Beforehand: Mischievous Things
For those who would like to know.
Fate has a funny way of providing for you. In fact, this very Fate is also the foundation of a Wish. Ever heard of that saying, ‘Be careful what you wish for?’ Yes. We all have. And yet without our notice, we wish for the minuscule things. I wish I was smarter. I wish I could look like that. I wish I could have a pet. I wish my parents would stop fighting. I wish I was stronger. Every single time, without hesitation, those three little words will pop into your mind.
I wish.
I wish
I wish.
So how is it Fate? Because we are Fated to Wish. Buggles your mind now, doesn’t it? Or perhaps not? Whether that makes sense or sounds like a bunch of balongie to you, it will never matter. Every single human being will remain trapped in this entanglement of Fate and Wishes. No exceptions. Especially for this poor particular little boy.
Ikki Yukimura.
The twenty year old college student currently taking his pass over the bridge in the midst of day. A rendezvous with an Info Broker had not gone so well, and in his anger, he stormed off. Apparently that which he had been seeking was much more difficult to get a hold of. Things went far deeper than first appearances. And he couldn’t believe it. What he did gleam, was that the Cops have been paid off. They turned a blind eye! A blind eye to the man who had almost killed his little sister! It was unforgivable.
Ikki stopped, seething with rage. Someone whispered, and he could hear a pair shuffle by quickly. He was probably scaring everyone off. Calm down. He took a deep breath and sighed, resting against the railing of the bridge to overlook the murky river. What could he do against the Police Force? Nothing. The best he could is try to uncover their underhanded authority. Ha! Like that would work. If the cops were in pockets, he assumed everyone else with any power were. There was no where he could turn to.
Is this as far as I can go?
He bowed his head, distraught golden eyes peeking out beneath half shut lids. Teeth clenched. Ikki wanted to scream. This frustration! No, it couldn’t stop here. He couldn’t let it stop here. Whoever had did it, had to pay for their crimes. And it would have to be by his own hands….Are you willing to go that far? A part of him questioned. Yes. He would do anything for Rei. What she needed now was the justice for the atrocity that was committed against her…or is it for yourself? Ikki ignored that thought, pushing away from the railing.
I wish I had power.
…..This is why we can call it fate.
Someone…or rather something, appeared on the edge he had just been leaning against. It had a scare crow face, donned in red clothing and outlined with flames. A fiery wizard hat sat crowned on its head, and brown tilted to meet surprised filled golden. They stared at each other. What felt like an eternity had only been an exchange of a few mere seconds. Then it was gone, leaping past him and disappearing into the domestic trees placed about the city. Incidentally he heard a shout echo from below, where that strange creature had just came from. Ikki peered over in time to see a brunette boy, who had to be no older than fifteen, jump into the sewage that was the River! That kid was surely going to drown! What was he thinking? Suicide?
The urgent matter pushed the Wizard aside, and he fled the rest of the way of the bridge, cutting the corner in one bound into a stumbling dash down the hill; discarding the overcoat along the way. As soon as he made it to the edge, Ikki dived straight in without a moment of hesitation. The smell had hit his nose upon his entrance and nearly made him gag underneath the water. Ugh. And he could barely even see anything! Let alone the kid!
The volleyball player swam deeper, ignoring the sting to his eyes. No doubt they were going to become infected, eyeing the trashy debris floating by and noting spots of goo clinging to his hair. This really wasn’t the time to worry about that! Where was the brunette? Did he get pulled further along the river? As if to answer his question, a suction pulled him down by his leg. Ikki panicked, trying to escape the sudden current that was dragging him down. He kicked harder but the effort was burning up his oxygen! In his last attempt, a burst of bubbles escaped him. Lungs began to painfully blister.... Water filled his nostrils with the tempt to breath. Despite his mind knowing it was useless.
I’m sorry.
The last thought before Ikki blacked out. His body was tossed into the portal that linked the Human World to the Digital, and the River became silent once again. Satisfied.
Wishes are Fated to be.
