...And I just need to rule it [Elliot & Isaac, Kouhei]

The Digital World. It was hard to believe this was the Digital World. This bustling metropolis under a bright circuit-patterned sky couldn't possibly be in the same world as the dark, awful wasteland Kouhei had spent three years struggling to survive. Yet the Black Queen assured him it was true, this little point of brightness was in fact a dot on the map far from the Hell he had lived through through. And why hadn't she told him this was here? Why hadn't she led him to this safe bastion of civilization?
Because it is a lie, she explained. Digimon here try so hard to live like you humans they model their very world after yours. We are not human, Kouhei. Ours is a world that exists in a state of struggle and violence and power. Pretending any less makes you weak, defenseless and an easy target. You will not be prey, Kouhei. You will be predator.
Kouhei sighed, a lone human figure standing in one of Terminus City's busier squares as digimon went by all around him. They gave him a wide berth; perhaps they sensed the Black Queen? Or maybe they saw the way he looked at them. Vicious, selfish little beasts, these digimon. He didn't want to be here, surrounded by these monsters. But he needed time to think. Time to plan. And time to talk with the Black Queen. They'd come too close to the Evans, Scout in particular, noticing that Kouhei wasn't alone. He wasn't ever alone, anymore.
And yet... he was. Always.

Speaking of people who presently weren't human, but very much wanted to be, Elliot and Isaac had quite the dilemma. Home was an entire dimension away, and if they didn't want their mother to start panicking they'd have to get back before sundown. Previously, they tried jumping in place until they ended up reaching the other end of the Shibuya River portal, but all that accomplished was making themselves look like total idiots. Eventually they remembered that Tomomi and Paige mentioned something about a train station, and with that bit of advice they began making their way to Terminus City.
It was a long, exhausting trek, but eventually they made it to the city. Unfortunately, that was the easy part. Now they had to navigate through some of the densest crowds in the Digital World in hopes of getting to the Trailmon Terminal without getting lost. At least with human crowds, it was pretty easy to see where you were going. Upon entering Terminus, Elliot and Isaac found their view completely blocked by a giant mess of monsters in different shapes, sizes, and colors. Sometimes the smell of a Numemon peeking out through a dumpster was rancid enough to send them running onto a different road just to avoid it. Sometimes they found themselves trying to get around a huge, slow Monochromon that was taking up an entire sidewalk by itself. No matter the specifics, navigating the city was nigh-impossible.
They tried to evaluate the area around them. Monkey, beetle, fire spirit, human, runaway construction equipment, lio- Wait, human? This could be the chance they were waiting for! Surely, another human could help them find their way back! The VictoryImpmon made a frantic dash toward the sighing human, waving its boxing glove covered hand as if desperately trying to get his attention.
"Excuse me! Excuse me, could you please help us?"

Kouhei reacted instantly to VictoryImpmon's enthusiastic approach. His head whipped around and his eyes, strangely cold, fixed on the running digimon. His hand was already dipping into the pocket of the cargo pants Scout had lent him. He had a black and grey D-tector out in an instant, as a ring of brightly-glowing digicode sprang up from his opposite wrist. "Submit: Fraction Evolution!" He scanned his D-tector across the ring of code, causing it to spiral around him in a glowing bubble that shifted as the form within grew broader, thick armor plates of black metal wrapping around him. When the digicode dispersed SkullKnightmon stood wrapped in his dark cloak regarding the running digimon with wary, suspicious eyes. Snapping an arm that ended in a wicked red lance out to his side, SkullKnightmon threw his cloak out behind him with a shout of "Black to the Beginning!" He spun on his heel, causing the cloak to flare around him and obscure his form. As he completed the turn, he was simply... gone.
Not gone. He was behind VictoryImpmon now, appearing right in the space the Sunderland boys had occupied a split-second ago. One lance-arm swept low in an attempt to trip the digimon, while the other remained poised to stab down. He didn't like being charged by unfamiliar digimon. Any digimon, really. Violent beasts.
"What do you want with me," he demanded coldly in a voice that echoed deep from within the metallic body. Glowing yellow eyes studied the interloper with cautious paranoia and a hint of violence. "Answer quickly, digimon. I do not take well to sneak attacks."

The VictoryImpmon's eyes widened with joy as the human changed into a terrifying black knight before its very eyes. Normally, seeing this sort of transformation would be the opposite of a good thing. In this case, though, it meant they found someone who understood their predicament! Maybe if they talked to him, they'd be able to find out more about these strange Digital forms their bodies were forced into. Then they could be one step closer to finding a way out of them, or at least being able to control them better. Truly this kind, gentle, helpful knight was going to be the answer to all of their problems.
One quick sweep later, and they found themselves having a high-stakes staring contest with the horrific skull on the knight's breastplate. Having a lance the size of their entire body ominously hovering over them certainly didn't help matters. Poor Elliot basically froze up in terror, leaving Isaac in control of the fusion.
"What the hell, man? You are the only one attacking here!"
A few desperate pleas from Elliot to tone things down calmed Isaac somewhat. After all, in this position, they sure as heck weren't in a good position to be making demands. Still, the indignity of the situation really wasn't winning Isaac over. Rolling the VictoryImpmon's eyes, he tried to start things off again on a less hostile foot.
"Look, we do not want to start anything," he explained. "We are just looking for the train station. As you are human, we figured you would know where to go."

"What makes you think I would allow a digimon to invade our world to begin with?" The lance tip might have dipped a fraction of an inch closer to VictoryImpmon's jugular. Do it. They dared attempt approach the Black Queen. Finish them! SkullKnightmon reared back a little, his weapon pulling back as he seemingly prepared to strike. "Lance Ro-" No. Halting suddenly, SkullKnightmon cocked his round-helmeted head to one side, staring through the prone digimon as he seemed to consider them. Or maybe he was listening, but listening to what? Look closer, Kouhei. That is no digimon. That is a sundered soul, a twin much as digimon are sometimes formed.
That is a potential ally, and that you can use. Dominance is not always bought with mailed fist. Use the open palm, and bring another into my fold.
There were several long moments of tense silence, the threat of painful violence only as far away as the wicked point of that crimson lance. Finally, after a lengthy pause SkullKnightmon's glowing yellow eyes refocused on his quarry. "As you wish," he murmured as he took a step back and lowered his weapons. "Tell me what you are, digimon, and your business in the human world. We shall see what unfolds from there. I promise no more."

Thank goodness for mercy. Elliot and Isaac barely avoided the most ignoble of fates; being stabbed to death while cohabiting the body of a tiny, blue muppet dragon. Isaac sighed in relief as the amalgamated Digimon stood back up. Elliot was still a little too shell-shocked from their ensuing near death experience to come out and talk. That's okay. It would make diplomacy a lot easier when only one of them was speaking at a time.
Unfortunately, this black knight had their number. Judging by the way he spoke, Isaac figured trying to hide anything from him would be a complete folly. It was a shame, too, because this was a really embarrassing situation to have to explain. It was definitely less embarrassing than getting stabbed, though, so he figured he'd cough up the information that the knight sought.
"Okay, okay. This is all going to get really weird, so I just need you to follow me here. I am a human. My brother is also a human. We picked up these weird artifacts, and got turned into this thing." The VictoryImpmon motioned to itself for emphasis. "We are kind of sick and tired of being stuck in the same body, especially when that body is not even ours, and we just want to get back to the human world so we could undo it and forget all about this.
It has been a long day, okay?"
It was almost as exasperating recounting the tale as it was living through it. Still, Isaac hoped if the black knight knew of their intentions, he'd ease up and show them the way home. Everybody in their life had one bad day they could just sympathize with, right?

SkullKnightmon cocked his head, listening. He regarded VictoryImpmon for several tense seconds after the explanation, then nodded the metallic dome that served as his head. "All right," his voice echoed from the armor. "You're a wielder. Wielders, you say. Then you must have a D-tector. Search for it, it should come to hand." The knight took a few steps back, the red lances dissipating into a pair of oversized black-gauntleted hands. SkullKnightmon reached into the shadows of his cloak and retrieved his own D-tector, the black and grey device he had used to assume this form in the first place.
"Find that and you can degenerate. As well as prove the truth of your claims," he added in a cold monotone.

"Right," Isaac said, somewhat hesitantly. "Right, that is our whole problem. We have been trying that for the past hour. It just has not worked. We tried saying something, thinking really hard, running around until we are too exhausted to fight, freaking battle posing. No matter what, though, we have stayed in this form. We figured, maybe if we are Digimon in the Digital World, we can become human again in the human world." Isaac wasn't a very good liar. He hoped the exasperation in his voice would make it clear that he was being perfectly genuine.
He did comply with producing the Digivice, though. With a snap of his fingers, the VictoryImpmon generated a purple and red Digivice, the colors swirling into each other and wrapping around the smiley face on the back. For a few seconds he seemed quiet, Isaac trying to signal for Elliot to wake up and summon his own Digivice. He must have reached his brother eventually, though, because a stark white Digivice appeared in the other hand. The VictoryImpmon began scrolling through both screens, mashing buttons in confusion until something ended up appearing.
The word "IMPMON" appeared on one screen, and "VEEMON" appeared on the other. Sprite spirits? Apparently those were what they were called. "Apparently that is what we are when we are not mashed together," he said. "Ugh, I do not know. I am still trying to figure everything out around here."

"I see. So you can't prove your claims." SkullKnightmon cocked his helm to one side, staring through VictoryImpmon with the burn of his cold, yellow eyes. "Yes, that would work. I'll see for myself." Having made some decision, the stocky knight was standing next to the Sunderland boys in an instant. His gauntleted fist reached out and took a handful of their bandanna, hauling them close as they fell back and down, down down into the blackness of his cloak. "Black to the Beginning!" and everything went black and silent and cold.
When light, sound color and heat came rushing back in on them, VictoryImpmon was being tossed to the grassy plain outside of Terminus City. SkullKnightmon's boots slammed down into the dirt a few feet away, his cloak flaring a little in a soft breeze. Behind him a busy-looking structure jutted from the main city. Kouhei assumed an authoritative stance, feet spread, arms across his skull-armored chest as he peered down at the digimon he'd just teleported clear to the other side of the city.
"Behind me is the Trailmon Terminal that will take you to the human world. But you still have not proven you are human. Stand up, digimon. If you want to get on a train you will attack me first."

"Wait, wha-"
VROP! By the time the cold, stillness of death teleportation passed, Isaac found himself right back on the outskirts of Terminus City. For a brief second he groaned in frustration, wondering why this knight had it out for him so badly. First he tries to kill him, then he warps him right back to those awful Network Plains? This was shaping up to being a real tiring day, and tall dark and murderous over there wasn't doing a thing to make it easier. However, once it was explained that the train station was on the outskirts of the city, everything made a bit more sense.
Well, not entirely. Why the hell wasn't the train station actually part of the city?
He picked himself up, wondering what the SkullKnightmon was talking about. "Why would I do that? I do not even know how to control this body much," Isaac protested. "If I could fight well, would that not prove I am not human, or lost?" Gripes aside, he squeezed his eyes and tried to focus. How did he end up scaling that crater? He just thought really, really hard that he wanted to climb it, and then his body just kind of went. It wasn't very far of a distance, but it was movement at least. And right now, he just wanted to get away from SkullKnightmon. Behind him, and near the train station would be nice.
Instead, he ended up blinking forward right at the knight's chest level, staring directly at the cool yet terrifying looking skull emblem on his breastplate. Dazed and confused at his body suddenly lurching forward, he figured he might as well take advantage. He lowered his head so instead of colliding face-first with the knight, he would at least end up delivering a pretty solid headbutt. It wasn't a very strong move, nor a competently executed one, but it was a start.

If VictoryImpmon had been a little more prepared for the move, maybe thrown a little more weight behind it, it might have staggered him. Instead, the amalgam digimon clanged loudly off SkullKnightmon's heavy breastplate and bounced away with him hardly moving. "So I'm not the only one that can teleport." He paused, as if waiting for a reply. "Yes, it is promising."
Uncrossing his arms, SkullKnightmon raised a mailed fist. "I believe I have the opportunity to counterattack. Gaunt Rocket." His fist and forearm fired out from his elbow on a thin digizoid cable, careening towards VictoryImpmon in a long-distance haymaker.

Isaac may not have been great at being a Digimon, but at least he had an idea what to do in a strap. Especially when his opponent took the opportunity to loudly say that he was making a counterattack. Tensing up every muscle in the shared body in preparation, he ducked as the SkullKnightmon's fist went careening over him. Inside the back of his mind, he felt a stirring. It seemed Elliot was finally getting over his fear and starting to assert control again.
"Please, we really do not want to fight!" the amalgam protested, in the same voice but in a noticeably different tone. "Just . . . get away!"
It was the same protest as when he tried to startle off the Tankmon. Both hands thrusted out, but only the unglowed hand started to glow. From his index and middle fingers a beam of energy shot out, forming the shape of a V as it fired off toward SkullKnightmon. At this point both brothers were fighting entirely on hopes and dreams, watching as their desires to escape manifested into these strange techniques. Was this what Digimon fighting truly was? Just enacting your will onto the world around you?

SkullKnightmon shifted to the side, grabbing a corner of his cloak and wrapping it around his body to deflect the oncoming laser as his other fist retracted on its digizoid line. As planned, his cloak caught the laser and rippled under its blast; SkullKnightmon took a step forward and thrust out both fists. "Gaunt Rocket," he called out and fired both arms this time, the heavy knuckles of his gauntlets barreling at VictoryImpmon's jaw.
"Show me more," he demanded as his fists literally flew. "Tell us who you are."

That was a lot less warning. The brothers tried to jolt their shared body back in time, but they were a little bit too slow. Gauntlets made direct contact with their jaw, knocking them off of their feet with ease. However, as they went down, Elliot couldn't help but notice something peculiar about the SkullKnightmon's pronouns. Even with his limited knowledge of Japanese, something seemed off.
"We?" he asked, grunting as he picked himself off of the floor. "Are you fused as well? Who are you?"
The time for talking seemed over for the most part, though. As much as both brothers would rather be doing anything else, they knew it was primarily time for a battle. Once more the VictoryImpmon's hand extended, this time only the ungloved one. By now, past experience showed the gloved one just wasn't doing doing the trick. "Uh . . . Laser!" Isaac shouted, as another V-shaped beam shot at the SkullKnightmon.

There was a long pause while SkullKnightmon considered the question and chose his words. This one... This pair of children if it was to be believed, were rather perceptive. Mistakes like that little slip could not be tolerated. The Black Queen must be protected until she is ready. Lost in deliberation as he was, SkullKnightmon didn't pay attention to the shout that preceded VictoryImpmon's second laser. This one hit him high on the left side of his chestplate, causing the digimon to grunt and stagger back a step.
The look that flashed across his eyes was almost enough to degenerate the boys all on its own. "I am human. Like you, I have taken the ancient Spirits of powerful digimon to wield as my own. Now..." he demanded, one crimson lance appearing around his gauntlet with a flourish.
"Stop holding back. Show me who and what you are."
