This MPC is based on the Jury Duty prompt.
I'll say as a disclaimer that I was rather drunk by the end of this and also I got a lot of errors that prevented me from editing this properly, and I forgot what I was going to write so, sorry about this ^^;
Colin James supposed that a day like this would have to pass. What with him and his twin digimon partners becoming more notable around the world, the chance of them being more involved in the day-to-day dealings of things would be more evident.
But, he honestly didn't espect this - that one of his partners would be selected to act as defense counsel for another digimon that he knew nothing about. But, alas, for some reason, here it was.
Presiding over the court was Judge IceDevimon, complete with his ultimate Christopher Walken splendour. Acting on the defense, was Bellamy, on behalf of a Dracmon named Deuce. And on the side of the prosecution was an indignant Spadamon that happened to be the partner of Colin's sister Sophie. Overall, this would probably be a court case to remember.
"Okay now..." judge IceDevimon began. "In this age of ridiculous stereotypes in which I am a part of... I hope that this case is dealt with in a swift and impartial way. So... can I have an opening statement, from the prosecution?"
"Your honour..." Lantis the Spadamon said, speaking firmly but not overly dramatically. "This is clearly a case in which an evil virus attribute digimon decided to, as usual, lie and cheat to get their own way in the world, exploiting these unnamed NPC's for their data. He has, as usual, killed a Leomon... namely me!"
"Aha, I object!" Bellamy quickly snapped, tugging at the lapels of his jacket. "Surely the label... 'evil virus attribute' should not be appropriate language for this court, yes?"
"Indeed, that is agreed" Judge IceDevimon declared. "May that be struck from the record. Do continue, Mr. Impmon"
"Well of course mi learned lord!" Bellamy said, loudly, acting like a lawyer he had seen on TV. "On the other hand... wherever that hand may be, this digimon here should be acquitted of all charges! For one thing, he is a bumbling idiot that should double think everything he does if he doesn't want to repeat such events as him jumping into the Shibuya river and nearly drowning in the muck while being devoured by eels..."
"Yeesh, do ya have to bring that up?" Deuce asked, shuddering.
"Indeed I do, young knave!" Bellamy continued, acting surprisingly confident for one who was wearing a lawyer's robe with no pants. Although, given Colin's experience, most rookie level digimon seemed to be fairly proud of their lack of lower bodywear.
"The reason why, well, it's simply because, well, surely the sins of a digimon of a later incarnation should not be responsible for the sins of an earlier? I mean, even you, my learned lord, should you be held responsible for whatever sins the digimon that held your data before you had committed?"
"Hmm... an interesting argument... particularly because I'm quite sure my earlier digimon forms were some variation of Numemon, but, that should not be an impediment to justice in this trial" IceDevimon said.
"Your honour I object!" Lantis shouted to the courtroom. "On the count of relevance! How is this conversation relevant to the case at hand?"
"Indeed, your response, Bellamy?" IceDevimon asked the defense.
"Your honour may I approach the bench?" Bellamy asked.
"Have you washed your fur?" IceDevimon asked in response.
"Er... not today, your honour..." Bellamy said, hesitantly.
"Then no" IceDevimon insisted. Bellamy tugged at his scarf then spoke his piece.
"Your honour, this is the case of the sins of a previous incarnation of a digimon being rolled forward to the reconfigured form of that digimon present in this time". Bellamy said, trying to sound as intelligent as he could. "I mean, ordinarily this would be an horrific case of murder, but, the digimon that was murdered is now present alive and well. The digimon that committed the murder can no longer attain the form in which he committed the crime. Indeed, this is no longer a case of murder, but, a case of slight inconvenience due to the nature of this digital world in which we reside".
There was much uproar from the gallery. In which IceDevimon banged his gavel on the bench.
"Order!" he snapped. "The court will now disperse for a 30 minute recess!"
There was then a small intermission in which Bellamy and Lantis ran out into the court playground to play schoolyard games in their lawyer robes for the recess before the court bells rang to indicate the end of the recess.
"So then" Judge IceDevimon said as the court reconvened. "What is the next part of your defense?" he asked of Bellamy.
"Simply this, your grace" Bellamy said, turning to the doors of the court. "I call upon Owen the Gaomon as my next witness".
There was mutterings in the courtroom as Owen the Gaomon strode into the room. He made his way into the witness box, in which he stood next to his seat.
"Hello, Owen" Judge IceDevimon said, gently. "Is everything alright?"
"Well, uh, I'm sorry, but, I recently had trouble here in court over a late night conversation I had with other dogs" Owen said, hesitantly.
"I see" Icedevimon said, nodding, still in his best Christopher Walken impression. "In that case please, simply answer the questions put to you the best you can".
"Yes, my love" said Owen, hesitantly. "Er... I mean... My lord... er... milud?"
"We'll just assume you said 'milud' for the sake of your boyfriend, eh?" IceDevimon said, grinning somewhat.
"Er, right" Owen said, turning to the courtroom. "I will testify now that I am a soldier digimon whose consciousness has been present on this world for many years, and I remember being involved in many conflicts in which I have had to end the life of an enemy digimon. And, well, this time around, I haven't really killed anyone, well, other than that one time in self defense...".
