Daten frowned at the sight of his Tamer lying in bed. While he was known as a Digimon born from computer viruses, he did not know when it came to viruses affecting humans. Namely, the one that made Ryu cough and sneezed as well as making his voice sound a bit coarse and his head hot like a frying pan. Right now, they were alone in the apartment while Ryu's father was out getting groceries and medicine. But the Kuramon couldn't help but watch his friend groaning while blowing his nose on the handkerchief. Then, a ping echoed from his phone on the bedside table where most of the fruits, medicine, and water bottles were placed by his father before he left.
"Ryu... Are you sure you can't leave your room and play video games?" Daten's voice boomed from Ryu's phone by text-to-speech function on his messaging app. "I miss playing with you outside..."
Ryu coughed away from Daten and said, "I wish I could do the latter. But I'm too sick to do anything right now. I thought a sick day meant no school for the whole day or two. Instead, it's like living in the Folder Desert for the whole week." He coughed again. "Sorry, Daten. But I have to follow Dad's orders or I'm stuck in bed for eternity. Hope you understand."
The Kuramon beeped sadly. "No fair! I want the viruses he said gone! Can I eat them to make you feel better?"
"Easier said than done. I'm a human, not a Digimon. It will take days for me to recover with the medicine Dad is trying to buy." Ryu coughed and cleared his throat. "If anything, I had to go to doctor's orders to get back on my feet again. Don't worry, though. It's only the flu. It's not like it's gonna kill me."
"Don't say it like that. You said anyone would die saying those words like in those movies and anime!"
Ryu cleared his throat again. "Right, sorry. I doubt I can play our usual video games on my bed. But I might play something interesting I found on my phone."
Daten's eye widened in glimmer. "Really? I want to play! I want to play!"
"Easy there!" Ryu slowly got up from his bed and grabbed his phone from the table. "It's not a shooter or RPG game like the ones we played. Since I don't have the energy to focus and create strategies like usual, I might lose a lot of matches. Which means it might not be a good way to pass the time for both of us."
He tapped on a tree app icon on his phone, revealing a title screen with a forest in the background and horses running in the foreground. Upon seeing this, Daten tilted his head. "Uh... "Nightsky Fields"... Is it a game where we fight in the forest?" The voice this time came from his computer booted up by itself nearby.
"No. It's a farming game." Ryu smiled as he tapped the START button.
"Farming? That sounds boring."
"That's true when I played it at first. But it's surprisingly addicting and helps me relax," Ryu said with a smile. "It reminds me of my Mom's gardening and it helps me get back with those memories with her even if she and Dad are separated. Plus, you can chat with NPCs to befriend them and explore some mines for some monster fighting. It's not like our usual games, but it's different enough for me to try."
"Can I try? Can I try?" Daten happily hopped in excitement. "It doesn't sound so boring when you say it."
The young Tamer chuckled and handed him his phone. "Alright. But no cheating using your powers and you have to control it the same way as you do: The old-fashioned way."
"Alright! Kuramon warp-Digivolved to...!" Daten's body began to glow as he transformed into a familiar head with large hands and tentacles below him. "Keramon!"
The Digivolved Keramon accepted the phone and started playing the game. Ryu slowly got up and pointed at the phone's screen. "There are some vegetables growing outside the house. Just press the harvest button to pick them up. You should try putting about 5-7 tomatoes and 30 blueberries in that wooden box nearby. You get so much money if you put them there."
"Money?! Wow! We might get so much from those tomatoes and blueberries!" Daten said in excitement.
"Cool down, Daten. The catch is that you only get the money by in-game tomorrow and you can only move the day forward by sleeping," Ryu explained calmly before coughing briefly. "But we're not going to do that. We still have lots to do such as mine exploring and chatting with a few friends I made before. Just be patient, okay?"
"Oh, alright. If you say so!"
Ryu smiled. He was a bit nervous when he wanted to mention this game to his partner Digimon. He knew it would be too embarrassing for him to let everyone know that a shooter gamer like him liked farming games. Yet, he was surprised that his Keramon happily played it and he didn't bother using his abilities in frustration or boredom as he guided him through the game.
He cleared his throat from his coughing once more and turned his attention back to his Digimon and the game. "As for the cows in the ranch, use the milker from the inventory to get milk from them. Don't worry, you can get them automatically, so don't think too much of it.
He then spent the next few minutes guiding his Digmon through it. He didn't know how long they were playing. Yet it didn't take too long for him to realize how he had forgotten his cold as he enjoyed teaching Daten the basics of the game. Heck, he found some items in the game without using his powers at all! In the end, it didn't matter if he couldn't go outside and explore the Digital World or play arcade. He was happy that his Keramon was with him while he was sick. And he couldn't ask for anything to pass the time.
