My heart was pounding so loudly against my chest. The fear swirled in the pit of my stomach. I closed my eyes, and began to play. It was a soft, haunting melody, full of emotion. I opened my eyes to survey the crowd, they were quiet, enraptured by the song. My silver hair flowed around me angelically, my hands dancing across my violin. I felt the rhythm building up, deep inside of me. I felt the energy of the music flowing, and before I knew it, the song was over. The cheers of the crowd filled my ears.
Then the cheers started to get louder, and louder, as if it were an annoying buzzing sound. I opened my eyes, and sunlight filled my room. Oh. I guess it was buzzing after all. My alarm anyway. I sighed, and turned it off, snuggling further back into the blankets, finding Patamon curled up against me. I rubbed my hand against his head. “Come on sleepy, we need to get going.” I yawned, as I got out of bed. He looked at me, with one eye open, and groggily, asked for five more minutes. I just laughed, as this was our routine. I grabbed my robe and a towel and headed into the bathroom. Twenty-five minutes later, I was showered, dressed, and even had my hair done.
Patamon was still in bed. Typical. How do you wake up a sleepy digimon? Easy, if you know the right way. I waked back into my room, with a tray in my hands. With one word, Patamon’s eyes snapped open and he flew towards me happily. That word, “Breakfast!” I watched in amusement as we shared our breakfast. Pancakes and eggs, toast and jam, coffee (for me) and milk (for Patamon) I even had a small bowl of fresh fruit and some bacon.
I watched in amusement, as he ate a bit of everything, and really enjoyed the bacon. I resisted the urge to joke about cannibalism. I didn’t want another lecture on how he wasn’t a pig. Well, even if he wasn’t one, he still ate like one, but I loved it all the same. Patamon looked up at me, with pieces of fruit stained to his mouth, his eyes narrowed. “Suki, I’m not a—“ I quickly grabbed a napkin and started to wipe off his mouth. “I know, but I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I smiled as he grumpily flew onto my head. “So, what do you want to do today?” I asked him.
“Can we go to the park? I really want to see the birds again!” Patamon squealed. “They are so friendly, last time, they wanted to play tag! But, I could never catch them!” I, again, resisted the urge to tell him that birds on Earth didn’t really play tag, let alone they weren’t playing they were running from him. I just nodded and said “Yeah, and maybe we can go to that small meadow, where we can watch the clouds!” Within record breaking time, we were ready to go, and on our way to the park.
The best thing about the meadow, it was really secluded, so rarely people knew it was here. The only reason I knew it was here, was because my mother showed it to me once. She told me it was where she had her first date with my father. I sighed, and rolled over on the blanket I had packed, along with the picnic lunch that Patamon was nibbling on. I could feel the sun, warm against my skin, and a light breeze blowing my hair as I sat up. “Hey pal.” I looked over to Patamon. “Do you think we should get going?”
Patamon nodded, and as I started to pack my bags, the sky darkened immediately. In seconds Patamon was by my side, and I looked up. It was about thirty feet above us, a circular gate opened, and two beings fell out of it. “Look out!” Patamon cried, as he tackled me out of the way. “What was that?” Well, that question was a bit obvious, but I couldn’t help myself. I stood up and brushed myself off.
I saw the pale skin, the silvery hair. It wasn’t possible. How could she be here? But the word still fell out of my mouth. “Mom..?” Patamon gasped, he knew my mother was dead. It was one of the first things we bonded over. Then I realized, that wasn’t why he was gasping. It was a far stretch, but did my mother have a Patamon too? Or was this…
“No way” we, Patamon and I, said at the same time. I moved over to the girl, and rolled her over. It wasn’t my mother. It was me, covered in dust and blood, and this was Patamon, a bit more damaged than MY Patamon, but still, it was Patamon. I could tell! I rolled him into my arms “Patamon?” His eyes started to flutter open, and he smiled and nudged deeper into me. He opened his eyes, and looked at me, then her … or I guess the second me. All he said was two words. “Aww crap.” Yep, that pretty much summed it up.
The other me started to wake up. “Mitsuko,” the second, the damaged, Patamon said “Don’t freak out but…” It was too late, she opened her eyes, and upon seeing me, well herself, and two Patamon’s she did what any rational Mitsuko would do. Scream. “What happened?!” She called to her Patamon. “What did you do?” Patamon shrugged, and winced in pain. “We fell into the Gate, and since we weren’t evil, we were just deposited somewhere to make sure our future didn’t happen again.” The other Mitsuko just nodded her head. “It’s just a theory, but it makes sense.” She agreed.
“I’m glad that something is making sense to one of us.” I blurted out sarcastically. The other Mitsuko giggled, as I apologized for my outburst. I started fishing out a first aid kit, and was working on her Patamon’s injuries as she filled me in about the battle with a giant lizard. I was cleaning the scratches on my … her face as she finished her tale. “And then we fell through the Gate of Destiny, and landed here.” By the end, my eyes were filled with tears, spilling over at all the pain, devastation, and loss caused. “When does this happen?” I couldn’t help but ask. “Well, it was June 11th when I fell through the gate.” She replied. “That’s in twenty four hours.” My voice felt thick, I couldn’t let this happen again. Not that level of destruction.
That night, for once, I was glad my Father was not coming home. How was I going to explain two of me? We set up a mini bed area for both Patamons, since there wouldn’t be enough room for both of us, and our digimon in my … our bed. This time travel thing, was really confusing. I also couldn’t risk Dad finding one of us out on the couch, carrying us to bed, and finding the other. That wouldn’t end well either. So, Patamon and Patamon slept on a bed of pillows, with a few snacks surrounding them, as well as a thick blanket. My future counterpart and I, however, stayed up, discussing a battle strategy. She told me about where it had surfaced, and the best place to trap it, to prevent colossal damages.
Soon the sun was rising, and our day was about to begin. I dressed in a pair of shorts and a short sleeved shirt, the other me, wore a pair of clothes from her bag, the exact same outfit. Her Patamon, was still wearing the bandages from last night. After a quick breakfast, and a discussion of battle strategy, we were on our way to the bay. I felt silly, sitting there, with my bag, waiting for my future self to arrive. I checked my digivice, the creature would be here any moment. I saw a flash of silver, and knew she was in position. Before I knew what was going on, the whole bay was rocking violently.
I jumped to my feet a people started running, screaming for help. This monster was terrible. Large, reptilian, and dark as night. It smelled like a rotting tide pool, my hand flew up to my mouth. How could we do this? “Patamon?” I asked nervously “Are you ready?” He was already flying by my side as I shouted “Digi-Armor Energize!” I watched in amazement as he transformed. “Patamon digivolve to… Pegasusmon, flying hope!” I climbed onto his back, and we were off, flying towards the monster.
“Equus Beam!” Pegasusmon shouted, as he hit the creature full force on the forehead. The beam just annoyed the creature, but that is what we wanted. It started to breathe in, and I remembered the future Mitsuko’s warning. “Block it quick, Pegasusmon!” I called out, as he shouted “Golden Shield!” covering us in an impenetrable shield. I could feel the heat coming from the flames, but they weren’t going to cook our goose!
“Excali-burst!” I cried in happiness as the other me’s MagnaAngemon sent an array of attacks hurtling towards the monster. It was one thing to battle it alone, but two heads, or in this case four, are better than one! Pegasusmon flew me towards the abandoned boat wharf, where Future-Mitsuko (or was she present Mitsuko since we were in her time now) awaited. “Perfect timing” She called to me, as I slid off of Pegasusmon’s back. He reverted back to Patamon, and then his form was changing yet again. “Patamon digivolve to… Angemon. Angemon digivolve to… MagnaAngemon!” I was impressed, he was able to hit ultimate for the first time. But I guess it was easier, since he had already done it once before, in a way.
I watched, in agony, as both MagnaAngemon’s battled this beast. The battle raged on for what seemed like an eternity. Although logically it must have been a half hour. The angels scored what hits they could, while sustaining a few hits of their own. I winced every time I saw one if them take a particularly nasty hit. The angels were working together, one would cause a distraction, and the other would swoop in, and score a hit. The monster was learning fast however, he would spew fire at the angel that was distracting him, while flailing his body around, to attack the other angel. The creature was getting better, he was blocking their hits now, and even managed to hit one MagnaAngemon from the sky and into the water, with a large splash. MagnaAngemon shook his head, as I watched him speed off back towards the monster.
The reptilian creature did not look happy, yet continued to fight both angels with ease, as he slammed his tail into both of them. “Come on … come on!” I felt my tears spilling onto my cheeks, as the Other Mitsuko grabbed my hand. “We have to win. We just have to. For you, for me, for all of Tokyo!” I gripped my digivice even harder. “WE CAN DO THIS!” Before I knew what was happening, two bright balls of light erupted within my view, one was from MagnaAngemon, my MagnaAngemon. The way I knew, was because the second ball of light, was coming from my Digivice!
“MagnaAngemon digivolve to… Seraphimon!” I stared in awe at this new angel. Blue and gold, shining like the sun itself. I could feel the goodness radiating off of him, even from here. Round two was about to begin, and something told me the creature wasn’t going to like it. MagnaAngemon kept attacking with his Excali-burst attack, while Seraphimon was simply just … glowing. I then saw what he was doing, He was purifying the area, creating a “Holy Aura!” he called out, his voice ringing like a thousand church bells. The reptile roared, but couldn’t move, as a bright golden white aura enveloped the creature. This wasn't part of our original plan, but this totally helped us out, since the creature was now stuck. MagnaAngemon was standing opposite of Seraphimon, we were finally in position.
Seraphimon nodded his head as he de-digivolved back into MagnaAngemon, and both of them worked together flying in a semi circle above the frozen creatures head. Their swords connecting to where the other's had left the trail, creating a Mega Gate of Destiny. I watched in triumph, as the creature screamed. The gate opening above him, sucking him up towards the unknown. I knew we could have used Seraphimon to destroy the creature, but I would rather try to keep our hands clean of all blood. I knew that we sealed him somewhere, hopefully with no escape, but it meant that we won, without too much bloodshed. I looked across the water, and could see a few boat houses, boats and docks had been destroyed in the fight. I hated seeing the destruction, but was glad it wasn't as bad as it could have been.
Our angels were finally safe, flying towards us, reverting back into Patamons again. I hugged my little guy tighter than ever. He saved me, us … the whole city. “Good job.” I whispered into his ear, as silent tears ran down my face. I looked over to the Other Mitsuko to see that she was staring at a gateway behind her. “You better go, maybe your future will be better.” I said confidently. She nodded, and hugged me, and rushed into the gate with her partner. I watched the gate disintegrate into nothingness, and turned back to my partner. MY Patamon, and whispered “I love you,” into his ear, as we started to head home.
