A Light in the Depths [Hunt] (Alicia/Maia/Mitsuko)

Alicia hummed, content to listen for a bit as her friends traded some notes on their partners’ eccentricities for a bit. Then to her shock Mitsuko suddenly wheeled on her at the mention of Kai and his partners. She knew them too? Small world indeed. “Ah, yeah… well I saw him once. He helped me get started too, and came with me so his partners could safeguard me while I was scouring for my very first spirit totem. He… didn’t look all that well though, like he’d just gotten out of the hospital. His chest was still heavily bandaged up.” That would probably tip Mitsuko off that this was from the moment the boy was put into the hospital after that Digimon wolf attacking him… “I… haven’t seen him since.”
Kisara glanced over at Tokomon in turn and smiled softly. ”Yeah, I know… I’m usually warmer than this though…” she mused softly, curious. What was making her so darn chilly…? The only thing she could think of was that there was that there was an ice elemental around but no one she could see fit that description…
Meanwhile, Sol broke out laughing, looking to Maia. ”No, I wouldn’t be so cruel as to pop some kind of test all of a sudden. Forgive me as I do tend to ramble on given the chance.” And then he looked over to the silverette, smiling. ”Rudimentary or not, Mitsuko, it’s more than most of us can claim knowledge of. And who knows, one day it may save a life.”
Alicia suddenly paused, a kind of instinct tripping off of something. Turning to one of the ice stalagmites, she only had a moment to witness it changing shape… into a white and rocky humanoid body with eyes. And those eyes looked crazed, as if the mind behind them had snapped long ago. “Look out! We’ve got company!” Alicia called in alert as the frosty Digimon lunged at her, prompting her to lift one of her arms and swat the monster away. Three more icy stalagmites transformed similarly, cutting off the way back as they circled behind the group.
”Guys! Behind you!” Sol called out in warning, the only thing he could do as a spirit before he and Kisara went transparent to get out of everyone’s way. ”Take care! We’re of no use to anyone in a combat situation…” And with that the two spirits returned to the confines of Alicia’s mind. And as the Icemon appeared, the energy seemed to pulse faster, as if something was coming closer in response to these Champions waking up. They should probably wrap this up fairly quickly…

"Keep toilets unavailable to your partner, when unattended," was the best advice Maia felt she could ever give someone. "Kuu's gotten stuck in them before, and it is an experience I never want you to have to deal with." Nobody wants to pull a monster out of a toilet! It was just messed up on so many levels!
It really sounded like everyone knew Kai, though! Had Maia met someone that hadn't? That boy certainly got around. "Kai's my neighbor," she hummed. Maybe Kai actually was some sort of weird Digimon-provider! After all, he was the first person that Maia had encountered when Digimon had entered her life. And, Alicia's story involved early-on Digimon-adventures. "He's doing fine. I just saw him at school the other day." Though, she couldn't say much beyond that. It wasn't like Kai seemed actually fond of her.
But, oh, thank goodness. There wouldn't be any tests. "Biology isn't my strongest suit, let alone the Digital type," she admitted. Sure, it wasn't her worst subject, but it never really felt like a priority for the blonde!
Tokoko's wiper ears seemed to do the trick, as Kuu cheered a, "yay! I can see again!" Sort of! It wasn't really like the Reppamon could see well to begin with! Masks were giant blind spots! But, at least it wasn't foggy!
"I hope they continue that," Maia nodded to Mitsuko. Kuu could probably use to have partners other than Elliot and Shiro. Digimon needed proper friends, too! Probably. The tamer couldn't say with entire certainty. Digimon were weird.
Just like those ice monsters!
Maia was quick to move closer to Mitsuko, trying to avoid risking the other girl getting hurt. Sure, she wasn't much better off, but Maia wasn't going to just let a new girl get hurt! "Can Tokomon digivolve?" While there was a chance that the answer was no, it was still an obligatory question. "Either way, please let the Digimon do the work, and don't become a target." The blonde really had no room to talk there, either! She'd literally thrown rocks at monsters before! But at least the teen knew what was just bad advice, and how not to give it.
Kuu spun to analyse the amount of Icemon that had formed. "Tokoko! Hold on tight if you wanna stay on!" At least Reppamon knew to give warnings before he moved too much! Trying not to risk losing Tokoko this early in the game, the Digimon picked a move more carefully, facing an Icemon that wouldn't catch the tamers in any crossfire. Wagging his tail, the Digimon announced, "Vacuum Razor Wind!" With a small gust of wind, an invisible blade rippled toward the enemy Digimon. This just wasn't an ideal place for a fight, as far as Kuu was concerned! But, that didn't mean he'd go easy on anyone, unless he was told to. After all, he'd just attacked something without entire certainty that it was going to hurt him! ...Good thing that Champion versus Champion wouldn't have some sort of attack that could really break one another in one blow.
Except that one time, with Porcupamon. But, that was a totally different situation. Plushies and ice-rocks were two totally different reactions when hit with something sharp.
"Alicia! You got any ideas?"

"I could see how that could be potentially problematic." The Silverette mused, as she eyed her pink partner, shivering at the thought... or was it the cold? The errant thought never got much further as she heard Alicia recount her story. It fit the timeline of when she had met Kai. He had been severely bandaged, stuck in the hospital. Perhaps most tamers and spirit users knew each other after all. Mitsuko felt her smile falter, as Alicia admitted not seeing him for a while. However that was only momentarily, when Maia admitted that Kai was her ... wait what?! Kai was okay! At least that was some good news. Mitsuko had been worried, since he disappeared without a trace.
The musician smiled at Sol's remark, that she could possibly be of use somehow, someday. Oddly enough it was a comforting though. Maybe Mitsuko was meant to be here. After receiving her Digivice, she often wondered if she was the end of some digital joke. But after meeting her partner, she knew great things were in store for them both. "Yeah, Biology is..." Mitsuko paused. "Useful, but not really my strong suit either. At my private school, I am in an accelerated music program. Useful, probably not, but it is fun." The silverette laughed with Kuu and Tokomon, as he was able to use the makeshift windshield wipers. Sort of. "I hope so too. Something tells me they will be inseparable." Mitsuko giggled softly. Her giggle broken off by Alicia's and Sol's warning cry.
Mitsuko watched as the rock forms changed their shape. The crazed look chilled Mitsuko to the bone. She feared that something like this would happen. Maia was quick to Mitsuko's side, she knew that Maia was putting herself in danger as well, but she also knew that Maia had experience as well. Mitsuko took a tentative step towards her partner as she shot him a panicked. If he gets hurt... Mitsuko banished the thought with a quick shake of her head. No. We are in this together. We will be okay!
"I... I don't know!" Mitsuko stammered. She had only seen him digivolve once, after some food and rest. Could he do it again? "Right, we will try to stay safe. Just watch out for yourself as well." Mitsuko eyed Maia, if something happened to the blonde because of her, Mitsuko would feel awful! The musician's eyes scanned the room, trying to take in any details they may have not noticed before. Was there something here that could help them?
Tokomon dug his little feet deep into Kuu's fur. "I'm not going anywhere." He said bravely. "Can't get rid of me that easily!" He felt the Reppamon move his tail, and a brush of wind surround them, as it shot off towards the enemy. "I've gotta do something to help!" The small pink digimon said, looking around, he spotted Mitsuko, and gave her a nod. "Don't worry, I'll be okay. Just let me help. Don't be afraid!" Mitsuko was stunned for a moment. He knew exactly how she felt. If her new partner could have that much courage and faith in her, she could return the favor. Mitsuko dug into a special pocket in her bag, her hands gripped the cool metal of her Digivice. As soon as her fingers made contact, it started beeping, and glowing a soft golden light. "Tokomon!" Mitsuko cried out.
"Guess it's my time to shine!" Tokomon quipped as he lept out of Kuu's furry nest. The golden light of Digivolution encompassed him.
"Tokomon digivolve to... Patamon!"
Where once an adorable pink digimon had been flying through the air, a cute orange and tan digimon was hovering, beating over sized, wing-like ears. "Guess I could Digivolve afterall. Thanks Suki-chan! So... Does this make me Patatata now?" Patamon winked at his partner. Now wasn't the time for bonding. It was game time. Patamon turned his attention back to the Icemon that Kuu had attacked. Patamon yelled "Boom bubble!" as he swelled up in size, and shot out a wind-like bullet at his target. Rookie versus a Champion. Not good odds, but a Rookie AND a champion against one Champion... better odds!

To say she was surprised that there was something waiting down here to ambush them would be a lie. Delving into convoluted caves like this was basically begging for something to come around and attack you. She was most certainly frustrated with it though, rushing over to help cover Maia and Mitsuko from attack.
Unfortunately for Kuu, striking a heavily packed ice-rock monster with wind attacks generally didn’t go well. At least as the gust hit the Icemon, it caused a decent gash in the monster’s body, the poor thing too far gone to even care much about getting hurt. That was when the newly evolved Patamon’s Boom Bubble scored a follow up hit, breaking the crack wider and pulling a pained cry from the monster’s inorganic throat.
With the serious injury, the Icemon pulled back with an aggravated snarl, while the remaining three settled into place in front of it so that it could recover. Alicia glanced around as well in the brief lull in combat, but unfortunately the cave wasn’t offering much up in the way of easily used advantages. At least, if Mitsuko and Patamon had been alone that is. “Keep focusing each one down as they come! I’ll use my abilities to keep them off everyone’s backs and try to create some extra opportunities.”
With eerie synchronicity, all the Icemon, even the injured one, struck as one. They built up orbs of ice in their hands and hurled the make shift projectiles at the group like demented snowballs. But Alicia was having none of that, her mercurial body glowing and bubbling a bit as she built up the heat necessary for her counterattack.
“Scalding Metal!” She howled, craning her head back, before lashing it forward and spewing a terrible gout of heated mercury. And at well over six hundred degrees Fahrenheit it provided both some much needed warmth in the area as well as an effective weapon against the Icemon. She angled her shot to catch the balls of ice, which melted near instantly upon contact before her attack carried on to the retreating mons. One was a bit to slow and screamed as he was doused in the heated metal. The power of a fractional Ultimate against a champion, especially with the former’s attack hitting an inherent weakness… was truly devastating as the Icemon’s body quickly began to melt down.
That one leaped away from the now cooling mass and rolled frantically on the ground to get the mercury that landed on him off as well as cool his body off on the icy earth. With that an opportunity presented itself and Alicia lashed out at the ceiling with one hand thinned down. It cleaved through most of the ice in the surrounding stalactites with easy, enough to make them treacherous for their enemies to stand under, but easily employed improvised weapons for Kuu and Patamon to use via an extra ranged attack at the right moment. Hopefully Maia and Mitsuko noticed and could tell their partners, she didn’t have the time to enlighten them.

Mitsuko went to private school? That... actually explained a lot. Such as why Maia had never even glimpsed this girl in the hallways, before! And, maybe why she seemed more friendly than a lot of students in public school. Not to say that some weren't! Though, going to a school dedicated to what she probably wanted to go into as some sort of career? That was admirable. Maia still wasn't entirely sure what to do after school, after all.
Watching the digivolution of a newer tamer felt just weird, at this point. It was way too familiar feeling to when Kuu reached Champion. But, of course, Mitsuko seemed more willing to step up to the plate than Maia ever was. And, probably ever would be. Maybe, the blonde needed to fix that. But, right now, it wasn't the issue, and she really needed to work on keeping her head in the game!
Amber eyes shifted to Mitsuko, while providing a warm smile. "Good job," she encouraged, softly. After all, every tamer needed to hear that they were actually making a difference. If not, they risked withering away, along with their partner, in a sense. And, the silverette was too friendly not to want to encourage!
"Yes!" Kuu agreed with the name change. "You are now dubbed: Patatata!" But, hopefully he wouldn't have to remember any other nicknames! Patatata was unforgettable, yes, but whatever it turned into next? That might be harder to make into fun words! Taking a step forward, the Reppamon hesitated, as he heard ice crackling above. Hm. That didn't necessarily sound like a safe whatever-it-was!

The newly digivolved Patamon cheered as the combined effects of Kuu's and his attack damaged their target "Yeah, that's what I'm talkin about!" Mitsuko watched her partner in part worry, and part awe. Here he was, putting his life on the line for her... yet he was confident in their abilities. The silverette nodded at Alicia's command. Together, they could do this! "Alright Patamon, you heard Alicia!" Patamon nodded, keeping his eyes on the Icemon. "Uh oh, this isn't good..." Patamon started as the Icemon began their assault. However his worry was brief as Alicia melted their attack, and an unfortunate Icemon in the same breath. "Nice work Merc-er- uh... Aliciamon! Thanks for the help!" Patamon quipped.
Mitsuko was surprised at Maia's praise "T-thank you!" She stammered, "It was a combined effort though. Thank you for the opening!" Mitsuko gave Maia a warm smile in return. Patamon hovered near Kuu, "Hey big guy, I see the wheels turning. Don't worry about remembering my name. I'll always be your Tokokoko!" He said with a quick wink. Mitsuko suppressed the urge to roll her eyes at her partner. They were in the thick of battle, and he was cracking jokes?! Her deep blue eyes widened in shock as Alicia cleaved through the ice on the stalactites. "Patamon!"
"Already on it." Patamon heard the cracking ice and a grin spread across his face. "Hey Kuu, heads up!" Patamon hinted to the Champion level digimon. "I bet we can bring the roof down." Patamon then turned his attention back to the Icemon. "Hey, Frosty, you couldn't hit the broad side of a mountain. Maybe you should move in. Have a better chance at hitting something other than air!" Patamon taunted the Icemon, as he stuck his tongue out at them. He hoped the tactic would work. They just needed to move a little more into position, then he and Kuu could use the opportunity Alicia gave them. Hopefully, Alicia could prevent them from escaping, if they didn't take the bait! Or... deflect their attacks again, if they did take the bait...

“Don’t worry too much about names in a stressful situation like this!” Alicia called to both Kuu and Patamon. “We can get things sorted out later!” Like after they were done throwing down here! However, it seemed the Icemon were angered by the little Rookie’s taunting, as they pulled close enough to be underneath the damaged stalactites. What they did though, would’ve made actually employing the plan a bit tougher than usual. Not wanting to risk their projectiles being destroyed by the liquid dragon again, the Icemon instead took deep breaths… but for what?
That was answered as each of them started to forcefully exhale small blizzards of breath at the group! The chilling breaths carried with them sharp ice needles for the express purpose of impaling any poor, fleshy bodies that happened to be caught in the path, and the spread of such was great enough that there was little way to simply duck out of the way. A disaster in the making, in short…
If Alicia was in any other form that is. Selflessly brave as she was, she wasted no time using her amorphous body to put up a quick wall to break the core of the blizzards and rebound the deadly needles. Mostly. Several of them still managed to pierce her, but at least they got caught in her body instead of flying through to hurt any of her friends behind her. It would be quite a worrying similarity to how she’d sheltered Maia and Kuu back when a bunch of Ninjamon assaulted them…
“Take ‘em out guys!” Alicia ordered in the heat of the moment. Given that she was still smirking despite taking the attacks, it was clear she was weathering this assault much better than the last one she’d taken. She wasn’t exactly able to strike back at the moment, but at the same time she wasn’t planning to, as it would ruin Patamon’s efforts by scaring the Icemon off again.
What was much more distressing though was the sudden echoing roar that tore through the caverns with enough force to shake the earth around them, the unstable stalactites cracking and crumbling dangerously. At least it was only the Icemon who were in danger still but… That roar sounded like it came from something very big, very angry, and most of all… very close… "I don't like the sound of that..." the Mercurialdramon muttered off hand.

"Names are the most important, Alicia!" Reppamon insisted, with a huff. How else was he supposed to keep track of which friend he was talking about? The fox monster had so many, after all! Like Mister Sockington, and Miss ButterSocks! They were some of his best friends. Oh, and Elliot, too. But he wasn't allowed to meet the Socks. It would make them feel like they lacked important aspects of life. Like limbs. It would just make the Socks feel self conscious!
Oh, wait, right. He was supposed to be focusing on things that didn't involve names. Oops.
The Digimon cringed back slightly, anticipating trying to shield his rookie partner from some serious damage. But, it never came. Because.. Oh! Alicia was blocking it! "You're awesome, Alicia!" Oh, Kuu. He thought everyone was awesome, didn't he?
Either way, the Digimon was more than willing to take the opportunity to complete their intended goal. "Patatata!" Kuu insisted, skirting around Alicia to avoid catching her in any of the attacks. "Team up for the boom thingy again?"
Not that Kuu was going to give Patamon much choice in the matter, aside from 'participate or don't.' That roar was kind of scary, and he didn't want to deal with a bunch of monsters at once! And, the Reppamon had a feeling that if the two teamed up again, they could really cause some damage! With a wiggle in the right direction, the Digimon began a countdown of, "three! Two! One! Go, Patata!" Oops, he forgot an extra 'ta' on the end of that name! Ah, whatever, he'd remember it one of these days!
With that, Kuu would wait until Patamon placed an attack before following up with another well-placed Vacuum Razor Wind, just to be sure that the Rookie's attack would have sufficient effect.

Patamon just rolled his eyes as Alicia scolded them about names. "Yeah yeah, maybe you should focus on the battle rather than scolding us!" Mitsuko literally face palmed at this. Her partner had to be the hypocrite. "Why me?" She muttered softly. As she lifted her head up, she watched the Icemon's next assault. A scream welled up in her throat, as she noted Patamon's widening eyes. He didn't have time to dodge, or counter attack. He had been too busy bantering with Alicia. Luckily, Alicia was quick. As she took form, blocking the damage!
"Okay. Point proven." Patamon admitted to the group, as he turned his attention back to the battle. When the roar filled the room, Mitsuko grabbed Maia's hand, half in shock, and half to pull her back into safety. Noting this, she blushed quickly, and released it again. Patamon, as usual had to be captain obvious "Uh oh... that doesn't sound good!" With Kuu's instruction, they began the assault together. "Boom Bubble!" Patamon called out, as he inflated once more, and sent an air-like bullet towards the damaged stalactites. Mitsuko was nervous, scared, yet couldn't look away. Her breath caught in her throat as her eyes kept following the combined attacks of Kuu and Patamon.

Fierce attacks flew from both the Patamon and the Reppamon in sync and due to the better timing the attacks seemed to feed each other more power with Patamon’s Boom Bubble adding more force and speed to Kuu’s Razor Wind. The combination easily sliced through the stalactites and sent them hurtling towards the unsuspecting Icemon below. It was only at the last second that they noticed the shadows over them growing bigger and by then it was far too late. Even as they leaped for safety, the stalactites crashed down into the crazed digimon and basically pinned them down.
If they’d been anything less then blatantly insane, the resulting sight would’ve probably been depressing, the poor creatures scrabbling to get out from under their ironically frosty prison. In fact for Alicia at least it was still a little depressing. They were just defending themselves and trying to end the fight as soon as possible, but things came out the way they did…
She didn’t have to harbor her guilt for very long, as the wall of the cave in front of them was suddenly smashed open by a great golden and steel claw. A mechanical saurian come through howling with flames puffing from his clenched jaws, light gleeming eerily off of the three horns adorning his head. The Mercurialdramon was taken a back, eyes wide at the sudden appearance. Then the new intruder loosed another howl, and with it came a declaration that told everyone this mon was far from mindless.
”ZEKE FLAME!” With the roar, the flames ignited brighter and the golden saurian unleashed his furious flames. Fortunately for the others, the Icemon and their prison became a distressingly good distraction as the beast that appeared focused on them first. Any chance of trying to let the Icemon go alive went up in smoke with their bodies as they were reduced to nothing in an instant, fire still smoldering on the burnt ground.
”Grrrr...” The saurian rumbled a deep growl as it turned his gaze upon the tamers and spirit user, the light of his flames and the pulsing energy through this section of the caves glinting off his metallic figure. Speaking of light, part of his chest stared to glow oddly, and his form flickered a bit between it’s current form and a less ornate, dark blue pure dinosaur-like digimon, as if there was something wrong with his digital make-up. For now, he seemed content to stare the group down. Though his gaze lingered on Alicia for a curious period of time. Whatever could the case be there?
((OOC: Pretty sure the attack name is enough to tell everyone who this big guy is.))

Amber eyes shifted to look at Mitsuko, hearing her mumbling. "If it makes you feel better, I ask that every day." Was that a joke? Or serious? Considering Maia's partner, it was really hard to tell! After all, how many other people could say that they had to help their partner remove themselves from not only a ceiling fan, but a toilet as well?
Feeling Mitsuko grab her hand pulled her from the idea of lightening the mood, however. It really didn't sound good, did it? "Everything's going to be alright," the blonde tried to assure. Was it really? Well, as long as Alicia was there, surely things would pan out just fine!
Kuu was too busy to care, feeling victorious about incapacitating the Icemon. "Team effort!" The fox cheered, bouncing. Oh, if only he had hands. He wanted to give high fives right now! Alas, it wasn't meant to be. Neither was a chance at relaxation, it seemed, as another Big-Bad appeared.
This one took "big" literal, too! Oh jeez! It was definitely bigger than Icemon were! Unless the Icemon all climbed on top of each other, and even then-- Wait, Kuu. Stop getting sidetracked. Nobody wants to be eaten because of a distracted Champion!
"Patatata! Meet Big-Angry-Lookin'-Guy! He's the final boss!" Hopefully. Definitely hopefully. But, despite what it had done to the Icemon, it hadn't attacked yet. How weird! Trying not to tense enough for his Rookie friend to notice, the masked monster glanced towards Alicia. "Do we beat him up, too?" After the last time they had gone on a hunt with Alicia, it seemed that Kuu was remembering that beating everything to a pulp wasn't actually the best option! But, that didn't mean he wasn't going to stay on-guard. After all, humans could be caught in the crossfire if he wasn't careful!

Mitsuko smiled at Maia, the blonde girl truly understood her dilemma. Granted Mitsuko was new at this whole Tamer business, she realized there would be more shenanigans coming their way. With adrenaline coursing through her veins, the musician nodded at Maia. It was going to be okay. It just had to be, right? The new tamer watched as the combined attacks easily caused the Icemon to become trapped. Yes, they were defending their territory, but they attacked without letting them explain their situation. Maybe they could free the Icemon on their way out.
"Go team PataKuu!" Patamon cheered as he landed on Kuu's head, with a cheesy grin. However the celebration was short lived, as the giant digimon came crashing in. "I knew that didn't sound good!" Patamon said as he launched himself off of Kuu's head, floating in the air.
Mitsuko's breath caught in her chest, as the giant digimon entered the makeshift arena. "NO!" Mitsuko screamed as the saurian digimon melted the Icemon. Tears streamed down her face, they were only defending their home! "We were going to set them free!" Mitsuko cried softly as she fell to her knees, gripping her D-3 close to her chest. Finally it hit close to home, this world was truly more dangerous than she previously thought. She was chosen, however, just like Maia, and Alicia! She had the tools to help make this world a better place. Her and Patamon. She looked up at her partner, bravely flying above Kuu ready for battle. No matter what the cost.
"You killed them... We will not let you get away with this." Mitsuko said as she stood up quickly drying her blue eyes. They seemed to be sparkling with her remaining tears, and a zealous fury. The silverette flipped a strand of hair over her left shoulder and never broke eye contact with the 'big-angry-looking-guy' as Kuu called him. Patamon however seemed to have changed, his body rigid and all joking aside. This mon meant business!
Perhaps it was Mitsuko's pure heart and sense of justice. Or Patamon's determination and desperation to protect the humans. Whatever the cause, Mitsuko's digivice reacted once again. "Please Mom, help us." Mitsuko whispered to her digivice as Patamon became enveloped in a golden white light, and began to digivolve once again.
"Patamon digivolve to... Angemon!"
A small chorus of bells chimed around them, as did a small shower of digital feathers. Mitsuko caught one of the feathers, but it de-digitized upon contact. The musician couldn't take her eyes off of her partner. Six pure white wings, a mane of thick, golden, hair streamed down his back. He clutched a staff, and his gaze never wavered from the enemy. He was beautiful, yet fierce. He inspired hope within Mitsuko, they could do this. Together. Mitsuko closed her eyes, tears streamed down her face once more. "Thanks Mom." The girl added softly as she turned her face back to the battle getting ready to begin.

Alicia looked over her shoulder to her friends, before gazing back at the newcomer. There weren’t words for the situation right now, with Kuu being his usual self and Mitsuko being understandably horrified at what had just happened. She decided it was best to not mention she had no intention of letting the Icemon go after seeing those hollow, dead eyes. However, while she had no words, it seems the newcomer did have something to say.
The golden cyborg dinosaur stiffed visibly, inclining his head down words as he closed his eyes. For the time being the mask on his face had only black voids looking out. As he slowly tilted his head towards Mitsuko, the massive digimon began to speak again. ”’Set them free’? ‘You won’t let me get away with it’…?” It was amazing how one being could fit so much caustic venom into two simple sentences. It seemed Mitsuko had unintentionally hit a sore nerve on the big guy
”What!?” he suddenly barked, eyes snapping open again and filled with rage. ”You idealistic idiot! Are you thinking such stupid things like ‘They were protecting their home’!? That they had an idea what they were actually doing!? You can’t even stop to think that mercy may in fact be the cruelest thing you can do in some situations!?” At that point he clench his clawed hand into a tight fist, which was beginning to quake with his barely held fury. ”Che! Why should I be surprised. You’ve never heard those blood-chilling screams. The screams begging for someone, anyone, to KILL them and end their suffering! All I did was grant them their last sane wish!
Huffing, the ZekeGreymon snarled more, regarding the angel digimon that Patamon had turned into in response to Mitsuko’s emotions. ”Angemon… why respond to this ignorant girl’s rage? As a Digimon, you yourself should know the slain members of our kind merely return to Primary Village, revived and restored. And most importantly for this scenario, they come back sane again… You’d do well to help your partner better understand how this bloody death world works. Perhaps in another life you’ll be more keen to bring whoever that’ll be up to speed.”
“I thought so… You have the Spirit Totem I’m looking for, don’t you?” Alicia suddenly asked. The ZekeGreymon refocused on the Mercurialdramon and huffed.
”At least you’re sharp. A pity that I have to turn my flames on those who still cling to their minds, but I have no intention of turning into one of those things if I can stave it off. Why don’t you send your little friends out while you still can? Those Champion level digimon won’t last long if one of my attacks hits them. The humans will die even faster then that.”
Alicia had to smirk at that, chuckling. “Heh, no can do, big guy. We’re a team right now and friends beyond that. Friends don’t abandon each other. And if that’s the case I’ll just have to make sure you don’t get past me.” Now the liquid dragon tensed up as ZekeGreymon hunkered down. It seemed this fight was ready to begin in earnest now.
”Have it your way then, just don’t blame me if something unfortunate happens.” the golden dinosaur uttered one last line, before the two lunged at each other and clash with an echoing boom through the cave, matching strength against strength as they locked into a fierce grapple. Alicia prioritized controlling the greater Digimon’s arm cannon, making sure it was pointed down and away while holding those golden claws back from coming down and slicing her apart. The golden digimon snarled in turned and leaned into the grapple more, massive fangs trying to snap at Alicia, but the Mercurialdramon responded by ducking down and shoving hard against her foe’s waist.
That sudden shift was enough for her to push her body to the limit and with a bestial roar the Steel Spirit Wielder hoisted the cyborg dinosaur overhead, much to ZekeGreymon’s visible surprise. And, with a twist of her body, she brought him crashing back down on his head, cracking the ground and sending a minor quake through the cave system.
The great dinosaur wasn’t about to let a blow like that stun him for long though. Rolling away, tearing chunks of frozen earth lodged to his horns as he did, ZekeGreymon pivoted into a twist with arm and tail cannon humming with power. ”Destroy Smasher!” he howled as he began to fire wildly in his spin, bringing devastation to anything in the area that didn’t have the speed of thought to take cover behind convenient stalagmites.
Unfortunately, Alicia wasn’t quite fast enough to do that, and caught a railgun shot to the chest for her trouble. The Mercurialdramon shrieked as she went tumbling from the blast and, distressingly, a good chunk of her body was sent splattering over the ground and walls nearby, leaving a gaping hole that showed where she’d be struck. That… had to hurt...

The tamer found herself watching in silence as the Icemon had been melted, and as Mitsuko began talking. They just melted. Just like that? That didn't really seem fair. But, at the same time, it was a good reminder of what would happen if everyone played by the non-existent rules. So, rather than watching Patamon become Angemon, the teen found herself pulling a deck of cards out of her pocket, and shuffling through them rapidly. Would anything be useful?
Meanwhile, Kuu kept his eyes on ZekeGreymon, only listening to the evolution of his partner. "Yay, Patatata! Again!" He cheered, seemingly unbothered by the distress of others. Even if the fox was capable of being worried, it wasn't like he'd show it! Kuu would be happy as much as physically (mentally?) possible! Plus, Digimon always came back! Unless they were eaten like that orange-guy, that one time. Oh, poor angry, bomby, orange man. Wait, wait. Focus! Stop thinking about other things!
The masked monster lifted his head, hearing how ZekeGreymon spoke to Angemon. "You make it sound like we're gonna die," the Champion huffed. Oh, he had full faith that Mitsuko and Maia wouldn't allow for that! Tamers were there for a reason, after all! And, with Alicia there, getting impaled, they were all going to be just fi--
Rewind! Alicia was impaled! Oh no!
Maia was already pulling on Mitsuko, to try to hide behind a, luckily, very close stalagmite that seemed fully capable of covering the two. How convenient, for plot, to not be murdered right now! "We need to move," she mumbled rapidly, trying to explain why she was trying to drag the poor silverette around. "If we get in the way, it's game over for our partners." Once behind the shield, however, the blonde tried to ignore the idea that Alicia, or their Digimon, may have gotten hurt, considering she hadn't really had time to see what was happening. But, the sound that Alicia had made was probably going to haunt her, all the same, until it was safer to find out the full damage.
"Not good, not good!" Kuu shrieked, bolting around, to avoid serious damage, rather than hiding. "Alicia! Are you down?" Good thing the Champion was always dramatic! Otherwise, that question would be really alarming! "Are you alive? Updates! We need them! Stat!" Stop! Saying things like that will seriously scare your tamer, Kuu!
Speaking of, one card twirled between the girl's fingers, pulling it away from the deck. Was it going to be useful? Heck, probably not. But, they needed something to hopefully keep the enemy from just destroying everyone and everything within the cave! "Digi-Modify: Dokugamon's Toxic Web. Activate," the teen hissed, hearing the card crackle a little as it slid through the D-Arc.
Modification being instant, Kuu lifted his head, opening his mouth to fire off a spider-like web at Mr. Final-Boss. Okay, maybe asking permission to beat him up earlier was a bad idea. Next time, maybe the Digimon needed to ask while attacking!
Card Name: Dokugumon Duration: 1 Post(s) Effect: Toxic Web: The digimon shoots a sticky acidic web, burning the foe on contact

Mitsuko's rage didn't subside. Not when Zeke was mocking her, or calling her an idiot. Her blue eyes sparkled, never breaking contact. "Oh, I'm an idealistic idiot?" Mitsuko spat back, it surprised her how much anger she could put into words "I'd rather be that than a hypocrite. You say that sometimes mercy is the cruelest thing in some situations. Yet you yourself admitted that they begged for someone to kill them, and you granted their last wish. So, therefor, you yourself gave into mercy." Mitsuko's logic was sound.
Angemon changed posture as well, he moved the staff in front of his body, in a defensive stance. "Yes, I do remember how our kind is reborn." Angemon stated "However, this girl, my tamer, is new to this world. Not everything can be learned in a day. You have shown mercy, in your own way. Yet you failed to think of other ways that could have been used that didn't waste life."
Alicia seemed to have realized that this monstrosity was her spirit totem. Mitsuko hoped that the spirit wasn't as cruel as this current possessor. Angemon opened his wings broadly, trying to block Mitsuko from ZekeGreymon's path at his threat. Mitsuko and Angemon watched the battle. Mitsuko, because she was partially frozen in fear, and Angemon because he was looking for a good time to attack. Then that scream, a scream that tore Mitsuko and Angemon to the core. Before she knew what was happening, Maia was at her side trying to pull her behind a stalagmite. Mitsuko could hear what Maia was saying, but it seemed to not register, it just bounced around in her head. All she could hear was Alicia's shriek. It seemed like Maia was still able to help, by Digimodifying her partner. Wait, that's a new one! She would have to remember to ask about that later. "Please, Angemon, do something." Mitsuko prayed.
"Kuu, calm down." Angemon called back "I'm trying to check on her. Keep ZekeGreymon away from me. Please. I can help her." Angemon used his small, lithe form to dodge around, and hide between the stalactites until he reached where Alicia was at. He landed beside Alicia's body, and opened his wings. They seemed to glow a bright goldish color, and a deep warmth emitted from them, that spread onto Alicia's body. "Healing Wind!"
Angemon's ability couldn't have come at a better time. "I know you're still in pain, and that may have taken a lot out of you, but hopefully this helps." Angemon prayed as his healing spell finally ended.
