a foreign model or an idol?"
His eyes widened at another unexpected question. He was able to answer every question related to the animal shelter, but he never expected one that was related to his looks. Right now, he could hear Shade bursting into laughter in his head.
"No, I'm actually a biology professor at Tokai University originally from Paris, France," Armand quickly answered. "I wish I can answer more, but I'm afraid I need to be going now. I have to help out the other volunteers inside the shelter. But thank you for the interview."
With that, he swiftly left the reporter as he headed inside the shelter while avoiding raising his reddened face. As he did, he overheard the reporter say to the camera, "And that's all we have for today on Shibuya's Top Trends! Back to you..."
You know, you should have stayed there for more screen time. Heck, I might try to give the audience what they want.
Armand groaned as he entered the shelter. "For a Spirit helping me, you can be a handful sometimes."
That's what I do~
In any case, there was no way he was done with his teasing today. For now, it's playday time, and hopefully for once, no cameras for today or a while.
