Well now, this was somewhat of a better scene for Owen. The Mainframe Hills were a wonderful setting - fresh air blowing throughout the surroundings, lovely scenery. A little more home to the Gaomon than Terminus City and the surrounding plains.
Why he was here? Well, Owen had heard from other independent digimon that there may be a wayward young human and an in-training partner somewhere around these parts. As safe a setting the mainframe hills were, still, it would be terrible if a young human and a baby digimon got into trouble. So therefore, Owen the adventurer would endeavor to do what he could to help out these newcomers and help them adjust to life in this world.
"After all, what kind of good digimon would I be if I didn't?!" he asked, suddenly as a rhetorical question.
"...didn't what?" a random passerby Koromon asked. Owen looked down, blinking.
"N-nothing!" he said, before rushing off as fast as he could. Well, that was embarrassing... Well, then, time to begin his search. Dressed in his red bandana and boxing gloves, the blue and white dog digimon looked around the hills for those who might be a little lost.

Another day, another adventure!
...If only it were that glamorous. Ever since he made the journey from that beach he had been left on, it honestly had been more of the same for Oboro. Bukamon was good company, at least. The two of them had made their way to the east, where they found some lovely, rolling hills.
"Bukamon," Oboro whined, "I'm bored."
Bukamon just sighed. "Well, we could always just take a break and enjoy the scenery!" He was starting to get exhausted. It was hard for him to keep up with the endless energy that his little Tamer seemed to posess.

Owen's ears perked up as he heard them. He sniffed the air. Was that... a human? And an in-training level? At last! Success!
The Gaomon ran on all fours toward them, hoping he was in in time. And... yes, there they were! On the slope of the hill below. Deciding he should make somewhat of a grand entrance, Owen bounded dramatically into the air.
"Ahoooyyy!!!" he called down to them, aiming to land smartly on the slope of the hill in front of them. Most unfortunately, he landed on a small rock on the edge of the hill and slipped off it, making him fall down and roll downward.
"Oof! Agh! Ouch! Ow! Ach! Aie!" he uttered as he rolled past them. Undoubtedly he would be an embarrassing sight as he came to a rest about fifty feet down. Thankfully no bones broke though, all due to the wonderful nutritious diet that his little sister-friend Cion had given him as they were growing up.
Owen trudged back up the hill as though nothing had happened and assumed the dramatic pose that he meant to hold first time.
"Hello there!" he said, his fur covered with grass seeds. "I've heard tell from some friends that you two may be new around here. May I offer you some assistance in adjusting to life in this dangerous world?" he asked, eagerly.

All at once, Oboro and Bukamon were set upon by a strange, dog-like creature. Of course, the poor guy didn't stick the landing and tumbled down the hill. After a few seconds, without as much as a reaction from neither Tamer nor Digimon, the little blue dog scrambled back up and asked if they needed any help.
"From the looks of things, we need to be helping you!" Bukamon giggled.
"Who...are you?" Oboro asked.

"Oho, why of course, I'm perfectly fine" Owen said brightly, scratching grass seeds off his butt. "Just... a minor slip that's all, that never killed anyone..." he paused. "Well, okay, it may have killed quite a lot of people but it certainly didn't kill a hardy young adventurer like myself!"
He looked at the human. He was the smallest one Owen had seen so far, with red hair and small clothes. The poor guy, he must be so lost. And he had a Bukamon partner? Well he might grow to be a fine aquatic digimon.
"My name is Owen, mister, I'm a Gaomon" Owen said, pleasantly. "I'm a digimon without a partner, as you've probably noticed, but I hope that in my meeting you, I might show you that us "independent" digimon can be friendly toward humans".
With his intentions stated, Owen walked up to Oboro. Owen had to look up a little to speak to him, it seemed that although they were almost the same height, Oboro was slightly taller.
"Now then, is there anything you would like help with in learning how to get by in the digital world?" he asked, earnestly.

"Owen, huh?" Oboro repeated. The little guy was kinda cute! But, was he really that capable? Oboro was taller than him! "Well, we've just been wandering around, and I still have no idea what I'm doing!" He grinned sheepishly. While Oboro was fairly skilled in survival from his time in the Real World, things seemed to operate differently around here.
"We'd be willing to hear you out, at least," Bukamon added. He was slightly interested in the independent Digimon. Other Digimon seemed to be able to function just fine without the help of a Tamer. Why couldn't he? Maybe he had been in a past life? Who the hell knew?

Owen blinked a little as Oboro said he had no idea what he was meant to be doing. "Really?" he asked, not really sure what else to say. "W-well, lucky I encountered you then, huh?" he grinned, putting his paws on his hips. "Do you know how to gather food at least?". He hoped that maybe starting off with that might be a good place to start. "And perhaps find shelter too?" the Gaomon added, knowing that those two things were his main challenges since leaving Primary Village and entering the world.
"Well, here's a tip to start you off" he said, enjoying the role of a teacher to listening pupils. "Whenever you can, practice your attacks! They're your main method of defending yourself and those you care about so be sure to brush up on your skills whenever you can" Owen said, and assumed a boxing stance, turning to face empty air. "I did this every day since I evolved to Gaomon, and if anyone hurts my friends I give 'em a bit of this!" he started to punch the thin air, hoping he came across as impressive. "Yeah that'll show 'em!" he grinned, stopping and turning back to them. He awaited an answer to his first question.

Oboro looked a little confused. Of course he knew how to find shelter! He was Oboro Maeda, damn it! "Shelter is easy!" he boasted. "It's food that seems a little...hard to come by." As if on cue, both his and Bukamon's stomachs began to growl.
"Fooooood~" Bukamon was nearly drooling just by the two of them mentioning the word!
Oboro continued to listen to Owen's explanation on practicing attacks and watched him as he began to box the air. "Wow!" His eyes lit up with amazement at the Gaomon's abilities. "You're so...cool!" He seemed to forget so quickly that this same Gaomon had just fallen flat on his face and rolled down a hill just moments before.
"Can I box too, Oboro?" Bukamon asked.
"You don't have hands, Bukamon," Oboro reminded him. "You have tiny little fins."

So, Oboro and Bukamon were hungry? Well, since they thought he was so cool, he'd best show them how to get food, free of charge.
"Aha, well then, lucky I found you in time!" Owen said brightly. "Come on, follow me" he beckoned them down the hill toward a machine sticking up out of the ground. To his delight, it was a food machine. Well then, time to get to business.
"You never know, Bukamon, you might evolve into something with fists like mine?" Owen said, hoping he was being encouraging. They arrived at the machine and Owen continued his lesson.
"All around the digital world are these vending machines" he said. "I've got no idea how they work, but the main thing is that when you're on the road, they're your easiest way to get fed. They're plentiful, reliable, but the food can be a bit bland sometimes"
He faced the machine. "To operate them, you have to take careful aim" he drew his fist back. "Then punch with all your might!" he gave a great big punch to the machine. This proved to be a mistake. "GAH!" he cried, shaking his fist. Even under the boxing glove his paw was hurting. He calmed down as fast as he could though.
"Hmm, I see that vending machines seem to have armor plating now" he said. "Well then... to operate them, eh, best just pay some money". He reached into his bag, took out some bits and put them into the machine. Some snack bars came tumbling out of it. Owen then shared it with Oboro and Bukamon.
"I think your digivice stores the bits you have? I'm not entirely sure how that works" Owen said. But humans seemed to have no trouble with their supply of bits.

Oboro and Bukamon watched as Owen punched the vending machine. It seemed to hurt him! That didn't seem very effective. Then he ended up just paying some money for snacks for the three of them. Oboro and Bukamon happily accepted the snack bars and downed them nearly instantaneously. While Owen was explaining bits to them, Oboro took out his Digivice and stared at it. "So, this thing has bits on it," he noted. Bukamon was suddenly full of energy from that snack bar and was staring at Oboro's Digivice intently. Without warning, the D-3 and the Digimon both started glowing. "Bukamon Digivolve to...Gomamon!""Gomamon!" Oboro shouted. "You're back to normal!" It seemed that after their sudden lapse in time, Gomamon had reverted back to his In-Training stage and was unable to Digivolve. Apparently all it took was a little food for the little guy to be back up to 100%! "No boxing for me, though," the Aquatic Digimon sighed, looking down at his fins.

Owen put his gloved paw to his mouth as he considered Oboro's question. "Yeah, I gather that's how they work?" he said, unsurely. "I mean I don't know the exact workings of digivices, but they seem to be the, uh..." he paused for a moment, pacing on the spot as he tried to think of the word. Then he realized it in a rush. "Conduit! Yeah, it acts like a conduit between you humans and digital stuff in the digital world" he finished, proud of having thought of that word.
Then all of a sudden, as Bukamon finished eating, Oboro's digivice began to glow. Owen stared and saw him suddenly evolve. It seemed Bukamon was now a Gomamon.
"Huh... nifty" he remarked. Did digivices make digimon evolve faster? Well, that he didn't know. "Heh, looking good, Gomamon" he said, giving a thumbs up at his evolution, knowing that this was a terrific moment in this digimon's life.
The Gaomon laughed as Gomamon remarked that there would be no boxing for him. "Heh, well, I'm sure there's lots of other nifty attacks you can learn" he said. "Hey, here's a thought, how 'bout we find a spot where we can learn your techniques?" he suggested. "I was taught that the moment you evolve, a whole bunch of new lessons have to start" he grinned. "Wouldn't want you having to make it for yourself in the world if you didn't know how to defend yourself. So how 'bout it?"

Gomamon's eyes lit up at that prospect. "I'd love to!" he said happily.
Oboro was equally happy to see Gomamon in a battle. In their adventure, they had come across many Digimon in combat. Luckily, they hadn't been forced into anything yet, but Oboro quickly realized that he would have an issue defending himself against Digimon if Gomamon wasn't there for him. "Let's do it!" Oboro shouted, jumping around like a fool. The little guy had too much energy for his own good, to be honest.

"Okay, great!" Owen said, beaming. "Now then... you're a Gomamon so you'd probably fight best when you're near water..." Owen surveyed the surroundings. At the bottom of the hill, he saw a gully of long grass. And in that grass appeared to be a small body of water. "Aha! There's a stream down here!" he said. "Come on, let's go near" he said, running down the hill to approach. The Gaomon wasn't really sure how exactly it would help, but it wouldn't hurt to try, he supposed.
"Okay, Gomamon" he said. "Now... how about you try and aim an attack at... that dead tree there?" he asked, pointing toward a dried, withered stump that would present an excellent target for a rookie level attack.
Owen was curious to see what would happen, if Gomamon was a melee fighter or if he could use more distance based attacks. Hopefully he knew how to do something. Rookie level digimon should at least have the instinct to know how to attack after all.

Oboro tensed at the sight of the river. When the two Digimon approached, he hung back a bit. "You guys...have fun!" Oboro laughed nervously. "I'll just stay over here."
Gomamon thought about what he could do. So many possibilities! Finally, something came to mind. "Marching Fishes!" he called out. Suddenly, tons of colorful fish jumped out of the river and toward the tree. Unfortunately, it didn't seem to do much to the stump. Gomamon sighed, but didn't give up! As the fishes slowly flopped back into the water, the little Rookie readied himself for another attack. With a fire in his eyes, Gomamon jumped at the tree and brought his claw back. "Claw Slash!"

Owen noticed that Oboro seemed to look a bit uncomfortable at the notion of approaching water. He wondered why in the world that was. The stream didn't look that deep, plus it was relatively calm. Although... bad water digimon could live underwater. Perhaps Oboro had had a bad experience with one?
Nonetheless, once they arrived by the stream, Owen watched patiently as Gomamon tried to remember his instincts. Pretty much all digimon he knew had remembered their rookie level attacks instantly after attaining their forms. Hopefully Gomamon would be the same.
And of course, he did. His Marching Fishes attack was... well... interesting. Although causing fish to fly out of the river could have utility elsewhere? "Awesome work!" Owen cheered. "Now you'd surely have a melee attack, right?"
And it turned out, he did! Those big claws on Gomamon's flippers weren't for nothing. Owen watched as he slashed at the tree stump, easily ripping out a nice big chunk of wood. "Alright, well done!" Owen said, grinning.
But Owen thought there might be more. He didn't really want to attack Gomamon to test his defensive abilities though. And he didn't even know if he had any, so he didn't bring up that part of the lesson.
"Okay, we've got something" he said, brightly. "Now then, hopefully you can practice those two attacks and before long, you'll be digivolving again in no time" he said, enjoying the temporary role of a teacher. "Now... I'm interested in your fish summoning ability... how exactly do you do that?" he asked, interested, crouching down so that he was closer to Gomamon's eye level. "Can you make the fish do something other than attack?".
