The Dutchmon once again rested in the Whitewater docks, a lean schooner of polished driftwood, gold and brass trim and feather-patterned scales. Captain Datamon was back on board with a new venture; Ren Campbell had agreed to assist. It seemed fair, since his last adventure had left the Rusty Salvager on the bottom of the sea. Still, the treasure they'd found must have made up for it.. But heck, he could never say no to a good adventure. And in fact Grandpa's notes had held some relevant information... so this could end up being a very profitable venture.
The goal was a small island off any usual lanes of travel out in the Macro Ocean. Datamon had learned of several rare digizoid deposits in some ruins there. He expected they could find a trove of useful knowledge and data, and that he could turn to a profit. They were taking on supplies at the minute, and Datamon had sent word out for some extra help, just in case. They were waiting on any takers to arrive, then they would set out on this little expedition. Should be fun, right?
"Who are you bringing on board my ship anyway," Ren asked, walking up to stand beside Datamon as he looked over some crates the Monmon had brought on board. "You will see. Helpful sorts," was the terribly illuminating answer.
HELP WANTED. Chance for adventure. Exploration. Light labor, archaeology, linguistics, history knowledge a plus. Spend time in the great outdoors. Plenty of sun. Be comfortable with the water. Dock C, Pier 7 Whitewater City Docks.

"Oh no. No way. There's gotta be some other way we can get out hero-ing quota for the day."
"Why? Scared of the water all of a sudden?"
Isaac wasn't entirely sure what to say. "No, I have no faith in you to be able to swim if something goes wrong thanks to your bad leg?" It was a little too on the nose, even if it was exactly what Isaac was thinking right now. Elliot meant a ton to him, and the idea of him being lost at sea because he couldn't properly swim his way out of a situation was crushing. Still, it wasn't exactly like he could just say it. The injury was still a raw wound to Elliot, even after all of these years. To just bring it up, especially as a way of crushing his fun, would be cruelty. Instead he bit his tongue, sighing a little bit as he tried to figure out how else to convince the boy this would be a bad idea.
"And you're sure you'll be okay with this," Isaac asked, keeping his tempers even. "Seasickness? Disorientation? Scurvy?" The boy just steadfastly nodded at each example Isaac brought up. There wouldn't even be time for him to get scurvy! That'd just be silly. Seeing no way of stopping Elliot, Isaac simply decided to relent. "Alright, alright. I guess we can lend them a hand, bro. Just try not to fall overboard or anything, okay?"
Victory! Elliot pumped a fist slightly in triumph, before the two brothers began heading over to the dock as instructed. It was time for them to put the "help" in "help wanted."

Ren perked up a little as a couple younger boys walked down the dock towards the waiting schooner. Was this entire world filled with children? It made him feel old. He definitely got the Digital World memo late, at twenty. Walking over to the gangway, he beckoned the kids up as they approached, Datamon close at hand. "Welcome to the Dutchmon, guys. I'm assuming you're here because of Datamon's ad."
"My name's Ren Campbell. I'm the captain of this ship. We're putting on an expedition to an island out in the Macro Sea to look into some ruins there. Should be a good adventure. But, uh... it could be dangerous," he said, looking the kids over. "You're here, so you've got to have partners or something, right?"

Unbeknownst to any of the Dutchmon's crew or passengers, metallic boots thudded down onto the wooden floor deep in the hold. Shrouded by shadows and a midnight black cloak, SkullKnightmon retreated further into the recesses of the ship. He would be silent and hidden, and he would wait for when he was needed. He had to look after the two coming on board. She had plans for them, yet.

See? They'd be going on a totally cool pirate adventure! Elliot practically beamed at the news. Pirate adventures were probably the best kinds of adventures! Who knew what'd be found on the open seas? However, the captain seemed a little nervous at their ability to handle it. At this point the boys figured anyone who got this far into the Digital World without a partner was either one of those general guys, a spirit user like them, or dead meat walking. At least he was filtering the application process to make sure that the boys weren't the latter. "Oh, do not worry. We are each other's partners," Elliot jokingly explained, holding up his Digivice as Isaac held up his. As per usual, the two went from cocoons of light to a Veemon and an Impmon.
"Trust us. We have fought our way out of plenty of sticky situations before," Isaac said, neglecting the part where they'd be dead meat if not for people like Kiyoshi, or Maia, or Alicia, or Kouhei. "If we have done it before, surely we can do it again, right?" He still felt a little suspect about this adventure, but how could he argue with Elliot's enthusiasm? Besides, he had to admit, a high seas adventure would be a nice change of pace from caves, collapsed labs that formed into caves, and subway tunnels, aka mankind's caves. At this point he was gonna get a vitamin deficiency from the lack of fresh air!

"All right," Ren said, taking a few steps back. It was good to meet other spirit wielders. They seemed to understand each other in a way he couldn't quite connect with tamers. Had had good digimon friends, but... he didn't quite understand how that made them digivolve. And he'd even DNA-digivolved with one, before! It was hard to explain. "You're both welcome on the Dutchmon. But please understand while this is Datamon's expedition I'm the Captain here on the ship. If there's a crisis, please follow my lead. I know the ship, and I won't ever intentionally jeopardize anyone." Withdrawing his own D-tector, Ren smiled at the boys. "Execute: Human Evolution," he stated, scanning his D-tector along the glowing band of digicode that sprang up to orbit his free hand. His body was eclipsed in a sheathe of glowing light, and when it collapsed a tall, lean form dressed in pirate's garb stood before them. "CaptainHookmon," he announced with a flourish, before sliding the long-barreled, rapier-like pistol into a sheathe on his belt. "That be me name, wielder o' the Ocean Totems. The Dutchmon be part o' me, and I be welcomin' ye to this very fine ship. Welcome aboarrrd." Did he say welcome ab-arrr-ed?

"Just make sure my brother's alright, oka-"
Then they were cut off by an all-too familiar glow. The two brothers stared, wide-eyed, as they watched the pirate transform into a different-er pirate. But he was certainly more pirate-y, of course! In both how he looked and how he sounded, he had become the very essence of what a pirate was. Elliot found himself muttering about how cool their new friend was. Isaac found himself wondering when this became Talk Like A Pirate Day. They paused, wondering what to say, before Isaac broke the silence. He unwrapped his bandanna and re-tied it around his head in as pirate of a fashion possible.
"Thank ye, cap'n!" he said, his thirst for theatrics and pageantry beginning to flow as he started getting into the spirit of the adventure. Sure, why not? If they were going to be adventuring with pirates, and setting sail like pirates, they might as well talk like them too! "We be honored to set sail on such a beaut o' a vessel!" Sometimes, Isaac wondered why he never tried out for the school plays back in California. Maybe now that his digital adventure was bringing him out of his shell, he'd try out after the vacation. It was worth a shot, at least!
"Thank you very much," Elliot said, far more shy. Did that mean he was stuck being the cabin boy? Aww, he hated being the cabin boy! Hopefully even if he didn't yet have the voice for high-seas adventure, he'd still have more than enough action to participate in.

What's that? More insane company? Well. Not quite. A quartet of figures approach the dock in question. The human, Tadashi Tenkuji (still dressed in his school uniform, of course. Why would he bother changing? Effort), his partner Flamemon (a child-sized imp-like creature with bright red hair!), his other partner Mercurymon (a horror movie reject made of mirrors) and his...other-other partner Duskmon (Crawlin' in his skin).
Tadashi spies a few Digimon further down the pier. Hm. Doesn't he know an Impmon and Veemon? Well. They'll recognize him if its the same pair, surely. "H-h-hello?" He addresses the more human-like Digimon figuring that he's probably the captain of an ocean expedition. "I s-saw an advert f-f-for help on an adventure ou-out at s-s-s-sea?" Straight to the point. Good.
Oh, sure. There had been a few grumbles from Flamemon about the idea of going on a ship. Naturally the firey Digimon had a problem with the water. But they'd gotten past that when Tadashi had pointed out there would probably be treasure, or at least a few good fights.
[Sorry for the delay.]

CaptainHookmon grinned wildly at the boys, thumping over to shake both their hands. "Welcome to the Dutchmon, and the crew- temporary, mind ye." He claps them both on the shoulder, and his sparkling blue gaze raises to fixate on something- multiple somethings, actually -heading down the dock towards them. A teenager, a little older than Elliot and Isaac. This one had a whole retinue in tow. Ren figured him for one of those Generals he'd heard about. The kid didn't look like much, but that didn't mean anything. Especially not here. And his forces sure made up for it. Those guys would definitely be useful if things got rough.
"Ahoy," CaptainHookmon greets the newcomers, waving them aboard. "I be the captain, Ren be me name. We be workin' with Datamon to- hold on," CaptainHookmon said, degenerating back to Ren Campbell is a burst of blue light. "Can't help but talk like that. Some kind of compulsion. We're sailing to an uncharted island in the Macro Ocean, seeking to explore the contents of some ruins on the island. There'll be shares of any material profit we find, of course. Anyway, welcome to the Dutchmon. Are you in, mister...?"

Now there was a sight for sore eyes! Most of the time, when journeying it was rare for Elliot and Isaac to bump into the same person more than once. There were some exceptions, like Maia, but for the most part when they encountered someone it was generally a rare occurrence to see them again. Not surprising, with how big the Digital World was. That made it all the more surprising for them to notice Tadashi, his usual retinue now +1 Duskmon. Isaac grinned as Elliot cheerfully waved.
"Hey there, Tadashi!"
"Been a while, eh? How is it going?"
That quick greeting aside, did Ren mention that there was shared profit to be had? Elliot and Isaac wasn't sure how much use Digital cash and treasure would be to them, but man would it make for an awesome souvenir! Of course, the treasure could be cursed, too. Would Digital curses affect non-Digital beings? Inquiring minds demanded to know.
For now, though, that wasn't the most important topic to think on. Right now, they just wanted to see if Tadashi was coming along with them. It was always good to see familiar faces popping up.

"Yeah, w-w-w-we're in. Tadashi. Tadashi Tenkuji. This is F-Flamemon, Duskmon and M-M-M-M-M...Mercurymon," The boy straightens his shirt, and looks down at the two Digimon. Ah. They are the Sunderland boys. Awesome. They'd been pretty nice, if a little...naive. "Hello I-I-Isaac," He nods, and then winks at the other boy, "Heeeeey E-Elliot," Oh for god's sake, you've been there for two minutes. Stop flirting.
Flamemon grunts and returns himself to Tadashi's Xros Loader, already sick of being around so much water. He showed his face, like he said he would, there. Ugh. Mercurymon moves down the pier, muttering about how filthy the ship looks, whilst Duskmon takes up a guard position just behind Tadashi, swords retracted for the moment and eyes scanning the area for threats.

Ren nodded to the newcomer, offering him a welcoming smile and reaching out to shake Tadashi's hand. "Welcome to our little expedition and the Dutchmon Tadashi, Flamemon, Mercurymon and Duskmon." It was good he seemed to know Elliot and Isaac already. They should work better together. "Come aboard, we can set sail immediately." He offered Mercurymon and his grumblings a wry glance as he walked up the gangway to the schooner's deck. Datamon looked over the group approvingly; surely this collection of humans, digimon and humans that turned into digimon could handle whatever obstacles they encountered. "I'll give you the same speech I gave to Elliot and Isaac. This is Datamon's expedition but the Dutchmon's my ship. I'm not looking to conscript anybody, but should any kind of situation occur I'll expect you to follow my lead. Short of that, we're all in this together. The Dutchmon largely handles the sailing herself, and the Monmon will help me when necessary, so there isn't much need for deckhands and the like. I don't expect you to treat me like your Captain or anything. Now let's get going gentlemen. We have a treasure island to find!" Maybe an overstatement, Ren.
Once everyone was safely on board and the Monmon had finished stowing the cargo, Ren strode purposefully to the wheel, calling out in a commanding voice for small amounts of sail to be raised. They opened and caught wind regardless of the fact no one had touched them; for that matter, had the ship even been tied down or anchored? There certainly wasn't any noticeable untying or raising of anchors the group could see. The Dutchmon eased out of port slowly, and once they were clear Ren called for more sail. The wind favored them, and soon they were sailing along past the Binary Archipelago at a good clip on smooth seas. It was an easy, comfortable journey and so far they were making good time.
Ren had informed everyone as they set out that the journey would take them around a day and a half. They had time to kill.

Elliot didn't seem to notice Tadashi's change in tone, instead just smiling back happily. Isaac did, giving a sharp cough of acknowledgement. Nope, not having someone his age flirting with his little brother. Not today! Thankfully, there seemed to be no follow-up. Isaac could hopefully rest easy this trip, instead of constantly needing to keep an eye out on Elliot. After the hectic few days that the brothers had experienced, there would be nothing better than a nice, quick adventure to get their spirits up-
Wait, did he just say a day and a half?
Isaac and Elliot shot each other brief looks of concern. They had just gotten in trouble for staying in the Digital World for too long a few nights back! Now they were going to be gone for almost two whole days? Their mom was going to kill them for this. However, it was far too late to back out now. The ship had already set sail, and unless they wanted to swim all the way back to shore they were stuck here. The two tried to push their worries about home out of their heads, instead focusing on the fun of the journey. A little bit of positivity in a sticky situation could go a long way.
Isaac headed to the open windows, deciding to take in the cool air and smell of the sea. It was nice and refreshing, and gave Isaac a much-needed reminder that this would at least be fun. "So, how many voyages have you been on?" he asked, turning curiously to the captain. Maybe there'd be some old sailor stories easing him into this journey.
Elliot, on the other hand, stuck by Tadashi and his crew. "What've you been up to lately?" he asked, looking for the start to a conversation.

Tadashi either doesn't hear Isaac's cough, or pretends he didn't. Protip? It's the latter. This ain't his first rodeo. That's what normal people say, right? His tone returns to normal however, as he address the two boys after Ren's statement, "D-don't worry, I c-c-can have DarkTrailmon c-carry the three of us home in a f-f-few hours afterwards. T-turns out it can k-k-kinda fly," Three days would be a long time to be missing. Not to mention school and the like. He assumed Elliot and Isaac went to school as well.
Duskmon, unlike his Lord, does respond to Isaac's cough. He remains standing at attention near Tadashi eyes facing forwards, however the large eye in the middle of his chest blinks, and turns its gaze on Isaac. Yay! He has his own personal bodyguard now. Well. This can only make his game stronger, right? Yeah!
Mercurymon had disappeared for a few moments, but has now re-appeared with a rag and is polishing...seemingly the entire ship. Every piece of metal and every molding he can find. And by Yggdrasil's eyestalks, if anyone gets fingerprints on him or the things he's polishing, he will not be responsible for his actions.
"Oh, uh. J-just the regular. Sc-sc-sc..." he takes a deep breath, his tone having returned to the playfully flirtatious one he'd greeted the boy in, "school. D-dance classes and practice. Uh. W-w-we helped out a few D-Digimon with a b-b-bully problem," He doesn't like bullies. He's had more than his share of them for one reason or another. "T-training as well. How about you, Elliot?"
Oh my god, would you please stop?

"Actually it's basically been one extended adventure since I came to this world. My grandfather left me a box when he died; inside was my D-tector, his journal cryptically describing Spirit Totems and the Digital World. I fell through to this side, found my Spirits and they led me to the Dutchmon. I stop back into the Human World every once in a while, but mostly I've been on this side of things, sailing, putting together a crew." He paused, eyes scanning the horizon, then upwards to check the rigging, the passage of the clouds overhead. Ren's hands stayed on the ship's wheel, making minute course changes as he moved with the motion of the sea. Truth was, the Dutchmon would pretty much steer itself once he'd decided on a course; when Ren was in his CaptainHookmon form he didn't even need to be in contact with the ship to command it. As a human he'd have to steer for any particularly fine maneuvering, but unless they got attacked by pirates... other pirates... he could essentially point them at their destination and so long as they didn't encounter any icebergs in their path they'd be fine.
But where was the fun in that? What was the point in having a ship if you didn't sail it? Besides. He found it awfully relaxing.
"I, uh. I'm not too good at life in the Human World. Mostly it just passed me by. Here, though. Adventure. Mystery. Peril. I find ways to help people here. There's a significance to my life, meaning, that I was missing back on the other side. For me, this is where I belong."
"How about you and your brother, Isaac?" Ren turned to regard his younger companion thoughtfully. "What brings you here?"
[Two more Ren posts until arrival.]
