"Oh god, she's actually coming."
When Isaac had sent that message suggesting they have a little Christmas party for two, he didn't expect Maia to actually be up for it! Sure, his mom and her friend were going to be out at some sort of office Christmas party instead of being home, making it the best possible time for a visit. And sure, Isaac had loaded up on plenty of presents to spoil Maia rotten with. But he didn't expect she'd actually give him a "sure" when he joked about the possibility! Now he had to make sure their humble abode would look like a winter wonderland in time for her arrival.
He watched as Elliot bounded through the house as Strikedramon, using his powerful legs and massive height to hang up wreaths, line the door frames with garlands, and top the Christmas tree with a star. "Is being Strikedramon for this really necessary? We have chairs," Isaac pointed out, the muscular dragon turning and putting his hands on his hips in irritation at the response.
"Was your idea really any better?" Briefly Isaac remembered Devidramon careening through the house, nearly knocking everything over as he snaked through entire rooms at a time. "Besides, I'm starting to think using the chair might be kinda dangerous. You know. Bad leg and all that." The Strikedramon returned to his wreath hanging, smirking a little as he slipped a mistletoe underneath one. It was right under the most frequently used doorframe in the house, too. Elliot, you schemer!
Not that Isaac noticed. He was too busy listening for the beep. The oven would go off any second, after all, and in this case any second included right now! "The cake!" he shouted, quickly running over to get it out of the oven. Elliot had whipped up a beautiful chocolate cake, and even bought plenty of festive red and green icings for Isaac to slather over it. Combined with a bag of fondant to make into snowflakes, and Isaac had the plan for a pretty great looking cake going. "I'll get the hot chocolate started and get this cake looking beautiful, okay? Keep decorating and watch the door for me. She could be here any second now.
Not as Strikedramon, though. We don't need the neighbors getting the wrong idea."
Elliot nodded, getting presents out from the closet and stacking them under the tree. He marveled briefly at the great job Isaac did with them, when in the past he could barely handle scissors without nicking himself. Seemed like Maia had been a seriously positive influence in his life. No wonder Isaac was trying so hard to give her a great Christmas!

"Going to Elliot's house! Going to Elliot's house!"
"Do you have to skip? It's- It's kind of unsettling."
Letting out a gasp, the holo-suited boy spun around, grasping his tamer by her shoulders, with wide eyes. "I have to, Maia! It's not every day that I have legs!"
"Or hands. Can you stop touching me? It's really weird when you're, uh." Maia paused, squinting at the blonde boy in front of her, "not a cute animal?" Surely, some people would argue that Kudamon wasn't all that cute, but Maia thought he was. Why did he have to get a holosuit? It just made for conflicting feelings about if he could really be someone's pet. After all, you don't make humans into pets.
Now the stupid fox wanted to touch everything with 'real people' hands. It was so weird! How did holo-suits even work? Either way, the teen strongly regretted letting Kuu actually get one. Even her mom acted weird about having a 'new child' in the house.
But, Kuu was loving every second of not being stuck in hiding during transit periods! And, now that they could see the Sunderland household's door, the Digimon hurried ahead of his tamer, scrambling to knock at the door. And, per Kuu mannerisms, it was rapid, loud, and probably to some sort of random tune in his head. After a couple of seconds, he'd drop his hand, and look around at the door frame. Huh. Everything looked a little different when he was taller.
Not wanting to leave her partner alone for too long, Maia picked up her pace, to catch up with him. He had already finished his knocking by the time that she had, of course, leaving her to stand behind him, with arms crossed in front of her, holding a bag.

Kuu had picked the perfect time to knock. Elliot had just put two and two together, and realized that by standing on the chair as Strikedramon he could be doubly tall. Sticking out his tail for balance, Elliot had just started hanging a gaudy chandelier made of plastic crystals up. That was when the loud and rapid knocked echoed through the house like gunfire, and in his haste to get off of the chair Elliot toppled it and fell flat on his back. Ow, that hurt like heck!
Oh, right. Spirit user. One degeneration later, Elliot's back pain became more of a gentle numbness. He pushed himself back to his feet and hobbled over to the door, calling "Just a second!" as he did so. One hand gently pressed against his back to ease the ache, he fumbled for the handle and opened the door. Naturally, Isaac was hot on his heels, almost flying across the room to make sure he'd be there to greet Maia at the door. He actually made it, too, arriving just in time for the door to start creaking open.
Maia was certainly there, Isaac smiling almost involuntarily as he saw her. "Hey there, Mai! You look really cute today," he said, feeling in an especially festive mood for quite obvious reasons. However, he did a slight double take as he noticed who was with her. Wait, what?
Elliot seemed much quicker at putting two and two together. "Hi guys!" he chirped. "Is that a new holosuit, Kuu? You look adorable!"
That explained it. Although Isaac found Kuu's choice of attire . . . distressingly familiar. He blinked, trying to figure out how he felt about Kuu picking something so close to him in appearance. Nevertheless, he stepped aside to let the two in. "Come on in and make yourselves at home. I know its a bit cramped compared to your place, but its nice and toasty for the holidays."
He sat down on the couch, letting out a small sigh from all the exertion he had been expending. "So! How's your holiday been so far, guys?" he asked, giving himself a bit of needed rest and relaxation before he would start messing with the cake and hot chocolate.

"Someone dropped something!" Kuu chirped to his tamer, hearing a thud within the house at his knocking. Yes. Something. It totally wasn't the sound of someone falling off of a chair! That couldn't be!
Of course, Isaac greeted Maia with a compliment, causing the blonde to blush slightly and smile. "Hi," she murmured, untangling one of her hands from her bag to wave. She had to actually wait for Kuu to stop blocking the doorway, to get to her boyfriend, however.
With a small bounce, the boy grinned at his own compliment. Oh, he knew he liked Elliot for a reason! "Maia doesn't like it as much! But! I think she's lying!" At least someone appreciated his choice in 'clothes'!
And, given the okay to enter, the Digimon whirled into the room, only to place an arm around Isaac's shoulders, sticking his tongue out at his tamer. It gave a few seconds of comparison, which Maia really wasn't appreciating. "I still smell better, though," the fox was quick to point out, before scooting away from Isaac, planning to spend more time with Elliot than anyone else. "Do you know how cool thumbs are? They do things!" This was emphasized by wiggling his thumbs up and down, almost like pressing buttons on a controller. "I can even make my own toast!" Not much else, though. Maia was already wary enough letting her partner near the toaster.
Slipping in, the girl fussed with her bag a little, before pulling out a container. Full of cookies, just like she had made when they met, of course! "I brought these, I hope it's alright." Was it weird to bring food to other people's houses? It was too late to really ponder that. Plus! It was a holiday! That should make it automatically acceptable!
"Your home is fine," she added, to reassure. It wasn't like they needed a lot of space, anyway! It wasn't some huge party! After finding a place to set everything, the tamer slid over to sit on the couch as well, while Kuu was busy staring at all the decorations. With any luck, she wouldn't need to remind him that they were not edible. "It's been good. Mostly spent it trying to keep Kuu out of all of the things he can reach now." Oh, it was such a hassle keeping someone, that couldn't fit in a box, out of everything they weren't supposed to touch. The top shelves were now easier access! Not easy, but he didn't have to lunge at everything to have any chance at success! "How about yours?"

Maia and Isaac may not have been too fond of the comparison, but Elliot was giggling away at how the two were "posing" "together." "You two are like twins, almost," he pointed out, something that surely wouldn't help the embarrassed couple feel any better about Kuu's holosuit. Thankfully, though, Elliot seemed more than happy to ignore the two and spend some time with his friend. He nodded in interest as Kuu talked about thumbs. "They're very great! I couldn't play video games without them," Elliot pointed out, glad to see that Kuu was being a bit more independent. Hopefully, this independence wouldn't lead to him burning the house down! "You've been keeping safe with those thumbs of yours, though. Right?"
Isaac looked hungrily on the cookies, giving Maia a kiss on the cheek in return. "They look delicious. Thank you!" he said, making sure to clear a brief spot on the table so they would have a nice home. "I've got some hot chocolate on the oven, too. Should be a nice little meal," he added. The cake? Nah, he'd let that be a little surprise once Maia got a bit more settled in.
He couldn't help but laugh a little as Maia recounted Kuu's mishaps. "That much chaos already, huh? Then again, we're talking about Kuu here, so I wouldn't expect anything less," Isaac remarked. "I bet you made his day with that gift, though. I mean, heck, I've never seen him look happier before. And this is Kuu we're talking about, so that's huge." When was the pipe fox ever not happy? It was almost disconcerting!
"My holiday's been okay. Mostly kinda busy, really," Isaac admitted. He'd spring the job reveal later, once it was time to open presents. "Elliot's been running me ragged trying to help him with gift ideas, and that's not even getting into all the Digital World stuff. But that's not really any different from the rest of this trip to Japan, huh?" It still felt weird realizing that this whole adventure started as just a little vacation.
"Any plans coming up?" Surely someone with a family as tight-knit and quasi-religious as Maia's would have something in store for Christmas!

"Yay!" Kuu cheered, feeling successful in his choice of attire. At least Elliot liked it! Maia was just getting more uncomfortable now that she could fully see the similarities. Still wiggling his thumbs, the rookie looked at his hands at the next question. "You have to be safe with them?" How did he do that? Did he have to cover them in tape, just in case they tried to fall off? Oh no. Kuu couldn't be held responsible for potentially-escaping appendages! And, maybe, that distress was growing visible on the holosuit's face. Okay, not even maybe. Yeah, Kuu was in crisis.
Of course, not for long, because he was still busy looking at decorations. Like, oh, what was that...? Elliot may want to keep an eye on the fox before he made a mess of any of the decorations! Including that mistletoe that he had managed to spot! Of course, not that he had touched it, or stepped underneath it. But, the boy found himself glancing at it every so often, debating it's edibility.
Maia was too distracted to notice what her pet was doing, though, more focused on her boyfriend. The teen smiled at the kiss, while placing the cookies on the cleared space. "Hot chocolate, huh? You're really going all out," she commented, playfully. Was Isaac feeling festive, or what?
"At least when he's little, he's," Maia paused, trying to think of a response that wasn't 'well, little.' But, she wasn't really succeeding here. "A lot easier to contain." Such as in a stocking! Which, had worked great at first, considering they're practically giant socks, but it didn't seem to distract the fox as much as she had hoped. "He does seem to like it, though. My mom even offered him the spare room as a bedroom, since he looks like a person." Man, Maia's mother was weird.
It was no surprise that Isaac was busy. It seemed like he'd been off doing something quite a bit lately. But, it sort of made sense that Elliot could have been behind it. The younger brother probably wanted to buy everyone he even kind of knew a present. "Just don't wear yourself out," she reminded, gently. Typical Maia, always worrying about someone or something.
But, apparently not about important events.
Right, she had something she had to do for the holidays, right? "I promised a couple of friends that I'd check out the Christmas event in an MMO, before it ends?" But, no, that really wasn't what she was supposed to be remembering. It was great to notice priorities, though! Internet friends were way more important than real life events! Unless, of course, they involved making Kuu stop trying to eat her computer mouse. "My aunt is having a New Years Eve party, I think." And, of little surprise, Maia was probably going to be trying to keep drunk people from falling on expensive items in the house during the majority of the night. Or just hiding off in a corner someplace. Why did Maia get invited to these kind of things? There was a low likeliness that anyone invited would be even somewhat in her age range! "Sounds like it will be crowded."
Thinking about that, should she invite Kuu to that party? Or trust that he could handle himself at home, without removing all the lightbulbs in the house? "I don't think there are any plans for a Christmas party, too, though." At least, the teen really hoped not! "How about for you?" Who knew what kinds of things the brothers would be busy with over the holidays?

Seeing Kuu's obvious distress, Elliot's eyes widened nervously. "Oh! No, no, that's not what I mean," he said, immediately worried that the pipe fox would take his explanation the wrong way. "I mean, like, don't bend them in ways they don't want to bend. Or put them inside of a fire or anything like that. If you just use 'em normally, you'll be perfectly fine." To demonstrate Elliot wiggled his own thumbs, smiling softly. "See? I've had mine for 13 years, and I'm fine. You'll do great with yours."
Not that Kuu was still focusing on thumbs. The mistletoe seemed to take Kuu's attention, and Elliot smiled a little as he glanced at it. "That's mistletoe," Elliot explained. "Its not for eating. Actually, I'm pretty sure its poisonous. But when two people stand under it . . ." Oh, how did he even explain this human tradition to Kuu? Did Kuu even know what kissing was? Or that Elliot totally planned for luring Maia and Isaac under the thing for a perfectly photogenic Christmas card moment? "Well, something funny happens.
Do you like the decorations? I worked my butt off setting them up."
Speaking of butts being worked off, Isaac had been keeping himself busy today too. The hot chocolate Maia was talking about was just one of many ways he did so. "How could I not? Christmas only comes once a year," he said, blushing a tiny bit. "And I wanted to make sure my first one with you would be something really special." That probably explained the chocolaty smell wafting from the kitchen that wasn't quite hot chocolate. And the little stack of presents under the tree.
With what Isaac knew about Maia's mom, however, Kuu getting his own room was a shocker. "Wait, really? No, 'the demon wears human flesh!' or anything like that?" he asked, somewhat confused. However, it clearly wasn't a topic he was in the mood to dwell on. "Well, I'm glad she's treating him better, at least. Hopefully that's another thing you don't have to worry about for a good while, eh?" It couldn't have been a more perfectly timed tease, especially with Maia reminding him not to wear himself out mere seconds later. He smiled at the reminder, giving Maia's hand a soft, reassuring squeeze. "Don't worry. This winter break's gonna be full rest and relaxation mode for me, at least."
At mention of the MMO Maia was always playing, a small, thoughtful smile spread over Isaac's face. "Y'know, I've been meaning to try that sometime," he commented. Considering Isaac wasn't much of a gamer, that might've come as a surprise! "Maybe I'll try it out before the new year. If I could get a hand at figuring it out, of course."
Much less entertaining was the idea of an aunt party. Isaac's nose seemed to wrinkle at the mere mention of the idea. Nobody ever said their aunt was hosting a party when there would actually be people their age at the party! Then they said it would be a party with their cousins. It'd probably be a bunch of drunk relatives sharing embarrassing stories, and considering the kinds of embarrassing stories Maia's dad could cook up when sober that idea terrified Isaac. At least Maia's mom would probably be hilarious on New Years. "Is your aunt up here too? Or are you flying back to the States for that?" Isaac asked, wondering how the logistics of such a trip would work.
"My family doesn't really do much for the holidays, these days," Isaac explained. "Maybe something quiet here for New Years, but as far as I know this is really all we've got planned." The boy seemed a little down about this fact, but the move to Japan still had so many logistical concerns to clear up. They really didn't have much time for big holiday celebrations. It certainly didn't help that the only people up here were Isaac, Elliot, and their mother. Then again, divorce certainly didn't help either.
Seemed like today would be Isaac's main source of Christmas cheer.
The sound of the hot chocolate being ready snapped Isaac out of his thoughts, though. "Oh! Just a second," he said, excusing himself briefly to go fetch the food. Soon he had returned with two trays balanced on his hand. With one he had a handsome looking chocolate cake, coated in red icing with a festive green border. In the center of the cake was a large fondant snowflake, with smaller fondant snowflakes dotting the sides. He set that down before Maia, letting the surprise speak for itself. Next to the cake he put the tray of hot chocolates, one for each member of the group with opposable thumbs. Unfortunately that meant three, because how the heck was Isaac supposed to know Kuu had a new holosuit? Thankfully, Isaac thoughtfully slid the one meant for him over in Kuu's general direction, abstaining from this round of drinks.
Filling the rest of the tray was toppings. Sugar, milk, creamer, marshmallows, whipped cream, and because of the festive season some fancier options like peppermint, cinnamon, vanilla, and caramel syrup. "How'd you guys like me to set these up for you?" he asked.

Elliot's words seemed to calm the rookie down, at least a little. Okay! So, he wasn't going to lose his thumbs! That was great, because he really liked being able to open doors by himself! Or, at least, most of the time. He still really hadn't figured it all out. Especially when Maia locked them. She knew his true weakness!
Of course, Kuu still hadn't been taught anything about locks. He just thought those doors magically sealed and would pop open when the right person touched the handle, or something. It was the most logical answer.
"I could find out if it's poisonous," the Digimon offered. Well, at least he was willing to be a test subject! But, then Maia would get mad, and they'd have a problem. Did eating toxic substances even actually affect a Digimon? "Or, maybe not," he added, after a little thought. The idea of Maia scolding him for eating unhealthy things, and not letting him have any cookies, was too much of a risk! Of course, that didn't mean he understood how anything funny happened because of a mistletoe. But everything else looked neat! "You mean, you put these things up?" They didn't just magically appear? One mystery, in a book of many, solved!
Trying to make their first holiday special? Aw, that was sweet! And, it seemed like Isaac was really putting a lot of work into all of it!
"I thought she would act like that, too," the teen shrugged, trying to think about how everything had gone down. Maybe, Kuu had known that, somehow, her mother would be more okay with him having a human form? But, that was surely giving her pet too much credit. "She's being all weird and motherly to him now, though." Not that Maia would complain too much. It was better than tense situations all the time. Though, it was still weird to give Kuu a room. It wasn't like the fox had many things that belonged to him. Let alone ones that required a separate room!
Feeling the squeeze on her hand, Maia returned it with one of her own. "I hope so," she agreed. It seemed like Isaac was always busy with something, wasn't he? And, on the thought of taking it easy, were MMO's really something that would help Isaac relax? Or, would he just get bored or frustrated with it? Either way, the girl was more than willing to help out with showing him the ropes! It could be something new for them to do together. "I'd love to help," she smiled, "I have a couple of friends in the game that could help you out, too, if you want." And, if Isaac didn't want other people helping too? Well, Maia had no problems playing without them.
Maybe, Maia would steal her aunt's internet and hide off in a room with her laptop. That would probably be far more tolerable. But, he thought she might actually go back to Illinois for this? "Oh, yeah, she's the reason we moved here." That would be a mess, trying to get a flight back to the States during this time of year! "If that weren't the case, I'd probably stay at home. I don't really like flying." Try, massive fear of, instead! The flight to Japan was bad enough! Or, flying on Kuu's back when it was an option. That was pretty terrifying, too.
Before the blonde could try to comfort her boyfriend, Isaac was already busy with something else. Eyes flickered to check on her partner, before looking back to see Isaac returning with... Oh, wow. A lot more than she had been expecting!
Hands flew up to the girl's mouth, completely surprised by everything! "Oh my," she mumbled through her fingers, taking in the cake and everything. She didn't realize just how 'all out' Isaac was planning!
Despite how thoughtful Isaac was being for Maia's pet, the holo-suited boy shoot his head rapidly at the offer of the third cup. "No cups! Maia's rule! I cannot be trusted with them yet!" To emphasize, the monster wiggled his thumbs awkwardly. Okay, maybe it was best that there were only three cups. Kuu hadn't really figured out how to consistently hold them yet. "No cups, glass plates, or blenders!" At least he knew the rules, though!
And, to further remove himself from the equation, the holosuit flickered briefly, before turning off, and the Kudamon whirled himself up to Elliot's shoulder to sit. It wasn't like he needed to pretend to be a person right now, anyway! They weren't in public! Of course, that didn't stop the Digimon from checking out the options for toppings. "Are those marshmallows?"
Still, Maia seemed to be in shock at all of this. When did Isaac have time for any of this? "O-oh, uh," she tried to think about how to answer the question. It wasn't like this had been in the plans! Then again, it wasn't like there really was much in the way of plans, as far as she knew. "I'm not sure." It wasn't like Maia was used to having a bunch of different choices for hot chocolate, after all! "Surprise me?" Not like he hadn't surprised her, already!

Elliot grinned at Kuu, a hint of pride in his face at Kuu's question. "Yep! Pretty neat, huh?" he asked. "Not all me, though. Isaac helped a lot too. Not as much as me, but that's because he was still on gift wrapping duty. You'll get to see that later, of course. For now, glad you like the decorations!" The lights were flickering merrily in red, green, and white, and each door was framed to perfection through green and gold sprigs. Elliot had clearly done the place over perfectionist-style, because there were barely any loose ends or wayward decorations. Even the stuff he trusted Isaac to do wasn't looking shabby at all. "Y'know, mom doesn't know about any of this. Wonder if she's gonna flip when she gets home . . . " Elliot mused, looking up at all the decorations thoughtfully.
Isaac was thinking about moms too, but in a much more surprised fashion. "Really? Huh, talk about a 180," Isaac remarked. " 'Course, she went from being astonished I existed to making me the center of attention at a family dinner, so its not like its anything out of the ordinary for her. I think." Isaac briefly shot a look in Kuu's direction. "He overwhelmed by all of this? Or is he eating all the attention up?" he asked, figuring this must've been like a second birthday of sorts for Kuu. His human rebirth day? Weird.
Maia seemed receptive to him joining the MMO, too. Today was just getting better and better! "Sounds great to me. I'd love the chance to meet some more of your friends," Isaac said. He may not have been much for games, but spending time with Maia was more than worth it in his eyes. Besides, she probably knew some cool people. Maybe there would even be a few other people Isaac knew in the mix, although he doubted it somewhat. The world was a big place, especially compared to the smaller seeming Digital World. It'd be far too convenient if he just logged on and bumped into everybody he knew.
Maybe that would be how they spent the time during Maia's aunt's party. "Oh. That makes way more sense," he said. It seemed like Maia moved here for family visits as well, even if much more positive reasons than Isaac. "Hey, think I should thank her for that?" he joked, a cheeky grin on his face.
Elliot giggled a little at Maia's shocked reaction. "Isn't my bro great?" he asked. "He's been learning how to do it like the pros, too, so you'll get a really nice drink." Best not to bring up the job yet, but now the group was clearly circling around that topic. However, what good was a drink if not everyone could share in it? Elliot gently scratched Kuu behind the ears as the Digimon scaled his shoulders. "Do you want a little bowl to drink out of, Kuu? I know you can't have cups, but I don't think it'd be fair to leave you out." he asked, offering a handful of marshmallows as a temporary compromise.
It was weird seeing Kuu following any rules. Especially ones about safety and common sense!
Isaac quickly got Elliot some marshmallows, sugar, and a shot of peppermint, the boy grinning wide in response as Isaac slid the cup over to him. For Maia, however, his procedure was much more meticulous. Enough milk to make it less overwhelming, a little bit of sugar, and then some caramel syrup and vanilla to add a nice blend of sweet flavors to the drink. That way, her sweet tooth could be appeased from a new, interesting angle. Then he added a bit of creamer, diligently shaping it with a spoon into the shape of . . . a cartridge?
Isaac grinned a little. It was showtime. Taking the whipped cream, he drew a thin, curving shape coming out from the cartridge and looping around the rim. Looking over the rim a little, he tapered off the whipped cream into a pointed nose, then used his spoon to flick some back and form the ears. Finally, some chocolate chips were used to make ear tips, a eyes, and a nose. Once the decoration was finished he gingerly turned the cup to Maia, a Kudamon made of whipped cream looking right back at her. He paired it with a big slice of cake before flopping back onto the couch. "Phew, there you go," he said, looking almost surprised that it came out so well.

"Super neat!" Kuu agreed, with a rapid nod. So neat that he wanted to eat it! "I'm good at decorating!" That probably wasn't convincing! Especially when one considered how Kuu often decorated Maia's room! And, by decorate, that meant to turn the entire area into a total disaster zone. "Can your mom flip really well?" Wrong kind of flip, Kuu! Elliot's mother surely didn't do backflips, did she? "Can I watch?"
Maia hadn't entirely wrapped her head around Kuu being accepted into her household, still. "Yeah, she's weird," she shrugged, trying not to think too much on it. After all, she should just enjoy her mom being alright with things while it lasted! Moms were strange. "Kuu doesn't care about any of it except getting his own seat at the table." Surely, that would make more than enough sense. Kuu loved food! Now he didn't have to steal scraps from Dad! If only Maia had known that getting her mom to accept her partner was as easy as making him dress up as a person.
Maybe Kuu would want to try to play the MMO, too? Surely, Maia had an old laptop tucked away someplace. But, maybe he wasn't quite ready to meet regular people. That could make for a very bad situation! Or, people online would just think he was a troll. The image of Kuu insisting "I'm not a troll! I'm a fox!" to a monitor was hilariously accurate. "I'm sure they'd like to meet you, too." As long as none of them tried to get him killed! Maybe the girl would have to warn them to play nice at first.
Eyes rolled at Isaac's grin, only to give a smile in return. "You mean meeting my parents wasn't enough for you?" It was a wonder that the two of them hadn't already scared Isaac away! Add her aunt into the mix? It could only get worse!
The tamer didn't seem to give much response to Elliot about how great his brother was. She was still trying to absorb all of this! Of course, she didn't mean to ignore him, so the blonde forced a slight nod. She really hadn't expected any of this! Kuu was more than willing to talk, though! "I'm not left out! I have marshmallows," the fox insisted, taking one from Elliot's hand with his mouth, and rapidly chewing on it. "Hot drink stuff burns my nose!"
"That's because you try to blow bubbles in them," Maia finally came around to having words to convey her thoughts. And, of course they would be directed to her pet!
"It's warm! It's gotta be on my face and bubbly!" Best logic ever! Plus, Kuu just really wanted marshmallows! And for Isaac to have his own cup of hot chocolate - though he'd never admit it!
But, again, Maia wasn't responding. Not caring about courtesy to the fox, she didn't even bother nodding at him! Then again, there was nothing to nod to about that! Kuu was just ridiculous!
...Just like the Kuu in her hot chocolate?
"This is," the blonde paused, trying to fully process the art in her cup. "Adorable!" Maia almost didn't want to drink it! Of course, whipped cream would only stay shaped like that for so long! But, first, the teen had to move to hug her boyfriend. "Thank you," she hummed, mulling over the display for a moment. "How did you learn to make whipped-cream Kuu's, anyway?"

Kuu's request left Elliot paling slightly. He and his mom were alike in so many ways. They didn't get pissed often, but when they did it could get a little explosive. He didn't want Kuu to have to witness something like that. In fact, the idea left Elliot a little uncomfortable. Either Kuu'd make the situation worse somehow, or it'd really deject the poor guy. Both possibilities left a bad taste in Elliot's mouth. "You wouldn't want to see her like this, I think," Elliot said. "It's, uh, messy." Wait! Analogies! Here came Elliot's inspiration! "Yeah! Messy! She's really not too good at flipping. But you probably shouldn't help show her. You two have really different body types. It wouldn't work. It'd be like me teaching you how to dance or something." Elliot was fairly sure he salvaged that one.
It was a little surprising to Isaac that a spotlight hog like Kuu wouldn't be drinking in all of the hype and adoration around him now. Then again, if Kuu loved anything more than attention it was food, so he might've boiled all of his cares down to the dinner table. "Heh. That's Kuu, alright," he remarked. "Wish I could be a fly on the wall for the sorts of dinner conversations he tries to strike up."
Then again, if he saw more of Maia's family, maybe he would be privy to that sort of thing. "Hey, it wasn't that bad," Isaac said, honestly enjoying it moreso than not. "I'm sure I could put up with it another time or two." Or, like, twenty. Isaac didn't mind Maia's family much at all, especially her dad. Even her mom was at least the nice sort of acquired taste. Compared to his distinct lack of a father and an emotionally burned out mother, at least it felt more like a family.
"Oh! Should we get you an iced coffee, then?" Elliot asked Kuu. "It's like a coffee, but cold. Like an ice cream!" Isaac shot Elliot a worried look, as if to say "don't you dare get Kuu caffeinated you monster," but it was too late. The words were already out of Elliot's mouth. "Still, marshmallows are great! So I'm glad you're enjoying yourself," he added, grinning.
Speaking of enjoying himself, Isaac was beaming with delight as he saw Maia's reaction to the Whipped Kuuream. "Pretty cool, huh?" he said, smirking as he stole a quick peck on Maia's cheek. "I gotta admit, I had no idea it'd come out this great. But what can I say? You never know until you try." And some people were simply always worth trying for, especially ones as special as Maia.
That still left Isaac having to answer for himself, didn't he? As Maia asked about how he did that, he hummed thoughtfully. "Well, I figured now was as good a time as any to try and get a job. And if I want to get better at playing a character, then I'd gotta get some training, right? So I decided I'd apply at the butler and maid cafe by school." Phew! Thank goodness that cat wasn't let out of the bag earlier! That kind of job could come off really weirdly if explained wrong. "It's way more hard work than I thought, but it's also been kinda fun! And, you know, jobs have plenty of other perks, too . . ."
Isaac cast a knowing glance to underneath the Christmas tree, smiling softly. Maybe Maia would notice a few presents that stuck out from the rest, wrapped up in soft-looking purple paper.
