The screams could be heard half way across the city. There was only one thing that it could mean. Trouble. With my Digivice in my hand, and bag strapped securely to my back, I was running across the city. I had to do something. I was clutching a stitch in my side, when Patamon fluttered into view. “What’s going on up there?” I called to him, as he landed into my arms.
“I couldn’t see much, there is a lot of smoke blocking the view. All I could see was people running while they were screaming.” Patamon shivered into my chest. “And these awful roars. I think it’s a Digimon, he must have bio-emerged.” I nodded my agreement to his theories. We needed to do something about this, and fast.
“Well, this sounds like our kind of trouble. Patamon are you ready?” I held out my arms as he flew into the sky, turning towards me. He nodded, and I held out my Digivice. “Digivolve Patamon!” I called to him. “Patamon digivolve to … Angemon!” No matter how many times I saw it, I was still speechless. This beautiful angel, this protector of goodness and light. He was my partner, and he cared about me as much as I cared about him. Angemon flew behind me, wrapped his strong arms around me.
I knew it would be easier to fly, than to run through the crowded streets. I knew I could trust Angemon, he wouldn’t let anything hurt me. I felt safer when he was Pegasusmon, but I knew Angemon was a smaller target, and he could maneuver easier. Not that I would ever tell him this of course. Within minutes we were soaring above the streets and between buildings. I could feel the wind whipping through my hair, I glanced back, and giggled as I saw my silvery hair, mix with Angemon’s gold hair. It was pretty.
I turned around, and soon my giggling stopped. A huge, monstrosity broke into my view. I pulled out my digivice, scanning the area, waiting for the data to load. But … nothing! “I don’t believe this …” My voice trailed off. “Angemon … it isn’t …” I felt him look over my shoulder, as we began our descent towards a high rise building. “It isn’t digital” He said slowly. “But we have to try.” All I could do, was nod my head.
“I told you there were mutant alligators living in the sewers.” Angemon quipped. I was close enough to the thing, to see it clearly. It had big greyish black scales, which turned into spikes down its back. He was roaring this awful screech, I instinctively covered my ears, but what I feared the most, his razor sharp teeth, covered in what looked like blood, and his massive feet stomping, smashing cars, buildings, even people. His tail whipping around, crashing into … well … everything!
“Angemon…” My voice trailed off. I turned around and hugged him. “Please. If this is the end, I need to be with you. We are partners.” I felt his arms wrap around me once again, as he put his mouth to my ear, and softly whispered “Yes, we are, but I need to keep you safe.” I pulled back and shook my head no. I held on tighter. “We are in this together.” I said firmly. He broke my hold, and stepped away from me, I closed my eyes, not wanting to watch him leave me too.
Without another word, I felt my feet leaving the ground. For a moment I was amazed that I had won so easily. Only to realize once I opened my eyes Angemon’s face was contorted in a mix of horror and fury. I wasn’t flying, I was falling, and I could see the ground rushing towards me, this was the end. I looked up, and saw the monstrous creature, he had destroyed half the building we had been standing on. As fast as it had started, it ended. I felt a pair of arms, grasp me into an iron hold, and fly me down to safety. I looked back, and cried in relief. Angemon.
“That’s it.” Angemon shouted in fury. “You attacked innocent people, you destroyed our city, and you almost killed my partner. I will stand for this no longer!” Before I could protest, Angemon had flown towards the monster, careful to avoid its eye. “Hand of Fate!” he cried, I could see the energy surround his fist, as he shot the beam of Holy Energy towards the monster’s head. I saw it hit, with amazing precision, but all it seemed to do was make the creature even angrier. The giant lizard looking thing, swung his tail around, but Angemon was faster, dodging and launched another “Hand of Fate!” to no avail.
I watched in horror as the scene unfolded in front of my very eyes. Angemon would fire attack after attack at this monster, but the only thing it did was wear out Angemon, and anger the thing. The creature breathed in, and shot a jet of fire at my partner, who dodged as the flames hit a few cars. “Angemon! Change your tactic,” I cried out as I pointed towards a few cars on fire, and abandoned tanks. He nodded, knowing what I was referring to. He spun around, rapidly, and then cried out “Omni Typhoon!” the whirlwind picked up the vehicles. I could see him hitting the vehicles with his Angel Rod, like a baseball bat. The vehicles hit, exploded, and the creature finally roared in pain.
“Yes!” I cried out, but little did I know this wasn’t a reason to celebrate right now. The beast hit Angemon, and I watched in horror as he crashed into the street and slid fifteen feet away from me. I closed my eyes, and I felt the tears flood down my face. No … This can’t be happening … NO!!! “ANGEMON!” I screamed at the top of my lungs. I saw the creature look at us, I felt it breathe in deeply, and I knew what would be coming next. I closed my eyes, and a bright white light covered me.
So, this is how it was to die. It wasn’t too bad, at least the pain from the fire didn’t last too long. I opened my eyes, hoping to see my mother once again, but I was wrong. I wasn’t dead. I was still alive, and Angemon was standing in front of me once again, protecting me. But it wasn’t Angemon, well, not entirely.
He … digivolved … again! He had some sort of purple energy shield on his left arm, which expanded, the flames were re-directed. We were safe. For now. “Ange…mon?” I called out ambivalently, uncertain as to how he would react. “Well, in a way yes.” His deep voice replied, but if you thought Angemon was cool, I am ten times better. I am MagnaAngemon.” His sense of humor proved it was my partner still. I couldn’t help but smile, as I hugged him from behind. “Thank you.” I felt fresh tears stream down my face. “This is the second time you saved me, today.”
“Then let’s make it the last time, and finish this guy off!” MagnaAngemon said, as he drew a purplish looking sword from his right hand. All I could do was just nod at his confidence. “Go get him!” I said with a soft smile creeping onto my face. “Excali-burst!” MagnaAngemon shouted, as he slashed the air. Purple projectiles flew at the creature, slamming into him. The shrieks echoed around us, shattering glass from the windows of the nearby buildings, I felt a few shards scrape against my face. The creature started charging towards us.
MagnaAngemon was a blur of white and purple. He would dodge the hits from the monster, while landing in a few lacerations himself. Finally, we were winning… sort of. MagnaAngemon followed his “Excali-Burst!” attacks with a “Shield Counter”, to deflect the fire, then would rush in, and land a few hits with his “Excalibur” blade. The creature would thrash around, hitting nothing but air, and buildings. I cringed, thinking about the amount of damage being done, and hoping that no one was still inside. I could tell MagnaAngemon was not making much progress on his own. We needed help. I looked around, and noticed, the buildings and streets were all empty, and we were the only ones here. We had to do something drastic. I didn’t like the idea, but it was the only one we had.
“MagnaAngemon!” I pointed at the buildings, they were crumbling. I saw him glance at me, nod his head and smile. He flew as fast as he could, and I watched, torn between amusement and the brutality of this plan. He crashed through the buildings, surrounding the monster. After he flew out of the last one, he flew up to face height of the creature, and uttered one word. “Timber.” The buildings crashed down, crushing the creature into a mound of metal and concrete. I cheered as I ran towards MagnaAngemon.
“Gate of Destiny!” I saw MagnaAngemon draw a circle, and I watched in amazement as it slowly became a glowing portal, sucking everything but him and I in it. I stood beside my partner, smiling at him. I knew he could do it. I just had to look on the bright side. I turned around, and to my surprise I saw the creature bust out of his concrete and metal jail, whipping his tail at us. MagnaAngemon tried to deflect it, but he was too late, and I watched in horror as he flew into me, knocking us both back into the gate. To make matters worse, de-digivolved back into Patamon. The gate was closing, and we were stuck on the wrong side. And then, we fell.
