The Prince of Tennis [Guest Starring Fusion] (Luke and Iko)

Hey, man, you're in my head right now. This is practically an open book test, Isaac joked. Trust me, though. Elliot's way worse than about kind of thing. He's a good kid, but man is a big nerd sometimes. At least Isaac thought that judgment with all the fondness in his heart. Still. Can't say this has been half bad so far. I expected a lot more tag team fighting against the demons in our heads. Instead, this has actually been really pleasant. Isaac didn't even have to deal with NeoDevimon right now. It was great!
Less great was the complete lack of tennis awareness that SkullSatamon had on the tennis court. Isaac facepalmed as he watched the demon settle into a pattern. Maybe the first few whirls of the Bonestorm were conscious efforts at stopping Luke's shots, but he had all too quickly allowed himself to go on autopilot. And why not? It was quicker and more efficient than putting brainpower into it, especially when as far as he could tell Luke had settled into a pattern as well. Okay. Maybe it's a good idea we're doing this first, Isaac muttered. If SkullSatamon gets cocky like this in a real fight, we're dead. Sure enough, a series of successive parries ended in a faint and a stab to the side. First blood (or in this case, more like 8th blood) went to Iko.
"Oh, so we're tricking each other now," SkullSatamon said, slowly understanding how this game of smashball worked. "Sounds good to me!" It seemed like SkullSatamon was going to make another standard serve to Luke's corner, the length of his staff making the swing quite telegraphed as it always was. However, rather than swing with the netted end of his staff, he quickly twirled the staff and smashed it with the orb portion. What was once a shot obviously going to Luke's corner was now being drilled down the center of the court, a feint designed to do to Luke what Luke had done to SkullSatamon.
Last minute? What happened? Isaac asked, curious how such an amazing player was cut down so quickly. Frankly, the situation had Digital World written all over it.

Mm, you think he's being cocky? At this point, old Skully here knows that Luke's been playing him in the palm of his hand. I'm interested to see what happens when he applies these crazy ideas to something he's actually good at! It was difficult to tell, just from one tennis game, how much of this actually played into SkullSatamon's personality. For all they knew, when the chips were on the line, he could have a conservative and commanding fighting style.
Iko doubted it, but that could have been the case! Even now, SkullSatamon was setting up another trick to try and get the ball past Luke, albeit telegraphed by his chuckling tone. If anything, it was an open book saying 'look, I'm about to try something crazy', and now Luke had all the time in the world to expect something weird. What the SkullSatamon did, though, wasn't something that he expected: there were no shadows, no light-shows, no bonestorms. No, what the demon did was a normal-looking serve, abusing the awkward, round part of the staff! Luke was forced to double back, a much slower forehand returning the ball to the SkullSatamon's side.
"Oh, come now, that all?" He sensed opportunity, and with that slower ball, readied that shadows around his racquet. On the return, and finally able to use the whole court, the SkullSatamon let out a powerful smash, shadows lying the ball as it soared across the opposite side of the court. And this forced Luke to dive, swinging the racquet at the furthest possible distance.
And, as far as the SkullSatamon could tell, the ball had simply vanished. "Ha! I knew I'd finally get one on you! It just goes to show that the Red Demon can do anything-"
*Tink*
"... Eh?" He felt a 'tap' at the top of his head. Luke's return was awkward, yes: it had sent the ball sky-high over the net, quickly out of the SkullSatamon's expected vision. To any experienced tennis player, this sort of lob was a vulnerability, enough to cause a return smash way too fast to even dream of returning. But the Red Demon barely knew what he was doing: the ball tapped him, square on the top of his head, and lazily bounced twice on his side of the court! "... Now how did that get there?"
"Oh, you're not the only one allowed to use tricks." Luke was back on his feet, stretching out his back. Now it was zero-fifteen, and Luke had seen yet another trick from the fused ultimate! "Sheesh... but now you're making me dive..."
What happened? According to Luke, some stupid accident. Bookcase in a library smashed his left wrist, and he was forced to have the hand removed. Thankfully the school had him keep the scholarship, but...

So this really is just warmup exercises for him, Isaac remarked, wondering what SkullSatamon had to gain from letting Luke play him in the palm of his hand like that. Was it to help give Luke a bit of confidence too? Maybe this fusion therapy really was for everyone involved's benefit. What do you think his endgame is here? You've had way more experience reading people, and I've been having a tricky time getting a sense of what this guy's up to. It was ironic, considering that right now "this guy" basically was Isaac! Or, at least, half Isaac's impulses, half Iko's impulses, and half some kind of weird mystery meat that made the fusion pop. Was it Kuu? Isaac swore, if this thing had a case of Kuubrain . . .
At least now Luke was getting a real workout! The Red Demon had pulled off quite the one-two punch of tricks, and while he still lost the point in quite a humorous manner Luke had been forced to break out a few tricks of his own first. He scooped up the ball and continued to examine it, almost fascinating to the demon. Then he grinned, drifting back to his corner to ready another serve. "Well! Looks like it'll take one more good trick to tie things up over here, eh?" he asked, as if there weren't two fully won games backing up this "stalemate".
For now, it'd be business as usual. Throw out a regular serve, then seemingly be about to get return aced yet again. However, this time SkullSatamon had a plan. Once Luke returned the ball, he would light up in shadowfire. Only the red glow in his orb, core, and eye sockets hinted at how he was moving now, the shadowfire giving him the burst of adrenaline needed to catch up to any incoming volley and return it. Or, at least, any incoming volley that he didn't overextend himself for. In addition to the speed boost, this shadowfire empowered his strikes, making them almost as strong as the Shadow Rend he had loved to accent his swings with.
There was just one problem.
"Ow ow ow ow owie ow ow ow . . . "
Using a move that hurt yourself in a friendly game of tennis probably wasn't the smartest move.
Isaac cringed sadly as he listened to Iko's story. God. Nothing but random chance. That's horrible, he said, frowning. I'm guessing he didn't take it too well.

Honestly? At first I thought he was trying to make a point, but I think this all boils down to an icebreaker. Mentally, the wolf gave a chuckle. Or if he was trying to do something, he forgot it halfway through the first game. Its hard to tell! With how different Isaac and Iko were, it was honestly like looking at a completely new personality. After all, neither of them would even think to challenging the tamer to a game of tennis, nor try half the SkullSatamon's tricks.
Perhaps more impressive was Luke's handling of the Red Demon's augmentations! With that enhanced form now returning every shot with power, the tamer found himself in a volley once more. And his previous tricks just wouldn't cut it with that faster movement, the SkullSatamon apparently able to take the whole court in a single stride! "Ehehe! And I'm not going to make the same mistake as before, I'm gonna make the ball go where I want!" Indeed, Luke was having to do a lot more legwork here. And surely, he couldn't outlast an Ultimate in stamina!
Still...
Suddenly, Luke's return changed course. Instead of hitting across the field, the ball flew forth, landing right in front of the SkullSatamon. And with a grin, the skeleton returned the easy shot, hitting the ball from right in front of him!
Which, naturally, made the return shot a lot slower. And Luke was already charging the net! "Wait, what?!"
It was too late, though: for the first time, Luke gave his own smash, soaring right over the Demon's shoulder, bouncing just before the back line. Even with a deficit in speed and power, there was just too much of a gap between them! "Hey, there's already people who can hit the ball harder than me." Luke chuckled, once more taking his position at the back line.
To Isaac's point, Iko nodded. Its tragic, really. Luke's form is perfect: the same shots he's done thousands of times is absolutely trouncing an almost limitless bag of tricks. Honestly, I've seen a lot of tamers be more-or-less protected by their Digimon, but I've never felt I had to shield Luke. Hell, he's saved my butt more times then I care to mention...

Oh, great. So he did have Kuubrain. Wonderful. That said, an icebreaker wasn't too bad of a use for this transformation, especially if by default Luke would end up as his "tamer." Better to have the two on the same page now than end up at odds in a proper combat scenario. Think Luke appreciates the warm-up, at least? Isaac asked. Playing tennis with an Ultimate must've been quite different from playing tennis with another human, even if the human was probably better than SkullSatamon actually was. For starters, the human couldn't pull a bunch of bullcrap out of thin air like this was some sort of video game.
That said, pure skill and game awareness beat gimmicks and trickery nine times out of ten. Every exchanged seemed to be the same. Luke was caught off guard the first time, but narrowly grit his teeth and pulled out a logical move that SkullSatamon never saw coming. They were playing two vastly different games of tennis here, and Luke seemed far better at adjusting on the fly than SkullSatamon and his tendency to horse around. This time, it had been a very solid smash from Luke that did the trick, leaving even the Ultimate impressed at the sheer force he could put out.
"Sounds like I've gotta get even stronger, then! Ow," the SkullSatamon said, shadowflame continuing to cling tightly to him. He bounced the ball up and down a few times, observing how much higher it bounced now that he had activated his Heart of Darkness. He observed how much more quickly his fingers wrapped around the ball. Then he smiled, ready to put together most of everything that he had learned.
As he tossed the ball up, he spun his staff around at least three or four times. With each spin he picked a different angle. High lob. Heavy smash. Down the line. Finally he aimed his staff right back in Luke's corner. If he overcommitted in another direction, he'd be too lost to reach it. If he stayed in place, he'd likely be too shaken up to return properly. As he set up this last swing the Shadow Rend scythe once more formed at the end of his staff, dramatically fading into wisps of shadowflame as SkullSatamon smashed the ball with all of his might.
Would this finally turn the tables? Or would Luke still find a way around this greatest trial yet?
Yeah. He sure as hell seems like a go-getter, Isaac thought. Honestly, Elliot's the same way. Much as I want to keep him safe from the world, sometimes I feel like he's leaps and bounds ahead of me.

Honestly, its hard to say. Though its definitely been a while since he's been able to get a proper game in. But was this a proper game, really? Even after all of SkullSatamon's tricks, their crowd - which was had grown from three to about seven curious spectators - was still giving a laugh or a chuckle every time the Red Demon was given his comeuppance.
None of them could say this was a boring game, though! And SkullSatamon was starting to piece it all together, this game of 'smashball' and all its little tricks. As he curled his hand around the ball, the skeleton couldn't help but give a chuckle. If he could just get one point against him, well - he hadn't thought that far! he just wanted to get the point!
"Hyah!" And the ball rocketed forth, streaking forth onto Luke's side of the court! But at this point, the tamer had proven that he was able to keep up with the ultimate's enhanced shots. The serve would be the only point with power, and there was only a limited range the skeleton would be able to use a shot like that. It meant he was aiming for the outside, and Luke's racquet was already there!
Back at you! What power, though: he felt that shot all the way up through his arm! It was swiftly returned, aimed right for the SkullSatamon's back corner, which gave more than enough room for the skeleton to return the volley. Luke's last trick was well-known to the ultimate now: just how would he manage to get it past him this time? All the skeleton had to do was stay to the side of the ball, and his power wouldn't be mitigated-
Wait, why was the ball coming back so slow? One of Luke's returns just barely managed to hop over the net, and hit the ground once. The demon soon realized that it wouldn't bounce back up to the net, and was forced to return an awkward lob.
A lob, that was spiked right between his legs! Luke's power-shot once more cinched a point against the shadow-flame form, and this time, Luke seemed much more accustomed to the pace! "Heh... maybe you should have started like this from the start. These shots are a bit hard to get to."
Internally, Iko sighed. All that, and Luke's one point away. Sheesh, if he learned how to box instead of volley, he might be outpunching Digimon..."

Some proper game, Isaac joked. But hey, whatever gets us all a workout, right? I'm just watching and I can already feel the burn from all of this. Or was Isaac just watching? He knew that when he was directly in control of a spirit, it left him quite tired afterwards because he was still doing a lot of running, jumping, fighting, and dodging. For a fusion like this, where Isaac and Iko's consciousnesses was intermingled to a point where neither felt in charge, just how would it feel? Were they going to have some majorly sore legs once this thing unraveled?
Whatever the case, SkullSatamon's power boost was starting to run out of steam. Shadowflame was peeling off of him in droves now, and while he could tell he'd have one volley left in him he was confident that this one volley would be all he needed to score a single point. At this point, that was SkullSatamon's goal. Not even the steal a game, but simply to make off with a point. He looked at the setup of the field as he tossed the ball high, making a called shot towards the other end of Luke's side of the court.
No, SkullSatamon. That's baseball.
This time, SkullSatamon decided to start things quite normally. Hit the ball, prepare for the return. Heck, with his lingering speed boost he would even return the ball a second time, marking the longest volley that the two had before any gimmicks ended up showing. What a miracle! No, this time it would be on the third volley that SkullSatamon snapped into action, breaking apart for another "BOOOOONESTOOOOOOORM!"
The swirling twister of shadowflame and charred bone was quite impressive, but more impressive still was the latest shenanigan that SkullSatamon had devised. He whacked the ball, but rather than send it back at Luke he hit it . . . inwards?
There was another whack. SkullSatamon had hit the ball back outwards. Then another one. He was pretty much juggling the ball inside of his own Bonestorm, supplementing the speed and sight elements of his earlier feints with the new element of sound. After a few of these inward whacks he finally drilled the ball down where he had least expected Luke to be. The shadowflame dissipated with that last hefty smash. "Hasta la vista, baby!" SkullSatamon cheered, clearly proud of himself for that one.

Well, a remote challenge, at least! Yes, this was far from a proper game of tennis, but Iko wasn't here to argue semantics. Nor was he really here to do anything, so long as SkullSatamon held the reins!
Still, the wolf was fairly certain that this was just going to last one more volley. Heck, SkullSatamon couldn't keep up his speed from before, seeming to be back to his normal self. If Luke could trick and keep up with the pace before, surely he'd be able to close this one out! Then again, 'The Red Demon' wasn't exactly the most sane or practiced tennis player. Maybe he still had one trick left to get a ball past Luke.
Or maybe he'd already lost the best chance he had: the first two volleys were returned by Luke in easy fashion, expertly drilling down opposite sides of the court. The fact that the ultimate could return the first without a trick was honestly quite impressive, and his second return bordered on hilarity: a massive storm of bones started to juggle the ball around, SkullSatamon deliberately ! He... he knows that's a foul, right?
Luke didn't care, he wasn't going to call him on a rule he couldn't know! Rather, Luke took the best course of action in this situation: he stood near the back-line, dead center of the court, and focused his eyes dead-center. If he looked for the ball coming, he'd be too late. All this time, he relied on his ability to react to motion, his body following through just the same. And though the shot was building up speed, it wasn't like it was as fast as SkullSatamon's serve!
And this was why, when the ball flew to his left side, Luke was already sprinting to catch up. A strong backhand drove the ball right back into that storm, the skeleton knocking around the ball once more! "Aha! You won't be able to keep that up forever!" And the ball flew out, to the opposite side, Luke moving to return it. But the tennis player gave a grin, followed by an interesting return:
He railed it. The ball flew, far and straight into SkullSatamon's court, the ball moving towards the back wall. This shot, as it flew, was clearly going to be 'out'! "Aha! Score one for-"
Out, that was, if it wasn't going into SkullSatamon's blender of a body! Before he could even realize his blunder, the ball struck a shin bone, and ricocheted right down, bouncing on the line! It gave a second lazy bounce on the surface, Luke soon stretching his arms out.
"Aha! Well, them's the breaks, I suppose!" His voice betrayed slight frustration, as the skeleton pieced himself back together, cracking his neck right back into place. And he gave a bow to the crowd, some even applauding at the performance, before he turned to face Luke once more. "Now... what, exactly, am I here for?"
"Well, the two that make you up would know that better." Luke shrugged, the crowd beginning to disperse. "I think-"
"So, that's how it works." Suddenly, the red glow in SkullSatamon's eyes turned yellow, the 'Red Demon' stumbling as a new, yet familiar, voice took the reins. Yup, that was just Iko, talking normally as ever. Which put SkullSatamon in the mental space, now sitting right next to the Impmon.
"... Oh! Maybe if I set the ball on fire, it would have broke apart on his side! He wouldn't have been able to return it at all!"
"Yeah, I still here you, in there! Now, let's see..." Wedging the staff to his side, Iko held out an open palm. He'd dug enough into Isaac's memory to get the motion: this was how to summon the D-Tector in Digimon form. If it was possible, the light would build up in front, and slowly take the shape of the device in his palm.
Of course, no such luck: after several moments, he'd give a sigh. Sorry, Isaac... no dice in this form!

I think he just wants to see the ball go across the court, Isaac thought back, deadpan. If there was another game, I'd be surprised if he didn't start trying to fly between serves.
"Hey, that's a great idea! Glad I thought of it."
Point taken.
Unfortunately, there wouldn't be a next game. Luke had completely crushed the skeleton, and now held victory 3-0 in this best of 5 series. Still, it was hard for any member of the fusion to dispute that it was a well-earned victory. Luke had outsmarted a being with far more tricks than him, and used proper form and technique to outmuscle a rather strong Digimon in sheer strike speed. It was damn impressive. Even if SkullSatamon himself was a bit miffed at not scoring a single point, Isaac was pretty amazed.
Unfortunately, before SkullSatamon could say anything else, his consciousness and Iko's quickly swapped places. Isaac was now left alone with SkullSatamon's rather questionable logic. I mean, you're right. But then the game would end, because there's no ball to hit back, he pointed out.
That just seemed to widen the skeleton's internal grin. Exactly. Then I can never lose, because I'd always be in the lead! he cheered. Yep. This thing had a real awful case of Kuubrain, or at least seemed to enjoy pretending that he did.
Still, it seemed like the Digivice was still locked away. Data stabilization didn't seem to help much in this case. It'd still take a good data scrub from Dr. Mikemon, and something told Isaac that the literal demon skeleton made of shadowflame was a bad choice for that. In a bit of desperation, he quickly muscled his way into being the head of the fusion. "Hey, it's my body. Let me try," he protested, focusing really hard on the code in the center of his being. A bit of light formed in the center of his palm, but instead of crystallizing into the D-Tector it simply turned into a sigil floating above his hand.
Oh, you're not gonna want to stick around that, SkullSatamon warned, Isaac noting this and steering the fusion far, far clear of that sigil.
Still. That was a failure. "Maybe we gotta give Digivolving a try. Agh, it's so much easier when I've got a spirit to focus on," Isaac muttered. "Mind taking back the wheel? You're the guy who's good at Digivolving around here. Maybe you'll be able to pull it off." Unfortunately, the sinking feeling that there was something . . . missing from this fusion couldn't get out of Isaac's head.

Well, darn: it didn't look like it was going to be that easy. As soon as Iko figured that the device simply couldn't be summoned, he simply let Isaac take the hot-seat and give it a try himself, the glowing eyes taking the emerald tone of an Impmon's. Unfortunately, all Isaac could do at the helm was point a dangerous weapon a bit too close to hotel walls to feel comfortable.
Oh, and not that I'm saying anything, but you all playing hot-potato with my form's just a tad uncomfortable! Stay one way or the other, why don't you?
Don't worry, just one more. And the green eyes switched back to yellow, Iko stretching out his arms as he assumed the form. Amidst all this, Luke just gave a sigh. "Really, guys, not the best time for a lightshow."
"C'mon, we're about to make a bigger one. Court's empty, now, so get out your Digivice." The SkullSatamon brought an arm around Luke's back, just as he zipped the racquet back away in its bag. "Alright, worth a shot..."
It didn't take long for the tamer to draw out the Digivice, Luke charging Digisoul into the device as he had done several times before. He expected to exert himself, but after a few seconds, he blinked. "Hm?"
"Something wrong?" Iko looked down at the device. "No, look, its fine. The device is already blinking."
"I mean, it feels light. Like I barely put anything into it at all!" Weird! But, Iko quickly cleared that up: "Its because there's Isaac. Jogress forms take less energy to achieve, per user. Now, same as ever."
Luke shrugged, and thrust the device forward. The Digivice appeared to be working normally, flashing the words 'Ultimate Evolution', the SkullSatamon giving off a bright light! SkullSatamon stood at the center of the court, incredible power flowing through him! He could feel that next form, a vaccine type, an Egyptian silhouette! And with one last push...
... Iko was standing there as an Ankomon, and an Impmon appeared haphazardly in midair!
"... Eh?" Yeah, Iko was kinda lost, there! "The frick happened there?"

Isaac's eyes widened in sheer delight as he felt the gestalt form starting to shift yet again. He could feel an almost holy calm settle over him, a presence far different from the highly viral data that made up the majority of his other forms. His wings, for the first time, untattered. His staff shifted from an aggressive weapon to a more defensive looking implement. He could feel flowing robes wrap around him, almost comforting considering the rough period he had previously faced. Somehow, he could tell he would be free. All he had to do was squeeze his eyes shut and prepare, sending out as much energy as possible to help finish this Digivolution.
Bye, guys!
And then he was floating in the air, quickly catching himself on a wispy purple trail to stop his descent. "The heck?" he said, echoing Iko's statement as he brought himself back to the beach sands. "Okay, yeah. You're Mega at least. But why did it just boot my data out like that?"
Then Isaac remembered what started this situation in the first place and facepalmed. "Great. I don't have an Ultimate anymore," he muttered. "It figures the problem we're trying to solve here is what's getting us deeper into this mess in the first place. Yeah, if Devidramon was uncorrupted, we'd be spared having to keep this song and dance going any longer. But since his data's just as screwed up as my Digivice's, I don't really have a higher level to add to this equation. And that puts us right back at the problem we had with Impmon when we first tried fusing.
Don't you hate when this crap is consistent?"

Indeed, just what the heck happened? Iko was right at the edge of a new form, about to break through, and yet here he was standing coated in black flame! Realizing that he looked positively frightening in the middle of the city, the wolf quickly rescinded those flames, switching back to his normal champion state.
"Welcome back, I guess? How's it feel?"
"Hm..." Iko flexed his hand. "Bit winded, but unlike becoming an Ultimate already. I'll manage. At any rate." Yes, Isaac's frustration was quite sensible at this point: quickly, he went from confusion to a rather reasonable theory: the simple fact was that the Impmon didn't have a valid ultimate state. If it took two champions to make an Ultimate, then surely it took two Ultimates to make a mega. On paper, it was obvious, but Iko gave a shrug. "Now we know, I guess. We're a Digimon and a Spirit already, so we're already kind of figuring out the rules as we go along... and honestly, I don't know if Devidramon or Orochimon would work anyway. It would probably need to be in NeoDevimon's line."
"So now you're saying you click better with that one?" Iko sighed. "Still, given the Mikemon's options, if collecting the spirits was going to fix Isaac's form anyway, was there a point to this?"
"Thankfully, yes!" Iko chuckled, and pointed at Luke's digivice. Confused, the athlete took a glance at the screen. "... Anubismon?"
"Its the form I saw at the end of the light. And better yet, its vaccine, meaning Mikemon's data wash will work on that form." Right, positive news! He gave a smile to the Impmon: "Eh, might be crap, but at least we know the end goal: just one more spirit to find!"

"Yeah. Knowing's at least progress," Isaac said. He was no Digimon scholar, but as far as he knew spirits were pretty much stable. If they were the remnants of Digimon long since past, they kind of had to be. Otherwise, what might happen? Would they revert to an egg, like a dead Digimon was "supposed" to? Or would they end up just unraveling and scattering across the Digital World? Neither possibility sounded very pleasant for the human currently stuck in the form of one of those spirits! While it seemed like their data could be kept stable in such fashion if used as a fusion, pushing the spirit to further develop seemed like a bridge just too far. Maybe it wasn't the case that spirits shouldn't Digivolve, but instead flat-out couldn't? Agh, this was hurting Isaac's head.
Still, Iko raised a good point. "You're right. We're playing with some unstable code already," Isaac added. "Shouldn't make it even worse for us by crossing the streams. I don't want to end up some giant pile of data by the end of this." It seemed like Iko had been able to successfully expel him from their first mistake, at least, so maybe Iko wouldn't be at risk of getting Akira'd along with Isaac.
"Might not be a case of us clicking better so much as keeping it consistent. Although hell, at least Iko could reach NeoDevimon. Thanks for that, by the way," he added, turning to Luke now. "And even if we needed spirits anyway, that would've needed me to find literally all of them. I don't even want know how long that might've taken. Here, for all we know we might only need to grab one more. This could be a huge turning point." There were at least two more spirits, corresponding to Devidramon and Samudramon. And who knew if there was a step beyond?
Instead, they had a perfect specimen for Dr. Mikemon's treatments. "If it'll just take one more spirit to end this, then I'll put all my focus on looking for it, Isaac decided. "You guys should take it nice and easy after all of this. You already busted your butts enough to get me out of this funk. I can handle things from here, I'm sure."

Well, that more-or-less settled it! Isaac had his next destination in mind, and it really looked like there was a light at the end of the tunnel for Isaac's predicament. All things considered, from the time at the dark temple to today, all three of them had covered quite a bit of ground.
"Heh, don't worry about it, Isaac. NeoDevimon's a bit rough, but perhaps not as distant as you think he is." That said, it didn't mean that the demon was a giant social bug - it just meant that the wolf and the NeoDevimon clicked on at least some level, enough that they didn't want immediately at each-other's throats.
And it seemed that Isaac was about to be on his way! "Well, we'll try and stay around Whitewater, at least around a certain day... Wednesdays, I guess?" They really didn't have a solid way to contact each-other at this point, especially with Isaac being short a device, but at least with this there would be some way to touch base! Actually, Iko gave the imp a look, and a sigh. "Before you go, actually... just one more thing. This way... and what's your favorite color?"
Hopefully, Isaac would have gone along with this much. This time, they made their way to Whitewater's market district, Iko taking a quick look through a few corner shops before finding something quite common in this city:
"A red... armband?"
"Right, because I'd waste our time with fashion." Iko turned to face Isaac, turning the band inside-out. There, the wolf would point out several compartments, similar to the slits in a wallet: "You don't see it often on a tamer's Digimon or spirits, but for most of us without pockets, its how we carry bits around. You'll already find your share from that dark temple mission in there."
Oh, so that's what Iko was taking care of! "Like I was going to let you back out there without a single thing to work with... here." Half folding the band, he offered it to the Impmon. "It'll 'exist' on whatever form you put it on as, so don't worry about changing forms or Digivolving while you have it on."

"Here's hoping you're right," Isaac said, nose wrinkling a little. "The guy can be really hard to deal with when he's pretty much living in your brain. But hey. I'm sure he just needs a bit of a chance to adjust up in here. Can't say it's fun living in someone else's head, as my little experiment in letting him take the reigns for a bit showed.
If I can ask, you got any tips on how to make him feel more comfy? Figure with you two having the heart-to-heart back there, it'd be handy to ask."
It sounded like the group had a solid plan now. Wednesdays were meeting day. "I'll make sure to swing around each Wednesday to give status updates," Isaac said. "Although that's each Digi-Wednesday, right? Figure I should check, what with the whole seven days difference here." It seemed like this would basically be a daily checkup on Luke and Iko's, end. Were they still going through that much effort for Isaac? He just knew that his friends back home were going to be holding down the fort for him, too. And Elliot . . . well, he had to be doing well, right? Surely at some point Isaac would swing over to check on him. He couldn't wait to be proud of the results.
Even if he was crushed under the weight of this transformation, Isaac knew how lucky he was.
Then came the second part of this plan. Money! "Well, it beats living off the land," Isaac said as he tightened the armband around his Impmon form. No offense to NeoDevimon, but Isaac really didn't want to take him around to a farmer's market. "And hey. Seems like some part of the mission will pay off, at l-"
Isaac unfolded the armband, noticing the very small amount he had in his hand. "Figured those pills'd run me up a fortune," he said, grumbling in slight disappointment. "Well, thanks a ton for the thoughtfulness. It's gonna beat slipping money up my gloves for sure."
He frowned slightly, a little bit disappointed. "Guess this is goodbye, huh," he said, not quite sure he was ready to leave the first friend he had been able to make contact with since in the incident.
