William stepped out of the town car, and quietly thanked the driver. He left his bags in the car, they were to be dropped off at the boarding house, his new home. He found the idea of calling any of this home, strange, to say the least. His parents had picked Japan in hopes that it would be the change he needed, Will didn't argue, he didn't really care where in the world he was, he didn't really care about anything, or at least he hoped that's what it looked like to everyone around him. He heard the car rev out onto the street behind him, and leave into the traffic, he had no exit now.
All he had to do was register at the school, let them know that he was here, and then leave. He knew what they were probably thinking, that he was just another problematic rich kid with too much money, and not enough love. Well, that wasn't too far from the truth, but Will knew he was different, he didn't know how or why, but he always just felt somehow better than everyone else, his shrink would probably call that a superiority complex though. The school looked so big, it was weird being at a school that had every school year in one place, he did not have that back in New Zealand.
He managed to find his way to the main office somehow, he didn't ask for his directions for two reasons; he didn't like asking for anything, and also he couldn't speak Japanese. Imagine that, his parents sending him to live in Japan, when he had never even watched anime. The lady at the front desk smiled at him as he walked in, he smiled too, Will had somehow managed to perfect the art of smiling without actually feeling anything.
"Hey, I'm William Liberman, I am here to sign in," he said, hoping that she spoke English
"Welcome William, good to see you arrived safely," she replied. Will sighed with relief.
"Do I need to sign anything?" He asked, there was probably some 'my parents hate me' waiver.
"Everything has already been taken care of, here is your timetable, and some school information," she handed him about ten pieces of paper, and a timetable. It was Sunday so his first day was tomorrow, guess he had some light reading to do. "Thank you so much, have a great day," he said as he left the office. She was lovely, he could probably count that as making a friend.
Will wasn't very good at making friends, not real friends anyway, not friends that he actually cared about. He usually just had very basic conversations with people, and talked to them about the weather or sport or whatever the biggest reality TV show at the moment was.
So there he was, standing outside the school grounds, in a new country, with no family or friends. At this point most people would feel alone, but Will was used to this feeling, and that scared him slightly.
