The Big Secret? That thing that so many people tried so hard to hide and keep covered? The very thing people where worried about that would change the world and how everyone acted and how even some basic things worked? It happened, and it happened in such a manner that the world was pretty split in their reactions and now the world was in a strange unease. Digimon had been revealed to the world, and there was a battle between two Mega Digimon in the center of Tokyo causing a large amount of collateral damage and even the deaths of innocent people. The area was closed off, and a large tear appeared in the center of Tokyo, exposing what was a highly damaged section of the Digital world, an area known as the Network Plains. The cause of the rip was something for speculation, some saying that the stress of another pair of Mega level Digimon clashing in such a destabilized section of the Digital world caused everything to weaken enough.
It had been almost a year since then, and while the tear was still very much a thing, a life had returned to a state of normal. Or... at least... as normal as a new species of life being forcefully introduced could be. Digimon and Humans could travel between the two dimensions with ease as several smaller tears soon became stations that one could walk, drive, or even take a train through to a station on the other side. This had allowed Humans and Digimon to actually take up residence in both Dimensions and even work and just spend time in the other Dimension with relative ease. However, there was without a doubt a group of people against Digimon and against them being allowed to live their lives just like anyone else. The first big conflict between this group and the Digimon was an attack on a pair of Rookie Digimon that had gotten lost somewhere in Tokyo.
Among the rumors of what really happened, it was said that this group had somehow corrupted the Rookie Digimons with some strange virus that had caused them to go crazy and attack anyone and anything near them. One of the first people to respond to these Digimon going crazy was the no longer was a rookie member of the no-longer secret organization, DATS. Joseph and his partner Mosamon were near the area when the call came in, and upon arriving to the seen, was greeted to a Kamemon and an Agumon surrounded by chaos and destruction, with a couple of injured humans trying to escape. Joseph and Mosamon had to do the very best to stop the two Digimon with as little collateral damage as possible. Unfortunately, Joseph and Mosamon had to destroy the two Digimon, only the Kamemon mentioning something about mean humans with a strange device before its data seemed to break and disappear.
It was only a while later DATS had heard that the two Digimon never reappeared in the digital world as eggs, meaning that either they were permanently destroyed, or that their data has been sent somewhere else. Over the course of the next few weeks, there were more terrorist attacks from the group, who eventually called themselves The Vaccine, including the corruption of Digimon in both the human and digital world, a couple bombings, and a few videos of them showing the Corrupted Digimon killing Humans and their Digimon partners. Together with DATS and other Government forces, the world began to close down the Stations to the Digital world and policing the Barriers between the worlds to make sure that travel was safe, as well as performing raids on suspected Vaccine hideouts. Only those with Digimon, People who could digivolve into Digimon, and Licensed Digimon could battle against the Corrupted Digimon, but it was with a heavy heart that they knew that those who Digimon who were destroyed would be dead.
Joseph and Mosamon would only gain more experience dealing with this Corrupted Digimon, and as the Vaccine learned how to Corrupt Champion Digimon, Joseph and Mosamon would have to adapt. Their battles and job only became harder and their hearts grew heavy as they could not save those Corrupted by the Vaccine. Joseph and Mosamon were assigned to a special division of DATS whose goal was to try and capture Corrupted Digimon, and with Mosamon's Champion form, Sagamon unlocked, the two had an advantage against the poor Digimon, and the two soon would begin capturing and sealing Corrupted Digimon within Data-Prisons, and the hopes would be that DATS would be able help and even find a cure for the Corrupted Digimon. Joseph and Mosamon's journey would come to a peak during a normal patrol of the city.
"Hey... Joseph... those people were staring at us... pretty intently..." A soft voice hissed softly in his ear, and Joseph turned his head a bit just in time to see a trio of possibly shady individuals head into an alleyway. Taking a moment to finish his soft drink and adjust his slightly altered uniform, which was now more of a vest and waist sash then a full on trench coat, the Tamer and DATS member stared at the alleyway for a moment before giving a nod to his Digimon. A similar nod was returned, and Mosamon unwrapped herself from Joseph's torso and took to the sky, taking a high vantage point as Joseph walked toward the Alleyway, Digivice in hand and the Riot Shield and Stun Baton apps ready to activate, depending on what he felt like he might need more. Stopping before the alleyway and looking in, Joseph reached up to his ear and pressed a small device, speaking quietly into it. "Do you happen to see them Mosa?" He asked, only to hear a short 'No' in response.
Nodding to no one in particular, Joseph entered the alleyway and began to look around the walls and ground for anything that the trio might of went into, possibly even a hidden door or sewer. After making one trip through the Alleyway, Joseph turned back around and began to make his way back through the alleyway, this time a bit more attention on any tiny detail he could. It took a few minutes, but he eventually found a few pieces of trash that seemed to be in a little too perfect of a line. It was in fact a hidden door, and Joseph pulled out what he could only really describe as a weapon from Tron. Tapping the Baton along the wall, he eventually heard a different sound from the rest of the wall. A bit more testing, and Joseph motioned for Mosamon to join him in the alleyway, before pointing at the wall. Giving her Tamer a nod, Mosamon moved back a bit and launched an attack, "Venom Blast!" She cried, and a purple arc of liquid struck the wall and caused enough of it to dissolve just enough for Joseph to reach in and pull the hidden door open.
He expected the door to lead into the building, but it instead led to a staircase that seemed to descend beneath the building, or at the very least into the basement. "Going to call this in, but I don't like how they looked so we're going to go in first." Joseph said to Mosamon, before reporting his location and the location of the hidden doorway. As he approached the door again, Mosamon wrapped herself around his torso once again, and Joseph dismissed the baton and had the riot shield on the ready, his finger lightly touching the button to activate the shield. The staircase itself was poorly lit, and at the moment it only seemed like the two of them were descending into pure darkness, but Mosamon was able to see things just a bit better then her Tamer. "In 8 steps there is a landing. Be ready in case this is a trap..." She whispered to Joseph, the man only giving a small nod in response.
As soon as his feet hit the landing, Joseph turned in time to see a shadowy figure lunging at him, and Joseph activated the Riot Shield just in time, being thrown against the wall and being pinned by the shadowy figure. Mosamon let out an angry hiss and lashed out, her mouth glowing purple as it latched onto the figure and causing it to withdraw in pain. Pushing into the room and lucky enough to find a light, Joseph flicked it on to see a very similar Agumon, as in the very same Agumon that was the first Corrupted Digimon he had encountered, but there was something different, something off. It took a moment, but he could see that the Digimon had a set of black cuffs on it's arms and seemed to be a slightly darker color. Behind it, there was one of the trio from earlier, a strange device in his hand. "Is that... is that a Digivice?" Joseph asked, quite unsure at what the stranger was holding.
All he could see was a strange shape giving off a glow from the screen that looked almost exactly like what he was holding, but it somehow seemed twisted. The man, a member of the Vaccine Joseph was sure, smiled and held the Dark Digivice up and yelled, "Agumon! Digivolve!" As if the events took place in slow motion, Joseph watched as the Agumon's body twisted and contorted, its face one of pain and anger, before it's body seemed to dissolve and reform as a Greymon, still a darker color then normal and the black cuffs still on its arms. In an instant, it turned to face Joseph and Mosamon as it's massive body crashed through the floor above it, and it fired off a large ball of fire. Backing against the staircase again, Joseph held the Riot Shield aloft once more, barely blocking the fire attack, feeling the heat scorch his clothes and flesh.
The building above them, now dealing with structural and flame damage, began to bend and break, and began to collapse upon itself. Joseph took this time to dash up the stairs he had come down, back into the alleyway, before stopping out on the street before the building. Out from the smoke and wreckage came the Corrupted Greymon, bashing through wood and stone before pulling itself onto the street, it's skull covered face unmistakable. Jumping back from the Digimon a bit more, Joseph held his Digivice in front of him, and without saying a word Mosamon flew off him once more and digivolved herself, going from a small serpent into a large Naga-like beast with large, rough scaly claw hands and an almost humanoid torso with a flash of light. "Sagamon, go!" Joseph called out, and watched as his partner, now almost as tall as Greymon, lunched at the other Champion, their hands catching each other in a contest of strength.
As Sagamon battled against the Greymon, Joseph charged toward the Vaccine Tamer, bringing out his Baton and striking the male in the side, knocking him to the ground. Pinning the man to the ground and holding the baton to his neck, choking him a bit, Joseph yelled at the man. "How! How did you do this?! You forced a Digimon to digivolve!?" The man, between trying to fight off Joseph and stop the baton from choking him more, only smiled and spit at Joseph, before yelling out, "GREYMON! FIRE AT ME!" Turning to face the two battling Champions, Joseph watched as the Corrupted Greymon turned its head and threw Sagamon off to the side, before charging a similar fire attack and launching it over at Joseph and the Vaccine Tamer. Joseph reacted the only way he could think, and with some quick moment, launched himself and the trainer back into the wreckage of the building. Not being able to see her Tamer, Sagamon let out a cry of anger and faced the Greymon, firing off a series of clawing attacks at the Corrupted Digimon, her claws glowing a bright purple, and each cut seeming to burn as it poisoned the other Champion.
In one final push, Sagamon rushed forth as her mouth opened up 3 times it's normal size to latch onto Greymon's shoulder, forcing it to tumble backward into the hole with Sagamon being pulled along with. However, before the two of them crashed into the bottom of the wreckage, the Greymon vanished in a flash of light and Sagamon returned back to Mosamon. Surprised and realizing what it mean, Mosamon began to search the wreckage to come upon Joseph laying among the rubble, a Capture device in his hand. Happy her Tamer was alright, Mosamon rushed to his side and was about to wrap herself around him, only to see that his right arm was missing, and a piece of steel pipe was sticking out of his left leg. Joseph smiled and gave her a soft pat on her helmed head, before motioning to the Dark Digivice next to him. "Looks like he got away... but we got his Digivice." He said, before laying his head down. "Do you think they pay well for medical leave?"
The battle between Sagamon and the Corrupted Greymon made national news with ease, as with most chaotic events, if a person was close, they probably recorded it with their cellphones. The Corrupted Greymon was brought to the DATS labs along with the Dark Digivice, and soon a connected was found between a strange corporation and the Dark Digivice was found. In a raid of one of the Corperation's buildings, members of DATS found more Dark Digivices being made, as well as the strange control cuffs and a good amount of the Corrupted Digimon that had been 'killed' before by the members of DATS. It was also revealed that this wasn't the only place in production of the Dark Digivice or Control Cuffs, but by the time DATS squads arrived at the other locations, everything of importance was already cleared out.
The Data they had found in the first location though, had proved quite valuable and was a big step for DATS in solving the problem with Corrupted Digimon, Dark Digivices, and even caused a major blow to the Vaccine group as a whole. During this time though, Joseph had received a paid medical leave for his rehab, having to readjust his left leg and adjust to his new replacement arm, a decently advanced prosthetic. Although he returned to duty at DATS, Joseph could no longer walk without the assistance of a leg brace or a cane, and he was moved to working more desk work and training new DATS members. This position was nice for a few months, but more often then not if a call came in about Vaccine or Corrupted Digimon, Joseph would be one of the first members to leave the Headquarters, often at the annoyance of his Boss and Human/Digimon Resources. Joseph and Mosamon would not stay down, no matter how much others wanted him too. This was his job, and he'd be damned if he'd be forced to sit out because of a bum leg or flesh wound.
