OOC: This will be a double MPC for the prompts "In-training, my dear Watson" and "All the Me I could Be".
The atmosphere in the drawing room was tense. The host, hostess and his guests were all nervously watching the figure pace the room. Dressed in a deerstalker hat and a brown coat, a pipe in his mouth, an Impmon was clearly putting on the theatrics as he was about to reveal to the room what his astute powers of observation had uncovered.
"I found no traces of blood, making this a curious case. No weapon appears to have been involved, which can only mean that the cause of this murder was... poison" the Impmon said, making this as dramatic as possible.
"Poison?!" the hostess repeated, looking quite astonished.
"Indeed. By process of elimination, no violence was done in this dastardly deed. But who could have done it? The only one to touch the victim's food must have been the cook perhaps? Or the waitress? But what would be the motive? Tell me, my dear Watson..." he turned to the other figure, an Elecmon dressed with a shirt, jacket and tie. "Who could possibly have had the motive to do this?"
"My name is Luke, not Watson, Bellamy" the Elecmon said. Eventually, growing more and more exasperated, the host could hold it in no more.
"...there hasn't even been a murder here!" the host snapped.
"Really?" Bellamy asked, a bit taken aback.
"Yes!" Ms. James, a guest, said, crossly. "We were simply here having an ELEGANT DINNER PARRHHTIE for the most ELEGANT people in ALL of TOKYO!!"
"Quiet please Irma" the host said to the drunk lady. "And then you two barge in and start searching through our drawers and shelves and eating our biscuits and claiming that you're solving crime!"
"Oh, right... is this 20 Shinjuku Place?" Bellamy said.
"No, that's across the road" the host said.
"Ah. Well, Watson, you've really messed up this time" Bellamy remarked to his brother, who rolled his eyes. He turned around. "I'm most awfully sorry for this. Can we stay anyway?"
"Absolutely not!" the host snapped. "You two aren't even wearing pants!"
Bellamy and Luke blinked, looked down, realized they were wearing nothing from the waist down, but Bellamy merely shrugged. "Very well then. I shall bid you good day. Come, Watson".
"It's Luke" Luke muttered, irritably. The two made to leave.
"Oh for goodness sake, get some trousers on!" the host snapped, but Bellamy didn't hear. Without further ado, they retired to their apartment.
As Bellamy and Luke walked home, the Impmon decided to go on a monologue. "So then, my dear Watson" he said. By now Luke had given up on correcting him. "While we appear to have not solved a crime tonight, what say you and I return to our premises for a variety of parlour games revolving around my unique powers of obvservation?"
"Actually, Bellamy, I was thinking maybe we could just cross the road and go see about this crime that needs to be solved?" Luke suggested.
"Hm, well, some would say that it is better to not turn up at all than turn up embarrassingly late" Bellamy said. Luke was exasperated.
"Bells, look at us. We're so poor we can't even afford pants. It's the middle of night in a chilly winter in Tokyo. I swear if we had junk they would've freeze-snapped off by now. We need that damn job!"
"Hmm. Your astuteness may not be up to par, Watson, but your logic has moved me" Bellamy said, puffing his pipe. "Very well, we shall see this crime scene and try to make a night of it, eh?"
The two of them crossed the road to the other elegant house in uptown Shibuya. Bellamy rang the doorbell, and it was opened by a blond haired young man.
"Er, yes?" he asked.
"Greetings" Bellamy said, tipping his deerstalker hat. "I am Sherlock Bells and this is my assistant Dr. Watson. I believe you sent for a private investigator?"
"Um, yes, we did, but two have already arrived" the young man said. "Er... well, okay, you can enter anyway. I'm Tadao Asahina by the way" he allowed them in. Luke and Bellamy were curious as to who the other investigators could be. And so they walked through the elegant house and arrived in the drawing room, where the sight of two others completely stunned them.
"Mr. Asahina, a pair of tramps seem to have walked inside" one said. He was another Elecmon, dressed in a smart casual outfit and wearing sunglasses.
"I think not, monseur" an Impmon said, dressed in a bowler hat and a neat grey jacket, vest and tie, a plucky moustache under his nose, speaking with a strong Belgian accent. "These appear to be Sherlock Bells and Monseur Watson. Perhaps I may recommend zat you need not wear your sunglasses indoors at night, eh?"
"I can't. Sunglasses are my thing" the second Luke said. "After all, I'm the intense red haired guy who gets all the one-liners".
"...What the devil is going on here?!" Bellamy asked, walking up to the other pair. "Who are you two meant to be?!"
"We are but seemple crime-solvers like yourself" the Belgian Bellamy said. "I am Bellacule Poirot and this is my colleague Lucatio Caine".
"And you're a little late, boys, because this case..." the other Luke took off his sunglasses and put them on again. "Has already been closed".
There was silence as the other Luke seemed smug. The real Bellamy and Luke blinked. "Was something meant to happen just now?" Luke asked.
"Yeah, it's meant to be a big 'yeeeaaahh' followed by the opening credits" the other Luke explained.
Tadao meanwhile was watching all this with an incredulous expression. Four talking animals were in his family drawing room playing detectives. "This is all funny and all, but, there has been a murder in this place tonight" he said. "So... do you guys wanna solve it or...?"
"Very well, monseur" the Belgian Bellamy said, sauntering into the other room. "Let us see the crime scene".
So, it seemed it was some kind of competition, eh? Well then. Bellamy and Luke were always up for a challenge. They followed the party to the crime scene.
So, it happened in the dining room, it seemed. The crime scene was barricaded off, the terrified residents and guests of the mansion gathered outside. The four detectives entered the room, to see the body of a man on the floor.
"So, how did he die?" the real Bellamy asked, pulling out a magnifying glass, inspecting the carnage.
"Hmm. Well, Bells, it seems to have been caused by these three holes in his body" Luke said, crouching down and inspecting up close.
"Incredible. And what caused these holes?" Bellamy asked, looking at them with his magnifying glass.
"I'm not sure, Bells, but I think these pieces of metal have something to do with it" Luke said, holding up a piece of lead that was in the middle of this hole.
"That as it may be, Watson, these pieces of metal would have to been thrown extremely hard to cause this amount of damage" Bellamy said, looking at the Bullet. It was then that the second Luke snatched it out of his hand, holding it to his assistant, a black-haired boy.
"Colin, take this down to the lab" he said, handing over the bullet. "Make sure to put it through our special high-tech 3D-imaging technology that'll tell us the make of the gun and the blood type of the owner".
As Colin scurried from the room, the real Bellamy and Luke scowled at the copy, who was putting his paws on his hips and trying to look as dashing as possible.
"Ah but monseur, you don't need special technology to solve this crime" the second Bellamy said, calmly walking around the room. "First let us considair the facts. Zis man was shot three times. Ze question is, why? Monseur Asahina, when did zis tragedy occur?"
"Well, we were all in the living room when Mr. Tojishiro here was still a bit hungry, so he seemed to have... left the room to get some seconds?" Tadao said, unsurely.
"Perhaps he was peckish, or perhaps he was beckoned to a private room by ze murderer?" the Belgian Bellamy mused. "Do you know anyone who would have a reason to dislike Monseur Tojishiro?"
"No, well, other than Mr. Matsumoto, who's probably jealous because he slept with his wife" Tadao said. All eyes turned to this Mr. Matsumoto, who blinked.
"...I didn't know that Tojishiro slept with my wife!" he turned to her. "Is this true, Akiko?"
"Oh of course you wouldn't know! You never bother caring about anything I do!" Akiko snapped, folding her arms and turning away. While this was happening, the real Luke and Bellamy were looking for clues elsewhere.
"Looks like this party may have been brought down a notch" the second Luke remarked, going through a series of poses.
"Indeed, monseur, zat is if ze dead body on ze dining room floor may not have already done enough" the Belgian Bellamy said sarcastically. "I apologize, everyone, but, when dealing with a crime such as this, all sorts of unfortunate truths must be brought to light".
The real Luke and Bellamy had left the room momentarily while the Belgian Bellamy and the second Luke were competing to be the center of attention.
"This is all very entertaining, Bellacule, but your 20th century methods might be a little outdated here" Luke said, as Colin returned with the results from the lab. "According to this, the gun was a Smith & Wesson .357, unregistered and smuggled into Japan to bypass the strict weapon laws. Sold in the black market by corrupt dock workers, and landed in the possession of a native Japanese male, blood type A, aged 20 to 40 years old".
"...and you found zat information from a single bullet" the Belgian Bellamy said, blankly.
"Sorry, mon-sure, as impressive as your moustache is, things have got a little more advanced since the 1920's" the swaggering Luke shrugged. It was at this point that the real Luke and Bellamy returned to the room.
"A wizard did it" Bellamy said, confidently. All stared at him.
"...what?" Tadao asked, hardly believing this.
"It was all on tape" Luke said, holding up a video cassette. "Shall we play it?"
"Well... uh... by all means, monseur" the Belgian Bellamy said, awkwardly. And so the tape was played. It showed Mr. Tojishiro entered the dining room, taking a few snacks, then a Wizardmon entered the shot and struck him with a Thunderbolt, making him fall to the floor convulsing, then dead. Then Mrs. Matsumoto entered the room and shot his body twice. And then Mr. Matsumoto shot it a third time. Before finally Tadao noticed the body and ran.
"Well..." Tadao said, awkwardly. "I didn't know this place had cameras".
"Technically I was half-right, yes?" the Belgian Bellamy said, smugly. "The Matsumotos did shoot him".
"And I was right about the gun too" said the second Luke, pulling a gun out of Mr. Matsumoto's pocket, holding it by the barrel.
"Well then..." Tadao said, awkwardly. "What do we do about that digimon?"
"We report them to DATS of course" said the real Bellamy.
"But Bells, they don't exist" said the real Luke.
"Oh. Well, bugger if I know, but as far as I'm concerned, this case is closed" Bellamy said, yawning. "If you'll excuse us gentlemen, it's time for us to leave".
And so with the case closed, with a city wide search for a murderous Wizardmon beginning, and Mr. and Mrs. Matsumoto charged for defiling a corpse and perverting the course of justice, Luke and Bellamy and their odd clones retired for the night.
