MPC#43: Real Housewives of Terminus City
# of MPCs Taken This Month: 1
You know what they say about the most quiest kid in class. When they get angry and vocal, you know you've messed up big time...
And that was usually exactly who Cion was. Rarely did she lose her composure, much less affront someone. The new member of P.R.O.F.I.T considered herself to be sophisticated and hence above such infantile reactions. After all, it was not only her own reputation she was responsible for, but also the one of the organization she was a part of. While having been like this before, she now presented herself more than ever as a fine lady. Cordial, courteous and courageous, Cion was confident that any challenge she would encounter was not beyond her competence and confidence. Today, she would understand that she had been truly naive to think that.
It all started harmless and serene. After she and Owen had made up with their pasts and each other, finding peace and acceptance in who they were in this life, they knew things could not continue like they had before. After all, if they were going to be a small family alongside nephew Logan and brother-in-law Hikaru, they needed a bigger home to live in. Otherwise, how could she be a proper role model and aunt for them and brother Owen if they still lived in 75 m²? Completely unacceptable, even if the apartment had been a fine and cost-efficient place to live in.
Which was why she was all the more surprised and glad to have found their new house in a decent neighborhood of Terminus. Standing in front of its small yard on her own, she beheld the family home in which she and the three others could easily fit inside. And with a kitchen, two toilets and some basic furniture already at their disposal, there was not even much work behind it to make it truly their own home. And all of that for the small prize of 20.000 bits and a small, monthly rent that covered all secondary expenses.
It seemed too good to be true, but far was it from her to let an opportunity pass her by. Besides, the quicker the four of them would manage to move in together, the easier they could adapt to eventual problems that would arise. Nothing, whatever the previous owner was hiding, was beyond fixing. For the sake of her family, she kept that confidence, even if at times she was truly worried deep inside about the possibility that there was something actually wrong with the house. Not hidden bodies or anything like that, but technical defects.
Sighing, the Arnamon realized that she was once again anticipating the worst. She was really working on becoming more relaxed, but in light of recent events she found it difficult to be that. She needed to adapt to the new type of relationship she had with her former love, and she still had to get used working as a pseudo-mercenary who often had to face dangerous missions. The only untainted light that gave her comfort in all of this was Logan, whom she liked providing for.
Yet she would not accept Owen and Hikaru not being role models to him. Despite how cheap the house was, all three of them had to pursue work and sustain the family. Of course they would do so at different times as to always have Logan taken cared for, but teaching the young digimon the value of dedicated work and cooperation was a lesson of utmost importance in the Arnamon's eyes. He was a polite and spirited digimon, that was out of the question. But after all the work they had put into him already, it would only be foolish to suddenly stop now.
Chuckling, Cion realized yet again that her thoughts simply would not cease over-complicating stuff. It was not like they had not arranged everything already, but she still felt like it was necessary to go through all of this over and over again. Even at this sunny, mild Autumn day, simply embracing and enjoying whatever would come was impossible for her. Everything needed to be just right, or else she was going to be disappointed in herself. This was why she had returned to the house before she and her family would move in tomorrow. She simply had to check everything just in case something was not as it was supposed to be.
Just as she was about to enter her new home, unbearably loud music started to resound in their street. It startled Cion and made her nervously look around for its source. Quickly, she realized it came from within the house directly opposite of hers. While she liked synth metal, she as every other sane digimon would do perceived it as nothing but noise disturbance. Regardless, she would not be disturbed by it, especially when she was finally inside her house. If only she had known how wrong she was.
Inside, the music was no longer as overbearingly loud as before, but the vibrations it caused quickly enraged the Arnamon. How was she supposed to assure the integrity of their home if the music's bass constantly surged through everything, including her? It only took a couple of minutes before her nerves were on edge, her blood boiling like never before. Whoever was responsible for the booming music would certainly not ruin her new life, even if it meant having to stand her ground and face that person.
On her way to her neighbors, hastily crossing the wide street, Cion wondered if they were the reason why her family had been able to purchase the house for such a low price. It was beyond her how Terminus' guards simply allowed the impudent people that lived inside the house whence the music came to get away with such effrontery, but they certainly would not on her watch. At first utilizing the bell, she immediately understood that it was impossible for anyone to even hear it. Left with no other choice, she banged against their neighbor's door with as much force as she could muster in her Rookie form. Even then, as the music simmered down ever so slightly, she still had to wait a whole minute before someone finally greeted her.
Then the door opened with much more force than expected, startling Cion a bit. In front of her, leaning against the door's frame and chewing bubble gum with a bored expression, was a BlackGatomon. "Yeah?" It spat out, clearly bothered by the Arnamon's presence. Clearing her throat, Cion attempted to be as polite and forthcoming as possible, no yet accepting the futility of this try. "Good day, ma'am. I don't want to be impolite, but I'd ask you to tone down the music. It's not only a disturbance to me, but the entire neighborhood, so..."
"Oh, you must be the new gawk who bought the house!" The BlackGatomon shouted at her with a wide grin on her face. "E-excuse me?" The Arnamon asked in disbelief to the fact the she had just interrupted and midly insulted her. But her neighbor did not seem to care, since she looked over her shoulder and called for the others who lived with her. "G, Impy, get ya tushies over here! We got a new neighbor again!" She yelled, causing a Gazimon and an Impmon to immediately arrive, both carrying delighted yet elfish grins on their lips.
Nobody of them even thought about turning down the music for this conversation, much less shaking their hands with Cion as a sign of peace. Instead, they all were just eyeballing her, apparently having found new prey to toy with. The poor Arnamon did not even know where to start with these three, but she already expected to have a bad time. "Naw, and she's such a sweetie, ain't she?" The Impmon asked the others, teasingly booping her nose as if she was a human's lap dog.
The Gazimon played along with the impish attempts of his best pal, ruffling the fur between her ears a little. "She is. Almost makes me feel bad for annoying her. Ya know... almost." He mocked her without any shame. Her cheeks turning red, Cion could not believe what she was currently witnessing, but it infuriated her regardless. Now she understood why her new home had been so cheap; after all these three digimons were unbearable jerks. But, since she was a sophisticated lady, she would remain calm and attempt to talk with these three like a proper adult. No one was blind to reason, right?
"Okay, listen. We clearly got up on the wrong foot here. So, I'd say we start again. My name's..." "Bored!" She was interrupted by the BlackGatomon, yawning unduly as to make clear none of them cared about what she had to say. Cion's eyes narrowed and her fingers were splayed as if she was a wild bear about to tear its prey into pieces. Unfortunately, this did not sway the boors in any way, except that they were amused greatly by it. "Daw look at her! Didn't think she got teeth, literally speaking." Impmon continued to slight her, treating her like a baby.
Groaning quietly, Cion took in a deep breath and calmed down again. All she wanted was neighborly courtesy and harmony, which was not too much to ask for and part of the law anyway. Raising her finger, she was just about to give them a stern warning when she suddenly felt something small and wet hit her forehead, startling her. A ball of paper engulfed in spit fell to the ground, and the perpetrator who had it launched it at her through a straw was none other than the Gazimon. Staring at the three of them, overwhelmed by pure rage, they could only gloat. "Oh, look how hot her head is. And what are ya gonna do about it, cutie? Let the guards come again?"
The very next day, which was once again a wonderful Autumn noon, Cion was happily lifting boxes with her 'Translucent Cage' technique inside her new home. Naturally, she was not alone, as Owen, Hikaru and even little Logan contributed to their new life through work. There was not have a lot of stuff they had brought along, but it was enough to at the very least make their house feel like home.
Just as they were about to finish with their work, BlackGatomon, Gazimon and Impmon walked down the street to return to their own home. When they spotted dearest Cion, they immediately rushed towards her and bowed ever so slightly to her and the rest of her family. "Welcome, new neighbors!" They greeted all of them with a wide grin, delighting both Cion and the others. They were not in the mood for long banter and simply wanted to get away fast though, acting surprisingly nervous. This of course bewildered everyone but Cion, who started to think about something with a wide grin.
"Hey, Owen? You remember where we put... the duct tape?" She asked the Gaomon. This question appeared to immediately trigger something inside the trio she had a quarrel with just yesterday. As if struck by PTSD, their eyes turned wide and they hastily retreated to their deadly silent home. Without leaving a trace, they disappeared from sight, which of course left great confusion in Owen, Hikaru and Logan. Quietly turning to Cion, all she could was shrugging with a delighted grin. "Don't worry. They only bark a little, but don't bite."
