The jungle. That's where they'd ended up, after Lucemon had examined the notes, some more. A mention of some kind of cavern in a jungle. No, no. That's not concerning at all. It'll all be fine, clearly. Lucemon isn't too happy about the humidity, but frankly it's far less concerning than the occasional pulses of light that issue from his chest.
They seem to be getting more and more frequent, and he's given up trying to hide them altogether.
"I think...North. North? North."

"North to where though," Ren asked, wiping sweat from his forehand with the back of his hand. He'd left his leather bomber jacket behind, his tank top being about all he could take in the oppressive humidity. It was heavier in the deep jungle than it was near the ocean, that was for sure. He hefted the small machete he'd purchased in the real world and resumed carefully working his way through the dense jungle, when necessary hacking at the obstructing vegetation. "We're looking for a cave. In a jungle. Do you digimon know the expression about needles and haystacks? Because there's a lot of jungle here..."
Ren continued chatting away as they moved through the jungle, every so often risking a glance at his occasionally glowing friend. The glowing was strange. It seemed to concern Lucemon, and that worried Ren. What could it be?

"Do you humans know about the concept of patience?" Lucemon returns, with a grin, as he continues to walk in, the frequency of the pulsing growing and growing as they move. It feels a little odd. Like he's being zapped by electricity, although not in an unpleasant way. Maybe it's indigestion from all those cookies...
"Just...keep walking. It's the Digital World. If we're meant to find it, we will. Things tend to work out like that, here. Although what we're going to find is another matter entirely. Treasure, maybe? Oh, or one of your spirits."

"Humans? Sure, we have the concept of patience. Me on the other hand..." he grinned, cutting at a vine that was in his path. As they walked, he noted the continued, ever-increasing pulse of light coming from the angelic digimon's chest. It didn't seem to be causing Luce' any pain, so there was that. It could be worse. Crap. The hero should never say or think that. Always trouble...
"Another Ocean Spirit would be great. Hookmon still feels.. not all there. I wonder how many there are, anyway. We could always use treasure, too. What qualifies as 'treasure' in the Digital World? Gold? Coins? Precious art? ...Bitcoins?"

"Anything. Gold, jewels, data packets. Lots of things are considered valuable. Some Digimon only find value in data from defeated foes, but if you want something tangible...I'd imagine it's the same as in your world. Don't worry, I'm sure whatever it is, it'll be--oh,"
He comes to a stop, as the pulsing changes into a continuous emission of light. His form becomes a humanoid shape made entirely of that same golden glow. His wings grow, as his body stretches upwards, attire changing. A helmet covers his eyes, and long blonde hair cascades down his back, as a long staff appears in his hand, "Lucemon digivolve to...Angemon," His voice is deeper. More 'grown up'-sounding. Well. Holy expletive.
It was the damned cookies. And the ice cream.

"It'll be what? Hey, Luce', are you- what the?" Ren staggered back as Lucemon burst into rays of golden glowing light and changed. It was almost impossible to see the form within the light, though he could sense by the way the light shifted that it was changing. Growing into something... else. Something more. Lucemon was digivolving. This was different than before, though. Before Ren had watched Lucemon call on the power, shapeshifting himself into the powerful aerial form of RaptorSparrowmon. This was seemingly spontaneous. He didn't seem to have control. That worried Ren.
"Erm. Holy shit," Ren offered simply, staring at the angelic form standing a bit taller and infinitely more majestically than he. "Luce'. You, er. Grew up."

"I'm not Lucemon anymore. Not at the moment," His calm voice speaks softly, although it carries surprisingly well, "For now, I am Angemon, a Champion-Level Digimon," His wings flare momentarily, as he examines the new staff he's seemingly acquired from nowhere.
"Defeating Sepikmon granted me a great deal of data. I must've only needed a little more strength to access my Champion form," He starts to walk again, holding the staff by his side in a very casual way. He seems to have lost a little grace in the way he moves on the ground, compared to Lucemon, but the other effects are quite apparent.
He's taller, seemingly much more powerful, and seems...almost 'older' in the way he talks. Suddenly kicked through DigiPuberty, maybe? Scary thought. "Don't worry. I'm still the same person, just...a little bit changed, for now,"

"What do you mean, for now? Will you change back? And what's this 'champion-level' thing mean?" He looked the digimon up and down, studying his lithe new form. He looked more like a warrior, less like a child. Couldn't have turned into this before you told Grandma we were banging, he thought to himself, his ears burning a little. One thought to definitely keep to himself. "So going to the real world gave you the last bit of strength you- are you saying ice cream made you digivolve?"
Now that was just silly. "You're more than a little changed, man. I'd never know it was you unless I'd seen it for myself. You digivolved into your handsome older brother or something."
"...How do you see through that?"

"Perhaps the ice cream was a catalyst. I don't know," Angemon pushes some loose foliage out of the way with his staff, "I assume I'll turn back when my energy runs low, or perhaps this is my new default form. Who can say?" He looks down at the ground. It seems quite far away...
"I don't know. I can just see through out. Perhaps it's transparent from the inside," He stops, turn forty-five degrees to the left, and continues on, "This way. 'Handsome', hm? Now who's the one with the 'crush'?"

"Ice cream is a ridiculous way to digivolve, man." He followed along with Luce's course change, letting the taller digimon take the lead now that he'd... upgraded. The jungle seemed almost to part for Angemon as he passed, leading them to make better time than they had up to this point. He studied Angemon's form as they walked, trying to see evidence of his young-looking friend in the much more adult body. It was weird.
"Handsome might be too strong a word. I mean, you've got the long flowing locks and chiseled jaw. But who knows what's under that mask? I bet you're got permanently crossed eyes or something." He laughed, nudging his friend as they walked. "Come on, Mr. Stoic Angelface. Don't tell me there's no room for a sense of humor in there."

"Less than you'd think," Angemon comes to a halt at the edge of the entrance to a cavern. It was surprisingly well hidden behind all these trees and such. There's a symbol etched into the top of the archway, but it looks badly corroded. Melted, even.
"I'd say this is the right place. Stay close, Ren. And stay behind me," He raises his staff, holding it in a more defensive pose as he starts to head inside, just like that. The inside of the cave is as you'd expect. Dark, mostly made of rock...although, surprisingly warm. Uncomfortably so.
The source of the heat is obvious, only a dozen steps in. Below the wide ledge that serves as a path, perhaps seventy feet down, is a pool of molten lava. In a cave. In the jungle. In a computer world.
Because of course it is.

It was hot in that cave. A couple feet in and the heat had almost totally boiled away the humidity, closing in around them like they were stepping ever-deeper into a massive oven. Ren came to an abrupt stop and said a few words you don't repeat in polite company, staring down at the lava somewhat in awe. "Great. No adventure complete without a narrow ledge and a fall into a lava-pit." He began to ease out along the rocky ledge behind Angemon, taking it slow and testing each step before he put his full weight down. He wasn't in a hurry and had no desire for a lava bath.
"This isn't so bad," he huffed, sweat pouring down his face as he moved further along. He'd be happy to get to the tunnel along the other side and away from the damn molten rock below them. "Man, what I wouldn't give to have some wings. Flying would be so much-"
And then his foot slipped.

Angemon spins around and, with impressive speed, dives down grabbing Ren by the back of his shirt, lifting the two of them back onto the path with a few flaps of those impressive wings of his, "Keep your mind on the task at hand, Mister Campbell," And with that said, he merely continues on towards the tunnel. He feels...uncomfortable to say the least. As a winged Digimon, he prefers to be out in the open where he can fly freely. Not this...restrictive, oppressive 'ceiling' nonsense.
The tunnel, thankfully, is short, although there's a definite sense of something being...'off'. "I believe we're being watched. Stay on your guard," And through the tunnel? A cavernous room, with a raised dais at the end. An intricately carved stone throne, perhaps twenty feet tall, and half as wide, sits on the dais.

Ren's stomach leaped into his throat as he began to fall, then plummeted to his toes as strong hands took the back of his shirt and lifted him back onto the narrow ledge. It was all over so quickly he'd barely had time to register what was happening, and just stood leaning against the wall of the cavern for a moment, staring with dismay at the lava below. That was... "Too close," he thought out loud.
They stood at the end of the tunnel opening into a massive cavern, its center taken up by a large dais and carved stone throne towering over them both. Ren eyed it warily, holding his D-scanner loosely in one hand. "Yeah, I've got the same feeling. Hairs standing up on the back of my neck." He turned to look at his friend, expression set with determination.
"It's probably a trap. I'm ready when you are."

Angemon's wings flare, a single flap carrying him across the chamber quite easily. He touches down infront of the throne, and runs his hands over it, "Mm. Ancient Digicode, perhaps. I can't read it," He steps behind the throne, emerging a few moments later, "Scuffmarks. Looks like there was a box, or a chest of some kind here, but it was moved. Quite recently, I'd say, by the lack of dust in that area,"
Something large, and dark rushes behind him. Whatever it is, it moves so quickly that little more than a shadow is seen. Sinister laughter fills the chamber, as the tunnel they just came through collapses, trapping the pair in...well, quite a spacious chamber, actually.
