It was a day like any other at Whitewater. The sun was shining, the digibirds were singing, and Mana was handing out wanted posters.
Well, not exactly wanted, but they were posters with really really really crude drawings of Elliot and Isaac on them. In all frankness, a casual observer would say that they weren't even drawings, but elaborate stick figures. If it weren't because at the botton of it was written "Elliot" and "Isaac", probably nobody except her would realize who (or what) was she searching for.
"Miss... are you sure this will work? I am not the most skillful artist, but I am afraid I cannot really identify the people in these..."
Ayaka, as always, was being the voice of reason. And Mana, as always, was the one to not to pay too much heed to it.
"Don't worry, Aya! Just be sure to hand these out. If what I've been told is right, information travels fast in Whitewater, so I'm sure I'll find Elliot and Isaac ASAP! You just gotta trust."
"Very well, miss."
The fairy wasn't really sure, but her partner seemed to be really bent on doing this. Mana felt a bit guilty about losing contact with the brothers. They had been among the most helpful people she had ever met, but due to a... series of unfortunate events, she had ended up getting separated from them. That was something she had to fix, otherwise she'd probably won't forgive herself for that.

Five seconds. The brother turned their back for five seconds, and Haley disappeared on them. At first they figured it'd be fine. All they'd have to do was sit in the Village of Beginnings for a bit, right? They waited for at least half of a Digital World day before realizing that plan wasn't happening anytime soon. That was when casual worry turned into full-blown panic.
Full-blown panic, in this case, manifested in the form of a 4-day long dragon search party. Inside of Dualdramon's twin brains, quite the conversation was raging on.
Bro, its been, like, four days. I don't know how long I can keep this up . . .
You're the one who suggested we fly because its faster. Besides, I keep telling you to sleep and let me take this shift. Wasn't that why we fused in the first place?
I don't really think fusion works that way. We're sharing energy, aren't we? Ugh, this is all so confusing.
Look. The last place we gotta check is Whitewater. If she's not there, we can call the Digi-cops or something, okay?
There's no such thing as Digi-cops!
Wasn't Yuu a law marshal or something?
Whatever!
This'll all be over soon. I promise. Then we can finally rest . . . A yawn escaped from Dualdramon's mouth, a small puff of hellfire escaping along with the sound.
Was it any surprise that the great dragon's landing at Whitewater was more like a crash landing? It was practically falling asleep at the metaphorical wheel, and the sleepy bros only had enough time to flare out their fusion's wings before it started entering into a nosedive. Thanks to that last bit of emergency action, Dualdramon was at least able to land relatively painlessly. As it hit the ground it curled up, looking for all the world like a braid some giant left lying on the floor.
Then the dragon started to shimmer and split, Elliot and Isaac left in a slumbering pile on the floor in Dualdramon's place. Hopefully nobody mugged them while they were asleep.

Ayaka feared her suspicions would come true, and that inevitably would sadden her partner, but... well, she had said the most logical outcome of her quest. Handing out posters was probably not going to work. Like... at all.
Now, how could she say that gently, without making Mana sad about it? Even though she hadn't met the people she was searching, she could guess they were at least good friends. Or maybe she just tended to go overboard with everything she did. Either or.
"Uh... Miss? Can we talk?" No moment like the present, she guessed. "I think this endeavor is fated to..."
"Aya, look, at the distance!" Mana pointed at the sky, signaling a figure that taking a pretty abrupt dive. "It's coming... right towards where we are? Wonder what it is."
Of course, the digimon wasn't all that excited about it. Maybe it was a projectile? An enemy? It could be...
"It is... a dragon? And I would risk to say that he is either stunned or has lost the ability to control its flight. Strange..."
Its body collided with the ground, not far from them, and without even thinking about it, Mana went towards that place. She was curious!
"Miss... is this a good idea? Are you sure that being near that thing is safe?"
Sure, she meant well, but Ayaka could be overbearing at times. Like... right now, for example.
"Don't worry, everything will be alright!" Now let's check what was that about.
Imagine the girl's surprise when she found no more and no less than... the people she was searching for. As lucky as they came.
"Oh, guys, you arrived just in time!" Soundly asleep, apparently. This probably would take some work. Slowly and carefully, she went next to the pair and gently shook them by their shoulders. "Guys... this is probably not the best place to sleep, so... wakey wakey?"

Unfortunately for Mana, Isaac was an incredibly steady sleeper. No amount of her shaking, even on the cold, hard ground, seemed to put a dent in his snoozing. In fact, he was practically rolling away from her as she tried to shake him awake, eventually ending up out of arm's reach. Once safe and sound, Isaac continued to snooze the day away.
Elliot, on the other hand, slept as lightly as a feather. The second Mana laid a hand on his shoulder he shuffled uncomfortably, eyes fluttering open. "Huh? Wha?" he muttered, clearly in a daze. "Come on, I need five more minutes. Please . . . wait, Haley?"
Noticing who he was dealing with managed to get him awake. Immediately Elliot sprang to his feet, wrapping his arms around Mana in a cheerful hug. "Haley! I knew I'd find you!" he chirped, the grin on his face equal parts weary and relieved. "Where the heck have you been? Isaac and I have been looking all over the Digial World for you! Please, please tell me you didn't get hurt or anything like that . . .
Oh! I should wake Isaac!" Elliot broke the hug and turned to Isaac, clearing his throat gently. "Excuse me, please," he said, voice gentle. He stooped next to Isaac daintily, and then proceeded to practically shout in his ear. "Isaac! Come on! Get up! We found Haley!" he shouted, at volumes that'd deafen any normal man but seemed to have no impact on Isaac.
"Give it a second. He's a really heavy sleeper." Thank you, Captain Obvious!

That attempt at waking the brothers up had… mixed results. Isaac was still out cold, almost like a stone; Elliot, on the other hand, woke up almost instantly. After a tiny shrug, Mana smiled; good enough.
“Yup, it’s me!” She responded happily, glad to see that the two were mostly okay. who knows what could’ve happened in that crash. She hugged back at Elliot, all whilst hearing his plethora of questions and statements.
In all honesty, she didn’t know where to begin. So she responded to everything in order.
“Well, it was more like I found you, I think? It’s a long story; I’ve been in a lot of places, and I’d prefer to tell the whole tale once Isaac wakes up, just not to repeat it. And no, don’t worry! I’m a-ok! I'm kinda getting used to this place's sunny weather and I'm not doing a good job at it, but that's not something to be overly worried about, right?" On the other hand... she was somewhat concerned about the welfare of the brothers. They looked exhausted at the very least. "What about you? You look like you haven't slept in a fair amount of time, but... I guess that's kinda obvious."
She watched with some curiosity how the younger sibling tried to wake up the older. His tactic was... interesting, even though it was ultimately ineffective.
"He'll eventually wake up for sure, don't worry. Maybe we should go to a better place to talk? I doubt the middle of the street's fitting."

"I dunno, I'm pretty sure we're the ones who found you. Or at least, I hope we are. Otherwise, we would've done a really bad job of looking for you!" Elliot said, laughing wearily. Considering he'd been flying for half of a week and found her by what literally amounted to an accidental fall, he probably was really bad at it. "But I'm glad you're getting used to the weather. This all must still be a lot to get used to, isn't it? I can't wait to hear all about how things have been for you . . ."
Oh, right. Moving somewhere else. Elliot took out his Digivice, turning it over in his hand pensively. "This shouldn't be too hard for Strikedramon," he said, pressing on the button and squeezing his eyes shut in concentration. Briefly he faded into light, Strikedramon's broad, powerful visage emerging from the resulting glow. However, just as quickly as the glow started it seemed to stop. Strikedramon's silhouette collapsed right back into Elliot's solid form with a sad farting noise. "Or not," he said, puzzled. "I guess I'm too tired to pull it off. That's not good."
With nothing else to do, Elliot stooped down to try and pick Isaac up. It was easier said than done; the two were about the same size, and thanks to his walking stick Elliot only really had one arm to work with. He tried to deadlift Isaac, slide Isaac onto his shoulders, or even lift Isaac up bridal style, but it seemed like nothing was going to work. In fact, it was just tiring Elliot out further. Eventually he was reduced to just flipping Isaac over, giving him a few half-hearted pokes with his walking stick to try and wake him up. It wasn't working.
"I'm sorry, Haley . . ." Elliot said, weakly smiling at Mana. "I'm sure he'll wake up eventually!"

"Well, you have the credit if it'll make you happier; not like a mind." She made a tiny shrug. "I'm glad that you two are more or less okay though. I'd have felt horrible if something happened to any of you."
In all frankness, she hadn't had the time to be overly worried about the two of them; time had flown by as far as the girl was concerned and the events that had transpired in the meantime, but... that was probably something that she wouldn't mention right now. Or at all, for that matter.
Mana couldn't resist to giggle at the failed attempt Elliot did in order to spirit evolve; it had been a little comical, in all honesty. The next attempts he made weren't as fun, and made her a little concerned. Enough for her to decide to get involved, at least.
"It's fine, it's fine. I'll take care of it." She said. "I've kinda done this in the past, so it's not a big deal."
Going to where the older boy was, Mana slide Isaac onto her shoulder, providing him support. It wasn't exactly fast, but at least they were somewhat able to move.
"Oooh, right!" She knew she was forgetting about something. Right away, she pointed at Ayaka, who was just behind them, but in total silence, almost as if... waiting for permission to speak, or something. "That's one my partners; her name's Ayaka. Pretty, isn't she? She could afford to relax a little, too. But that probably's not happening anytime soon."
"I am delighted to make your acquaintance, Mister Elliot. Miss Mana has told me a lot about you; I am extremely grateful at you for having taken care of her while I could not."
The fairy bowed briefly, that gesture prompting another shrug from her partner. Sometimes she was definitely over the top.

Elliot was admittedly a little surprised that Haley was able to lift Isaac like that, but then again she had three inches on the both of them. Something about being alone and confused made a person look a lot smaller than they actually were, and now it was clear that she was easily confident (and tall) enough to hold her own. Still, he insisted on waiting by her side, occasionally reaching out a little to help steady Isaac. "Thank you so much," he said, voice still somewhat haggard. "When he's tired, he can be one heck of a deadweight. Good thing you have experi-
Wait. You said you did this in the past?" Slowly, Elliot's tired grin turned into outright beaming. "You have a past! Did you get some of your memory back? Oh, thank goodness. It must've been so scary being left without it . . ." If he was any less tired, Elliot would've probably gushed the entire way there. Instead he petered out halfway through, focusing what little energy he had left on making sure Isaac was being properly balanced. Older brothers were precious cargo, after all.
As he walked he talked, looking at Haley's partner. "Oh! Its great to meet you too, Ayaka. And hey, don't worry about it. It's not like you could help being in an egg like that, right? I know now that you're here, Ha-" Oh crapbaskets, that wasn't her name! "-Mana is so lucky to have you.
Mana's a really pretty name, by the way," he offered, smiling shyly.
As this happened, the tired pile of teen once known as Isaac started to stir. He looked around, yawning a bit as he realized that his feet weren't on the ground anymore. "Huh? Wait, what's going on? I was just flying, like, a second ago," he said, absolute bewilderment in his voice.

Despite what Elliot said, Isaac wasn't that heavy; she wouldn't deny that she was struggling a bit to carry him around, but he definitely was lighter than the last person she had carried around.
"It's not that bad, don't worry." She said, smiling. In all honesty, this place's heat was way more bothersome than having to carry Isaac around. Oh, right! She had totally forgotten to tell Elliot that, in fact, her memory was a little less hazy now. Just a bit, but that was quite the improvement compared to her previous condition. "Yup! I kinda got some help from different people I supposedly knew in the past; some were really nice and helpful, while others... sounded like they were creeps, more or less. Still, help's help, I guess."
Another good thing was that the younger brother didn't seem to mind Ayaka's over the top politeness; in fact, he seemed to reciprocate it somewhat. Maybe they'd become good friends? Mana certainly hoped so. "Thanks." She couldn't help to blush a bit at the mention of her name being pretty. "It felt nice to get my name back. I mean, not that Haley wasn't cool or anything, but... it just wasn't the real thing."
She probably was rambling, but the whole matter was... a little weird. Or maybe she was making an ocean from a glass of water. Whatever; at least Isaac waking up served for her to dismiss those thoughts and focus on the groggy teenager.
"Good morning, sleeping beauty. It was about time." She greeted, grinning at him jokingly. "Do you want for us to keep carrying you around? Or you think you're able to walk? Both work for me; we aren't that far anyway."

"I'm so glad you were able to find help," Elliot said, relief washing over his eyes. "I hope none of the creeps tried to give you trouble or anything, though. I swear, if they ever did, I'd . . ." Elliot was not very good at being threatening, so the most he did was puff his cheeks indignantly as he thought about all of the cool stuff he'd totally do to help his friend out. "Who'd you bump into? Old friends, or just kind strangers?"
Mana seemed a little bit hesitant about giving up her newly-given name, but Elliot gave a reassuring smile in response. "Hey, your name's your name. I know I'd feel weird if someone just started calling me Fernando or something," he responded. "Did it feel weird sounding it out again the first few times? Or did it just feel all natural right away?" So many questions today! However, even if Elliot was rambling a little, he was just so happy everything was good with Mana again.
Maybe Isaac would've been too if he was a bit less drowsy. As is, he still seemed a little dazed. "About time?" he repeated. "About time we found you, more like! Where the heck have you been all this time? I swear, Elliot was worried sick about you."
"I wasn't that worried!" Liar, liar. " 'Sides, Mana's in good hands. She can take care of herself, and Ayaka can help whenever she can't. Right, guys?"
"Well, I'll trust her on that one," Isaac said, grinning a bit. "I think I can handle walking on my own. Just need to get a few yawns out first." With that, he eased himself off of Mana's shoulder, stretching and yawning before catching back up with the group.
"So, what've you been up to all this time?"

"Yeah. I'm kiiinda glad too, I guess." Once again, Mana had found herself shrugging; truth to be told, she had gotten more questions than answers, but that wasn't something she'd mention just yet. The redhead couldn't resist to smile at Elliot's earnest protective gesture; that was so kind of him. "Don't worry. The details are kind of interesting, but for now, let's just say that I had... really strange acquaintances. In all honesty, I don't know what they are, or were, rather."
There was an air of finality on that last word; a rather obvious divergence from her usual tone. For a second, Ayaka gave her a concerned look, prompting... another shrug.
"Fernando wouldn't fit you, that's for sure!" She joked, leaving that topic behind. "If I found you without your memories... I'd probably call you Robert. Or Dan, maybe..." At this point she was giggling mostly to herself and her lame jokes. "Not going to lie; Mana sounds... weird. Even now it sounds a bit off; I mean, I'm totally sure that's my name, but I can't avoid feeling it... a bit weird."
It was strange for sure, but there was nothing she could do about it. Luckily, Isaac waking up put an end to that momentary awkwardness. And... seemed to be concerned; repeating Elliot's reaction but being a lot more direct at it, something to which the girl just smiled. Isaac was being just Isaac, after all. She slowed down, giving him enough time to wake up properly and catch up to them before she finally began to speak.
"It's been... a rather strange journey, in all honesty." Remembering everything that had happened made her realize that she probably had underrated how wild her little adventure was. "I... met some old acquaintances, got drunk, saw some digimon fights, returned to the human world, met even more people, and kinda got dragged temporarily into another dimension or something by somebody who claimed to be my boyfriend. Pretty wild, isn't it? Ayaka over here and Suzuran, my other partner, hatched while those things transpired; probably the only straight up good thing that happened to me those days. So... right now I'm with more questions than before, but here I am. I kinda wanna delve into the bottom of the barrel; looks like something interesting to do, at the very least."
It probably was too much information tossed too fast, and she knew that probably more questions would follow up, but... oh right. She had forgotten something. Mana looked at Ayaka with a somewhat apologetic look. "Yes, you can greet Isaac. Go ahead."
"I am very pleased to meet you, Mr Isaac. Thank you very much for looking after Miss Mana while I could not."

"Were . . ."
Elliot found himself turning that word over in his head, over and over again. What her acquaintances were. What did that even mean? Did they change to the point of being unrecognizable? Did she no longer want to be acquaintances with them? Was there a death among the group? The way she put so much finality in her statement was a little uncomfortable. Yet despite all of that, she said not to worry. That obviously meant she was okay, right? Elliot tended to take things at face value, but even he found himself a little thrown off by how Mana spoke and what she said. "Well, if you ever want to talk about it, I'm here for you, okay?" Elliot offered, trying to not let his confusion show.
Thankfully, Mana's attempt at an ice breaker worked wonders. Elliot stopped worrying and started laughing as soon as he heard some of the names Mana was suggesting. "Oh man, but Dan sucks!" he giggled, realizing a little too late that a Street Fighter joke would probably go over the head of someone who had very few portions of her memory back. "I can explain that one later. For now, I'm really glad you're getting a bit more used to being Mana, he added hastily. He made sure to stress her name somewhat, both to get used to it himself and to help her feel more comfortable.
By the time Isaac was aware enough to join in the conversation, Mana had started getting into the details of how she spent the past 5 days. A new partner, a lot of fighting, a maybe-boyfriend, and some time in both worlds. It all sounded pretty interesting, and hopefully made a great start for Mana's adventures. That said, two things jumped out at the bros.
"Wait, you got drunk?"
"You're telling us there's another dimension besides these two? Seriously?"
Naturally, the brothers had vastly different priorities. While waiting for the ensuing description about parallel universes and half button presses, Isaac figured he'd shift those priorities to meeting the rest of Team Mana. He turned to Ayaka, grinning. "Ah, no need to be so formal. But it's great to meet you. How's it been so far?
By the way, you mentioned another partner, right Mana? Think we could meet her too?"

"Don't worry about it. And thanks; for offering to be there in case I need you. It's... really nice of your part, you know?" Mana's cheeks blushed slightly after that comment. Elliot could really be a sweetheart at times.
The topic shifted into something a lot more entertaining, however. Namely... why her name of choice was pretty. "It may suck." She said, snickering a bit. "But I'm pretty sure that Red's way worse." Giggling a bit, she continued. "And yeaah. It'll probably take some time, but... I'm glad I'm starting to be me, I guess."
That topic finally began to shift as Isaac began to leave the dreamlands. In all honesty, Mana probably had said more than what she should have; at least those two were concerned... in their own way, at least.
"Yeah, I got drunk. I kiiinda didn't know that I was thirteen, you know? At least I'm sure I'm not drinking whiskey ever again; man, having a hangover sucks and the taste isn't even good." The other question was a little trickier, though. "Well, in all honesty it was a little bit uncanny. I don't know if it was another dimension or if I just got drugged up or what, but I can safely say that the experience was rather otherworldly. So... I'm not entirely sure; just take my words with a grain of salt."
Meanwhile, Ayaka smiled politely at the older brother. "No complaints here. While things could have gone smoother these days, at least the three of us are doing fine. That is what matters, I think. How about you two?"
Isaac probably didn't need to ask that question, though. Of course they could meet Suzu! Well, once she found them, that is. "Oh, of course! She's probably doing her stuff somewhere around the city, but I'm sure she'll find us in time. So, for now... let's just go to a place with actual shade. I swear I'm melting at any moment now."
They'd reach the shack in no time, probably. Or at least, that's what Mana hoped.

"Aw, it's the least I could do!" Elliot chirped, a shy smile on his face. "I mean, that's what friends are for, right? So trust me, I'll be right here." Even with Elliot being somewhat disoriented, his voice was still quite genuine. Then again, considering he was such a light sleeper, he was probably like this more often than he cared to admit.
Bringing up Red again got him giggling, though. "I know, right? Man, what the heck was I thinking?" he asked. "Thank goodness you picked Isaac's idea instead. Although I think you made the best choice now. It suits you." Why yes, Elliot. Her own name suits her quite well. Such an astute observation on your part!
Isaac found himself focusing more on her other statement. "Eh, you've got a point. I think I could buy you being a little old lady," he joked. "Still, jeez, starting off with the strong stuff. No wonder it caught you so off guard." Isaac wasn't too accustomed to alcohol himself, either. The man he refused to call father indulged in it every now and then, but he himself couldn't stand the smell of the stuff. And that was just beer! He had a feeling whiskey like Mana mentioned would've killed him.
So, too, did this concept of parallel dimensions. "That . . . sounds really weird. What happened, if I can ask?" he asked, trying to compile some of this thoughts on the matter. Otherworldly experiences could be major headaches.
While Isaac tried to get to the bottom of things, Elliot picked the conversation with Ayaka back up. "Things have been okay for us. We've gotten to see a lot of the Digital World, at least!" he said. That was one way to take their incompetence and put a happy spin on it. "I'm glad we could get a bit of a nap, though. That was way too much flying for one day."
Per Mana's request, both brothers started speeding up their pace. If they were going to get to the shade in a timely fashion, they'd need to hustle.

Mana couldn't help but giggle some more at Elliot's statement. Well, yes; it was kinda obvious, but she thought that using her name was the right choice. Otherwise she wouldn't be using it in first place, right? "Thanks. I'm glad you like my name's. Yours not too bad either, yanno."
It felt slightly awkward, but as far as the redhead was concerned, it was fine. Being totally honest, she couldn't say she knew too much about the boy she had besides her, and that made the conversation a bit... weird, she guessed? Anyhow... at least she had Isaac's inquiries to distract herself from thinking about whether this was awkward or not. "I know, right? The person who offered me the whiskey thought I was... seventeen, or something along those lines, so I guess I can say I look way more mature than what I really am?" Another innocent giggle. "That or I was played like fiddle to drink something I shouldn't. At least nothing overly bad sprang from that experience. Not counting the hangover, that is."
What happened after that small conversation was what really threw her off. In fact, she still couldn't entirely wrap her mind around it and that worried her somewhat. "The funniest part about it is that it happened in the human world. On one second I was on an apartment, then I see my maybe-boyfriend, then I see two more who look more or less identical to him, then I find myself inside of one of my supposed memories, even though I look nothing like I look now, so..." She shrugged, as if not knowing how to end that sentence up. "I ended up more confused than when I was before that. Funny, ain't it? The almost frantic insistence on that particular person about being my boyfriend didn't do much to make the situation better, either. All in all, a gigantic wreck that I prefer to forget for the time being. I plan on sort what happened there eventually. Just not now."
Luckily, just as she had guessed, they weren't really far from the shack. By the time Mana had finished explaining those, the foursome were already in front of the small building. "Well, here we are. Come in." For now, there wasn't anybody inside; a relief, in a sense. The place itself was small, and sides a desk filled with papers and documents and its chair, the only furniture around were some hammocks hanging over the place. "Get yourselves comfortable; I don't know how mine this place is, but I'm sure whoever owns this place won't mind having you around for the day. You should really rest, guys; I'm being captain obvious here, but you really look like you need it."
