Nova and his team of Digimon arrived a what appeared to be a ruined city. Their earlier trip to the ancient ruins revealed some Digicode that mentioned a city that was suggested that have some ties to Sparks. It had talked about being home to Star type Digimon (not Starmon or any related Digimon) before it got destroyed by a lone Digimon. Any images of the Digimon or mentions of its name had been chipped away long before they discovered it.
Nova decided that if retracing the steps of Sparkmon's current life wasn't enough, then maybe they needed to the same with his past life. Agreeing with him, Sparks had decided it best if they split from the group for a while before meeting back up with them in Rustport. Their current group consisted of the linked human and Digimon, the Kyupimons Angie, Pit, Icarus, Hope, and Lucy, the Stingmon Spike, and the hylden that now inhabited Sparkmon's sword, Robin. They looked around, scanning the area.
It seemed deserted for the most part. And it was definitely in ruins. It was in as bad of shape as Rustport was before the rebuilding had started. Perhaps even worse. "I wonder what exactly happened. Until now, I thought I was the first and alst of my kind, but now I'm beginning to question that a little," Sparks spoke up. "Beats the heck out of me. I'm still waiting to see if my Plasmadramon theory holds up," Nova replied. "If Nova was correct about you, your help will become invaluable in the future," Lucy agreed, adjusting her glasses.
"There are a few Digimon hiding out here. They could be explorers, they could be looters, or they could be thieves," Sparks warned. "Either way, keep your guards up. There's no telling what we might find," Nova agreed as he glanced at his Fusion Loader's radar. "I'll survey the area with my brothers and sisters. We'll report back here once we're done," Angie told them. The five In-Training levels flew up into the air. Soon enough, they returned. "I found a Gargomon." "I found a Dracmon." "I found a dinosaur skeleton." Upon hearing this Lucy whipped her head around.
"You spotted a Skull Greymon?!" she asked. Hope shuddered at the name. "Something I should know about Skull Greymon?" Nova asked. "Sk-Skull Digimon tend to be more dangerous than other Digimon. Especially Skull Greymon," Hope warned. "Noted. Levels?" Nova asked. "One Champion, one Rookie, and one Ultimate, but I'd be careful with the Rookie. It could be hiding its true strength," Spike replied. "We'd better Digifuse you into Angelo Sparkmon just to be safe," Nova told them.
"Sparkmon, Kyupimons, Digifuse!"
With the turn of a dial and press of a button, Sparks floated into the air. The five Kyupimon flew towards him as five streaks of light. They had become intangible, entering Sparkmon's body. His black markings faded away. He gained two feet in height. Four more teeth stuck out of his mouth. His gloves also had become fingerless sometime during his growth spurt. His muscles had also become more defined. Next the fin atop his head elongated into a horn similar to that of a Kyupimon's, tacking on another three inches. His gloves turned white.
Next, a pair of angelic wings sprouted from his back. To finish it up, a ring of light formed around his right wrist, and a halo formed over his head. "Angelo Sparkmon!" Sparks floated down to the ground. "And now they probably know we're here if they didn't already," Spike muttered. A click sounded. Next thing Nova knows, he's tackled to the ground as Sparks uses his shield to protect them. Nova looked up to see their attack was large pants wearing bunny. "Gargomon I assume," Nova muttered. He raised Fusion Loader. "Reload Shinsei!" The sacred sword sprang from the Digivice, spinning through the air before Sparks caught it, causing it to change into Noble Shinsei.
The blade was engulfed in flames before electricity arced around it. Sparks sent out an electrified, fiery shockwave from its blade, causing Gargomon to stop firing to move aside. Sparks then zoomed in, slicing him in half with Shinsei. The two halves burst into clouds of data which began to float away. "Harsh." "He attacked us offering any of his reasons. Not only did he do that, but he did so in the city of my ancestors," Sparks pointed out grimly before walking on ahead. "What's eating him?" Nova asked. Spike shrugged in reply.
The trio continued onward. Eventually they were stopped when Sparks held Shinsei in front of him. He pointed at a large pile of bones lying in the sand of the ruined square. As if on cue, the bones began to shake before reassembling themselves. The massive Skull Greymon towered over the trio. It wasn't hard to tell what this one wanted. Nova and Spike gave each other a nod. They were both on the same page as Sparks. Nova raised his Fusion Loader once more.
"Angelo Sparkmon, Stingmon, Digifuse!"
With the turn of a dial and press of a button, Sparks floated into the air again. The ring of light around his wrist moved around his bicep and he folded his wings against his back. Stingmon's wings retracted as he was encompassed by a green aura. His neck and antennae retracted into his head as it became a mask. His forearms also broke away from the main body, the rest of his arms retracting into his torso. His torso then broke away too, changing shape into a piece of armor bearing a close resemblance to a jacket.
His fore legs and feet retracted into his upper legs as the along with his bottom became the final piece of armor. Next, the pieces of Stingmon's body slipped themselves onto Sparkmon. The marks on his mask faded while the one centered on his forehead changed shape to match Nova's pendant. Next, a mane of spiky chestnut hair sprouted from the back of his head. To top it off, a pair of angelic white wings sprouted from his back before splitting into two pairs of wings. "Angelo Sparkmon Paladin Mode!"
Skull Greymon fired its organic missile. Sparks twirled Shinsei around into a reverse grip. He then flew straight for it, and, using his Plasma Lance attack, sliced the missile in two, causing it to explode behind him as he flew past it. Skull Greymon spewed a stream of purple flames. Sparks counterattacked with his own stream of flames and lightning using Noble Firestorm. The attacks cancelled each other out. Sparkmon's halo flew high into the air. He shot a bolt of lightning through it, causing a storm cloud to form. Lightning began crashing down, striking Skull Greymon in the process.
Nova ran toward Skull Greymon for cover, mentally relaying a plan. Sparks kept on the offensive, rushing in with Shinsei as a distraction. As he came in Skull Greymon made attempts to swat him with its large skeletal arms as if he were a fly. Once Nova was positioned below Skull Greymon's skull, he mentally signalled Sparks, who fired his Noble Thunder into his storm cloud, causing it to violently rain down lightning. As Skull Greymon was constantly struck, Sparks came in and split its skull with Shinsei.
The skeletal behemoth exploded into a cloud of data. Any objections now? Sparks asked as he slowly floated down. He was met with various responses that said otherwise. As he landed, Nova spotted Dracmon approaching with a contemptuous frown. He then Digivolved into what appeared to be a black knight decorated in black skeletal armor with many eyes. "Duskmon," Sparks said with distaste. Nova's best guess was they took out his pet. In an instant, he was right in front of Sparks, striking him with his sword. Sparks split into the several Digimon that made up his Xros form.
"Is anybody going to explain anything?" Nova asked. Before anyone could answer, Duskmon appeared in the middle of the group. "Ghiest Blade Storm!" Nova found himself tackled to the ground by Sparks again , who was shielding him with an electrical barrier as Duskmon unleashed a vortex of dark energy, sending Spike and the Kyupimons flying. Nova watched as Shinsei and three of the Kyupimon siblings flew overhead, the former landing within Nova's reach, stuck in the ground and the later trio bursting into clouds of data along with their other siblings.
Lucy's glasses landed in front of him, the lenses cracked. Nova rolled over and just lay there, his spirit shattered as Sparks stood. Tears welled up in Sparkmon's eyes as he squeezed them shut. When he opened them again, they narrowed into slits. "You'll pay for that..." he warned before giving off a gold aura. He was engulfed in golden light as he began to change shape. "Sparkmon Warp Digivolve to..." The light turned blood red. Nova's heart had sank as low it could go. Now he gaped, completely petrified.
What stood before him now was an ebony black dragon like dragon with demonic wings, crimson eyes, and was five times the size of Sparks. He let out a savage roar. Duskmon jumped up high aiming to strike Sparks in the chest. Sparks simply smashed him into the ground with his large claws. Sparks snarled as he began to crush the dark knight until he burst into a cloud of data. Sparks then turned his head, glaring down at Nova and Spike. "Nova, grab Shinsei!" Robin told the terrified Xros General.
This seemed to snap Nova out of this for a second as his hand found Shinsei's hilt as he shakily got to his feet. Spike pushed himself onto his feet. He flew through the air, avoiding Dark Sparks' incoming melee attacks as well as his breath attacks knowing they would all be fatal and doom Nova. He also knew they couldn't just leave Sparks. "Spiking Strike!" Spike managed to stab Sparks in the arm, injecting his paralyzing venom. As a result Sparks fell over, causing a tremor. "Nova, you have to strike Sparks with Shinsei! This may be your only chance!" Robin shouted.
Nova gulped before gripping Sinsei with both hands. He reluctantly charged toward Sparks. Nova stabbed Shinsei into his flank, running with it to leave a long cut. Sparks roared in pain before giving of a flash of light as he reverted to his Rookie form, the cut had seeming to be enough to cause Sparks to revert. Nova now found himself unsure what to do anymore. Their only viable battle options now were to use Hunter Sparkmon, and Sparks would most likely lose control in it again, or for Robin to exercise his hylden abilities. In order to stand up to the Machinedra Army, they would now have to call in their spy.
There's just one other problem now. Nova kneeled at Sparkmon's side, completely broken inside. His will wouldn't be sufficient to power the Xros Loader after all he was put through. Now he was simply a refugee. As long as he stayed in the Western Flatlands, however, he would be safe since Loader Leomon lacked much of a reason to hunt him, as he learned from Jet. They just needed to make it to Rustport.
((Dang, I actually made this longer than I planned. Too bad the fights were all pretty short.))
