"Is This My Future?"
The year 2020, in the Digital World
The year 2020, in the Digital World
"Come again?" John watched the DemiDevimon inquisitively while the furry dark-blue Digimon flapped his wings in order to hover in place at the human's eye level. John was holding onto a white egg with jagged red stripes. "You want your partner to be stronger, don't ya?" The DemiDevimon repeated. He was obviously pitching something, but John wasn't sure what. He quirked a brow at the winged demon-like Digimon. "What's your catch?" He pried. There was a glint in the DemiDevimon's eye. "No catch at all! I think you're a pretty neat human, and I wanna help ya! So, what do you say?"
Present Day
Saturday. The beginning of a new weekend in Tokyo. The hours of daybreak were now giving way to a gorgeous red sun careening upward in the East. It was this wondrous sight that helped Japan receive it's namesake, "the Land of the Rising Sun." Through the dark blue loosely woven polyester voile curtains that hung above his bedroom window, the sunlight started to trickle into the room, which shone down onto John and Casimeir as they lie in bed under the black comforter, and grey bed sheets.
Once the daylight sparkled onto John's eyelids, he stirred, waking from the forty winks he was experiencing. John was now sitting upright, and from there, he rubbed his eyes, stretched his arms out, and yawned. His Agumon, Casimeir, roused as well. he imitated John's actions, which John thought was extremely adorable. "Morning, buddy." John murmured sleepily. Casimeir gave a drowsy smile in response. "Good morning. Sleep well?" John hummed affirmatively. It was time to begin the morning routine.
In the bathroom, John and Cas were taking care of their oral hygienic needs. This would include brushing their teeth, flossing, and then finalizing the process by swishing their mouths out with mouthwash. John never really knew if Digimon had a concept of oral hygiene, or if they even required it, since they were beings made of data. But, Casimeir enjoyed doing it, so John wasn't about to question his habits.
After having their breakfast of ramen noodles, the pair left the apartment complex to spend the day outside. John and Casimeir had devised a plan to both be outdoors at the same time and not have to worry about the local denizens of the city freaking out over a walking, talking yellow dinosaur. As John walked down the sidewalk, he kept his Agumon sitting on top of his shoulders in order to have the guise of a stuffed toy.
When the pair had walked into the elevator that happened to be waiting for them, John pressed the circular button that would make the elevator descend to the ground floor. However, as the two were on their way down, John felt a warm sensation emanating from the Digivice that was clasped to his belt. "Well, that's weird." He went and reached for the device, but as soon as he began to grasp onto hit, he felt a sudden unexplained bout of sorrow. Once he unclasped it from his belt, he observed the screen, which displayed the following words: LAST HOPE!
"Why...Why does it feel like the Digivice has a great sadness coming from it?" Casimeir's tiny ears twitched at this. "Huh? What do you mean, John?" A salty tear gathered at the corner of John's right eye, and then gallantly slid down his cheek, afore dripping onto the tiled floor in a splatter. 'Why am I feeling so emotional?' John thought to himself. 'What does this mean, Last Hope?' Yet before any more thoughts could race through his mind, the Digivice began to burn, and a stream of light blue data surrounded both John and his Agumon from the screen. Within seconds, the two were swallowed up, and disappeared.
John couldn't believe his eyes. His heart was racing from the adrenaline rush he was experiencing. He and his partner were currently flying through a swirling, cloudy blue vortex. The first thing that came to mind was how much this reminded him of one of his top favorite science-fiction series about an alien that traveled through Time and Space in a blue London Police Box. The feeling of sadness was now gone, but it was replaced by a combination of awe, excitement, and uncertainty.
"Where is this taking us?" John shouted to his Agumon partner, whose claw he was holding onto desperately. "I don't know!" Casimeir responded at an equally loud volume. "I've never experienced this sort of thing before! But I think I see a light at the end of the vortex!" Sure enough, a bright light was fast-approaching. It was too powerful to look head-on. So, instead of permanently destroying their retinas, John and Casimeir covered their eyes. There was no telling what was bound to happen, or where the two were bound to end up.
John and his Agumon opened their eyes to a beautiful blue sky. Both were lying on their backs, in a grassy field. The green blades of grass tickled John's exposed skin rather gently, but felt wonderfully soft. But something seemed...Off. John could have swore that the distinctive scent of smoke penetrated his nostrils. He sat upright by using his hands to support his weight. He looked to his left, then his right. The vast variety of tropical fauna certainly showed no signs of being burned, so a forest fire was out of the question.
"John..." Casimeir's voice caused John to turn to his right. Casimeir was standing, facing the opposite direction of the treeline. His expression was dripping with anguish. The Agumon lifted his left claw, pointing toward the direction he was looking toward. "Look." John now stood up as well. Nevertheless, he instantly regretted his decision of doing so as soon as he turned round. His eyes were witnessing a horrific scene that felt like it came right out of a war film.
Before John and his Agumon were the burning remains of what appeared to be a village. Black smoke billowed above the Hellscape, poisoning the sky. Bright fire with mixtures of red and yellow flames danced wickedly as it engulfed the remains of the village. The menacing blaze crackled and snapped as all matter was burned to a crisp within it's reach. "Who..Who did this?" Casimeir muttered. "All of those innocent Digimon...Dead."
As if fate chose to grant the yellow Digimon's pleas for an answer, two silhouettes could now be seen among the hellish inferno. One was the size of a human. The other was much larger, and dinosaur in resemblance. How they were untouched by the fire, John could not comprehend. It was as if the fire was afraid of these beings whilst they walked toward John and Casimeir's direction unscathed.
John clenched his fists as he mentally prepared himself for a potential battle. But he did not expect to witness who was approaching. It was a human about his side, wearing a black hoodie that covered up his features in shadow. But behind him was a Greymon. Not a regular Greymon, mind you, but one that was colored in shades of black and dark blue. The mysterious pair walked nonchalantly toward John and his Agumon, but halted in their tracks a good seven yards away. While the human remained silent, the BlackGreymon created a rumbling growl to intimidate the ones in his way.
"Are you responsible for this?" John asked in a demanding tone of voice. Upon closer inspection, the human's eyes seemed to be glowing a soft red. "So what if we are?" The mysterious man responded. The voice sounded familiar to John, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. He gritted his teeth in slight frustration. "Don't be coy. Did you do this to the village?" The opposing man remained quiet for a moment, before deciding to respond. "They had it coming."
John could now feel his heart racing. However, before he could react, the man made a gesture toward him. "Break them." The BlackGreymon roared menacingly. The man's digivice lit up with a red light, and his Digimon was surrounded by black data. His outline changed, revealing a WarGreymon with black coloration. Naturally, it was BlackWarGreymon. The BlackWarGreymon rocketed toward Casimeir and John. "Mega Claw!" His blackened gauntlets were surrounded by red energy, and he aimed to strike at where John and his Agumon stood.
Casimeir was surrounded by the normal light blue data that surrounded him in times of evolving. "Agumon! Warp Digivolve to..." The silhouette grew in size, and the data dispersed, revealing WarGreymon. "WarGreymon!" Without wasting a moment, he hopped in front of John, removed the shield sections mounted on his back, and slammed them together before him, putting the shield together. "Brave Shield!" He thankfully reacted quick enough. BlackWarGreymon's right gauntlet. The red energy dispersed and sparks flew with the contact. "You will not lay a finger on my friend!"
Although Casimeir originally thought he had the upper-hand, his Virus-counterpart reared his second gauntlet back, and punched the shield hard, causing it to break into two down the middle. "What?" Before getting a chance to retaliate, his opponent slashed once again with the opposite claw. The BlackWarGreymon's attack sliced through Casimeir's armor. "Ngaaah!" Blood spurted from the newly inflicted wound.
In retaliation, Casimeir swiped his own gauntlet at his foe. But what resulted could only be described as unbelievable. The BlackWarGreymon blocked the strike. Both gauntlets collided with such force, that both of the Digimon's gauntlets shattered on impact. Before another attack could be made, the Virus-type Digimon lunched forward and grasped Casimeir's neck with great strength, lifting him into the air. Casimeir was now choking, struggling against the tightening grip around his windpipe.
"Cas!" John cried out in desperation. He glared over toward the mystery man, anger filling his eyes. "You! Stop this!" In a rage, he ran as fast as he could over to the man. He managed to tackle the man to the ground, and began to wail on him. However, the man easily shoved John off of him, and hit him hard in the stomach. "Whaugh!" John coughed while the wind was knocked off of him. Mimicking his Digimon, the man grabbed John by the throat as if he was a mirror. Now that John had a good look at the man, he was frozen in shock. The man...Looked exactly like him!
The man's free was surrounded by black data, and he plunged that very hand into John's chest. A great burning sensation overcame John's chest which was now slowly beginning to spread. "What...What is this? Why are you me?!" The other John scoffed. "I forgot how daft I was back then. Don't you get it? You are my past self. What you're experiencing now is the corrupted data that has made me stronger, just as it did to Casimeir."
John couldn't believe his ears. "Why are you doing this? What happened to you?" His voice was strained by future John's grasp. Meanwhile, the BlackWarGreymon's hand was surrounded by the same corrupted data. He was rapidly draining Casimeir's strength. This resulted in Casimeir reverting back into Agumon, now in a weakened state. The virus Digimon did not hesitate in tossing the Agumon to the side.
"Because!" John's future self shouted. "I lost Casimeir once and I vowed that I will never lose him again, no matter the cost! All of those Goblimon are the same. When one killed Casimeir, I took my revenge!" John coughed, feeling the corruption beginning to take hold. "You don't need to have special data to make your Digimon stronger...It's the bond that gives them strength!" The future John gritted his teeth in anger. "Shut up!" With that, he threw John as hard as he could over to where Agumon was recovering.

With that, he threw John as hard as he could over to where Agumon was recovering.
John landed hard against his Agumon. Both Casimeir and John cried out in agony upon impact. "Cas...I'm sorry." John uttered. He could feel the corruption continue to spread. He positioned himself to hold Agumon in his arms. "Please...don't die on me...You mean everything to me, Cas." He squeezed his eyes shut as his tears dripped onto his partner. But, with all hope seeming lost, John's Digivice's screen shone brightly in a golden light. Golden data commenced to appear on John's chest. The bright energy then spread over both John's and Casimeir's bodies. Agumon's eyes opened as a new fire burned within him. "Agumon! Biomerge to...!"
The duo's bodies merged into one being. The result revealed a humanoid Digimon greatly resembling WarGreymon. However, the Dramon Killer gauntlets were replaced by smaller round gauntlets that exposed the new Digimon's hands. Golden metal horns swept backward from the helmet on his head, and he carried a large thri-bladed sword. "VictoryGreymon!" The new Digimon looked down to his hands. he was bewildered at what he became. But not wanting to remain distracted, VictoryGreymon glared at the BlackWarGreymon with his cool blue eyes.
Future John was now flabbergasted. "What the hell?! How is this happening? I haven't even been able to achieve that form! Explain what's going on, now!" VictoryGreymon stepped forward. "I am VictoryGreymon. While you and your partner became tainted with corrupted data, I was created due to the extraordinary compassion, love, and faith that John had for Casimeir." He brandished his gigantic sword, dubbed the Dramon Breaker. "I will end this fight here and now!"
Future John wasn't going to have any of this. "You're nothing special! Casimeir! Finish them off! Kill two birds with one stone!" BlackWarGreymon grunted, and began to spin at tremendous speeds. "Black Tornado!" He was surrounded by a twister that was black in color. Within seconds, the tornado honed in on VictoryGreymon. But reacting quickly, the biomerged Digimon swung his sword upward in a deflective maneuver. "Victory Charge!" The blades connected with the tornado, thus deflecting it backward. The blow resulted in BlackWarGreymon's attack to cancel out.
BlackWarGreymon crashed into the ground, but was not down for the count! He charged at VictoryGreymon, who followed suit, meeting the Virus Digimon halfway. VictoryGreymon inaugurated a volley of slashes and swipes with his Dramon Breaker which lasted for an entire minute. While the BlackWarGreymon managed to block and dodge some of the blows at first, he soon succumbed to the relentless onslaught. Cuts and scratches ran deep in the Digimon's flesh while his armor was taking massive damage. Not wanting to let up, VictoryGreymon gave one final swing with his sword.
The BlackWarGreymon was knocked aback once again. He roared in anger, refusing to be bested. once he flew up into the air, he gathered energy in the form of a dark red ball , lifted it above his head as it grew, and then threw it toward VictoryGreymon. "Terra Destroyer!" In retaliation, VictoryGreymon united the shells on his back in front of him while rocketing toward the energy ball.
"Victory Shield!" As the attack connected with the shield, VictoryGreymon deflected the attack to the side, and grasped his sword with both hands. His momentum carried him close to BlackWarGreymon. "I will end your suffering! Dramon Breaker!" Using all of the might that he could muster, VictoryGreymon swung his gigantic sword at his foe. Instead of simply slashing him, the blade caused the BlackWarGreymon to disintegrate in a cloud of data, screaming in defiance as he did.
Future John fell to his knees just as VictoryGreymon landed before him. "No! Casimeir!" He felt utterly helpless and defeated. He furiously punched the ground, weeping over the loss of his Digimon. "I lost him again! This wasn't supposed to happen!" VictoryGreymon was once more surrounded by the gold data, and became two beings again. John and his Agumon looked at John's future self in sympathy. John and Casimeir walked toward him.
"John, it's okay. You aren't always going to win battles. And sometimes, your Digimon will be reverted back to an egg. But that doesn't make it okay to corrupt your partner. If anything, that's the time that you strive harder to become stronger together. Your partner becomes a part of you when you form that special bond." John's future self was now disheartened, finally realizing what he had become. "My god...I...What have I done?" Casimeir and John now knelt down before the opposite John.
"I finally understand why I was pulled through Time. I was brought here so that I could see what my future holds so that I cannot make the same mistake you did. Don't worry. I will make sure this never comes to pass." The other John's corruption now faded away. He sighed in a raspy breath, and stood, taking his past self into a tight hug. "Thank you." He whispered. The two separated now as John and Casimeir were surrounded by the light blue data that originally brought them to the future. And just as before, the two dissipated into nothingness.
EPILOGUE
The future version of John had expected himself to fade away as the timeline was bound to change. However, instead of disappearing into the void, he was caught by surprise when his Digimon's egg appeared into his hands. John turned around, and saw that the Goblimon village he destroyed was no longer ablaze. Rather, it was back to the way it was. The crisis in John's timeline was averted.Author's Note: Posts, please
