The Arctic expanse stretched before Alexandria and the documentary crew, a pristine canvas painted in icy hues. Annika, Alexandria's adoptive daughter, clutched her mother's hands with eager anticipation, her eyes wide with wonder at the frozen landscape. A the family and Crew was on the SS.Gemni a boat that recently arrived at their destination.
The air was crisp, carrying the scent of salty sea and distant adventure. The crew prepared their equipment as Alexandria, the seasoned marine biologist, gathered her notes as she looked excited. The mission was clear: to capture the elusive seals in their natural habitat. Annika tugged her mother's jacket. "Mama, we're going to see seals, Da?" Annika's amber eyes stares at her mother in hope, as Alexandria nods. "We will be seeing them dear, Just be patient."
As the crew sailed through frigid waters, the icy panorama opened up, revealing a breathtaking world of glaciers and snow-capped peaks. The Captain came on deck, as he faces her. "We're arriving near one of the Seal areas, So we're docking in a few minutes." He answered. Alexandria smiled, as she was greatful. "Hmm, and then we can get near the seal territory to capture some more footage on this documentary for the Artic." Nico a Cameraman and close friend of Alexandria said,
The older woman could only nod, as she glanced at Annika who taken the camera that hung around her neck and took photographs. "So, Your daughter seems enjoying herself, Doc." He said. Alexandria had to agree with him, at the beginning Annika didn't even want to go, But Alex didn't have a babysitter at the time, and Annika had to come as in which changed the little 8 year old's mind. "Yeah, She is, It's good for a child to have an experiance like this and get to see the wonders of the world!" Alexandria proclaimed. Nico only chuckled. "Typical, Alex aways going off with the most educational but fun way." He said. Alex snorted at her friend's tone before looking at the clear wintery sky.
The cold breeze blew gently as the weather was at its gentle for today, No one didn't like a blizzard and bad weather when you're at the artic. Amidst the Arctic silence, the crew's vessel approached a vast expanse of ice. Alexandria's eyes sparkled with excitement, mirroring the anticipation that rippled through the crew. They've arrived at their destination.
The vast expanse of the white snow greeted the group as they near the the sheets of snow, where the ship somewhat got close enough where a couple of the crew members of the ship and the Documentary crew along with Alexandria, was going to board another but much smaller ship. She looked at her daughter. "Stay in the cabin until I get back, I don't want you getting hurt while I'm gone, Ms. Jessica will be in there to keep an eye on you." Alex said.
Annika looked unhappy wanting to join in, But with a reluctant sigh she nods knowing her mother only wanted for her to be safe. "Alright, But please take plenty of pictures of the seals. I want to see the photos."
Alexandria gave a small geniune smile and the timid girl gave in return. "You know I will, Kiddo, I always snap plenty, I mean plenty of photos of anything creature, land or sea for the beauty of it." She said ruffling her own daughter's hair with her hand. "Hey! Dr Juniper, hurry up we're leaving in a minute!" One of the documentary members called out. Alexandria sighed. "I'll be back squirt, Just don't worry but if Ms.Jessica baking them chocolate mint brownies, Save me some." She said whispering the rest. Annika giggled and nods, as she does a goofy salute
"Okay!"
And without another moment to waste, the eight year old shuffled to the cabin and shuts the door as Alex stood for a moment longer before following towards the smaller boat and boarding it. t was a smooth journey with a few bumps here and there. Once arriving on the icy sheet of land the crew leaves the tiny vessel with the recordng equipment. So the group make their walk as it took some time on foot as it was easier after some time, Alexandria stops the crew. "We're here."
They had made to a glacial section of where they was, where if you looked at it, There was LITERALLY Seals, So many seals! As the Biologist turns around and face them. "Okay! Welcome to one of the common areas of finding a Ringed Seal! Let's get shots and view of the Ringed Seal for the rest of the documentary!"
All of them cheered as after their year and a half expedition doing a documentary series on the whole artic was coming to a close, It was fun and tiring But they done it! But as soon as they was about to get the camera's set up and fan out on capturing shots of the various ringed seals and the blonde preparing to assist like usual, Something bad happened.
And then, a heart-stopping crack.
A crew member, namely Josie a fellow marine biologist standing too close to the edge, lost their footing as the ice beneath them gave way. A collective gasp echoed through the crew, frozen in a moment of horror. With Alex cursing under her breath, as she looks at the captain. "Bloody hell, I gotta rescue, Josie capt!" She said not wanting a casualty and losing a close friend on this expeditiion. The captain for a moment wanted to decline this but with a reluctant sigh he nods. "Go, But you better not drown." He answered finally.
So, in a swift and selfless move, Alexandria shed her winter coat and other items that associated with the winter as they would be too heavy if she ever swam with them. The crew watched in awe and concern as the marine biologist dove into the frigid waters, leaving ripples of determination in her wake, as she soon spotted her friend who was struggling to go up but was sinking due to her heavy winter gear as Alex remove's her friend's gear as she then would pull up her friend up to the surface, as she gasped releasing the held breath as she starts swimming her friend to shore.
The crew, shivering in the bitter cold, with some rushing towards the rescuer and her saved compatriot. as immediately and logically blankets was immediately wrapped around both. "Thank god, Josie's alive, Take them back to the boat Immediately These two needed to be warmed up ASAP!" The Captain barked. Some of the members on the expedition team heeded to the orders and immediately takes them back on the smaller boat and was rushed to the Gemni. Where they was inside of the warm cabin and treated hot cocoa so they could get warmed up.
When Annika first saw her mother she was worried. "Mama! What happened!?" She asked worried, The small Russian child was worried for Alex who only chuckled. "'Mama only had to save someone, I'm okay, Just a little cold." She answered reassuring her daughter. Honestly, Alex was a extremely cold and was basically shivering, Sad thing Alex couldn't help with finishing up the documentary with the Ringed Seals, But hey atleast Annika got photos on the seals and one of the crew managed to catch some recording of an Aurora Borealis after some prolonged stay.
Guess, today's assignment went all too well, without incident. So what will be in store for the next assignment?
