"WHOO, WHOO!" Yeah, as it turned out up close, the trailmon really did just shout like a train whistle. It was somehow appropriate. Once they'd come to the realization that Lucemon really was Chief of Monmon island now, it had occurred to them they had a small slice of the Digital World to call their own. It occurred to Ren he might not be coming back to the Digital World for a while. So, he suggested Luce' don the disguise he'd worn when they first met at the river and they visit the real world. Ren could arrange to be away and pick up some supplies; Lucemon could play tourist. Kai wasn't interested in coming along, seeming... unsettled. He wouldn't talk about it.
Hookmon raised a driftwood sailboat he used to take them all back to the mainland; Lucemon found them a train from there that led to Terminus and the Real World beyond. Ren had bid Kai goodbye and thanked him, asking him to stop in at the C0ve any time.
"So why didn't you take the train in your first time through? Not that I'm complaining Luce,'," he said from a seat next to the digimon. "I'm glad to have had you with me. Do you think we'll feel it when we cross over? Do you think I can spirit evolve in the Real World?"

"Okay, find something else to call me, in my human disguise," Lucemon comments, activating his holosuit with a sigh, "As I understand it, 'Luce' is a female name in your world. I did my research, and my gender approximation is closed to male," Well, goodie for you, dork, "I imagine we'll feel something, yes. Maybe no more than a tingling sensation,"He examines his appearance in the faint reflection provided by the window. Not too bad. "I'd heard about the portal, and wanted to explore it, that's all. I like exploring. And as for your...spirit evolution, I don't see why not. From what I've heard, I should still be able to digivolve, and it is...more or less the same process. So, what exactly are we doing in your world?"

"We could call you Louis. Louie. Lou. I'm not really sure how time works where we've been. I need to make sure my Grandma doesn't think I've disappeared. She's used to me going out to sail for a few days, but more than that and she might think I fell overboard or something." He leaned back, absently flipping through the pages of the journal again. He'd been looking it over a lot, but besides mentions of a pirate the could be interpreted as Hookmon, there was nothing helpful so far. "I thought maybe I could see if any of Grandpa's things held clues to the Ocean Spirits and their locations. And we could use some supplies for the island... it's got the makings of a nice hideaway, don't you think?"
He grinned, his mind's eye going to all the possibilities that came from having one's own pirate cove. For, what else could it be with a Hookmon 'floating' around?

"Yes, it does. So says your Pirate King. I'll pick a name by the time it's relevant, so let's table that for now. 'Grandma'. 'Grandpa'," Lucemon shakes his head, "Strange words. Do I get to meet this person?" Well, he's always happy to meet new people, especially humans at the minute.
"As for looking through his things, that's a sensible idea. What kind of supplies do you need, though? Meat grows in sufficient amounts on our island," He seems slightly confused.

"Well humans reproduce together to create offspring. My dad and mom had me. I inherited my D-scanner and the chest and stuff from my grandpa, my dad's dad. My dad's mom, my grandma, is still alive and I want her to know I am too. Follow?" He put the journal away, not having the attention to devote to poring over its stories right now. "I thought it would be helpful to have some basic stuff: maybe some rope, sleeping bags. A few tools to help with building. A fishing pole, though I guess I could just spirit evolve to Crabmon. I wouldn't mind grabbing some extra clothing, since this looks to be a long trip. Matches, gotta have matches."
He gave his friend an expectant look. "Supplies," he reiterated. As if that explained everything.

"Hm. I suppose so, yes. Human interpersonal relationships seem similar to ours, beyond...reproduction. All things considered, Digitama are probably preferable," he shakes his head, sighing, "Very well, I will come with you and meet this 'Grandma' that you speak of,"
Oh boy.
"I see. I don't know some of the words you've used, but I believe I understand. We should bring back some human food as well. I'm eager to sample something other than berries and meatfruit," He returns the expectant look in kind. Weird. "Bah. How long is this going to take?" Impaaaatient.

Well crap. When Ren had made the suggestion he hadn't exactly been expecting to introduce Lucemon to his grandma. Well, he could hardly not bring him now. Here's hoping this didn't get... weird. Something told him that could be asking for a lot. But screw it, this whole thing was already weird. And when did he stop wondering if he was actually dreaming anyway?
As Lucemon said, there was something like a tingle and a brief feeling of vertigo. Ren's vision flashed as if all the colors had briefly inverted, and then they were slowing down. The familiar shape of an underground train station came into view and the trailmon stopped with a jerk, grumbling "Last stop, everybody off." in a voice that rumbled through all the cars. "That was... sudden and somehow dramatic. Looks like we're in an unused terminal. It must connect to the main terminal somewhere nearby."
"Was there anything specific you wanted to see in the real world?"

"Experience your culture in some way. Eat human food. But there's time for that later. If someone's worried about you, Ren Campbell, you'd best put those concerns to rest, yes?" He stands, and disembarks from Trailmon, giving it a nod as he does so. Ah, back in the human world.
Immediately, the smell hit his nostrils. The human world smelled very different. Like metal, and sweat, and car exhaust fumes. It wasn't entirely unpleasant, just...different. He turns back to Ren.
"Well, you'd best lead the way, Ren Campbell! Pirate King has no idea how to get to whatever server 'Grandma' resides on,"

"You know only crazy people refer to themselves in the third person. And I am not going to call you 'Pirate King.' 'Pirate Chief,' maybe..." Ren followed the light and sound from this little-used platform and soon came to a gate that swung open on their arrival, releasing the young man and disguised digimon into the terminal proper. They made for the exit, Ren stopping along the way to grab a newspaper from a box on their way out. It was what people did in the movies, anyway.
"Well as far as I can tell time moves about the same. It's only been a few days. Grandma's apartment is in Western Shibuya, so we've got a little walking ahead of us. We can grab some food on the way. I'm sure she's fine; she was used to Grandpa disappearing for days on sailing and camping trips. He usually remembered to tell her he was going."

"Yes. Let us procure sustenance as we travel. Onwards, commands the Pirate King!" He points, dramatically, and then smiles. It translates through the holosuit pretty well. He begins to walk along, half a step behind Ren, head turning in every direction, taking in every sight and sound like a little kid.
"So, um. What? Oh. Well, that might be true, but you are a different individual. ...Unless there's a DNA Digivolution I'm not aware of. She may not have expected it from you. Either way, we should go. Let's just pick up around three kilograms of confectionery treats, and carry on!"

Luckily Ren hadn't lost his wallet from his pack while they'd been travelling. They stopped at an ATM and Ren withdrew from his savings while failing to explain economics and currency to Lucemon. They didn't get three kilograms of candy, but they did stop in at a fish shop for little containers of sushi they could eat while they walked, and packets of rough-kept fried potatoes. "It's not exactly fish and chips, but close enough," he explained as they walked back out onto the street. He also promised to take Lucemon to an ice cream parlor he knew after their visit. Everyone should experience ice cream.
It was strange being back. Everything was so... ordinary. Ren felt like the world had changed so much. His perception of it certainly had. He found himself eager, of all things, to return to the Digital.

Lucemon practically inhales the food he's given. He seems very enthusiastic, which makes sense if he's had such a limited diet for his entire existence. "This food is delicious! Mm. No wonder so many people here seem to have enlarged their stomachs, that they might eat more," Yeah. That's how it works.
He continues to follow along after Ren. Fortunately he has a concept of economics anyway, since there are still traders and stores in the Digital World. However, he's quite amused that he has to use a slip of polymer to generate currency printed on the epidermis of dead foliage. He phrases it exactly like this, as well.
On they go!

"We'll have to turn here and follow this street a ways," Ren explains, leading Lucemon into Western Shibuya. He'd already handed the digimon half his potatoes to tide him over. They walked on towards Grandma's House... [Ren's story is continued in Step into Grandmother's House.]
