Studious Reflection [Kan, Duffer]

It was the late afternoon after class as Toki sat down at one of the less busy spots of the park to do his reading. It's been two days since he's come back from the Digital World. He wanted to return soon, but he needed to get things settled here in the Human World. He still had responsibilities to his university courses. He learned that time passed in the worlds different, so he had the idea to use that to his advantage to get his work done, but for now he just needed to get his bearings on the Human World again. Occasionally he would become distracted from his work, looking at one of the pockets of his backpack where he kept the D-Scanner. He still hadn't figured out how Spirit Evolution worked exactly and that started to worry him. How could he pass any totem's test if he can't even get the basics of it down? Several times before he had tried to activate it, but nothing was really coming from it. Maybe the spirit really did make a mistake when it chose him. He sighed, going back to his reading. He was studying English in the event an English-speaking foreigner wanted to learn from the dojo. Why was this language so complicated? Though not everything was stressful. His short time in the Digital World gave him a slight confidence boost. Today he answered the professor's questions confidently and got a few surprised looks from people. It was nice for a change. He continued his reading and note taking. As he read, he unwrapped a simple packaged rice ball with salmon at the center. It was his favorite snack since it was filling and easy to multitask with. When he was done with his current chapter, he simply spent his time writing haiku on spare pages. Mystifying Land Wondrous Spirit Calls to Youth A Grand Renewal

Kotemon frowned as they and Duffer entered the park. The boy had tricked kotemon, something the digimon would never forgive itself for letting happen, into returning to the human world. The day was rather nice, fortunately, and as the two walked, Kotemon let out a deep sigh. During the years it had forgotten about how nice the human world could be, and for a few seconds it relaxed. But soon thoughts would come back, Duffer would stick out like a sore thumb in his wheel chair. He was slowly getting stronger, didn't need Kotemon to push him anymore, but never the less the Digimon wanted to return back to its home turf and soon. These thoughts would be interrupted by Duffer's Digivice beeping. He took it out and stared at it, trying to remember what exactly it meant.
"Another digivice is close by." Kotemon reminded him. "Huh? Oh, oh! I knew that." He lied, looking away from his partner.
The boy had also felt uncomfortable. 2 years, he felt redundant thinking it over and over again but that was all he could think of. 2 years of nothing but wasting away in some bed. His baseball career was dead in the water now, Kotemon refused to let him see his family and would quickly change the subject when he asked. The human world changed quite a bit from what Duffer read in the comics, Zombies weren't the in thing anymore, it was all about psychological and existential dread now, not to mention the political climate that had formed in America and was not-so-subtly present in his comics and the movies he watched. Did something happen that Kotemon didn't tell him? Did Kotemon himself even know about it? The boy shook his head and they passed Toki, Kotemon wearing no disguise other than an overly long pair of jeans to hide it's monster feet.

It was another business day that's for sure, the company that had inquired to him to repair some high end items ended up just sending him home only after two or three hours of him actually being there. Something about having their own shrink that was better than he was after all.
It was frustrating that's for sure but what could you do? Get mad at the people that were paying your bills or did you want to get mad at the fact that they simply figured you didn't know what you were doing based off of some stupid paper.
So yes there was that undertone of grumpiness, which his spirits could sense. The only one out of the bunch however to address this was Silvermon-X. But ever since his 'purification' he had been the only vocal spirit. The others seeming to regard him in such a way that one would regard an outsider. They were afraid and that much was obvious. But rather than address the problem at hand, Silvermon instead brought something else to his attention. The voice was strange, almost angelic but had that undertone of respect you'd get from older digimon.
"There is something you should know Kan; I can sense that there is another digimon nearby. It may be a digimon like that hookmon from the school. We should intervene if that is the case."
Kan grumbled a little bit and looked about the area that he had ended up in. With the briefcase in one hand and his digivice in the other the man squinted to see if he could pick out anything.
"Don't really see anyone."
"Keep trying please."
Kan sighed softly and continued about the park frowning as he could tell there weren't that many people in the park. Sure there were a few kids, that wasn't a surprise. But what were you supposed to do about this if one of them just turned out to be a holosuit? If they were being peaceful that would be an issue. He'd lean up against a tree before looking back down at his device.
"A right old mess..."

Toki looked up from his book and closed it immediately upon seeing Kotemon and Duffer. "Hey..." he said, then realized that verbally pointing out the digimon in the human world might not be the best idea. He tried to think of a way to talk to them. He looked around and realized there really wasn't anyone else at the moment. Toki reached for his backpack and unzipped the pocket with the D-Scanner inside. "E-excuse me...you two. Do you have a device like this?" he showed the scanner to Kotemon and Duffer. Duffer looked like a foreigner, but that didn't bother Toki at all. Kotemon on the other hand, looked clearly out of place, especially with the oversized jeans. "Sorry...do you speak Japanese?" he asked them. "I can speak...a little English. If you need me to." he said in English. His accent wasn't bad, either.
Eventually he noticed the tall man next to the tree and froze for a moment. Something about the situation made him feel a little uneasy. How many people around Shibuya actually knew about the Digital World and he was just completely oblivious to it for so long? Was it really restricted to just Shibuya? There were a lot of questions going through his mind right now, but at the moment he just tried to focus on the person in front of him. "My name is Toki Akiyama. I've just been trying to meet people who have been to...that place...as well." he said, trying his hardest to not directly mention it, though he is probably just coming off as overly cautious.
He honestly felt a little guilty right now just suddenly questioning this wheelchair-bound kid. He put his scanner in his pocket and sighed heavily.

Duffer turned to look at Toki, digivice still out and present. "Hey." He said, looking at him. The boy took out his device and Duffer smiled, nodding. "Yep. You're in the club too then?" he asked. "I do speak a little. How's it going? My name's Duffer." He offered a hand. "This is Cody, my little brother." He was lying, obviously, but you know, can't show off digimon in public without risking a whole government squad coming down on you. "Kote." Kotemon interjected, bowing. "Yes, we should be going back to that place soon, right Duffer?" "Eh, a bit later. I want to know more about our new friend." "That wasn't a request, it was a command..." Kotemon mumbled under its breath. "So, you have any of your friends here?" He winked, clearly talking about digimon.
Duffer turned to look at what Toki looked at. All he could see from his angle was a tree though. He shrugged and returned to the conversation. "Anything happening with you? Besides the obvious, I mean."

Kan found himself frowning as the definitively older one spoke to the wheelchair bound individual. He even noted the device in the older of the two's hand; there was no way in hell that wasn't a digivice. Even if he couldn't see all of it he certainly had seen enough of them to recognize one at a glance.
The problem now was the fact it would be incredibly awkward to come forward about all this. To new people once again; every time he had it didn't go well or there was just too much tension to do anything properly. Toki seemed to note him and even looked uncomfortable about it; the shopkeep looked down at his device again and stepped around the tree fully in view of the three individuals. Though the last of which he seemed a bit more surprised about than he should of been.
He'd fold his arms over one another and tut softly; what was a digimon doing out and about without a holosuit on? If the creature was found there would be no ends of problems. For now all he could do was show off the fact that he had a digivice and rest against this tree. His casing was certainly different than the one that he had seen just a few moments earlier. But then again he hadn't found someone with a black base and grey buttons before either...
He wasn't about to just invite himself into the conversation or approach these two immediately. That would be beyond uncomfortable after all. So he simply waited.
"Patience is key. They'll talk."
I know.

Toki smiled as the two of them introduced themselves "It's good to meet you both. And...I guess, yes...I'm part of the club as well. Though I don't have any friends with me. Physically anyway..." he said with a slight chuckle. He noted how uncomfortable Kotemon was with Duffer's enthusiasm to talk to him. "I can understand if you want to get back sooner rather than later...but having friends in a situation like this is important. And Duffer is...well, in his condition he might need a lot of rest here, or at the very least if you must return, stay somewhere relatively safe over there." he said, trying to reason with both sides of their situation. He looked back at Duffer "Are you okay, by the way..? Did something happen? If you would not like to talk about it, I'm sorry for bringing it up."
Whether or not Duffer decided to explain his situation, Toki would afterwards stand up and look at the man next to the tree and waved him over. He knew whoever this was knew about the Digital World. He had caught a glimpse of the digivice he had and wanted to give him an opportunity to approach them. Toki was proud of himself for this level of social interaction. Before he wouldn't have even hoped that he would be the one gathering people together, but his goal of understanding more about himself and the Digital World drove him to be more open with people, even if it was still a work in progress.

"Oh, just was in a coma for a little bit, should be able to be back on my legs in a few more days... Digital Medicine is like, weirdly advanced, kinda worrying about what kinda side-effects there might have been though." "Trust me, I made sure there weren't any really bad side-effects." Kotemon reassured, smiling(?) at its companion. "I wasn't gonna spend two years waiting just to lose you because some idiot doctor thought heart palpitations were the lesser of two evils." "That's reassuring...?" Duffer lied before turning back to Toki. "And I'd love to stay here, we should go back to that nice foreign exchange family, Kotemon. I'm sure they'd be happy to see me again." "Oh trust me, he's safer there than here. My boy needs to go back." Kotemon ignored Duffer's statement. "There was an incident at the mall two years ago, he got a concussion, and I would thank you NEVER to speak about it again." Kotemon glared at the new boy.

Kan was more surprised that he was waved over, these kids were certainly trusting? Or perhaps they were simply friendly to those that knew of the digital world itself? The pool of individuals that came and went to that place were surprisingly lower than what you'd expect. He'd approach after a few moments, allowing for the one wheel chair bound individual to finish what they were saying.
The exchange was more or less pleasant; he forgot often more than not that youth now days were a little more polite than the ones he had to deal with after bringing his shop up from the ground. He'd of course introduce himself, slipping his device into his pocket for the time being. No need to show off the cracked screen.. or the wear and tear of how long he had been at it.
"Afternoon you two. My name's kan."
A simple introduction would do; he didn't need to give much more information than that immediately. He could share that he was a spirit user right from the get go, but what was the point of that? It was fairly obvious seeing how he didn't have a partner around.

Toki frowned at Kotemon's glare, less intimidated and more just upset that he brought up something clearly so painful "I won't speak of it again, you have my word. Just help him have a swift recovery." he bowed his head politely. He was more concerned at this strange, almost hostile dynamic the two seemed to have with each other with one disregarding or disagreeing with the suggestions of the other. This didn't really seem like a healthy partnership to him. Should he say something? "Whatever you two end up doing...I hope it's something the two of you can agree on." was all he would say on the matter.
When Kan approached them and introduced himself, he bowed his head "It's nice to meet you, Kan. My name is Toki Akiyama. I...notice that you don't have any friends around you as well. Are you the same as me? If so...I'd like to talk." he said, tone serious. If Kan was indeed a fellow Spirit User, then this could be his chance to learn how it all worked. He knew about the totems and that he would have to find them when the time came, but as it stood he still didn't even know how to control it.

"Three." Duffer said, annoyed. "At least say two and a half, man." Kotemon snickered at that. "Hello, I'm Kote and this is Duffer. We were just on our way." The digimon grabbed the back of Duffer's wheelchair and began pushing but Duffer stopped that. "Sorry about that, my brother doesn't like me talking with new people since my accident." He glared at Kotemon, who returned the favor. "So you guys have any hobbies, is there any good movies right now?" He tried to remain in the conversation best he could while Kotemon sat there and glared angrily at them.
The man with the digivice worried Duffer, he couldn't quite put his finger on why though but between his tall, muscular physique, his not-quite moustache, and his beady, obscured eyes, the only thing missing were the words "Love" and "Hate" tattooed across his knuckles to make him appear as threatening as possible. He did speak english though, that seemed like a plus.

Kan scratched the back of his head, eyeing Duffer and his Kotemon. The latter of the two didn't seem too terribly pleased with the idea of being here. He couldn't blame him terribly after all. It would be difficult for them to hide after all. He'd dip his head in a nod when asked about his "friends". He didn't really consider his spirits friends; no it was something more than that.
"A pleasure I'm sure, and more than likely of course."
Silvermon's voice piped up after a few moments, the digital spirit had been a little more vocal as of late after all.
"Currently One of four with him if that's what you mean."
Kan would snort softly and shake his head slowly when asked about hobbies or movies. He didn't really have any hobbies; he had his job among just relaxing in his home. Maybe going places with a few people or the ilk.
"No fret. To my knowledge no, I don't go to the movies all too much. A little busy running my shop."
The last movie that he had seen was quite some time ago after all. What could he really say past that after all?

"They're just looking after you, I'm sure..." Toki said to Duffer in regards to Kotemon's worries. Still, he felt like their communication could use some work, but he'd be one to talk in that sense..."I wish I knew of good movies to see right now, but I'm not very...well...educated on a lot of recent culture...I'm trying to learn though to make up for lost time." he said with a smile.
He looked over at Kan and flinched slightly when he heard the voice. He hadn't heard his spirit speak to him since their first meeting. "I...I see. Four..." he felt completely outclassed by Kan and he wasn't sure how he felt about that. Thankfully it was pretty late into the afternoon, so not many people were passing by to hear the conversation "Out of all of you I'm...the newest. I hope it's not too much to ask but I need all the help I can get to understand it all. That and...I've been told you can never have too many friends once you choose this path..." it was clear the poor guy was struggling and wasn't used to social interaction, but he was doing his best.

Duffer blinked at the Spirit talking. Could they always do that? Was that something new? Kotemon seemed unphased by this though. The boy's statement about the digital world and needing more information, did brighten up the small digimon though.
"Well well, you have happened upon the proper friend." Kotemon smiled... I think, no mouth made it hard to tell. "I am an expert on all matters digital, animal, or mineral." The tone shifted significantly. "Me and my boy are currently running through the history of the digital world at the moment, and all the locations they entail. If you want, you could accompany us on our next stop! The village of beginnings is wonderful this time of year, and we might be able to see the miracle of hatching occur." "Isn't that the place with all the eggs and toys and weird blob things?" Duffer asked, his memory jogged slightly. "Exactly the one! The story of it's founding is a key part of the Digital World's history, and Cherrymon is a very nice digimon who I'm sure would love some visitors who could actually hold conversation."

Kan scratched his head, frowning ever so slightly when Toki seemed put off by the fact that the spirit had indicated that there were a total of four spirits with him. He'd shrug after giving it a little thought; there was always a bigger fish. It's just how the world worked and he was by no means the biggest one. Silvermon however seemed to realize their error and attempted to consul the Toki.
"Time simply was an ally of Kan's; being new just means you haven't experienced as much. It will come."
Kan shrugged at the mention of 'friends' he didn't really have too many of those. He was always busy and the like so.. Why would he have that many when his life was just one fix it to the next.
"It's not a problem. I've done something similar when I had much less experience."
"Not very successfully but they were certainly more prepared once they went... there.
With the tone shift kan raised his brow and the spirit let out a deep rolling chuckle. Kan had been to the village before a very long time ago. There wasn't much reason for him to actually go there and that simply was okay after all.
"It's easily one of the most important parts of the digital realm, but for something so important I'm surprised at how many times it's been attacked."
The spirit on the other hand bristled at the mention of the attacks; an aggravated sound coming from the device seeing as it couldn't really look angry with lack of.. well everything!
"Aye, but it's always rebuilt. I would like to come along if at all possible."
