Koitarou frowned. He was lost.
No wait, that wasn't exactly correct. Being lost somewhat implies that he had lost his sense of direction. His situation was far more grave.
He was walking through a forest. A densely packed one. Dark, crowded and unsettling. The sort of forest that you would host a test of courage in. He was never good with tests of courage, especially since he lacked much courage to begin with. He knew that everything was fake, but couldn't help but jump back or whimper whenever a monster popped out of a bush. There was also that time he got scared and urina-
No, wait. Why was he reliving his past traumas? Has he not gotten over the humiliation that he received that day? Stop, stop, stop! Focus on more important and current things!
"...where am I, anyways?" He asked himself as he ducked under a stray branch and took another step into the soft soil beneath.
If his memory served him correctly, Koitarou had been walking down the streets oh Shibuya, on his way back from cram school only moments ago. He was going to take the train home when all of the sudden... what happened again?
"Weird. I can't quite remember how I got here." Koitarou commented, deep in thought and taking little notice of his surroundings. "Did I bang my head on a tree and forget everything?"
It was like there was a blank hole in his memory. He remembered heading over to the train station and him awakening to find himself in the forest but nothing in between. Just what happened in between these two eve-
Koitarou suddenly heard the loud rustle of leaves behind him. He spun around, alert. Of course, there was nothing there. The little light and vast overgrowth made seeing anything hard as it was.
He quickly dismissed the sound to be some sort of animal, probably a monkey, and returned to his aimless wander through the plant life.
Speaking of which, the plant life here wasn't what he was used to seeing. He knew only a little about botany but he had never seen these species of trees before. Nor the grass. Or the mushrooms (Which looked very inedible by the way).
"What a weird place. Almost dream like." He noted, grasping through the darkness.
Oh wait, that actually makes sense. He must be dreaming right now, having fallen asleep on the train ride home. Still though, it was quite the weird dream. Certainly vivid...
"Wah!" His foot had managed to be tangled in the serpentine roots covering the forest floor and he unceremoniously tripped, falling flat on his face. His face met the moist dirt, an unpleasant experience, and slight pain tingled through his nose, which had landed on the tip of a root. He hoped that he hadn't grazed himself on one of the branches, causing any cuts and tearing his clothes. He only had two pairs of his school uniform and he couldn't afford to rip one...
Wait, stop. Rewind that thought... Pain? Did he just feel pain?
His eyes widened at the connotations of that revelation.
"You have got to be kidding me."
Unknown to Koitarou, a creature was secretly watching him from above It chuckled to itself as it spotted its prey. Yes, it wasn't everyday that it met a human. Heck, it was in fact its first encounter with the species. That's why it determined to have some extra fun with the human and welcome him to the digital world.
"Time to play. Hehehe..."
