Come to the Valley of Dragons If You Want An Asskicking (Az)

"Yours are no slouches either," Isaac responded. "One wrong move, and I'm gonna be toast!" Judging by Alicia's warning, toast was what Isaac was going to be if he didn't keep careful. He readied himself, keeping both arms prepared to block as the girl lifted her sword way up high. Another overhead swing? With how limber the Yasyamon was, dodging those really wasn't too much trouble. Isaac wasn't sure if she was hoping to tire him out and then make a decisive strike, or if she had something else up her sleeves. Just in case he remained on the ready, prepared to hop sideways without much flourish to it. A spin in such an unclear situation would just leave him wide open.
Still, despite Isaac's hesitation, Alicia's feint did the trick. Isaac hopped to the side just as Alicia shifted gears to a leftward swing. Worst of all, he picked the side that Alicia had swung from, too! In a frantic split second he flung down his left arm, trying to absorb as much of the blow's force as possible with one of his buckler-like arm guards. Alicia's hit was a beautiful one, though, and sent the shield shattering into at least ten pieces. The sword's momentum was greatly slowed as it cleaved through and made it to his side. It hissed steamily as it slashed into the stomach, but thankfully didn't go much further. Isaac had decisively lost that exchange, and for the time being was forced to spring back and retreat.
"Cross Slash" he shouted as he hopped, holding both blades to his chest in an X-shaped formation. The shockwave he fired at the apex of his jump rocketed down not at Alicia's body, but instead at the ground just in front of her feet. The resulting cloud of dust and rubble kicked up by the sudden force would hopefully obscure her vision, giving Yasyamon time to get behind a nearby cliff and search for a more opportunistic angle of attack. If Elliot was the direct, brutal fighter, Isaac was the canny swordsman who struck solely on his own terms.

Alicia couldn't help but allow herself a victorious smirk as the best case scenario went down for her. Not only did she catch Isaac in a bad dodge, he actually had inadvertently jumped directly into her actual attack! And the clash was as devastating as one would expect for him being on the wrong end of that trade.
Hearing him call out an attack name as he jumped away, the knight dragon lifted her shield higher to protect herself from what she thought was going to be a ranged attack aimed directly at her. That wasn't the case though, and Alicia was left coughing on dust a bit, allowing Issac to make his get away. Recovering from the smokescreen effect the attack had, Alicia hunkered down again.
"Heh, not quite toast off one bad read, but we can both agree that trade went badly for you." Alicia called out. There wasn't much point to trying to seek him out, as the Yasyamon had plenty of time already to hide himself well enough that she wouldn't spot him in time before he was ready to strike. There were a number of places she could immediately make out that would be good hiding places for Isaac to take cover and plan his next move.
So she'd try to not give him that chance to plan his next move. Picking a potential hiding spot at random, Alicia crouched down to prepare for an ambush. "Steel Prominence!" she called, launching her beams again in an attempt to flush Isaac out.

The beams were quite amazing, but properly aiming them would also take a lot of Alicia's focus. Isaac thanked his lucky stars that Alicia was targeting the rock formation adjacent to his hiding spot instead of directly at him, because her beams hit with enough force to reduce significant portions of the stone to rubble. A massive cloud of dust was kicked up as gravel rained from the newly-christened crater, a spectacle that could potentially both remind Alicia of how strong she was and obscure whether she had actually hit Isaac or not.
Thankfully for Isaac, he was capable of moving both swiftly and quietly. While forests were definitely the preferred environment for the nimble Yasyamon, he could make due with canyons as well. He tried to take advantage of his quick stride and long leg length to get behind the canyon and as close to Alicia's side or rear as possible. The second she stopped the lasers she would likely be able to look around again, and that was a risk Isaac couldn't afford to take. Once at the knight's left flank, he twirled his two blades for momentum and lunged directly for her leg.
"Imp-air!" he shouted again, practically sliding forward as he tried to deliver the powerful, destabilizing cross chop right to the girl's leg. An arm she could switch out, as she had from the previous Imp-airment. It's effect was coming to a close, anyway, and she'd be back at full arm strength soon. With her leg weakened, however, it would become far harder for Alicia to advance her stance properly. She'd still be able to walk, but putting her full strength into a lunge or a block would be impossible. He just hoped he'd be able to land this critical strike and finally take control of this match's momentum.

Digimon were utterly ridiculous. This was a fact Alicia was once more forced to acknowledge, what with causing a fairly large blast crater with her Steel Prominence. She was only Champion equivalent for crying out loud! She hadn't even seen Kuro, Shiro, or a single Flarizamon cause that much destruction! Even the Mekanorimon she'd faced had had to do an obvious charge up to output similar levels of power!
"Yeah, you kind of got a real good deal with your Digimon forms. Enjoy!" Kisara chipped in with a smirk, giggling. Alicia just rolled her eyes, but unfortunately for her she failed to flush Isaac out and was stuck having to keep her head on a metaphorical swivel looking out for him.
However, she didn't even have time for that. The Yasyamon struck as soon as she had allowed her light beams to fade. And it was again with that crippling blow. She couldn't see where it was aimed though, there was no time to turn her head and looked, so she had to trust an instinctive reaction given her crouched position. Pushing off from the ground with as much force as she could muster, the SolSaberdramon leaped high into the sky just as Isaac's blades sliced through the space her left leg had occupied not even a second ago.
Alicia had to gulp at the burn she felt on her leg. That strike had been far too close for comfort. Had it landed, she would've been a sitting duck and pretty much purely on the defensive until the leg had recovered. Against such a speedy opponent, being on the defensive with a weakened stance would've lead to certain defeat.
However, that was an outcome that hadn't happened in this reality. Instead, Isaac was now directly underneath her and she was coming down on him hard. "Radiant Slash!" The knight dragon roared. shifting herself so she could take a swing at him, aided by gravity and her falling momentum.

This was bad. Very, very bad. Isaac was now aimed back first at a raging dragon knight, leaping high into the air and putting all of her dense, metallic mass behind a vicious two-handed strike. If that attack hit directly it would be curtains for him, and there weren't many good ways to dodge it either. A block would probably cost him his only other shield, as well as any and all feeling in his arms. He was horribly out of position for a sidestep in either direction, and would have to awkwardly roll out of the way instead. Was he asking for a stab in the stomach while he was prone? Hopping back would minimize damage, but minimizing wouldn't be good enough. His previous hits were adding up enough as is. Even a fraction of damage from this hit would end painfully.
So without any other options, why not forward? He was already hunched over and primed to spring from his previous lunge. If it failed he'd get stomped, but if he succeeded it'd be a perfectly harmless dodge. For that reason, Isaac didn't mind betting the farm on this technique and diving right beneath Alicia, body kept low to the ground to minimize risk of getting stomped. It was a really close call. He could practically feel the soles of their feet graze. However, he was alive for at least another round.
"Cross Slash!" he shouted as he spun himself back to a standing position. Being able to fire the destructive shockwave at point blank range from behind was a huge opportunity, but Alicia's reaction time was honed as devastatingly as her blade. Would she be able to counter this one last trick?

Alicia grunted a bit as Isaac managed to dodge her falling slash, with cut a fairly large scar into the ground on impact. They were in an odd position, with their backs to each other, but Isaac's speed allowed him to wheel around before the knight dragon could. Understandably, he took advantage of his position behind Alicia to launch a shockwave at her point blank instead of risking her evading by putting distance between them. That would prove to be his undoing.
At this range, even her instinct from the Digimon form and her rapidly honed skill wouldn't allow her to evade or block in time. So instead she went for the trade. In a move that would likely surprise Isaac, she turned into the Cross Slash and dropped her shield. The Cross Slash scored a direct hit on her shoulder, causing Alicia to grunt. Pushing through the pain of the hit, she lashed her now free hand out, gripping Isaac's vest immediately after his attack hit.
"Today goes to me, Isaac." Alicia quipped victoriously, holding him there as she finished turning around, her Steel Prominence already glowing on her ornamental wings. Had this been a real battle, she would've launched the attack immediately, and finished the enemy off with the point blank burst, even if it cost her injury to her arm.
"You know how fast these beams can fire, Isaac. I've certainly used them enough to give you an idea. Tell me, could you have escaped in time to not be crippled by the attack?" She said to the demon swordsman after a few seconds, letting her energy attack fade harmlessly. She was fairly certain the answer was 'no.' "If you can, I'm more then willing to keep going if you are."

Isaac squirmed in Alicia's grip, lifting his arms for another Imp-airvas Alicia charged her Steel Prominence, but he had no idea if he would be fast enough to pull the technique off. That was why he sighed in relief as Alicia dropped the attack, then in turn dropped him. "Not sure," he admitted. "I was going to go for the Imp-air again, but if I flubbed it I'd be toast. Figure it could've gone either way, but I'd really rather not risk getting fried to death if I guessed wrong. You win this one."
He slumped against a cliff, trying to catch his breath and gather his bearings. Seemed like Elliot was better at controlling these new forms than he was, huh? To a degree it left Isaac wondering just what he could do to try and close the gap. Would he be strong enough to protect Elliot, if push came to shove? What about Maia? Her safety was incredibly important to the boy, and he wasn't going to let his subpar technique get her in a dangerous situation.
"How can I get stronger?" he finally brought himself to ask. If anybody was a good judge of improvement, it would be the person he just had a long, high stakes fight with.

Sighing softly, Alicia smiled to Isaac and picked her shield back up, strapping it to it's place on her back and sheathing her blade into it's gem-encrusted scabbard. "That was pretty much your best option from what I've seen and I'd taken that into account. The gamble was one that favored me though. Still, I'm glad this was just a sparring match between friends. I'd rather have not rolled the dice on that if I didn't have to."
The knight dragon took a seat as well, huffing a bit. She was rather winded herself, all things considered. She'd just faced both brothers back to back, and both of them had certainly been challenging opponents for differing reasons. Would anyone else have been able to challenge the both of them and put up such a good fight? Who knows. And then Isaac asks the dread question any long time warrior would be stumped by.
"That... That's a very good question Isaac..." Alicia began, looking away and up into the sky. Lowering her voice, she continue, "Sol, Kisara? Can you two field this question." She felt she didn't have a suitable answer to give to Isaac, so she was hoping her two advisers would be able to shed some light on the situation.
"You're very much right there, Alicia. 'How can I get stronger?' is a question that plagues any who fight to protect a loved one. I know the feeling very well." Sol began. The Steel Spirit then apparently got 'poked' by his icy companion. "What? Wait, are you...?"
"Yes. We're doing this. This kid needs something and it would be best if we fielded this question directly." Kisara answered back with a smirk. Sol just face palmed. "Come now, I know you don't want to just have Alicia repeat what you're saying. Let's have a little fun while we're at it too!"
Alicia then started to openly panic. Being the only one privy to the spirits' conversation, Isaac would be left in the dark for a moment. "H-Hey wait a minute don't I get-" No, No she did not get a say in this. The knight dragon's D-Scanner started to glow softly, releasing mixed green and purple motes of light.
Whirling around a bit, the phantom projections of Sol and Kisara appeared. The draconic phantom, in his heavy metallic armor, leaned against the cliff beside Isaac, transparent but very clearly there. Kisara's phantom, on the other hand appeared to Alicia's left, the SolSaberdramon sighing to herself. Only one thing to do now.
"Okay, quick intros. Isaac, the dragon guy beside you is Sol. Miss winter incarnate here is Kisara. They normally just hang out as voices only I can hear but sometimes now a days they do this to me without my approval." Alicia spoke quickly, knowing the two were on a time limit when they did this.
"Oh you know it's nice to stretch a bit every now and then. But I digress, lets get to the heart of the matter." Kisara answered back, her and Sol's voices audible even to Isaac and possibly Elliot if he'd come to check on the two.
"Indeed, we're a bit pressed for time." Sol reminded in his rough and deep voice. Looking over to Isaac, the dragon continued. "Something you should know, young one. 'Strength' comes in many forms and is relative to the person asking that difficult question. There is Strength of Body, which is likely what you were meaning. Physical power is grand and all and on its own allows for many feats of literal strength. This is the easiest one to attain, simple training and pushing one's limits will suffice if done consistently. Sol began.
Kisara then picked up where the dragon left off. "There is also Strength of Heart, the will to endure hardship for the sake of a beloved one. This too on its own can enable grand feats of a different sort. It is difficult to directly improve upon this strength though without being in a situation where you are given only two choices, give up or continue on against all odds."
"The last Strength is the Strength of Mind." Sol continued, taking the next piece. "More commonly, this is known as wisdom and intellect. It is the ability to analyse and understand a situation and leverage the other two Strengths to their greatest effort. It on its own does not accomplish much, but when used in conjunction with the others, a mighty trinity is born. The only limitation to one's capabilities at this point could very likely be how far they are willing to go to achieve their goals. The dragon nodded to himself, passing off to Kisara.
The ice maiden took the pass in stride, grinning. "The most common scenario is not knowing how powerful you really are until you have to live up to that power. Keep Maia close to your heart and when you really need to go all out, you just might find that power you need welling up inside you! Love, you see, is the greatest enabler of all. And don't deny it Isaac. You love Maia. Anybody who's heard of your interactions or seen you with her knows it. You could write 'I love Maia!' on your forehead and that would be less obvious."
"Indeed, love towards a fiance or love towards a brother can ignite a passion that makes the three Strengths even greater then before. So to answer your question, it is less 'becoming stronger' and more 'discovering the strength you always had'. Keep finding spirit totems as they appear and I assure you that when the time comes, you will be able to protect them as long as you believe in your strength." Sol finished, both phantoms smiling softly to Isaac.
"Oh! By the way, Alicia wanted to know if you ki-" Kisara began, only to get whacked on the head by Alicia's scabbard, the SolSaberdramon panicking again.
"I can wait fo- I mean, I don't c- I mean... gaaaaaaah!" Alicia babbled a bit incoherently, caught off guard by Kisara's sudden attempted question, trying to salvage the situation into some knid of apparent seriousness again. Kisara, for having just been swatted by a sheathed sword, was just smirking victoriously.

Isaac had no idea what to expect when Alicia invoked Sol and another name he didn't recognize. Certainly, he didn't expect the dead manifesting themselves back into the world of the living just to give him advice. Elliot's jaw dropped as he ran up to listen as well, while Isaac simply looked between the two in shock. "Oh my god, this is a thing that's happening," he mumbled, torn between confusion and astonishment at what had just happened. What kind of advice would these ancient, noble warriors, so powerful that their essences lived on in the form of ancient spirits, have for him? The answer may have proved surprising.
The three different strengths made sense to Isaac. The willpower to dare to do the impossible, the power to enact said will onto the world, and the cleverness to glean how to best apply said strength. Already he could apply them to different situations he had encountered in his life. Like when he KO'd one of the great Gintama's goons with a book. Seeing anyone dare to put a hand on his brother motivated him to just enter a battle fury. Strength, somehow, manifested through enough force to smash a guy into a knockout blow. Mind? Okay, no, it was an incredible awful idea. That was more like the secret fourth strength of dumb, blind luck. Still, Sol and Kisara's words made sense, and as they started talking again he eagerly listened to see what other wonderful advice they had for him.
And then they started doing this crap. Elliot found himself falling over from laughter, as Isaac started faintly blushing. They kept talking no matter what he did to try and interrupt them, from frantic "stop the feed please do not keep talking" hand motions to trying to talk over their increasingly ludicrous accusations.
Love, you see, is the greatest enabler of all-
"N-not true! I just don't want to see my friend get hurt, that's all," he protested.
Anybody who's heard of your interactions or seen you with her knows it-
"Are you guys spying on me? You've never even seen me with her!"
love towards a fiance-
"I just met her! What the hell man? What the actual hell?"
"Oh! By the way, Alicia wanted to know if you ki-"
"Okay! We're stopping this now!" Thankfully, it seemed like Alicia had the same idea as him, although by taking the more direct approach of whacking her own spirit upside the head with the scabbard of her sword. Still, poor Isaac was left absolutely speechless, and by now was glowing as red as a stop sign. "Are they always like this?" he asked, tripping over his words as if he had both of his feet tied together. "Did you put them up to this or something? Because two words: not cool!"
Elliot had laughed too hard, and seemed in danger of ascending out of this plane of existence. He picked himself off of the floor, coughing a little as he tried to regain control of his lungs.

At the accusation that Alicia had put Sol and Kisara up to this, all three of them suddenly jabbed their fingers accusingly. Normally such a scene would result in each of the three passing blame on to the next one in the chain and shouting out reasons as to why one person was at fault over another, etc, etc.
What actually happened is that all three were pointing at Kisara, including the ice maiden herself. "Nope! This incident of unrelenting teasing brought to you by one little ice maiden. I just goaded my dear Sol into helping out. He's such a softie some times." The icy phantom giggled and walked over to Sol, leaning against him.
The dragon phantom rolled his eyes and smiled, hugging Kisara close. "Anyways, kid?" he began, addressing Isaac again. "Trust me. It's all but done. I can see it already, you're head over heels for Maia. Can you really look me in the eyes and tell me taking care of Maia wasn't on your mind when you asked Alicia that question?" Sol smiled at Isaac after that, quirking his eyebrow knowingly.
"Besides... you remind me a lot of my early years..." Oh? That was unexpected. "I'm only going along with this teasing cause I've walked that path before. Being obviously smitten at first sight and rejecting the possibility out of hand like that, worried about taking that next step..."
Kisara reached up and rapped her knuckles on Sol's head, the dragon turning to her in response. The two smiled at each other, sharing some silent words with each other. "Silly dragon..." Kisara mused quietly. Maybe not entirely silent. The Steel Spirit chuckled, before looking skyward.
"Chase the love of your heart, kid..." Sol noted. "You have a bright future ahead of you. Let her be the brightest star of all in it. You may even find that circumstances conspire to give you the chance to see your love through. Don't make my mistakes. Don't let her slip through your arms while you're not looking."
"Yeah, you don't want to be known as the guy who needed his girl to make the first move, right?" Kisara chipped in, digging her elbow into Sol's side. The dragon seemed to lose his composure, stuttering a bit and averting his gaze. Was that a blush on the ancient warrior's cheeks!? Seemed even ancient spirits were not immune to teasing.

Isaac tried taking the steel dragon spirit up on his challenge. He completely failed. As the boy tried to open his mouth to speak he found himself very strongly focusing on the cliffside behind Sol instead of Sol himself. He had been utterly defeated. At least it helped him feel less bad about it when he learned that Sol had grappled with the same problem. And look at the happy couple now! They got to spend eternity together. Which was still a really huge concept for Isaac to wrap his head around.
However, as he tried to accept the advice of these benefactors from above, the cold feet came back in full force. "But what if we're going to be so far away from each other? I'm only gonna be here for the next four days or so. And I'm too young looking. And she's such a good friend. What if I just end up driving her away? I don't want to scare her off just because I've got some dumb crush. Ugh, this is all moving so fast." Maybe Sol would recognize the majority of these excuses. Regardless, it was clear that confidence was not on Isaac's side today.
Of course, he sure as heck didn't expect today to go like this! Why did these ancient warriors have such a sense of humor?

The Steel Spirit coughed a bit, clearing his throat so that he could center himself again. To be jabbed at by Kisara was unexpected and it almost caused him to miss things. "Well then. Allow me to shoot down as many of those reasons as I can. One, distance only means anything to love if you allow it to. Two, make every day count then. Three, if she's not treating you like a kid, right? That's already a nail in the coffin for that excuse. Four, you'll only drive her away if you disrespect her and try to trample over her feelings. That's something I strongly believe you would never do. Five, better to speak your mind in and be courteous about it then to live the rest of your life in misery wondering 'what if'. And believe me, sometimes things are meant to move fast, faster then you can reasonably prepare for."
Kisara smiled and giggled. "Besides! Alicia already put so many good words in for you with Maia!" Wait what!? Alicia perked up at suddenly being mentioned. Once she realized why, the knight dragon flushed and shook her head rapidly, trying to get Kisara's attention and get her to cut it out. No luck though. "Poor Maia was so caught off guard by it too, but it went well! You should really thank Elliot for letting the cat out of the bag back on the Trailmon! Heh, we're kind of playing match maker with the next generation now that I think about it, huh?"
At this point Alicia just gave up and slumped down to her knees, tilting her head to one side. If this were an anime she'd probably have rivers of tears from her eyes and maybe a little ghost floating around nearby. "Why me...?" she asked no one in particular, getting Kisara to snicker.
"You are an ever devious woman, Kisara..." Sol mused, rolling his eyes.

The magical talking dragon man gave wonderful advice about Isaac's love life, and in that one sentence Isaac saw any illusion that he was living a normal life get flushed right down the drain. This was it. This was how his life would be now. When your friend can summon magical projections of ancient warriors to encourage you to ask out yorlur hopeless crush, you're either nuts or getting inducted into one hell of a cult. Isaac was slowly becoming more resigned to his fate that there was no turning back to ordinary days. Not after this.
His thoughts were interrupted by the telltale noise of burning rubber, because Alicia had just gotten thrown right under the bus. The boy reddened a little in shock and embarrassment, unsure if his irritation was aimed more at Alicia for spilling the beans or Elliot for causing this whole mess in the first place. Of course, he couldn't stay mad at either of them, but for now he made himself a very firm reminder to kick Elliot's butt for this. Elliot must have had the same thought, however, because he made himself scarce in the blink of an eye. It always left Isaac amazed just how fast his brother could run despite the bad leg. If the incident never happened, he could've been a terrific athlete.
"What. What did you even say?" Isaac asked. It wasn't clear if he was indignantly demanding answers or if he was trying to learn the more than likely false compliments Alicia told Maia about him. Either way, it was clear that Alicia's intervention had majorly thrown a wrinkle into Isaac's plans. It seemed like taking it slow wouldn't even be an option anymore.

Alicia groaned as Isaac leveled his questions at her after the ice maiden chucked her out to the street to get run over multiple times. She didn't even let the Spirit User put some carpet down with how abrupt the throw was! That might have at least made this bit not quite so soul crushing. "Kisara's blowing it up to seem like a lot more then it actually was..." Alicia moaned out as she flopped down onto her face. To hear the knight dragon sound so exasperated and downtrodden was a bit of a surprise considering the start of this meeting.
"Besides..." she continue, turning her head a bit so she wasn't muffled by the ground. "It was more nudging her to give you the fair shot you deserve and being patient if something went wrong. We're all only human after all, everyone makes a mistake. I clued her in to the obvious depth of your feelings, though she might have already known it. In other words I was basically paving the road to give you a shot and helping get you a second chance if you do muck something up. Little things."
"But I'm sure you wanted to-" Kisara began, only for the SolSaberdramon to whip the tip of her tail into the icy phantom's shin, causing Kisara to jump and yelp. "Ow! Okay, then. Sheesh." Another thing ancient spirits apparently did was pout adorably when their fun was ruined, as Kisara demonstrated.
"Ah... Kisara, our time is starting to wind down..." Sol noted, sighing softly. "It was good to properly meet you, Isaac. I believe we have enough time for one more round of comments and questions if you so desire. And of course if push comes to shove we can relay answers through Alicia if we can't summon up these phantom forms again."
"Huh, time really does fly fast..." Kisara mused, shaking her head.

Isaac was glad to see that he wasn't the only person currently dying of embarrassment today. Part of him was a little sad to see someone with a spirit as strong as Alicia's so bashful and defeated, but another part of him figured that hey, misery loves company. It was a shame she interrupted Kisara, though. If Alicia didn't want him to know what was being said, that meant it was extra important to know it!
Still, he was glad Alicia covered for him. The fact that he would totally screw this up somehow was the biggest worry hanging over his head. After all, he was the younger of the pair, a little impulsive, and prone to overthinking in even the best of times. He was afraid that combo would lead to Maia never noticing him and how he felt, even if he tried his best to win her over. Knowing Alicia was vouching for him was at the very least reassuring. He knew he could trust her.
Of course, now Isaac was in a pickle. Questions pressing to the Digital World and questions pressing to his crush were both at the forefront of his mind, but judging by what the spirits said they were only able to answer maybe one or two more questions. He decided to pick the two most important to him and go with it from there. "It was great meeting you two as well. I'll try to make these next few quick. First, how exactly do my spirits work in the first place? Secondly, just what were you going to say before Alicia cut you off?"
What comes around goes around, Alicia. And in this case, it was the wheels on the bus going round and round.
