It had been some time since he and Beta had started sleeping in their own room again, Alpha stared up at the walls around him, on his back in his bed looking up at the ceiling. It was very, very late, later then he would ever think about staying up but yet here he was, still awake and unable to pass out, glancing over at his side he saw his twin, she was passed out, her night light shining next to their bed piercing the darkened room. She was holding onto his arm for comfort. Usually, she was always the one who had trouble sleeping but, lately Alpha had been the one with the most trouble...
His mind kept going back to where he found his twin and mom, in that old dusty room in what he always felt was his home, but while he was asleep in a bed they were there. On the ground, cold and alone. While he talked to the digimon who took them away from this place, they were still there for so long. 5 years never felt like a lot to Alpha, it seemed to fly by almost but now thinking about that it all felt like an eternity. Every day in the same room, same darkened halls. Originally Alpha had been annoyed before that Beta always grabbed onto him but now, he knew, the reason she did that was because she was terrified, she'd wake up and be back there.
And Alpha lied about being there, lied about being raised by that monster, lied about what he knew. They suffered and even when he figured it out, found out what they had done to his twin and mother he still lied, just a coward afraid to tell anyone the truth.
Looking back up at the ceiling Alpha just felt disgusted with himself, the more he thought about it the more and more he felt awful. He tried talking to Beta about it, but she always just assured him that it was alright, that she was just happy he was here with her. That she was just happy to be anywhere else, so happy just to be able to see the sky above. Something Alpha had fully taken for granted, simple things in life she just loved, because anywhere was better than in that room.
Both her and Ciel supported him, defended him when he needed them too and always stuck up for him, it wasn't something he was used to at all but something he found himself cherishing more and more. But the more he cherished it the worse he felt about lying about being in the same place they were but not doing anything about it until the damage had already been done, living his life with the same digimon that wanted to kill his dad, who wanted to kill them, who pretended to be his father...
Alpha slowly got up, the feeling was only getting worse and worse, it was pretty clear he wasn't going to be able to sleep. looking over at his sister who still had an iron clasp on his arm he grabbed one of the large Dorumon stuffed toys they had and threw it on her chest, this caused the Hackmon to instantly grab and hug the toy in her sleep freeing Alpha from her grasp.
Getting off the bed Alpha quickly threw his cloak back on and made his way through the house, Dylas was sleeping on the couch like usual, He had his own room, but he seemed to like sleeping there much more, maybe it was just in case Myotismon tried pulling into the house at night, hard to say. Alpha tried to wake him up to talk to him about what was eating the Hackmon inside, but Dylas didn't seem like he was waking up anytime soon. That left only one other option for Alpha to try.
Heading over to the basement door Alpha pushed his way in, the sounds of machinery could easily be heard once the soundproof door was open, mom was awake still. When she slept was a mystery to Alpha, but she did always seem like she was full of energy, maybe it had something to do with getting older.
Regardless Alpha made his way into the room, taking in the sight of all the weapons and devices that were hung up around the wall and from chains on the ceiling, making his way towards the back of the room where Ciel was working, it seemed to be a buncha small blue panels that were all the same shape, they looked like they could fit together if he tried.
Sensing him Ciel stopped her work for a moment, turning in her chair and taking off her goggles. "Alpha? What're you doing up. It's nearly two in the morning." the sistermon quickly put all her tools away, moving them off to one side of her bench as she spun the chair around fully to look at her kid.
"Hey mom, yeah, I know I just couldn't really fall asleep. I, haven't really been able to for the past week or so..." For some reason he felt embarrassed to mention that, like he was guilty of something.
"Being with the boss mess up your sleep schedule? I know they have a pretty weird sleep routine, least they did while I was living there." It had been some time but, Alpha had to admit she was probably somewhat right about that, they did have a pretty weird sleep schedule of, whenever.
"No, just. Why, Why aren't you and Beta mad at me?" That seemed to stun Ciel for a moment, she just looked at Alpha for a while before raising her eyebrow.
"Why would I be mad at you Alpha?" She seemed genuinely curious about his reasoning, leaning forward in her chair with her head tilted.
"Because I lied, I lied about saving you two I lied about knowing Myotismon. I lied about everything, about myself about who I was, I even lied about what my own voice sounded like! I knew who he was, about where I was just. Always in that same place, I was one floor above where you two were and I did nothing, for five years I just lived my life while you and Beta, All that t-time, everything you two had been through and you're still there, still... Still." By now Alpha's voice became. quiet, tears slowly rolling down his face as he failed to meet Ciel's eyes.
"Still so nice, defending me, telling me how much you care, how you're just happy I'm here. But I don't do enough to deserve that, I didn't do enough. Dad, dad would've done enough he would've saved you and Beta, he would've fought he wouldn't, wouldn't of li-" Cut off before he could finish Ciel was already on the ground, embracing the young digimon and pulling him tightly into a hug.
Ciel didn't say anything, she just held him there for a while. The Hackmon buried his head into her shoulders and, for probably the first time in his life, cried his heart out. Whatever mask Alpha usually wore was gone, replaced by that small six year old kid who had been through too much.
It took a while for Alpha to calm down fully, eventually his sobs slowly subsided but he still held his head in Ciel's arms. "Neither of you deserve this fate, what happened to us wasn't your fault. It was a horrible, horrible situation. But Alpha I promise you, you do enough." Letting him go slightly Ciel looked into his red eyes, smiling before placing her head on his forehead, eyes closed with a smile. "My son is always enough for me, just that you and Beta are here, that you're safe at home. That you're both striving to be the best you can be, that's enough. It'll always be enough."
Ciel let go, backing away from the Hackmon, still smiling as she got up. "Come on, follow me." Standing up fully Ciel turned the lights in her workshop off as she started up the stairs, followed quickly by Alpha.
Making their way back up to the top floor Alpha thought they were heading back to his and Beta's room but instead Ciel made her way towards her own room, a bit hesitant Alpha made his way inside as Ciel tossed her gear on a stand nearby, sitting on the bed that was way larger than her before smacking the spot next to her, prompting Alpha to jump up. "Here, anytime you're feeling upset, sad or distraught at night just come in here, I don't know for sure if it'll help or not but maybe sleeping in my room will help remind you that I'm here for you, no matter what Alpha."
Alpha didn't seem too sure either but after all that crying and how late it was, he was too tired to argue at this point, hopping up and trying to find a place a bit far from Ciel, but the Sistermon instead grabbed him and drew him in close while throwing the blankets on the two of them.
Alpha, felt mixed, those feelings were still lingering, guilt and self-doubt that he deserved being here with them, that he hadn't done enough to be worthy of being here but, feeling his mom so close to him, a small smile on her face with her eyes closed. Slowly Alpha felt calmer and calmer as those prior feelings started to subside. Till eventually his eyes closed and he fell asleep.
Ciel held her grasp on the Hackmon, pulling him in tight before saying. "No matter what Alpha, you're my son. I'm here, I'll protect you this time. No matter what..." And with that Ciel felt herself start to slip away and, she fell asleep as well.
