Moxie and Vem wandered through the darkness for who knows how long. Retracing his steps proved to be harder than what he expected, but nevertheless he felt like he was close to their target. He thought of it as a target now, not a home. Just a place without meaning to him, a dark cave without any particular emotional attachment tied to it. It almost scared Moxie with how fast he had shifted mindsets since leaving the cave, it was like night and day. He's seen the stars, met a new comrade, and is now returning to where it all started. It hasn't even been a full day since his departure, yet it felt like he was returning after years away.
As he had thought, Moxie and Vem both reached the mouth of the large cave. His frantics footprints from his escape still littered the ground around it. Moxie was eerily quiet the whole time, mentally preparing himself to see those sights one more time. He'd relived that terrible moment for days after it had happened, so hopefully now that he has a goal he'd be able to bear being there just one last time. Meanwhile, Vem looked into the cave, squinting his eyes as he tried to let them adjust to the darkness of the cavern. "Uh, you sure this is where you came from? I can't see squat in there. How deep does it go?" Moxie would grab out his staff, lighting a Petit flame on its tip to act as a torch. "This is it." Moxie would say flatly, as he took one step into the cavern. "Watch your step, there are traps laid all around this place." He then continued further into the darkness, leaving Vem a bit flabbergasted at Moxie's current disposition. Just today he was some little guy cowering from him by a fire, but now he was willingly walking into a cave riddled with booby traps? He couldn't dwell on it too long, as Moxie was steadfast and already beginning to disappear within the cave. Vem picked up his pace to catch up to Moxie, now equipped with his club in hand to face whatever dangers lurked in the darkness of this cave.
The two of them came up upon the spiked pitfall trap that Moxie had sprung during his escape, which now obstructed a large part of the floor. Moxie, being able to fly and all, wouldn't have a problem flying over, but that left the problem of Vem being very much limited by gravity. "Welp, let's head ba-." Vem would start, before Moxie moved towards him. Moxie sighed, grabbing a confused Vem's arm, and using his wings to flap against gravity, lowering Vemdown into the pit, where he actually had enough space to comfortably walk between the spikes there. Vem wasn't the brightest, but even he could see that Moxie had realized that course of action was the right one way too fast. "God was definitely right about this guy." Vem thought to himself, as the two of them continued further into the depths.
