Pain. Pleasure. Heartbreak. Euphoria. Tragedy. Glory. Overwhelmed. Triumphant. This is the life of an athlete. Anyone who steps on the field has put in the hard work training and practicing to overcome the other competitors and seize victory. It's not always an easy path. Injuries, rivalries, self-doubt, and the biggest obstacle of all, time. No matter how good an athlete is, sooner or later, their body begins to break down. This is a story about many athletes and what the spirit of competition can extract from the mind.
Ravenna is one of Shibuya's most noteworthy young athletes. The track and field star has set all kinds of high jump records and won many meets, but is still a relative unknown across the wonderful nation of Japan. Having graduated college, Ravenna doesn't get to compete as much as previously. However, one day she gets an important letter that would change everything.
Ravenna is your typical young woman in Shibuya. Hangs out with friends, loves shopping, hates cooking, seeking success as an athlete. Her dark hair has grown longer and her hips have gotten wider. She has been living with her friends at Kiyoko's family shrine. Ravenna is laying on the couch upside down watching a reality show. She is wearing a white tank top and black shorts with feather around the back and sides.
Kiyoko is sitting on the couch in her usual maiden attire. Although she is probably leading the shrine maiden charts in most bbq sauce on her collar. She is eating a bucket of chicken laughing at how absurdly stuck up the women on the show are. Akil is sitting nearby at a computer watching documentaries about tombs in his home country of Egypt. He is wearing a yellow and black track jacket and pants with a gold visor atop his shaved head.
Kiyoko: "I don't know how ye can stomach these shows. These women are all elitist scumbags that belong in the streets."
Ravenna: "Don't judge my entertainment. It's less destructive than throwing essential oils into a fire pit."
Kiyoko: "I was performing an internet speed spell, and it worked wonders, thank ye very little."
Suddenly, there is a knock at the door. Kiyoko grabs her staff and rushes to the door. She cracks it open slightly and pokes her head through to see who it is. There is a delivery man holding a stack of mail.
Kiyoko: "It's ye, again. Begone, evil spirit!"
Kiyoko throws spices from her sleeve at the delivery man. He just sighs and turns away.
Delivery man: "We go through this every time, crazy hag. Here's your mail."
Ravenna comes over and tries to calm Kiyoko down.
Ravenna: "Sorry, she's just a very superstitious woman. I hope your deliveries are going well."
Delivery man: "Whatever. Some company you keep."
The delivery man is very cross. He storms off shaking his head. Ravenna sulks and tosses her hair in frustration.
Ravenna: "Do you have to be so embarrassing? He was kind of cute."
Kiyoko: "Cute?! Now, Ravenna, I know it's been a while since ye've had a man in your life, but let's not spread our legs for just anyone. He looks a few years older than ye. Don't ye go chasing an older man. Are ye feeling okay? Are ye under some kind of spell?"
Ravenna: You know, you disgust me sometimes. And stop saying ye! Let's just see what's in the mail."
