Kai didn't really have more to say. He was... Rather preoccupied with his thoughts. So many what-ifs. This was... Not the first time a fluke had saved both him and a fledgling spirit user. And a fluke wasn't good enough. Both times... Rei, Alicia... They could have been killed. Because he, in his hubris, felt that he was strong enough to keep them safe, when he wasn't. When Kuro and Shiro weren't. The fact that he had come along due to the alternative being no one coming did not phase him. He wasn't good enough. He knew that. As always, he was just a step behind where he needed to be. Too weak. Too useless. Too slow.
Kai was sure that in the same situation, literally anyone he knew could have handled it better. Scout, Tomomi, Rei... Heck, he suspected that even Maia with her Rookie digimon or his brother Renji would be more useful. Why was it that Kai had been chosen as a tamer? He could name a dozen people who would do better than him. Renji was just the top of the list. And besides... Kai had a deep rooted suspicion that he hadn't been originally intended to be a Tamer. Every other tamer he knew had recieved an egg... Kuro and Shiro had not only hatched, but evolved when he met them. And he didn't even get a Digivice until a week after, when they Digivolved to Rookie. Combined with Kai's innate insecurity... He was almost certain that Kuro and Shiro were meant to be the partners of someone else.
Alicia said something... But it soon became clear she was talking to her spirit. Kuro and Shiro trailed behind, bantering. Well, Shiro was bantering. Kuro just seemed ready to get out of the sand. Or maybe it was out of this form. Kai... Wasn't very good at reading her. He could only read Shiro, since the white Digimon was rather akin to an open book. And right now, he was like a little kid with a big new toy: Wings. The white Digimon happily took off from the ground, flying circles around the humans.
"Err... Why are we walking?" Kai mused aloud... But it was mostly to take his mind off his obvious lack of a true bond with his partners.
