Spirits Aren't All They're Cracked Up To Be (Alicia/Mitsuko)

"Mmmmph... This is the worst..." Alicia groaned as she finished texting her family members a non-Digimon centered tale of how she wound up in the hospital this time with another injury that was just bad enough to need stitching to shut. It felt like it took forever to come up with something believable to sell to them. And even then she probably wouldn't be able to defend it if someone went and poked holes in her story. "A freak accident? What was I thinking...?"
"You want to me actually answer that or just let you stew in your own self-depreciation? Still, its not like you were involving yourself in a fight for a bad reason. I must stress though, you weren't in top fighting condition. If you weren't stressed by the Ninjamon attacks you probably would've stood a good chance of dodging that arrow." Sol commented, and Alicia could just feel him folding his ethereal arms and shaking his head at her.
"Oh shut up already... You've only nagged me about that every day since I hauled the other guy in. I think I get it already..." the Steel Spirit User snapped back half heartedly, laying back again. Looking at her phone, she started to write up a text to Elliot, Isaac, and Maia. As her few friends in the know about Digimon, they deserved the full story.
'Hey. Wanted to give you all an update. Not going to be available for a short while. Met another Spirit user named Gallatin and it seems someone has a bounty on his head. Freak Sagittarimon, basically an armored centaur archer, showed up in the Real World trying to kill him. Managed to fight him off but not before my side got torn open by an arrow. It was bad enough that some of the injury was reflected on my human body, ouch. Don't panic though, I'm fine and the Doc says I'll make a full recovery as long as I don't strain myself.' the text read. Alicia mused on the wording a bit, before nodding and sending it.
"Well, that's taken care of..." She mused to herself. "Now what do I do?" It really was boring in a hospital when all you had to keep you company for days on end was a half-charged cellphone and an endlessly nagging Spirit in your head.

Mitsuko finished packing up her violin, when her father met her outside of the room of the unknown patient she hd just played for. "Hello Father." She greeted Dr. Kaioh warmly, flashing her thousand watt smile at him.
"Hello, Suki-Chan." He gave her a small hug. "You remind me so much of your mother. Not just because of your talents, but your kind heart." Mitsuko's deep blue eyes sparkled with tears.
"Thank you." She replied softly. "Is there anything else you need today?" Her bell like voice, thick with emotion.
"Well, there is a girl I just finished giving stitches to, down the hall. Go see if she would like to hear you." Dr. Kaioh said as he gave Mitsuko another small hug and kissed the top of her head.
"M'kay Daddy." Mitsuko said softly as her father let her go. Soon she started towards the only door open. Before she walked in she secured her bag, straightened her golden blouse and the black skirt. Finally clutching her violin to her chest she walked into the room. The first thing she saw, was a girl with red hair, resting on the bed. The girl in the room looked slightly annoyed. Mitsuko looked into the girl's green eyes, bowing as she introduced herself.
"Good day Ma'am. I'm Mitsuko Kaioh, a hospital volunteer." Mitsuko gracefully stood back up, putting her violin and bag into an empty chair. "Would you like some company? Perhaps a song played on my violin, or I could sing one for you." Mitsuko felt herself blush from the embarrassment of rambling. She ran her right hand through her long, thick silvery hair. Catching a strand of it, she twirled it nervously.

Alicia blinked in surprise as she was suddenly addressed, looking over to spot the young hospital volunteer. Smiling to the other young woman, she chuckled softly. "I suppose some extra company wouldn't hurt." Well that might be a bit confusing for the silver-haired violinist. Alicia had started to take Sol's presence for granted, to the point that she'd refer to him indirectly. At the very least, her eyes drifted over to the D-Scanner she'd set on the end table just a moment before Mitsuko arrived.
She figured it was safe enough to leave out. If someone recognized it for what it is, great, she could actually talk a bit more openly about that ever sensitive topic of Digimon. If they didn't and asked about it, she could make something up as to why it was there, perhaps. Either way the secret of Digimon would be kept safe if it needed to.
"Hmm... A song would be nice too now that I think about it. I'm happy with either option so I'll leave the choice up to you." Alicia continued, laying herself back. A good song always brightened the mood so she could see why someone with such talents could volunteer to work around the hospital.
"You really are far too trusting some days, Alicia..." Sol commented, though given the smirk she could sense from him, she knew wasn't chastising her for it. He probably knew something she didn't about their unexpected visitor. She'd just come to accept that Sol would know a lot of things she didn't have a hope or prayer of noticing. Though, how he managed to keep himself so up-to-date on things was something she'd always wonder.

Mitsuko nodded her head, as she went towards her violin case. She pulled out the beautiful instrument, closed her eyes, and began playing Greensleeve; a traditional folk song she heard her mother play a few times. The gorgeous, yet haunting melody filled the air. She felt the music flow from her violin. As she was nearing the end of the song, a beeping noise came from her bag, breaking her concentration.
Mitsuko's blue eyes opened, as she glanced towards her bag. "I... I'm so sorry." Mitsuko stammered, as she gently placed the violin back into its open case. She reached into her bag, and started to pull out her cell phone, when she noticed something strange. The beeping wasn't coming from her phone, but from the white and teal digivice she had received not so long ago. "What... does that mean? Mitsuko muttered to herself, as she quickly looked around the room, her eyes locking onto a familiar looking digivice, different from hers, resting on the table. "You... Mitsuko looked at the girl, whom she didn't know. Slowly Mitsuko pulled out the digivice, opening her hand so it was visible to the other girl. "You're Digidestined too! Who are you? Why are you here?" Mitsuko blurted out.

Alicia smiled softly and closed her eyes, listening to the melody. It struck deep into her dark spirit, causing the young woman to start humming along quietly as in entranced by the music. Honestly, the young violinist was quite the protege in her opinion. It actually made Alicia herself a little jealous. Mitsuko had found a place where she could use her creative talent for others, while the Steel Spirit User was stuck still pursuing her own artistic dream while bogged down with the job she had to hold on to as a fall back.
The bed-ridden redhead snapped to attention in surprise at the beeping noise that came from the other woman's bag. She'd been so lost in the music that she'd actually started tuning out everything else. "Huh? Oh, it's okay, some peo...ple..." Alicia began to trail off as she saw the D-3 in Mitsuko's hand, and the fact that it was the device beeping, not the phone as both had expected. Then the barrage of comments came, and she chuckled softly.
"Okay, okay, one thing at a time, alright? First, I'm not exactly a 'Digidestined'. I don't get a partner Digimon to call on when things get tough. I'm a Spirit User. Instead of standing on the sidelines and watching, I actually turn into a Digimon and get right up into the middle of the action. Which is also why I'm here. A while back a Sagittarimon showed up in the Real World attacking an acquaintance of mine. I had to Spirit Evolve and fight him off, but before I was done..."
Alicia winced a bit at the memory, resting a hand lightly on her right side. Right over where the stitches closing up her injury were. "Let me tell you, if for whatever insane reason someone asks, getting your side torn open by a huge metal arrow is excruciatingly painful..." The Spirit User flashed a nervous smile to Mitsuko after mentioning that. "Ehehe..."
"Ye gods, Alicia, this is not something people tend to joke about." Sol commented. Alicia decided to ignore him for the moment. She really had nothing to say to him at that, and Mitsuko was right there. She didn't want to be deemed crazy or whatever after all.

Mitsuko grinned with the red haired girl. Slowly her smile softened. "You were still chosen. You are still Digidestined." Mitsuko spoke softly. "I... I don't have a partner either. Well... not yet." Mitsuko carefully put the Digivice into her bag, her smile fading, sadness tinting her voice.
"I'm sorry you're hurt." Mitsuko said softly, as she sat into an empty chair. "Who is Sagittarimon? Why did he attack you, if I may ask." Mitsuko twirled a small strand of her silvery hair nervously.

"Well, I suppose that's true." Alicia noted, smiling. A thought occurred to her though, causing the young woman to snap up to attention. "Oh geeze! How could I be so... ugh! I'm sorry Mitsuko, my name's Alicia. Alicia Westfield. Sorry I took so long to realize I hadn't given you my name. I must still be reeling a bit from having to fight in the Real World."
She tilted her head a bit, wondering about Mitsuko's confession of her lack of a partner. "Huh... I wonder if your partner is just getting delayed for some reason. Or maybe he's waiting for you to go to the Digital World if you haven't yet... I don't know for sure but you'll have your partner soon enough." Shrugging her shoulders, Alicia came to the reason she had to fight in the first place.
"As for who Sagittarimon was...? Uh, think scaly centaur with heavy black armor and a huge bow. That's pretty close to summing up what I saw. And he didn't exactly attack me specifically, but the other kid that got admitted in same day as me. Gallatin, I believe his name was. I got caught in the cross-fire basically, and took up arms to defend myself. By the time it was all said and done though, he saved me and, in the same move, killed the Sagittarimon..." Alicia shook her head at that, sighing.
"I didn't really want to kill him in the end... I just wanted him to go away..."

Mitsuko shuddered in horror, as she listened to Alicia’s recollection of what happened. She knew being a Digidestined was both a blessing and a curse. From what she had learned, you got to experience a lifelong friendship that even broke the boundaries of two worlds. A partner that you were willing to sacrifice everything for, and them for you. However, those sacrifices could even cost a life, if one wasn’t careful. Mitsuko shook her head, clearing away those thoughts.
“I have a feeling my partner is waiting for me, in the Digital World.” Mitsuko said softly, “I haven’t been able to go there yet, but I would like to. However I can’t go alone.” Mitsuko’s smile faltered, hearing the remorse in Alicia’s voice.
Mitsuko’s eyes sparkled with tears. “No one should have to make the decision to end one’s life. But, you were protecting yourself. When Gallatin saw you were in trouble, he had to make that difficult decision. He chose to save you.” The tears in her oceanic eyes, started to spill over silently. “Sagittarimon made his decision, when he decided to attack the both of you. You had to defend yourselves. We’re Digidestined. We are destined for great things in this life. We have to remember that, and follow our paths, wherever they may lead.” Mitsuko brushed away her tears, and smiled confidently at Alicia once more. “You followed the path, for the greater good. That is the most honorable thing of all.”
Mitsuko felt bad for what happened to Alicia. However, she believed in what she said, wholeheartedly. She knew that her partner was waiting for her, and she would meet them, when the time was right.

The redhead sighed softly, looking down as Mitsuko started to cry a bit at her recollection of the series of events. "I suppose..." Alicia began quietly, closing her eyes. "Thanks, Mitsuko." Sitting up a bit, Alicia flashed a half smile. "Tell you what, I'm going to be up and at 'em again shortly, I'm sure. How about I take you to the Digital World so you can finally meet up with your partner? I'm sure he or she is very lonely without you. I may only be about half way up the metaphorical totem pole when it comes to Digimon levels, but I should be enough to keep you safe or buy you time to get somewhere safer if push comes to shove."
The Steel Spirit User flipped her phone out, opening up her contacts. "What do you say? Wanna swap numbers so we can get in touch when that day comes?" She asked softly, tilting her head.
"Are you sure you want to risk yourself like this so soon? You still haven't balanced your Spirit out, and are still leaning towards darkness. As much as I want to help her as well, this is an unnecessary risk..." Sol cautioned, not exactly that amused that Alicia was going to throw herself head first into a gauntlet again.
"It's for the best, Sol..." Alicia whispered under her breath to the Spirit, hoping Mitsuko didn't hear her. Having to explain that would be... awkward...

Mitsuko was stunned at Alicia's generosity. She nodded her head in agreement. "I would appreciate that, very much." Mitsuko replied as she dug into her bag and pulled out her cell phone. "I do hope we can fine my partner without any trouble. However, I think it is wise to be prepared. I hope... we can be friends as well as Digidestined." She said softly, and then gave Alicia her phone, to input Alicia's number into Mitsuko's contact list.
Mitsuko twirled her hair once more. "Do you have the strength to hear one more song?" Mitsuko hoped that Alicia didn't think she was being prideful of her musical talents. She wanted to do something to repay Alicia's kindness. Hopefully with the healing powers of music, her mother had taught her. However she knew that if Alicia ever needed her, musically or otherwise, Mitsuko would help if she was able to.

With their contact details exchanged, Alicia smiled to the silver haired musician. "Of course we can be friends" Alicia replied with a smile. "What was the point of exchanging numbers like that if we were going to split apart and never talk again when everything was said and done?" The redhead chuckled softly, then tilted her head at the offering of another song.
"Oh, of course! Please, you're songs are beautiful!" Well that was an especially energetic response from some one who's been bedridden like this for a while already. Even with the first one being interrupted by the revelation that both had ties to the Digital World, Alicia had calmed significantly from Mitsuko's song. For someone who had steeped their spirit in a dark Steel just a few days ago, it was really something else. To the point where she'd noticed that Sol hadn't said anything at all for a while which was someone unusual for him.
"Uh... sorry, I just really enjoyed the first one..." Alicia noted, chuckling nervously.

Mitsuko smiled, as a giggle escaped her lips. "I guess that was a silly observation, wasn't it?" After her laughter subsided, Mitsuko smiled at Alicia. At the red haired girls praise of her music, Mitsuko bent over her violin. A curtain of thick silvery hair hid her blushing face, hopefully.
It wasn't unusual for her to hear praise for her talents, but she still was embarrassed by it. She busied herself with grabbing the smooth wood of the violin, when instincts hit her. Slowly, Mitsuko closed her violin case, locking the instrument within. Mitsuko stood up, flipping her hair over her shoulder. "I think... I have a song I wish to sing. Something tells me you can relate to it, as I always have. Mitsuko closed her eyes, recalling the words in her head to a song in her favorite Disney movie. Mulan.
"Look at me I will never pass for a perfect bride Or a perfect daughter Can it be I'm not meant to play this part? Now I see That if I were truly to be myself I would break my family's heart"
In Mitsuko's mind, she recalled images of her mother. Wondering if she would be proud of her. Slowly her eyes opened, she gently went from the lower ranges of the song, and with a deep breath she belted out the higher notes of the ballad.
"Who is that girl I see Staring straight Back at me? Why is my reflection someone I don't know? Somehow I cannot hide Who I am Though I've tried When will my reflection show Who I am inside? When will my reflection show Who I am inside?
Her voice slowly ended the soft note, her eyes dropped down to the floor, slightly embarrassed. Grabbing a strand of hair, she twirled it nervously. Hoping that the song was truly what Alicia needed to hear.

Alicia blinked a bit as Mitsuko mentioned singing this time. Well, this worked out, she was rather interested in the other girl's singing voice if her playing of the violin was so good as well. She doesn't didn't really find a way to go and ask the other girl for such specifically without making things awkward. Still, Mitsuko was going to sing now, so Alicia waited for her to go on.
To say that her song of choice really hit home was an understatement. So much so that it made her heart ache as it brought things into perspective. How long had she been lying through her teeth already about what was going on? Already she'd played off a significant injury caused by a fight as a mere accident, and the mere thought of mentioning Digimon to her brothers... They were family, and yet she was now keeping a secret of earth-shattering proportions. She was keeping them in the dark that the little sister they always looked at had changed in big ways, both literally and metaphorically.
Was that a tear at her eye? The Spirit User was quick to wipe it away once she noticed it, shuddering a bit. How had Mitsuko known? How had she known of the ties of family that Alicia treasured so dearly? And that fact that those same ties were strained by her secret as a Spirit User? "That was..." she began softly, trying to collect her emotions and thoughts after having been so thoroughly rattled, "... amazing, I must admit. If I may ask, what gave you the feeling that it would be so relevant to my situation...?"
Agh, she wasn't quite able to hide the shaking in her voice from how the song had gotten to her. It was funny actually. All this time since she began her time in the Digital World, almost nothing had shaken her to the point of uncertainty, especially while she was evolved and had forged her Steel. And yet here they were, one young woman's song had pretty much smashed that Steel wide open. It really was the wake up call Alicia needed and reinforced what Sol had been mentioning.
Without a balance between her Spirits, she wasn't herself anymore. Now that things had been put into perspective, she'd been unusually vicious when she used the ShadowArmsdramon form. Now, she realized she had to be careful. Balance really was critical to her. "Either way... thank you..."

Mitsuko, blushed once again at the praise Alicia showered upon her. This time she didn't hide her face. Mitsuko's intuition told her that something deep inside of Alicia finally started to heal itself. Mitsuko smiled to herself.
"You're welcome. I am glad you enjoyed it. I think we are very similar. Since I received my digivice, I have needed to keep secrets from my father. The truth of people's wounds. Why I feel I need to be here so much. Why I throw myself into my music." Mitsuko sat down in her chair once again, taking a deep breath. "We are destined for great things. Sometimes that path is dark and dangerous. I firmly believe that we keep secrets to keep our loved ones safe. I know since I started my journey onto this new path, I have had to keep secrets from my father. I don't even have my partner yet, so I could only imagine what you must have to do."
Mitsuko looked into Alicia's eyes. "The good news is that we don't have to do this alone. We have each other, and who knows maybe we will find a few more friends along the way. And maybe someday we can tell our families, and not have to keep secrets anymore."

Alicia smiled a bit, laying herself back and closing her eyes. "Don't get so lost in problems and frustrations that you break though. I understand entirely why you're doing what you're doing. But if you don't already, make sure you take a day or two for yourself here and there. Make sure you can rest yourself so you can keep doing what you believe is right." Sighing softly, she thought back on her Digital World trips and the troubles there in. "In the end, isn't that the most important thing of all? Upholding what you believe in, even as enemies gather at all sides to strike at you?"
She reached a hand out to the D-Scanner, picking it up and taking a look at it. "I'm not sure what would be more difficult to deal with: Becoming a Digimon and fighting personally, or watching some one you'll know you'll forge deep bonds with fight on your behalf to protect you... both are challenging and painful in their own ways. And maybe one day we will be able to talk with our family about it. We'll just have to wait and see, hmm?"
"Stay strong, Alicia..." Sol commented, and she could tell he was smiling now. "Your tale has just begun after all, and the road will be fraught with perils of many kinds. Your Steel is strong already, but even now you must temper it further. In this case, it required the destruction of the original. Something new and greater then ruined pieces will come forth now though. And of course, what is Steel without allies to fight beside? Never forget the people you meet who can fight as well. Whether you go it alone or whether you join hands with others, they will be there should you need them."
In a time of fear and uncertainty, that was certainly a comforting thought.
