The thundering clouds occupied the sky, not leaving a single trace of sun. Not that Charles wanted it anyway. He had been trying to restrain from people, and people enjoyed light, in general. Therefore, he should stick to dark places. Despite, not being entirely dark, that was the best he`d get. Despite not making him happy, this routes were the best life would give him.
Charles`s stomach growled. The boy felt the temptation to open his bag and take out the rest of his food supply, which he had just gathered from the forest, a couple days ago. He shook his head, trying to push off his hunger, his desire for food. He had a Schedule to keep. Only eat at night, never at day, to conserve food and prevent him from interacting with annyone while eating lunch. He couldn`t afford to know annyone, at least not in a friendly manner, not at that point.
The wind blew a little strongly, Charles`s cloak floating in the air. The boy wished the wind didn`t get any stronger, or in the very least that it didn`t get strong enough to push the cloak away from him. If that happened...he didn`t want to think about it. The last time it did, it costed him dearly, much more than it ever should. He wasn`t prepared to deal with things as Chaoskimeramon`s immense will power. Who could? Too much anger, too much hatred, all stored in one being that awaited for who-knows-how-long to unleash it on those it thought worthy of such.
A lightining appeared in the sky, the thunder being heard in the mainframe hills like a sarcastic drumroll. Charles looked down, thinking about stopping there, throwing away all his stuff ad just letting himself starve to death or get killed by some wild digimon. No, he wouldn`t. He was exiled, tortured, broken. But not finished. He`d struggle. He`d live. And if it was possible...he´d save himself.

Mainframe hills, such a weird place to be, but... since when Mana did need reasons to do anything? Truth to be told, since the event in the network plains she just... wanted to be somewhere where the land didn't look scarred beyond repair. They've fought what it looked to be unwinnable battle, just struggling to keep themselves alive. Since the fight against Vikaralamon, she hadn't felt so powerless in her life, and even though she, Ayaka and even Penny had growth a lot since then, it had all been for naught, and that feeling made her sick to her stomach.
She was currently sitting on top of the female dragon, who was currently in her Ginryumon form. It floated not so far from the ground, as the clouds didn't look like a really good place to be. However, her sights shifted abruptly from the sky to a figure in the distance... a human male.
She gestured to the girl to take a look, and when she did, her eyes widened; she recognized him. The boy who was supposed to be her boyfriend and had only said goodbye with a letter. His words had calmed her soul somewhat, knowing that at least he was in accord with her decision, but she wasn't a girl for half-assed stuff.
"Charles!" she called as the dragon closed on him, flying at a relatively fast speed "Charles, is that you!?".

Charles spit out some of the grass, the green remaining gently floating down and being blwon ahead by the gentle wind. Charles had decided to chew on some grass, just to try to illude his body and keep the hunger at bay. He heard it worked, but so far he was having little success.
He spit the reamining grass to chewed for him to continue. As the rest, it flew ahead with the breeze, a strange thing now that he thought about it. The clouds in the sky seemed to call for a storm, not a gentle breeze. Maybe the digital world was just strange that way. Still, he couldn't help but look up to the clouds, hoping they wouldn't expose him to the sun just yet.
What he saw, on the other hand, made him freeze. He witnessed as a dragon digimon turned in his direction and started to fly in his direction quickly. But more terryfying than that, was the voice he heard coming from it. A girl that was riding the dragon called out his name, and he immeditaly knew it was her. Mana, his girlfirend, who he traumatized into faiting and had abandon as he came to hisself-inflicted exile to keep everyone safe from what he was trying to hold inside him. His spirits, especially Chaoskimeramon.
He knew it would be pointless to attempt to escape. There was no way he could outrun the dragon, especially as he weak as he was. Still, he found his mind split into two once more. A part was joyful from the sight of her, wanting nothing more than to get back to a normal life, a happy one with her. But that was the dreamy part of him. The down-to-eart one knew that if something seemed to be going for him, it wasn't. That part would prefer of the dragon sliced him right there and ended his misery.
And so, Charles waited for the dragon to land and stop.
"Hi. Long time." Charles simply said, nervous. Being nervous about this situation was the only thing all parts of him had in common at that point.

The brown-haired girl jumped down the Ginryumon's back once she reached her destination, devolving right after to Ryudamon.
"Yup. Long time no see." She replied with a smile as she looked intently at him. Lest to say, his appearance was... not the best, and that was putting it midly. "How you have been?"
That was a question to fill silence, as Mana just didn't know how to face the situation, nor how she felt about it; she thought that she'd be angry or guilty or so many other emotions, but... it seemed that none of them were present, just a strange sense of... relief? She didn't know if that was the exact word, but she thought that that was the closest thing her brain had conjectured. With a quick motion, she took seat in the soft grass at a relatively close distance from Charles. Ayaka was puzzled at all this events, but she kept it quiet for the time being. There was no reason to be snappy or jumpy, after all.
"Wanna grab a bite?" The girl asked innocently, setting her backpack on the ground too and retrieving a bento box. "You look like you could use it. Maybe we could even catch up?"
Her voice was tentative, but a slight tinge of hope permeated it. She opened the box and retrieved a onigiri; she began to munch it slowly as she waited for the boy's response.

Charles gave Mana a faint smile as she greeted him. He longed to hear her voice, but couldn't help but wonder what new curse that day would bring him.
"I'm just fine, thanks. "Charles lied. In truth, this last few weeks had been hell. Even avoiding people was harder than it should be, especially if the idea wasn't to just run into the desert and hope nobody lived there. It was painful to have memories flood in, only as a terrible reminder of everthing that had been taken from him.
Charles scouted Mana as she sat near him. She seemed strabgely calm, given why he had to leave. Charles tried to figure why and he noticed Ayaka and the dragon were still there, silent.
"Hi Ayaka, nice to see you again. And nice tower you...however you are. I assume that dragon is a new friend of your's, Mana?" Charles greeted. Ayaka's silence was off, just like Mana's calmness. Maybe Mana didn't remember that Charles had...murdered someone. And if Ayaka didn't say anything then...the conversation was now a lot more awkaward. One more pile of memories ment to be lost, weighting on his shoulders. He sat near Mana and took some food as he was offered, his stomach growling loudly just by the sight of anything different than berries and meat apples.
"Thanks. I don't have much to catch you up with. Essentialy all I've done was roam about and try to avoid people." Charles explained "And you?"

The brunnete ate in silence, comtemplating the boy in front of her as she ate, at least until Charles refered to her partner. Ayaka looked politely at Charles, politely bowing back as a response.
"Greetings, Charles-san." She said with her usual tone, her voice not betraying any emotion except for a staunch neutrality towards what was happening.
Penny, on her stead, eyed the boy with a quota of curiosity. She looked like the most lively of the trio, and by a far margin.
"Pleased t'meet ya too, Charles-kun!" She lively replied to the boy's words. "My name's Penny and I'm Mana-sama and Ayaka-sama's steward. Hopefully we will become good friends!"
Mana smiled with amusement at the dragon's introduction as she produced another onigiri from her bento box.
"Yeah, she's been traveling with us for a while now. She has been really helpful to us, too." She commented. "Specially given how much has been happening as of late."
She blinked at Charles' next words, almost as if they didn't make any sense at all.
"I'm glad to hear things are alright for you; things have been hectic for me so far, even in the Digital World. Have you seen the area surrounding Terminus? Unsighty is a very mild way to put it."

"I hope we can become friends too, Penny." Charles said smiling. His voice tone didn't show it, but he doubted the veracity of his own words, knowing what happened with him and friends he made. Or at one point, girlfriend. Mana then proceeded to explain that things weren't so well with her, exemplifying with something that was supposed to have happened to the network plains. Charles found his left hand grabbing his cloak as recalled it was on the network plains he got it. He wondered if he should tell Mana he scared away three people trying to help him with another possession from Nightspellmon. He decided not to. "Well, I am glad that you git yourself some extra protection then. I didn't see it myself, but I asssume it's something similar to what happened to WhiteWater and Jungle next to it? And to Snowflake Village?"
Charles thought about all that death and destruction. He hoped it wasn't related to anthring dome by his spirits or they're followers. He heated killing. But mostly, he hated the pain he brought to those who were close to the ones who were killed. Charles heard in death you can rest. But those who simply see it...not so much.
Speaking of dead, that's how Ayaka sounded. Suspicion grew a bit more in Charles as to what she was thinking. Something that wasn't so good for him, likely. Nomatter. How could he get any worse by anything she did? He was arledy essentially living in the worst possible conditions. Alone. Pained. Helpless. Desperate. Sad. Forgotten. Unforgiven.

The female dragon smiled back at Charles on a reassuring way; even if she didn't quite buy the boy's words. But even then, she wasn't really on a position to argue or to say something to him; it just wasn't her place, and probably wasn't the time.
After munching the second onigiri, the girl got up from her spot on the ground and dusted her clothes. She stretched her limbs and yawned with a tired gesture, looking at Charles right after. For some reason, she hadn't addressed anything that Charles had said, instead chosing to just look at the sky for a split second, a distant and unreadable expression etched on her face.
"I guess I should get going; I wasn't intending to stay here for too much time anyway. It was nice to see you again, Charles. Do you want me to bring you food again someday? Maybe we could work out a picnic or something. That'd be fun."
Unceremoniously, she began to pack the meager things she had umpacked previously. They weren't much, and given Ayaka's and Penny's help, they finished doing it on quite a quick fashion.
"Do you need a lift to anywhere in specific? We could drop you there if you want to."

Charles's sides flipped their mood. The part of him that wanted Mana was now sad as she said she was leaving, but wanted to accept the offer for them to accept the offer to see each other again in a picnic of some sort. His other side instead was glad she was leaving, so she would be safe from him, and knew it best to decline her offer.
"Yeah, sure don't worry, just go, I'll be fine. I'm not sure if it would be good to ask you to bring me food. I can get well on my own, and it would be hard to find me anyway, as I am not staying in any specific place fir the moment. As for a ride somewhere....No, there's no place I can think of. Anyway, I guess I see you some other day then?" Charles told Mana, smiling politely the best he could. There seemed to be so much to be said that he had to keep quiet about and yet, so little as well.
His life was like that, full of contradictions and ironies. He felt the need to ask Mana if she got his letter, but he stopped himself. If Mana didn't, certainly Ayaka had something to do with the matter. He wouldn't be the one to bring it up, for the sake of whatever Ayaka's motives for keeping the truth from Mana (as Charles suspected she did), as well as her relabtionship with Mana. Charles sometimes wished he had a partner instead of his spirits. Partners seemed so much more...reliable than his spirits. Then again, everything seemed much more reliable than his spirits. Except in one aspect.
Nightspellmon never lied. He wasn't straightforward honest either, he just gave him the truth in another form. A form in which Charles rarely believed him. Few believed his words at all. And yet somehow, when the moment for it came, it seemed Nightspellmon's words and plans always came to life as part of reality.

"Is that so?" Mana asked, puzzled expression on her face. Her expression became downcast when Charles seemed to want to ask something, but she didn't say a word. Turning her back, she looked at Penny. "We're leaving this place now, Penny-chan."
Penny looked at her back with shocked expression, as if she had said something strange or her sentence carried some kind of hidden meaning, but complied. On a showy display, her body began to grow even more so than in his champion stage, elongating and taking a serpentlike shape, until Owryumon's features completely replaced hers. Both the brunette and the fairy got on the dragon's back, and Mana looked at Charles one last time; her eyes were puffy and bloodshot, at the smallest amount of tears trickled down them. She gave something to Ayaka, and she quickly extended it with her vine-like limbs towards the boy; it was an envelope. Before he could say or do anything, the dragon flew off at an amazingly fast speed, leaving the scene in a matter of seconds.
Inside, dark pink letters on an almost perfect caligraphy told a message with a dire meaning; the meaning of this meeting, and many, many more things.
Charles,
If you are reading this, it means that a topic of utmost importance to us hasn't been noted when we finally saw each other again. While this was written beforehand and I simply cannot predict the future and convey whatever I am feeling in the moment this letter reaches your hands, I have been thinking about us since the day that that letter reached my mailbox and my feelings have been swirling since that day. Sometimes, I would feel pissed off at you for that cowardly goodbye, others I'd just feel glad that everything was over, even when in reality I didn't feel it that, but I'm good at fooling myself, I guess.
I thought about how everything ended too; was our relationship just mercy killed or there was something else in there? Could anything be done to salvage it? I really doubt it, as the poor thing just seemed to be fated to die, as if infected with a terminal illness; maybe a fraction of me knew that from the very beginning, yet I insisted in defying destiny, thinking that I could fix your spirits; I'm rather good at thinking wishfully too, I guess.
Yet... if this is in your hands, may I ask... why haven't you seen the signs? I know that you're somewhat dense, but... really? I guess that we didn't even know each other that much anyway. What to say, I guess that my overly practiced script made a good enough impression. I hope you enjoyed my company at least, because I'm not sure if I enjoyed yours. Not because of you, obviously, but because all the feelings that surge inside me because of everything we've been through.
Anyway, better if I don't bother you any longer; I got to go on with my life, and I hope that you can find the strength to tread the path you have chosen.
And at least now the two of us agree that 'us' doesn't exist anymore. Knowing you was a pleasure, and I wish you the best of lucks in your life.
Goodbye, Mana. exit(Thread);

Much to his suprise, Charles recoeved a letter from Mana as she left and flew away. His eyes widened as he read it, his chest burning and bumping inside, as if his body wanted to explode. Why he couldn't discern, just as he didn't know why he just fell down to his knees as soon as he finished reading it, dropping the paper. Or maybe he did.
"So, it was true. There was never love. She didn't even enjoy my company. It was all a fake, an illusion. Like Nightspellmon said." Charles commented to himself. He felt like crying, but for some reason, the tears wouldn't come. Only anger. Only hatred. "I...there's nothing to trust anymore."
"Oh, Charles..." Nightspellmon said in his head "You still have me. You know I never lied to you. You can trust me to always to tell you the truth, nomatter what it is."
"Now that's a lie. You are luke that. You're just using me. You don't care about me." Charles replied, a madle chuckle coming from him. He felt Nightspellmon pressured, as if something wasn't going all that well with the spirit. "What's the matter? Said something wrong?"
Charles chuckled again.
"You...laughed it wrong. You know I care about you Charles. You're my host afterall. But I put the world's fate before your happy was." Nightspellmon echoed in Charles's head. "It's a harsh truth, but I promiseed to tell you all the truths. I care about you, however, I want your safety. That's why I haven't told you where my brother is and I won't until you mastered Chaoskimeramon."
A new resolution came to Charles. This was too much to handle. His spirits were the only things he could trust now? How ironic...A bad joke from fate. But he'd solve it. He had a plan before, so he might as well finish it, now that he had the next clue.
"I'll find you all." Charkes promissed "And get myself rid of this curse. And if everybody thinks being selfish is so important then..."
Fractal code appeared all around Charles's hand as hedrew his digivice.
"Charkes what are you doing? This isn't you, this is a terrible idea!" Nightspellmon warned.
"...Why should I care?" Charkes wondered before sweeping his D-Tector and through the fractal code "Fraction Beast Spirit Evolution!"
The fractal code expanded and swallowed Charles, covering his screams as they turned into loud roars that echoed through the hills, before it disappeared.
Chaoskimeramon was free...and angry.
