“Do you remember when we first met?”
Scout blinks, and turns around. He'd just been minding his own business in his room, surfing the internet and...right behind him is Agumon. No, wait, it's not BlackAgumon, it's BigAgumon, his Sprite of Fire. A six and a half-ish foot tall bipedal reptile, with a disproportionate head. How the hell could his Sprite have gained its own body though?
Sure, Scout came to accept that the Spirits have personalities of some sort, even if they aren't conscious. After all, all of them had effects on his personality when he changed into them, to one degree or another. But...this? Since when can...
“Uh, yeah. It was an accident, right? My D-Scanner fell out of the sky and hit me on the head,”
The reptile tilts his head and then shakes it, “No. We first met when you used the D-Scanner to Spirit Evolve and defend yourself from those Gomamon in the alleyway. Nothing happens by accident, when it comes to those destined to enter the Digital World,”
“...You're a lot chattier than I'd've expected,”
“You're a lot whinier than I'd've expected,”
Scout blinks again, and then slowly shrugs, “Even if it wasn't an accident, so what? It's not like I...look, my life is going to be a lot easier without all that stuff,”
“Easy is borin', guy,” Replies a raspy, croaking voice from just behind him. The teen, naturally, jumps as he realizes FlaWizarmon is just...sitting casually on the bed, kicking his feet back and forth. Yeah. Alright. Why not.
“I...I have plenty of other stuff I can do to keep my life exciting,”
“Uh huh. Except you got a duty to help preserve the balance an' all that nonsense. Or did'ya think you were gettin' all those powers so y'could just show off for pretty--”
Scout cuts him off. Rude. “It would've been nice to have been asked before someone else decided to just push the responsibility on me,”
“You've helped people your whole life, where you could. What's the difference?” Agunimon appears in the middle of the room, in a burst of seemingly-harmless fire. Yeah. That sounds about right.
“Yer just makin' excuses,”
“And that's fine, you're scared,” BigAgumon acknowledges.
Agunimon takes back over. Eventually Scout'll get whiplash from trying to talk to three people at once, “But you don't have to be. He's not coming back. Not unless you want him to. You just...panicked. I know he hurt you, but we never did. You're not just punishing SkullGreymon, you're punishing us. And yourself. And probably some people that're going to need your help down the line,”
“So what do I do? Just...forget about it?”
“No, that'd be a mistake as well. You just need to accept it happened, and try to move on,”
Scout nods, slowly, and stands. Still...uncertain.
Agunimon extends a hand, “Just remember. We might not talk, but we're still with you. You're never alone,”
He awakens with a start. Especially when he realizes he's standing up. And outside. And on the damned roof. Just as curiously, his D-Scanner is in his hand, despite the fact it should be in Taka's room still. Well, at least there's nobody around. Nobody comes up to the roof, especially not at...well, whatever time it is. The moon's high in the sky, so. That time. Moon O'Clock.
Deeeeep breath.
“Charge and Up! Digivolve to...” He feels the familiar heat of the Spirit Fire surround him as his body contorts into its new shape. He feels the familiar power surging through his body. He might not back to what he was three weeks ago, when all this started, but this is a step in the right direction, he can't help but feel, “Agunimon!”
[Well, if other people get their cliche moments, so do I. D:]
