Can a tree be annoying? (Elliot & Isaac)

"Trees... trees... trees to the left... trees to the right... trees everywhere... why are there so many trees... AND WHY'D I'D HAVE TO GET LOST ALL OVER AGAIN! It was just a bathroom break, nothing more than that. How the heck do you get lost on a bath room break? To be fair, no news stalls. You can't go to the joe without some light reading, you know?"
It seemed that, somehow, against all odds, she found herself lost and on her own again. With a sigh of defeat, she wandered through the familiar woods.
"No guides, no people, no friendly monsters..." she groaned to herself, slouching exaggeratedly as she wandered onward. She pulled out her digivice and sighed at the pathetic sight of it.
"... No super powers even though I'm supposed to have them... to be fair, this things is probably trying it's hardest to tell me what I need to do and I just can't hear it... if only I spoke digital... oh well, maybe I'll figure things out as I head onward. Until then, here's to hoping all goes well..." With that, she put her device away and continued slouch walking.
"Give me something to get me out of this fricking place, pleeeeeaaaaaaseeeee... No more trees for a year, I'll trade anything for that!" She thought about what she was saying.
"Almost anything for that!" she quickly corrected.

"Of all the rotten luck. I can't believe we let that thing get away. I mean, there were two of us!"
"By the time I shifted form to chase it, it had already burrowed so far away from us. I would've never been able to track it that far. Especially when it diverted us right into a Prairiemon nest."
"Yeah. You looked ridiculous, bro. Just this giant snake flailing around and shouting as a bunch of prairie dogs started hanging off of its jaw."
"Man, you're one to talk. When it lured you into the Cherrymon grove and you nearly got your head taken off?"
"Hey, I did get my head taken off! At least two of them."
"Our armor forms really aren't cutting it anymore, huh?"
"I mean, we got these new forms, right? Maybe it's about time we start trying them out."
"Can we do it later? We've been hunting this flower for half the day. I'm getting really tired."
"Okay, okay. But six in the morning for training, sharp."
"Wish you'd wake up that early for school sometimes."
"That's what I've got little brothers for."
Elliot softly punched his brother in the arm, the two laughing and joking around as they rested within the branches of a large tree. They were covered in bruises, scrapes, and even a few petals from the rough series of encounters they had found today. It was just supposed to be a bit of pest control. Basic hero stuff. Why the heck was the tiny little flower picking on the local Minomon so stupidly tough? Nevertheless, they at least had it on the ropes, and it seemed to have hidden away today to lick its wounds. Tomorrow they could come back fresh from the fight and get to work on fighting that flower off. This time, they would actually be prepared for what it could do.
Unfortunately, the branch wasn't exactly prepared to handle the full weight of the bros. While it had seemed perfectly sturdy, there was a little cracking noise that Isaac couldn't help but ignore. At first it was too quiet for him to notice, but now it was an incessant creak that was starting to drive him insane. He figured it was a frog at first, but as it grew louder and more distinctively he realized that he was about to have an appointment with gravity. "Elliot, look out!" he shouted, but as soon as he warned his brother the creak turned into a splintering crack.
The brothers fell face-first onto the ground, right in front of a very agitated girl. Hopefully she wouldn't trip on them!

As luck would have it, she didn't trip on them. In fact, she hoped over both of them, one after the other.
"And there are falling random objects too..." she groaned as she continued her walk. "Uuuuugh, I'm tired, I need a rest..."
And with that, she leaned back and fell on both of them, intentionally using them as a pseudo bed and pillow.
"Lumpiest pillow and bed ever, but beggars can't be choosers," she groaned as she continued to lay down on the two.

Elliot and Isaac let out sighs of relief as someone hopped over them. That was a close one. If whoever as approaching had been a bit less careful, they would've been stepped on! Unfortunately, what came next would've made getting stepped on preferable by comparison. She abruptly stopped, started leaning back, and then fell right on top of them. Elliot let out a wheeze like a dry sack of flour, and Isaac let out a small yelp of protest. What the heck just happened?
And to make things worse, then their value as pillows was insulted! How dare she?
"Oh come on, seriously?" Isaac asked as he was suddenly landed on.
"Uh, could you please not lay on us?" Elliot asked. He was blushing a little from the embarrassment of it all, but moreso deeply uncomfortable from being pinned down between the newcomer and Isaac. He had fallen just a bit more slowly than his brother, so that meant he was basically sandwiched between a mess of elbows and hip bones. He wiggled slightly, trying to get out from between the pile.

"And why would I want to do that? You guys generally like being laid down on- you're not a bed and pillow," said Lucero, looking down at the two with a look of confusion.
Suddenly, the story made more sense. They weren't objects, they were people. And they were likely lost, like she was. Most of all, they probably tripped on something and fell in front of her by accident. The only reason she didn't trip is because she's used to things randomly falling in front of her. There were much to avoid when trying to clean out an entire Shrine Temple, especially when she herself forgets to put her own tools away.
She still didn't get up, though.
"Why in the world would you guys complain if you decided to try being a bed and pillow set?" She'd asked them.

"Gee, you think?" Isaac said, voice as dry as the desert. Of course they weren't pillows! How the heck would anyone even come to that conclusion? But at least with her observation, she'd be getting off of them. Right?
. . . Right?
Apparently not. In fact, she was asking why they were complaining about it. Isaac sighed deeply, wondering why his day was taking this turn. He just wanted to help some Digimon out, then go home. Now it was getting more frustrating by the minute, and he forced himself to bite his tongue hard and count to ten. It was all he could do to resist his blood pressure spiking.
Elliot was a bit more understanding. "Wait, what?" he asked, very confused. "Oh, no. We didn't do anything like that. We just fell out of the tree up there, and before we could get back up you kinda sorta sat on us.
Who are you, by the way?"
Isaac sighed. Was Elliot really going to strike up a conversation with someone who was in the middle of sitting on them? Now she was never going to get back up!

"You fell out of a tree? I'm more inclined to believe that the tree kicked you out. I'm sure trees don't always like it when you climb on them. I mean, do you like it when a spider climbs on you?"
She actually paused to give them a chance to reply.
Then she remembered that she was asked another question.
"Oh, Lucero Kawashiki! Hopelessly lost and completely unable to- say, maybe you guys might know something. Do you know how to make this work?" Why she decided that it was a good idea to show them her digivice was beyond her, really. She seemed to assume that random human in a world of digital monsters meant that they had one of these. She met at least one other human who had something similar, anyway.
Sadly, she also seemed to have gotten rather comfortable on her spot a-top the pile.

Well, it broke a branch in order to knock them loose, so if it was trying to kick them out it certainly picked a very self-spiting way to do that. However, Isaac decided not to tell this stranger that little tidbit. Judging by what she was saying about the tree before, she'd probably try and break his arm to make up for the broken branch.
"Oh! No, we already dealt with a living tree today," Elliot said, a little confused. "We made sure this one wasn't first. When you're in the Digital World it's always good to check, after all.
Anyway, nice to meet you! I'm Elliot, and this is my brother Isaac. Can you please stop laying on us, though? Your elbow's starting to really dig into my neck . . ." How could anyone say no to that poor, pained voice?
Then she flashed her Digivice, and Isaac nodded in recognition. It looked just like his and Elliot's in all but color. "Alright, I know how this works. Is it beeping?" Isaac asked, curious. "That's letting you know how close you are to a spirit. It starts beeping once you're close enough, and then it'll keep getting faster until you're right on top of the thing. They're scattered all over the Digital World, usually in whatever place is most relevant to your spirit's element.
They turn you into Digimon when you activate them. Just a warning, it's really confusing the first time that happens."
"Are you here because you're looking for one? Or are you having some other kind of trouble?"

While it was very useful information, it wasn't the information she was looking for.
Well, that tells me how it works, but it doesn't tell me how to make it work... she thought irritably. These two weren't really giving her much information to work with. Maybe it's because she's on top of them?
Well, she knew better than to keep making someone hurt, even if it was kind of cute. She hoped right off and got back to her feet.
"Well, that tells me how it works, but... how do you turn it on? I've tried everything I could to get it to work! I tried pushing buttons, holding it in the air, begging, pleading, senppuku (don't fake it, it sees right through your lies), nothing I do gets it to turn on. Do I need to charge it?"

"Thank you," Elliot said softly, fumbling for his walking stick to try and help peel himself off of the floor. He was sore all over his body, but at least now he was free. Isaac had far more luck picking himself up, springing to his feet and helping his brother up afterwards. Once finally standing Elliot meticulously dusted himself off, his inner neat freak screaming in agony at all of the dirt and dust he was covered in.
Isaac listened to Lucero's complaint, blinking. "Oh, you don't mean how to use it. You mean how to use it," Isaac said, shifting his inflection to indicate he understood he took her request the wrong way. "Hold on. We can show you. Elliot?"
Elliot took a few steps back and held his Digivice high. "First, you're gonna have to make sure you've got this with you at all times. Sadly, we don't get to have that 'The power was with you all along!" moment. We lose this here, we're in trouble.
The Digivice started to glow in Elliot's hand, softly at first but soon casting a bright white light. "Next, you have to focus on the Digivice really hard. Visualize it. Close your eyes. Dig deep into it. This can be insanely hard to do the first time. Usually it helps being in a ton of danger first. Just desperately reaching out and grabbing onto that power. But once you've done it a few times, it becomes like flipping a switch in your brain."
A white light began to fully encase his body. "And then you just let go." He let the light overwhelm him, and beneath the veil of light his body changed. Where Elliot once stood, now Strikedramon was standing tall.
"And that's how you Digivolve! Pretty cool, huh?"

"Whoa," was the reply she was able to give to the sight of a digivolution. A human being turned into a digital being! It was almost like becoming a spirit, in a way.
It made her quite excited.
"So I just have to reach out until I can feel it, huh?" She replied, happy with this new information! "Okay, here goes!"
With that, she imitated their posture and closed her eyes, focusing on the digivice.
And focused.
Aaaaand focused...
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand she lost her focused.
"Why doesn't this thing want to cooperate with me friggin fraggin froggin I swear to all the frogs in our pound I will figure you out of that I promise!!!" At least now she knew why she wasn't able to get it to work. She's basically not on the same wavelength as it.
"I'll figure it out later," she groaned, "I need to get going if I'm ever going to try and get out of here... you guys wouldn't happen to know where the exit is, would you?"

"Oh." Elliot frowned a little at Lucero's frustrations. He knew it was incredibly hard to Spirit Digivolve, but he also couldn't shake the feeling that he had failed as a teacher in a way. "It's really tough getting the hang of it, if it helps. I'm sorry, I wish I was better at explaining."
However, that was enough of Digivices. Isaac heard something far more pressing, and it was the fact that the person they were talking to was completely lost. It would certainly explain why she was stalking around the forest and grumbling at nothing in particular. And here he thought she was just some deranged forest spirit. "The exit? I mean, its a forest. It might feel like it, but it doesn't stretch on forever. Walk enough in one direction and you'll be out of the woods soon enough.
Now, if you're looking for specific directions, we can help you there too. Head East, and you'll eventually hit the Village of Beginnings. It's a little village full of tiny baby Digimon. They're usually pretty hospitable, but once it's nighttime you'd better be careful. Westward's the Mainframe Hills. That's the border between the Network Plains and the forest. That's where you'll want to head if you're trying to get back to Terminus City. There's a training grounds down south with some food and water, but the guy who runs it is the suspicious type. He'll be keeping an eye out on anyone who hasn't proven their stripes to him yet. And north?" Isaac shuddered a little, remembering the mostly abandoned mansion and the ominous maze that stretched behind it.
"Don't go north."
"We can help show you the way, if you want," Elliot offered. For someone who had just been Lucero's chair, he was being quite forgiving and helpful right now.

"Oh don't worry to much about it," Lucero offered the two, "It's not you, it's Digi. Digi doesn't think I'm ready yet, so I have to try and figure out how to prove myself to them."
The directions they gave were... unfortunately not what she was hoping for, but they were definitely rather helpful.
"So, a village of baby's, Mainframe Hills to get to Terminus City, a training grounds, and don't go north, got it. I should probably head to Mainframe then to Terminus. I should get worlds of information there! Sooo, um... which way is west? Or do digivices come with their own campus function- no wait, not gonna help me, mine refuses to turn on. I'm sure the battery is good, I sort of recently got it too. Saaaay, that brings up a question... how are you guys lost here if you know your way around? You look like you're bumbling your way around here..."

"B-bumbling!?" That caught Isaac off guard. He and his bro are busting their butts trying to show this stranger how the Digital World works, and she thanks them by continuing to disrespect them? He could feel a nerve twitch in his head as he realized just how tiring some people could be. After this, he'd have to find Kuu and apologize for everything he'd said before.
"We were trying to help protect the Village of Beginnings. Something really big and tough was bullying around the Digimon there, so we went over to fight it off. It was a lot smarter than we expected," Elliot explained. His voice sighed with the stress of five wild goose chases. "We're pretty sure it's leaving the Village alone for now, but we chased that thing through, like, the whole Eastern Timberlands first." Maybe at some point the Blossomon would come back, but for now Elliot was just glad the threat was gone.
Isaac, still taking great exception to Lucero's comments, decided to show her just how bumbling he was. He thrust his Digivice into the air wordlessly, black and red flames wreathing around him. Two red eyes opened in the darkness, and with a flap of wings the swirling flames were cast away to reveal Devidramon. Thankfully the flames were just special effects, and harmlessly dissipated upon being dispelled, or that would've been a really risky move in the forest! Wordlessly, Isaac flew into the sky, crashing through the treeline to get a better view of the area.
After a few seconds he returned, hand extended back in the direction Lucero had walked from. "Mainframe Hills are that-a-way," he said, in a tone that asked "Who's bumbling now, huh!?"

It seemed Isaac may have gotten a positive result out of Lucero. She found herself clapping at the display that was made.
"Oh, that was rather helpful of you!" She replied with a smile, "Ah, I think I see your mechanic, and the benefits that come from it!" She then pointed, first to Isaac, then to Elliot.
"Red Oni, Blue Oni!" Well, it was a compliment in her mind. Such duos usually bring out the best (or worst) in each other.
