Taking the first steps into the Digital World [Finished]

John carefully considered whether or not he should indulge the new acquaintances with what his goals in the Digital World currently were. They seemed innocent enough, so he wasn't sure if there even was any harm in telling the group. The human glanced at his partner, who nodded as though reading his thoughts.
"Well, we're here for a bit of both," John answered truthfully. "We're on an assignment to travel all over the Digital World for some investigative work. Though truthfully, this is more of a pleasure trip for us."
Casimeir chimed into the conversation. "Any reason to go to the Digital World is a good reason. We barely see it anymore, so we want to fix that."
John noted to himself how nervous Yukiko was behaving. He didn't want to be rude and comment on it outright. At the same time, John was an empathetic sort of person. "There's no need to worry, Yukiko." His voice was sincere. "It can seem scary at first, but the Digital World has a lot of friendly Digimon in it. And as long as you have your partner at your side and some friends, you'll be fine. Especially if you stick around Terminus City."
Casimeir's smile widened. "Hey, why don't we join you guys for a while? John and I have been looking to make new friends, so this is a perfect opportunity!"

Yukiko could not bear to look. The very notion of more social interaction worried her. Of course, this just meant that Mizu would have to jump in.
Oh, of course! Three guides is better than just one! Don't be too hard on Yukiko, though! She just has problems talking to people, it's nothing personal! Give her a few minutes of acclimatization and she'll talk!~!"
"Ah yes, indeed, my friend Yukiko is really quite shy, but very sweet once you know her. I would like more guides, too. This is my very first contact with this Digital miracle at all! I am so excited to see it with my own two eyes!" *Cough*"Four eyes.", Mizu said under her breath. Ayumi promptly glared at the Betamon before sitting down next to Yukiko. Mizu chuckled, and sat down by Yukiko's legs.

Sorry for the delaaaaaay Both John and Casimeir seemed to be pretty interesting individuals, even though the prize definitely went to Yukiko and Ayumi regarding that small area. The two were just... another thing.
It was a bit late for her to chime into a decision that was already made, but at least she made sure to express she was okay with him joining. "I mean, sure. The more, the merrier, am I right?"
Now it was just a matter of the Trailmon leaving them in Terminus so they could begin exploring. Until then, though... the brunette took a fair bit of curiosity towards their new acquaintances; she had dealt with newbies towards the Digital World matter but somebody experienced was a rare treat. Or at least, somebody who seemed to be experienced; appearances could deceive.
"Soo... have you been partners for long?" She asked John. "Seems like you've been to the Digital World a fair bit of times."
Probably way more than her, even though that wasn't really hard, thinking about it.

Casimeir would answer the first question that Amelie presented to the two. "Actually, we've been together for over two years as of this month." The Agumon's grin widened while he reminisced. "It really feels like just yesterday when John found my egg."
John was just as surprised as the Agumon with how long the pair had indeed been with each other. "Yep. Two years as of the eleventh of February. But as long as we've been partners, we've not really visited the Digital World very often. I think we just started going about last year."
John had to count in his head how many times the two of them visited the Digital World. "I'd say this makes our...Eighth trip in total." The human took note that Amelie was alone in comparison to the others. "What about you, Amelie? Have you been paired up with a Digimon?"

Yukiko listened to John and Amelie chatting, looking down at Mizu. The Betamon had crawled up to her lap, purring as Yukiko petted her. When this all started she had considered herself lucky when she met Takeshi. But now she met two more people related to these Digimon. How deep does it go? How many people were connected with them? This was all getting bigger and bigger...something her curiousity could hardly wait to dive into.
Soon enough, the train began moving, departing for Terminus City. Yukiko yipped a bit in surprise when the Trailmon set itself into motion, while Ayumi seemed quite ecstatic. "Aha, so beginneth our journey! I cannot wait to see it!". She hopped, then sat down and pulled a book out of her bag to help the time pass faster. The title read "神曲", the Japanese title for the Divine Comedy.

Oh, undoubtedly a pair that had been through a lot of stuff. "Whoa. Two years is a fair bit of time." She remarked, surprise dripping from her tone. "I have found out about digimon... I think than a little less than two months ago. Been in the Digital World... maybe eight to ten times, haven't really counted."
That made her believe that John and Cas weren't the types to go to the Digital World a whole lot. Well, she kinda avoided it, too. Even if... somehow, she found herself there more often than not. Really bothersome.
Now, regarding her partner? Well, that was a bit difficult to explain; mostly because she wasn't very used to the concept of "Spirit User". So instead, she just shrugged.
"Not the type that gets one, even though I wouldn't have minded it if that were the case. You guys seem to be so close that you make me a bit jealous, really."
Yukiko and Mizu-chan being similarly close didn't make that feel any better, even though the book Ayumi was currently reading served the brunette quite well to ignore that feeling.
"That's a nice book." Amy remarked. "Which circle are you on at the moment?"

Ayumi looked up from her book. She took a split second to process the sudden stop of her train of thought, then put her hand to her forehead and tried to look divine. This only ended up making her look adorable. "Seventh Circle, third ring! The tragedy of Dante seeing his beloved guardian Brunetto Latini suffer in hell! Truly, an example of how the ways of God are mysterious!" She wiped a lock of hair out of her face. "This is my second read, after having consulted some English critical literature with Yukiko's help. I am so very fond of the tragedy of Ugolino."

John's interest piqued when he listened to Ayumi give the details on the book that she was reading. From the title and how enthused she was with it, the man figured that she must have been a religious type. It wasn't uncommon. He had some spirituality, after all. But he also caught that Ayumi might just be a bit too enthusiastic about such a subject. He knew it was best not to get into any debates about it.
Casimeir eyed the Betamon with great interest. He always liked to make new Digimon friends. "So, Mizu, how are you liking the Human world so far? Was it easy for you to adjust to it?"

The amphibian Digimon opened one eye after she had closed both in delight from being pet. "Mrrrrm...the Human World? Why, I adore it! So much to see, so much to do, so many pretty people! It's such a shame I have to stay hidden away from it. I oughta slap whoever's responsible for souring Human-Digimon relationships which force this masquerade..." She turned to the Agumon. "How do you manage it? Do you also have to stay in a bag all the time?"

If anything, Ayumi seemed to be really passionate about the Divine Comedy and about trying to cause an impression. Something Amelie... wasn't sure was good or bad.
Oh well, at the very least it was a little bit endearing.
"It's an interesting chapter, indeed." She made a pause, taking in the information. "Second read, huh? Have you liked any passages any more or less?"
After all, people tended to appreciate different parts of a book after reading them once. The second reading was where you could truly appreciate the little things instead of trying to figure out the big picture. In a sense, one could say it was more enjoyable than the first one, even if that probably was a bit of an exaggeration.
"My favorite part is Inferno V, by the way. Probably not very original, but still flawlessly written, not to say that Dante's own inner struggle makes the piece all the more enjoyable."
Discussing literature while on a trip towards the Digital World. Who could have thought that?
"Changing topic a bit. What to expect to find in this small journey. Take you're searching for... your own version of Mizu-chan or Casimeir, so to say?"

Ayumi nodded. She was well acquainted with that Canto, as well. "Ah yes, the punishment of the lustful, the wind that throws them about, the tragedy of the star-crossed lovers, blown about by the gales. Whether one pities the sinner or not says a lot about them." She pushed up her glasses, her red eyes fixated on Amelie. The girl could tell those red eyes were just contact lenses. No one ever has red eyes. "The part that second reading has opened more to me? Canto 19, the punishment of the Simoniacs. It says a lot about the things Dante believes in."
Then came the question about her hopes for this trip. It was true, deep down she was hoping that she'd get her own Mizu, but what were the chances of that happening? "I must admit, the chances of gaining my own partner is quite low. My main motivation for this trip is to accompany Yukiko, and to see this mythical world with my own two eyes."

Casimeir shook his head when asked about having to stay in a bag. "Not anymore. I mean, I used to when I was a Koromon. But that was until John purchased a holosuit. I'm guessing you don't have one of your own?"
"They're pretty useful," John interjected. "When you buy one you can have it customized to be any disguise that you want. Casimeir's holosuit helps him look like a dog, for example. But for a while, we had to pretend that Cas was just a stuffed toy." The human smiled down at his partner as he reminisced. "Though Cas here loves to get all of the attention he does while he's a dog."
Casimeir did his best to stifle a chuckle from John's remark. When Ayumi mentioned her reasons for coming along, he tilted his head as he looked at the human. "Mythical? You mean the Digital World?" He paused. "Yeah, it is pretty mythical if you think about it. It's so different from the Human World in so many ways. But it also has a lot of similarities to it. What do you know about it so far?"

Mizu-chan was intrigued. This Holosuit sounded like something that was -made- for her! Her eyes positively sparkled! "Oh my, this holosuit stuff sounds amazing! I definitely want one! Think I can make it look like a gorgeous human so I can show the world how gorgeous I am in the open???"
Ayumi, meanwhile, was still in the reverie of talking about her favourite book. It took her a little while to realize someone else was speaking to her. "Eh? Oh, uh, I, well, I know it is a world that is digital, and that there are digital monsters. I am quite new to this, as is my dear Yukiko! We go there mostly to find out just what there is! Isn't that right?"
Yukiko nodded, but said nothing. She preferred to listen to the chatting around her than to engage in them, herself.

Ayumi showing interest on her favorite passage was something that definitely pleased the teenager. Guess they'd become good friends... if she didn't prove to be way too quirky. But hey, that made her interesting.
In her own special way, or... something.
"Canto 19 is definitely pretty great. Well, the Divine Comedy on itself is probably one of those timeless masterpieces, honestly. Sometimes I wonder what takes to write those kinds of books. If just talent, practice or... something else entirely."
Artists worked in mysterious ways, for sure, and while Amy was overall opposed to the idea of born prodigies, she had to admit that truly enlightened minds had something the common person lacked. Changing topics, though!
"I wouldn't dismiss your chances of getting something make your relationship with digimons personal, instead of just having to use Yukiko as a proxy." Maybe her wording was a little off, but... "Thus far, everyone I've met that knew of the existence of digimon sooner or later became related to them in one way or the other."
There was only one way to find out, however! And that'd take time and... the Trailmon reaching Terminus. How much time was their trip left? She had no idea.

For John and his partner, the train ride didn't feel as though it had been going on for long. Perhaps that was due to them being involved in some lovely conversations. Seeing glimpses of the view on the opposite side of the window, they could tell that they were now in the Digital World. It wouldn't be much longer for them to arrive at Terminus Station.
A gentle smile crossed John's lips. "She's right, Ayumi. You might get paired with a Digimon before you know it. I didn't find Casimeir's egg until I was twenty-four. But when it finally happens, it will be worth the wait."
"You know," Casimeir offered, "there are other ways to have Digimon paired up with you besides hatching them or being partnered to them. We've seen people with two Digimon who weren't even twins."
