Against All Odds [Amelie, Valentine's]

Was a nightclub a great place to meet a date? Asher wasn't entirely sure, really. Then again, Asher wasn't really sure this entire blind date thing was a good idea, to begin with! What had possessed the redhead to even sign up for something like this? A whim? Some taunting from his pet cat? Maybe it was a little of both. It was hard to say! Either way, the young man found himself tapping his fingers on the bar, as it would occasionally flash in a variety of colors, wondering how badly he had messed up. Wasn't he content enough with the amount of females in his life? After all, he dealt with only feminine spirits, on top of the people he met on a daily basis! Having been directed to a seat at the side of the bar, Asher was told to wait for the other poor soul person that had signed up for this crazy thing! Down side, the ex-actor wasn't really sure if the type of person that was okay with a date in a club would be someone that he could get along with. Up-side? If they weren't, alcohol could make them a lot more tolerable! Okay, that was a horrible way of looking at things. Why did he even go there with that thought process? Then again, maybe his date would decide she needed more than a few drinks to tolerate him! The thudding of music mostly drowned out his concerns, while he debated on checking his phone. Not that there was any point! There was no reception here for any device that Asher might have carried with him! Yellow eyes found themselves staring at the ceiling, debating how he had managed to arrive early. For the teen's personality, most people always expected him to be late. Then again, most people didn't know him very well, did they? After all, the people from his world also had no idea that the club he was going to was primarily populated by monsters from dreams and codes, rather than humans! Just as that thought crossed his mind, a woman-like Digimon walked by, dressed up somewhat like a bat. Oh. It didn't really cross his mind that it was entirely possible he'd be set up with a humanoid Digimon. After all, this was Whitewater! Back to the thoughts of alcohol to potentially aide an issue! Maybe, he should just go home. But, that wasn't a decent thing to do, regardless of the company! Or, of the nerves that were clearly getting to him by this point. Shifting in his seat, the spirit user hummed to the music. He needed to stay positive! There was no way this could actually go wrong. ...Right? Amelie

Amelie wasn't alien to the world of blind dates.
Sure, for most it sounded like something that desperate individuals recurred to if they wanted to find their significant other, but for the brunette, it was just another way to meet people! Not to say that, for some reason, people didn't take it that badly if you didn't hit off with them on blind dates. Maybe it was because their expectations weren't that high in first place? In any case, there being so little downside to the ordeal and a lot of potential to end up in some good fun, a new friend or... something else entirely made the whole process exciting!
What was an alien concept for her, however, was the fact that this particular date was going to be in a nightclub in... the Digital World of all places. That added the little extra spice of the unknown, and as long her date ended up being a human being, what was the worst that could happen? Hopefully, the service was mindful enough to not give her an Ogremon... or three.
That'd be totally awful, honestly; but better to not think about it! Just get pretty, go to the nightclub, and hope to have a good time! That was her plan.
How much time had passed since the last time she had consciously chosen to not wear jeans? That was a good question, even though the black dress she was currently using wasn't half bad. Coupled with a little more makeup than usual and a couple of accessories, she was ready to go!
One journey to the Digital World afterward, she found herself inside the building, scanning the place for the bar; if she remembered correctly, her date would be waiting there.
After finding it, and realizing that there was only one human sitting there and that human had a pretty... familiar red hue of hair, the realization dawned on the teenager, surprise etching into her features as she approached.
No. Way. "This is... unbelievable. Asher?" Even though a happy smile was quick to follow suit. At least this meant her night would be fun! "Isn't this like... the third time we have run into each other at random or something? I'm beginning to think this is some kind of spell or something."
Her smirk didn't waver one bit. "So. Here we are, I guess! Feel like doing anything in specific?"

Glancing around, the teen found himself watching various Digimon interacting in the club. Was it rude to people-watch like this? Er. Was it really considered people-watching? Digi-watching? Could Digimon even get drunk? Judging from a strange, bear-like monster staggering away from his seat, Asher could only assume that it was a possibility. Either that, or that was one unfortunate Digimon!
Absent-mindedly fixing the sleeves that were rolled to his elbows, the redhead let out a sigh. This was probably an awful idea! He was going to keep telling himself that until his date arrived, and he knew that! After all, he wasn't actually all that desperate for romance! And, one-night stands really weren't his thing! Women had a tendency of unnerving the poor teen, more than anything! But, surely, someone was coming here with hopes of some romantic outcome, right? Asher had to just keep telling himself that he hadn't really met a terrible Digimon-related person yet! Even Alicia, who was a little too high strung for Asher's comfort, wasn't a bad person!
Staring at the ceiling, briefly, the young man was snapped from his thoughts when a familiar voice managed to break through. "Amelie?" Was that his heart stopping from embarrassment, or was it skipping a beat? Probably embarrassment! Or concern that one of them might be a stalker. It was hard to tell, some days! "Something like that!" Yeah. He was probably looking like a stalker. But, there was no way he could have rigged this to spend the evening with Amelie! Or, uh, could he? Certainly not with his current standing of intelligence! But, maybe someone else would have been capable of such a creepy feat! "Maybe, it's fate! Stuck dealing with me forever, or something," he joked, as a slightly nervous grin slipped across his lips. It was probably a love spell. Those were totally real, after all.
Best not to make that sort of joke. It was already weird enough that Asher would sign up for a blind date! Not that Amelie could actually judge him for it. She did this, too! At least it was someone that Asher was somewhat comfortable with! This night couldn't go nearly as bad as anticipated, now!
As for what to do now? Well! Asher hadn't really thought too far ahead, since he was busy second-guessing himself for the duration of his wait! "Well, depends on what you like," he started, smile becoming notably more comfortable as he spoke. "There is dancing," he commented on one of the more obvious options, while making a small gesture at several monsters on the dance floor. Then, he continued on to add, "we can go someplace else," which he had no suggestions for where else! "Or you can sit down," he hummed, making a gesture at the seat next to him. The grin remained on his lips, as the ex-actor added in a final bit on his last suggestion, "they do have Wasabi beer here. And I vaguely remember this agreement we had..."

Of course Asher would recur to his usual antics. Even if he was dressing way more fashionably than usual and looked way more handsome than usual, at the end of the day... Asher was still Asher.
The habit doesn't make the monk, or something like that. Amelie couldn't help but giggle at his remarks, however; even if it was obvious that he was playing the role of clown, it was still a pretty impressive act!
Not to say that didn't stop her from trying to match it, though! For a moment, she stared dejectedly into the ground. "Dealing with you, forever? Woe is me. I've heard fate is a cruel mistress, but this is an excess."
Only to rise her gaze and smile teasingly. "But! You know~." She said as she sat beside the redhead. "If you wanted to date me that badly, should've just asked! No reason to set up a blind date thing; must've been a real hassle." Was she really meaning those words, or simply teasing him due to the series of strange coincidences that were pretty much every time they met? Given that pretty much every time they've seen each other had been mostly a coincidence, it was something that made her wonder.
Enough of that, though! She was pretty sure that love magic didn't exist and that was despite the Venusmon staring at them with a pretty weird (dreamy?) expression from the other side of the bar. It wasn't like she was going to need a goddess or anything, right?
Right.
Back on what mattered, it seemed that the brunette's date was also at a loss on what to do, at least at first. It didn't take him much time to concoct a variety of plans, even if those ended with something... yeah, she probably had jinxed it as soon as she thought the word concoct.
"I can't believe you remembered about that." For a second, Amy's face contorted into a grimace. Of course she wasn't going to chicken out, and especially after she had been reminded of that... challenge? Compromise? She didn't even know how to call it. "Oh well. Too late to back down now." A simple shrug followed suit as she prepared herself for the inevitable. Guess that if life gave you wasabi...
"Hope this isn't just a ploy to get your date drunk or something, though! That'd be super rude." She'd have at least have a laugh or two out of it.

Surely, Amelie couldn't expect that Asher would act too much differently, when faced with her being his date! Though, honestly, this was probably one of the more ideal situations! Considering the young man's aversion to dating, and discomfort around most women in general, someone that he already knew was kind of perfect! On a more romantic level, though? Time could only tell on that one! He was already trying to remind himself that this wasn't just two friends meeting up for a random occasion!
And, having met this person before, Asher was also aware when she was matching his joke with one of her own! Was this night just going to dissolve into the two of them constantly teasing one another? Really, that wouldn't be so bad. Maybe not so romantic, but Asher couldn't really tell if the girl would have thrown that idea out the window the second that she saw him!
Smile lost some of its nervous composure, at her bit about the date. "Well, I'll have to keep that in mind next time," he hummed, playfully. Next time? Was that a jab at a 'second' date idea? Or, just to reference for future girls that were dumb enough to agree to a date with him? Maybe it was just too soon to tell! "It would be a lot of effort to make sure that you signed up for this blind date, and nobody else! You mean that kind of effort doesn't impress a girl?" No. That would actually be kind of weird. And, by kind of, that meant extremely weird! "I doubt I'd have picked a nightclub, if I was planning on inviting you out," he admitted, a little more quietly. This didn't actually seem like the type of place that he'd expect Amelie to go for!
Luckily, Asher didn't see the Venusmon. It probably would have creeped him out! Then again, he wasn't really paying attention to anyone other than his 'date' at this point! He could only imagine that Amelie was the one regretting how this got set up, now! Would this even really count as a date? Though, since she had sat down, the redhead could only imagine that she was somewhat accepting of this fate!
Giving a snicker, the ex-actor shook his head. "Hey, if my date gets drunk off of one wasabi beer, I can't be at fault for that!" Especially since she was probably going to spit out the first sip and refuse to touch it for the rest of the night! "Think! If you hadn't shown up, I would have forgotten about it!" But, since he was sitting in a place with drinks, and Amelie just so happened to show up, there was no better way to jog his memory! "Then, you'd never find out if you like wasabi beer." Let's face it. Nobody probably liked wasabi beer.
Catching the bartender's attention, the drinks were soon brought over to the duo. Being in the Digital World, it didn't seem that anybody actually cared about checking ages. After all, half of the Digimon in the room were probably less than two years old, as far as humans went! Ugh. That thought made Asher feel old. He didn't want to consider that any further!
Yellow eyes flickered to the drinks, giving a thoughtful, "hm." He took a brief second to think about his word choice, before returning his focus on Amelie. "You look really pretty." This was almost immediately followed by, "but, you always do." Sure, he was pretty good with flirting at random times. But, for real, and on a date? It was hard to say! Then again, was that second part weird to say? It wasn't like she only looked pretty tonight, after all!
Not that he'd let Amelie dwell on that compliment too long, as the redhead was quick to alter focus! "So, do you want anything else to drink, in case you need to get rid of the taste of this one right away?"

This is how every conversation with Asher had gone thus far, hadn't it? Playful teasing that seemed common among old friends, even though they hadn't been acquaintances for... more than a month? At times like this, she couldn't but wonder if there was something else.
Something she hadn't realized yet. Or maybe they just had the type of personality that was good at making friends and the brunette was overestimating herself.
Why was she thinking about this, though? The whole point of going out on a blind date was to have fun, not to think about her relationships with people! The teenager would do well on remember that. Second guessing herself, especially now wouldn't bring her anywhere!
"Already planning the next time, huh? Aren't we confident, are we?" The glint of mischief shone in her eyes as the fingers of her left hand tapped the bar in an amused gesture at his next words. "I think... a good amount of concern is the most likely reaction you'd get from doing that." Did anyone like stalkers, seriously? Guessed that somebody out there must have, even though that wasn't the case for Amy.
"Where would have you taken me, then? You got me curious there!"
Given how cryptic Asher could be at times, that question was prompted by genuine curiosity. Not like she minded this kind of place, even though the loud music wasn't the best when trying to hold a conversation with another person. Those were pretty essential on dates, right? Luckily. and for now, the two seemed to understand each other just fine. That was a bit of a relief!
Just one beer, though? Either that was wishful thinking or Asher was really clever or innocent. Or both! "I've been to enough nightclubs to know that when you begin drinking, it hardly stops at the first beer. I'll say one thing, though; if I end up doing anything silly, it'll be your fault! Hope you're ready to bear that weight."
Of course she was at least partially joking, that evidenced by the giggle that followed soon after. Better to take it with humor than to just sulk at their bitter and probably spicy fate. Still, she couldn't but to sigh at the sight of the two glasses with yellow-greenish liquid as they were brought soon afterwards.
"Already calling it. This is going to be so~ awful." For a second, her gaze lost itself in the contents of her glass. She was about to raise it when... she got complimented, seemingly out of the blue. What could she say; this was probably the first time ever Asher had complimented her, about her appearance of all things, and it seemed... genuine, no hidden jokes or anything of the like attached?
How unexpected that had been, combined with Amelie's own weakness for flattery resulted in her blushing way more than the situation deserved; even if not quite looking like a tomato, it was still pretty obvious to discern. "Th-thank you." She muttered in a barely audible tone, before regaining her composure. "You look handsome, too."
Maybe that compliment was out of place, that probably evidenced by the way Asher was quick to change the subject. Oh well; Better to not to dwell on it too much, right?
Right.
"Well~." She was pensive for a second, watching at the drinks being served to help her think. "A daiquiri would be nice, I guess! What about you? Are you gonna have something else, or are you feeling bold today?" In any case, she'd go with her previous plan and raise her glass slightly in Asher's direction.
"Cheers, I guess?"

Maybe it was normal for Asher to be like this with everyone! Or, these two had just kicked things off on the right foot. Sure, Asher tried to play around with a lot of people that he didn't know particularly well, but it didn't always work out that way! As far as this becoming a date, though? Asher probably didn't see himself making much complaint on it, unless it made things awkward in the future! Then again, going on a date with another spirit user was dangerous enough, without damage to potential friendships being on the line! After all, one wrong move could easily turn into Amelie turning into... whatever it was that she had, and reacting horribly!
But, that wouldn't happen! Hopefully.
Giving a playful hum, the redhead glanced to the side. "I don't know if I'd call it confidence. After all, getting you to sign up for a second blind date might be kind of difficult!" After all, who was going to enlist in a million blind-date events? Actually, Asher had to admit that he didn't know Amelie well enough to be sure that she wouldn't! But, that would be an awfully big gamble! Not that the teen had any idea of how to make a blind date situation like this!
Now, a "hmm," escaped from the young man, as he pretended to think about date locations for a moment. A smile shifted to a playful smirk, before answering with, "if this goes well, you could always find out next time!" Oh, come on! That couldn't be fair! Asher had no way of knowing if this date would turn out! And, he didn't want to sound too hopeful that it would! Then again, was he hopeful? He hadn't really thought about it. He'd have to wait until this night progressed more, to decide how he even felt on the subject!
On that thought, the redhead hummed a curious, "ever been to an amusement park?" It seemed like most kids would have been to one at least once! But, Asher was from California, and he hadn't lived too terribly far from one! Was that too childish, though?
Maybe it was easy to think Asher was legitimately that innocent! "I only suggested the one, though!" Terrible defense! But, it was the best he had! As for consolation? "If you get too crazy, I'll just carry you out of the club." Amelie surely didn't mean 'bearing the weight' in a literal sense! But, Asher was going to take it there! "As long as you don't run off with a lion-man or something, anyway." After all, nobody wanted to really fight with a lion to get a drunken girl back. He'd probably do it! But, it wouldn't be fun!
Right now, though? Right now was funny. Trying to suppress a snicker, the redhead focused on his drink. He wanted to say it didn't smell awful, at the least, but... well. It did. Beer and wasabi, as a combination, certainly didn't seem sweet on the nose. Though, the young man had to admit, he wasn't actually a huge fan of the smell of either to begin with! Amelie was right, this was probably going to be awful. Hopefully worth it, though! In the least, saying that they'd tried something new or weird!
Just like it was weird to receive a compliment back. Certainly not in a bad sort of way! More, unexpected! Sure, it was the appropriate response to such a thing, but it didn't mean that the teen had anticipated it! Lips shifted to a softer smile, while he took a moment to glance up at the lights. Ugh. He was blushing. He could feel it! Don't be awkward! Looking back to the drinks, he gave a slightly-too-quick, "thanks," to at least acknowledge the statement, before moving onto the task at hand.
The bartender had returned, hearing discussions of drinks to be had, taking note of the first request, and paused, waiting for Asher's response. For a second, eyes shifted to the bar, as if he hadn't expected a need to answer this as well. Why ask a question, if you don't have an answer, yourself? Ah well! It didn't take more than a second to decide, "I think I'll get a white russian." Considering there was no fuss made by the bartender, only a nod and backing away to get the required items, it seemed that they wouldn't have to wait too long for a replacement once the beer was decided to be awful!
Now, Asher lifted his own glass, flashing a small grin. "Cheers." And, despite knowing that there was no way this could end pleasantly, the ex-actor brought the glass up to his lips, waiting to make sure Amelie would follow suit before he took a drink.

It was funny, even though not entirely unexpected. At this point, Amelie was more or less expecting the redhead to go back and forth. That was exactly like him, wasn't it? To go back and forth, almost as if measuring or searching for a reaction. Or... maybe just insecure? Why was she thinking about this? It wasn't like they were doing therapy or anything of the sort. The end goal was just to have fun, right?
"Why do you think it would be difficult?" A teasing smile ensued, probably the biggest one thus far. "I've already said it, haven't I? You just have to ask. Unless~." She wasn't the type to tease, but the situation was just lending itself for her to do so. Was that playing nice? Probably not, but it was fun. "Maybe you just don't want to? That'd make sense, I guess."
Yeah, she was probably guilty of giving mixing signals, but that was only because her date was doing the exact same thing! That just wasn't an even playing field, was it? As much as she would've preferred a completely straightforward conversation, hoping that with Asher was a bit of a lost cause, at least if Amy's previous experiences with him were any indication of it.
Oh well, she couldn't deny it had its charm, however. An amusement park, huh? That had been a little of an unexpected answer, and one that had certainly intrigued the teenager.
"Honestly, I have never gone to one." The gleam of curiosity shone in Amelie's blue eyes, even if it was somewhat restrained. "Guess the opportunity never presented itself? Even though that sounds like a lazy excuse." And she was just a liiitle bit afraid of heights, but that was probably better left unsaid for now. "I'd like to visit one someday, though! Any experience there you want to share?"
An amused laugh came out from her lips at his response on the drinking matter. It was tad obvious he was awful at defending his stance, but that's what made the matter entertaining, in a sense. "Alright. I'll be counting on you, then! Don't say I didn't warn you, though." She had done enough stupid things while drunk to discard the possibility of lion men, however. With any luck, it wouldn't come to that. "Annnd~ and I'm not making any promises about that. Especially if the wasabi beer is awful."
The phrase was followed by a giggle, even though that one came to a sudden halt when their "drinks" arrived. Guess it was time to fulfill that dumb bet once and for all. Not being all that amused at the grin flashed at her, she just prepared herself the best she could, and after clinking the glasses, brought her own to her lips in order to taste the beverage.
It took her less than a sip to realize how awful the thing tasted. In less than a second, her taste buds were begging for mercy, or at least for the swift release of death. Okay, that was maybe a little overdramatic; she just set the glass down after the first sip, trying to hide an expression of sheer disgust the best should and failing epically at it.
"Not drinking that thing ever again." The tone couldn't be more serious, even if she tried. "I hope the drinkable stuff comes soon; I really need to wash this... thing off."
Showing displeasure hadn't ever been so easy in her whole life. Just. Ughhhhhh

Okay, Asher may have difficulties talking to women sometimes. But, one thing he knew very well was that if a girl smiled that much, it meant that the guy was walking into a trap! For this reason, the teen had to try to watch his words notably more carefully for the next few moments! Otherwise, they might get held against him! "Well, wouldn't make much sense now, would it?" After all, they were both on an unplanned date together! "Unless, you want me to ask you on a second date right now." Which, would be weird even to Asher! Well, maybe especially to Asher! Faux cocky comments aside, he wasn't actually thinking about that quite yet!
"Unless you want to make this 'officially' not a blind date," he hummed, playfully. Putting on his best 'serious' tone -- which wasn't too difficult for an actor, anyway -- he began with, "hey, I know this is sudden, but," the redhead paused, for dramatic effect, "do you want to go on a date? Right here? Right now?" For a second, he'd wait to see if Amelie had a response before selecting an appropriate fake response! Or, genuine? Tough call!
Though, it looked like an amusement park could have been a hit. Unless it turned out Amelie suffered terrible motion sickness or something! "Never?" Asher's response could have easily come off as surprise! Or, was it excitement? After all, the concept seemed fun enough! "I've gone to a few. But! It's always a little different!" After all, it depended strongly on what place he was at, and who he was with! Company always made the trip, after all! "I've heard there are a few around Tokyo, but haven't had a chance to check them out."
It was a good thing that the two were capable of keeping these subjects so light. Otherwise, Asher would probably have a much harder time with this date! Then again, he had been expecting things to go terribly, and definitely to have a complete stranger sitting by him! At least he didn't have to worry about dragging a drunken stranger out of a nightclub! "It can't be that bad, right? Unless you need, like, five drinks to wash it down." Oh, words spoken far too soon! Now that the beer was in front of him, he could easily say that it looked that bad!
The redhead was far less concerned about how bad it theoretically would be, though! Because, they were only seconds from finding out! After glasses tapped, he placed it to his lips, pausing briefly to make sure that the brunette wasn't going to back out. Color him surprised! She didn't hesitate! Nor did she hesitate to show her distaste! Trying not to laugh with the glass between his lips, the teen took a proper drink of the substance. For a moment, several different degrees of quizzical expressions crossed over his face, before shaking his head. Oh, that was just plain weird!
Giving a small cough, and squinting one eye, he swished the liquid in his glass. "It's not that bad!" Asher gave a small snicker, lowering his head to look into the glass. Who the heck thought this was a good combination, though? "Not that good! But," now, there was a pause, as he finally fully processed the tone and expression that his date was giving. Oh, she really hated that, didn't she? For several seconds, Asher tried to suppress a grin, taking the moment of composure to set his glass down.
As soon as it made a soft clink of hitting the table, though, he found himself laughing. Not subtly, either! Managing to force a breath into his chuckling, the young man rushed to say, "I swear I'm not laughing at you. I swear!" Except, he totally was! "I just never thought you'd hate it that much!" But, it was bad! Asher just had a decent tolerance to terrible foods! He knew better than to laugh at his date, though! Regaining his breath fully, one final snicker escaped his lips. "Am I going to have to get you flowers or something for making you try that?" He'd probably have to buy her an entire greenhouse after laughing like that! The spirit user would be pretty lucky if she didn't try to walk out on him now!
Luckily, Amelie wouldn't have to wait very long for a different taste! The bartender had finally brought over their drinks! Maybe that would save her taste buds!

If the brunette could say anything about the situation, was that stakes seemed to get higher and higher the more they were into the conversation regarding this small topic. Now, it was true that most of it had been the two mostly teasing each other in what seemed to be a friendly-ish way, but Amelie had the sensation that maybe, just maybe, a certain line had been crossed not long ago. Were all those comments entirely meant as jokes? Was it true that there was not even an ounce of seriousness in them? Even for somebody as... peculiar as Asher, she genuinely doubted it, even though she may or may not have pushed his buttons in order to get a reaction from him.
Truthfully, though? She honestly didn't regret any of it. Seeing this through its end would be entertaining... or the end of her strange friendship with the redhead but. What was life without taking the occasional risk in a blind date at a nightclub?
It was certainly not as thrilling, for sure!
"Hmmm." It was a little uncharacteristic of her to hum, that being a reaction that usually went the other way around. She seemed to genuinely ponder the proposition thrown her way. What she could say; even though it hadn't been the most conventional way to ask for a date, and the probability of it being mostly a joke was more or less high, could it be that she was taking it seriously? Or maybe just for the sake of watching Asher's own reaction to it? That was a mystery, and what made the whole situation interesting.
"Well, if you say it like that..." Her tone was surprisingly soft and composed. "I'd be delighted to. After all, I'd be a hypocrite if I told that you just had to ask and then refuse, wouldn't I?" The intent of the small smile that came next was pretty much impossible to discern.
She might have been blushing just a little bit, but that probably was just the nightclub's lightning! Nothing to do with her, like at all.
Now that was taken care of (or was it?), they could move on to things like amusement parks! Fear of heights notwithstanding, she reckoned there was still plenty of things that could be done there and that didn't involve her being scared to death and other things, as funny as that sounded. "Oh, right! I've heard of the amusement park in Tokyo too. Maybe we could go there someday if you're up to it."
Was that an idea for a second date, or just the proposal for a friendly outing? At this point, it was hard to know, and... probably better left that way?
Especially with what came next. The wasabi beer that would prove to be the most hideous thing the teenager had tasted in her whole life; honestly? She knew it probably would be awful, but she wasn't backing down from a "promise" anyway. It was in times like these when she regretted taking those so seriously. Amy was sure that she wouldn't forget that horrid taste, even if she got drunk within the next five minutes.
And Asher's laughter was definitely not helping matters out! On an everyday situation, the brunette would probably be angry at him, but in this case, she pretty much brought this to herself, and there wasn't anything she could about it. It would help a lot if he just stopped laughing, though!
"Alright." Her expression wasn't the friendliest about it, but she was surprisingly taking the whole situation in stride. "If it's not me, you'll have to tell what's so funny to make you laugh that hard. It'd be better if the two could laugh about it, wouldn't it?"
The answer was obvious, even if a little trap question just to see how the redhead would try to wriggle out of it was a nice way to get back at him. "And, you can't honestly say that thing wasn't totally awful. It was like, the worst drink I ever had!"
At this point, she didn't know what was worse; that amused reaction or the fact that Asher had found the thing to be more or less alright! And actually, was leaning towards the latter. "You will have to figure out what to get me to make up for that, though! Not giving you any hints."
Probably nothing would be more or less okay, given this was a thing the two had agreed on, but that wasn't an amusing answer. And since the redhead had offered himself so willingly...
Her disposition seemed to improve, and by quite a bit once the real drinks arrived! As soon as Amy's daiquiri was placed in the bar, she lifted the glass and took a generous sip, sighing in relief after it.
"Much better. At least my taste buds aren't permanently ruined or something. That would have been be a pity." Oh well, at least the tasting experience had been... interesting?
Not really, but trying to find a silver lining was the least she could do.

As far as the redhead was concerned, he was trying to avoid thinking about how this night was going to end. With legitimate romance not being his strong suit, and the fact that this was Amelie that he was sitting with, it was confusing enough to try to think from moment to moment. He didn't really want to consider exactly what would happen, if he said something to make this date go sour. Would they stop having a friendship? Or, uh, whatever this was? Were they actually friends? Asher didn't know. Often, it was hard for the teen to tell who to consider friends, and what people were just acquaintances. While tonight was clearly an exception, Amelie seemed like she could sit pretty decently on the small list of friends.
With that thought, he had to wonder what tonight was going to do to affect it. Maybe, there was good reason to actually become nervous for this date! Shoving the strange thought pattern away, the young man tilted his head, echoing Amelie with a, "hmm?" of his own. Oh, come on. She wasn't actually going to draw this out, was she? Not that it was likely to reject someone, after essentially convincing them to ask her out! That would just be rude on so many levels!
Judging from the almost cocky smile on the redhead's lips, he didn't seem too worried about the concept of being rejected. In fact, the way that Amelie was playing the situation was kind of cute. Kind of. Like that smile at the end! "I don't know if it'd be hypocritical, or just mean," he chuckled. It wasn't like there was any skirting around the fact that it would be extremely unkind to reject someone after asking them to put themselves out there! Not that any of this seemed to be a legitimate concern!
With all of the times that he was already ignoring caution signs going off in his head, he may as well add another one to it! Who needed clarity on friendship or dates? If this date ended up horrible, and he had a chance to salvage friendship (acquaintanceship?) with amusement parks? Sure. That seemed like a great plan too. Best not to think too far into it! "Sounds like fun!" Until he gets stuck in a ride that pretends to be an elevator. Or until they learn that Amelie might be unable to handle rides because of fear of heights. But, hey, amusement parks have fun food stands. So, there was always something!
And, amusement park food was way better than Wasabi beer! After this, Asher was probably never going to be able to convince Amy to try weird foods again! But, how was he going to play off his laughter? Laughter had a great way of making it really difficult to think of a convincing lie, impromptu. So, why not just go with a really bad one, instead? "It-- must just be the beer," he grinned, trying to regulate breathing. "It's just funny that--" Okay, yeah. Nobody was going to believe anything about this beer was funny. It was just gross.
"--No, it's you. I'm totally laughing at you," the ex-actor admitted, shifting back on his seat. While the laughing had subsided to a small snicker, it was obvious that he still found the situation humorous. This was why people didn't take the teen anywhere! "I want to say I'm sorry, but I really wish I would have taken a picture of the face you made." And that was why Asher shouldn't be allowed to take women on dates. "You sounded so upset, but the face you made was so cute." Was it a bad idea to call the date you just laughed at cute? Or was that something that might save him? Time would tell. Either way, it was probably best to avoid getting Amy to make that expression a second time in one night!
Now that he could breathe, though, the conversation could continue at a relatively normal pace! Yellow eyes widened, innocently, in a form of 'puppy eyes.' With a slight disappointed tone to his words, he drew out, "not even one hint?" Not that he deserved any hints! Either way, after a few seconds, he began to smile again, and tapped his fingers on the table. "I'll think of something." Though, without any hints, Amelie might have a reason to be concerned about what the young man could think of. Especially in someplace as weird as the Digital World!
Watching Amelie take a drink of her (decent) beverage, the teen clicked his tongue to the roof of his mouth and gave a nod. Well. If she drank the entire thing at that rate, he was probably going to end up fighting with a lion for her later on! Though, it was probably the brunette's attempt at removing the strange aftertaste of wasabi mingling with beer. Then again, Asher's thoughts would make him a hypocrite, since his drink from his own beverage wasn't particularly tiny. Good thing he hadn't vocalized it at all! Lowering his glass to the bar again, the redhead took at glance at the remainder of the beers. "At least if they were ruined, you wouldn't have to worry about food being gross," he pointed out, playfully. That was the best worst-way to look at things, ever! Maybe everyone needed some sort of silver lining!
But, with that little event out of the way, Asher had to loop to a question that he had been thinking since the girl had walked up. "So, what made you decide to sign up for a blind date?" While he debated on going back to the whole 'setting the blind date up to get a date with Amelie' joke, the young man decided that it was already a little worn out. And that it would be really creepy if Amelie started believing it! So, for once, common sense was keeping that idea at bay!

Had the whole response been that predictable? Guess it was! Not like Amelie had spent a lot of effort at her attempt at playing genuine doubt at that query. Maybe Asher acted with false boldness, even though that was, overall, pretty unlikely. Then again, he could be so unpredictable at times that there was no way for her to be totally sure.
Better if she just... stopped thinking about the whole matter. They were having fun, right? That's what mattered!
"Too bad I'm not a hypocrite... or that mean, then." Of course, now her tone made it painfully obvious that she wasn't being serious. "I'd have loved to see a dejected Asher. Would've been a first timer, too."
Who knew. Maybe he'd look like the puss in boots from a certain movie? The hair colors certainly matched! It wasn't like she was in a hurry to find out, however. All in due time, right?
That phrase sounded hypocritical in itself, given she was already dating somebody she wasn't sure was just an acquaintance or a friend! But... it wasn't like she expected to find him on a blind date, of all things. Even if... they had kinda made plans for another outing right away? This was a little confusing, and the fact that she couldn't stop thinking about it was becoming a bit bothersome.
In the end, she just nodded at Asher's words as they moved on towards the dreaded wasabi beer. That thing being the worst drink she ever had was probably the understatement of her life, and Asher's laughter was, in a way, adding insult to injury. She wasn't going to get really upset, mostly because she imagined her face must've been priceless, but the brunette guessed that it came without saying that her revenge would be terrible. When she cared about carrying it out, that was.
"You know, I was wondering when you would finally come out clean." She finally admitted, not overly surprised about Asher's final response. Surprisingly, her tone sounded somewhat amused. "For someone who can be so smooth with words, looking at you squirming a bit for a response was funny."
It really didn't take much for the young woman to blow off steam; just as long as Asher didn't continuously push her buttons in excess, they'd probably be fine. Was she being too tolerant? Should she draw a harder line? Mayyybe. But then again, she was more or less expecting a reaction like that after tasting such an awful beverage. In sense, she couldn't really blame him.
For now, that was. Asher probably would have to be extra careful for the rest of the night if he wanted to remain in her good graces. "You know~. Remember when I said you were the worst? I was so young an innocent back then. Bu~t, I'm fairly certain of that now, at least!"
An innocent giggle followed. Was that a warning? And more importantly, wouldxº the redhead really try to really find out? Didn't seem like the safest endeavor, but this was Asher who we were talking about, so who knew! "Oh well. I guess I could've laughed at myself and my cute face if you had taken the picture instead of it being a one-sided thing. Guess I can't count on you being just a little mindful, can I?"
What kind of teasing was that, seriously? In a sense, try to have a laugh at herself was better than just giving the redhead more ammunition to tease her. She knew how these situations usually played, and if she wanted for the topic to come to a close, the best way to do so probably was for her to just not mind it too much. Which she kinda did, honestly.
At least she appreciated the compliment, even though it wouldn't make the redhead's life any simpler, at least in regards to getting back at her! "Nope. Not even one hint. You'll have to figure that on your own~." Yet, somehow... she didn't feel all that reassured at the smile that followed suit. What could be on Asher's mind? The brunette would probablyyy find out soon enough. Or not.
Maybe she shouldn't have drunk her daiquiri so quickly? Just like that, a third or so of her glass was gone, and while she liked to think she had some resistance to the effects of alcohol, drinking that much as fast as she did would probably have its consequences somewhat soon. Especially since she had no idea how strong the Digital World's equivalent of alcohol was.
As playful as the next remark was, she couldn't but disagree with it, somewhat wholeheartedly. "I mean, I still want to try a lot of things, and my tasting career ending so soon due to one thing would've been a shame, don't you think? I'm sure that, at the very least mom would be mad if I couldn't enjoy her cooking anymore."
A small smile and a little laugh ensued. "And, for some reason. I kinda think that this won't be the last awful thing I'm going to taste if I continue to hang out with you. I have no idea why, though."
Oh well; least she had managed to get back to the teasing game, even if it had promptly ended. The next question had been something that she hadn't expected, even if it was a totally fair thing to ask.
"Well..." For what probably was the first time since she had entered the nightclub, she seemed to be in a bit of a pensive mood. "I have done blind dates in the past, and I think that mostly, they have been good experiences! To this day, I'm still in touch with some of the people I dated, so I guess that... it's also a way to make friends? Or at least it is when you don't get somebody you already know by some miraculous chance. Or stalking; I'm not quite sure yet."
Somehow, Amy just couldn't resist making that remark. Was that cheap? Maybe, but she didn't care. "What about you? Given how crazy fans can be, I figured an actor wouldn't attempt something like this. Weren't you afraid of the chances of the whole thing backfiring?" Well, chances of a fan also having access to the Digital World were somewhat remote, but... so were the chances they had of crossing paths. Non-zero percent could be enough at times. "Being honest, I really thought you weren't the type to do this kind of things. Color me surprised."

Head tilted, musing over the idea of a mean Amelie. Hmm. Nope! He couldn't really imagine it! At least, not in earnest. "What, you want me to be sad?" Matching the joking tone of his date, the redhead gave a smile. "Maybe you are mean!" Ah, an even better way to impress a date! Call her mean!
Though, between calling her mean and making her try wasabi beer, Asher probably wasn't hitting things off too well! The laughing just couldn't be helped. It was a really good thing that Amelie was such a good sport, wasn't it? Otherwise, this date would have probably already ended on a bad note!
But, smooth with words? Asher hadn't really thought of himself as such, before! At least, not when he wasn't attempting to be! Which, wasn't very often. "I mean, I could have lied," he admitted, with a hum. "But, isn't honesty the best policy, or something?" Yeah, that wasn't a very good save. But, it was better than pointing out that nothing he said was going to be believable through a laughing fit! "Glad it could be entertaining, at least!" Entertainment was kind of what Asher was for, wasn't it? After all, he was literally raised to be entertaining!
Being called awful on a date was probably a bad thing, normally, too. But, the young man didn't take it to heart. Instead, he flashed a grin. "I'm pretty sure I could be way worse!" Somehow! He wasn't really positive what could make him truly the worst at this point! Maybe, by offering a pet rat for a gift? Hm. Best not to test that. Asher didn't really want to know what rats looked like in the Digital World, anyway.
In fact, Asher was apparently so terrible that he didn't even take a picture of Amelie being grossed out! What had been a playful grin shifted to one that was far more mischievous. "Well, I'm sorry I wasn't considerate enough! I'll have to start documenting all your expressions!" Except, not really. Because, that would be really weird. "I'd hate for you to miss out, you know?" See? Asher was a totally sweet person! Who was definitely not going to fill his phone with pictures of Amelie!
Yeah. Asher was insanely lucky that he was talking to Amy, instead of most other people. He probably wouldn't be able to get away with comments like that to a total stranger! Then again, it wasn't like the teen never pushed his social boundaries, anyway!
"Hmmm," the redhead hummed, thoughtfully. What was he going to have to come up with for a gift? This might end up falling under the inquiry of 'what pushes social boundaries' also! Asher wasn't so sure, yet! For the time being, Amy only seemed particularly interested in having her drink. Which was going a little too fast!
Subconsciously not wanting to fall too far behind, the young man took a drink of his own beverage. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea for either of them! But, it would surely be fun! Even if Asher had to wonder how many drinks either of them would have the tolerance for!
But, if they couldn't taste anything, it would certainly make it easier to consume alcohol rapidly. Which was probably more of a bad thing than it was good! "I guess that's fair. But, then you could 'enjoy' anything you didn't like, too!" Still a terrible way of looking at it! Asher liked his tastebuds, too, after all! Giving a fake pout, the redhead glanced away. What? Him? Be a reason for Amelie eating gross stuff? Pssh! Okay. Kind of! "I have no idea what would give you that impression!" At least it hadn't been an agreement on eating crickets or something! Even Asher wasn't that brave!
Taking another drink, he'd listen to Amelie's reasoning for the blind date. Giving another hum at the response, the ex-actor debated if he found this a sufficient answer. It wasn't like he could say it was a bad answer, regardless! Everyone had their own reasons for things! A small snicker escaped at the last part, feeling the need to rebut with, "hey, now. Maybe you're the stalker!" Even if Asher was the one that usually approached Amelie in public places! But, today, Asher had arrived first! So who was to say? Or, what if they were secretly stalking each other? That would make things pretty complicated!
Expression was soon to shift to blank. After a couple of blinks, it slowly altered to a somewhat sheepish smile. "You know, I didn't really think about fans," he admitted. Oops. What was the worst that could have happened, anyway? Okay, probably a lot of things! "Guess I don't always think things through!" Well, that was a given. Anyone that knew Asher would know that! "You've got me there, though. Blind dates really aren't my thing." Or dates at all!
"But, I've never been on a blind date." While this was probably entirely unsurprising, it seemed like an important detail! "And my relationships in California were kind of," he paused, realizing that there was no way to finish the sentence without it sounding bad. But, it would be worse to leave a sentence half-finished! "Picked for me. Not like a blind date isn't pretty much the same thing, but there's some choice in it, I guess." After all, Asher signed up for a blind date! He didn't always plan for his mom to drag a girl into the house! And standing up and walking out of a restaurant if you don't like how the person acts or looks is far more frowned upon when a parent is involved in the setup! Okay, this topic was starting to feel a little too deep. Time to find a better way to answer this! "Plus. I've only seen blind dates on TV. And they looked like fun." Of course he'd use the cop-out response like that, to try to make it sound better! "So, why not see what they're actually like, right?"

A mirthful giggle ensued right after Asher's own response. If the redhead was consciously playing into it, he was surely doing so relatively perfectly. "Sad about being rejected by me you mean? Well, yes; it'd have been amusing... at the very least!" Maybe not really, but, at least that comment played into his second accusation. "Yup, the meanest girl you could've ended up with on a blind date if you ask me. It's not too late to run away, if you're thinking about it!"
Amelie had some serious doubts about that actually being the case, even though one never truly knew when it came to Asher. His laughter had been contagious all along, or maybe it was just the pair gradually losing their inhibitions due to the alcohol slowly getting into their bloodstream? The brunette hadn't realized that her glass was dangerously close to being empty.
Not like she cared, though! Thus far, this had been... pretty fun, in an interesting sort of way. Amy's elbow eased itself on the table, her chin propped on the palm of her hand as she stared at him for a lazy second before getting back to the conversation.
"Somehow, I think you aren't really fond of lying when it's obvious that you are. Or when that won't end up in somebody else laughing at it. It's just a wild guess, though!" Not to say... "Be~sides! The alternative had a way better result, if you ask me."
It was relaxing, in a sense. How the conversation could go back and forth like this without no one getting offended by it. It was true that Amelie herself had been perhaps dangerously close to that feeling, but that seemed something that was already left in the past.
"I'm sure you could if you tried!" A small shrug of her shoulders signaled that there was no point in arguing that. People consciously trying to be worse usually had that exact result. "But I take you're not very interested in exploring that possibility. Or... are you?"
That lingering question had a tone that was pretty hard to describe. Relatively calm and composed, but almost as if it had something more to it. Not like Amelie herself had thought much about it when uttering those words.
She couldn't dwell on that for too long, however. Naturally, Asher was already outdoing himself.
"Well, that sounded just slightly creepy!" She said between giggles. "I think that just recording those almost sickened faces after tasting the most awful drink ever made is more than enough, at least in my stead. The rest is entirely~ up to how you feel like being a stalker."
Before she could even notice it, the topic had changed drastically, and now they were talking about food. And the possibility of Wasabi beer permanently damaging tastebuds, as ridiculous as that sounded. Sitting upright again, Amy thought that the answer to that little question was really easy.
"Or... I can just not decide to not have the stuff that I don't like? Silly~ bets aside, I think I'm old enough to decide what to eat every time I sit down to do so." The expression that graced her face afterward was plain... weird, in a sense. Almost like it wasn't sure if it was a smile or a frown. Probably a bit of both. "I just hope you don't get these amazing ideas frequently. At least give my poor tastebuds some time to recover."
There was something that had sparked the teenager's curiosity, however. Who was stalking who? That question would probably deprive Amy of sleep for years to come. Except... not really.
"Yup. You have no idea." Her tone was relatively deadpan, at least at first. "I'm definitely following you secretly so you can invite me to taste awful things. Ain't that every girl's life goal?" Of course, she couldn't resist to let out a small giggle for long. "Maybe I'm just a crazed fan pretending to be a normal person. Who~ knows, right?"
After that explanation, the brunette gestured towards the bartender again, not wanting to interrupt Asher's tale as she ordered another drink; the digimon would probably gesture towards Asher in case he wanted something too. In either case, she'd adopt her previous posture as she listened to the redhead's own reasoning about it.
The teenager seemed to ponder his words for a bit, grasping a recently brought glass for a bit before beginning to talk. "Sides potentially awful experiences. I don't think blind dates aren't that bad. When it comes to dealing with unknown people, everything kinda has chances of backfiring, I think." A small sip was given before she continued. "Hopefully you'll remember your first blind date as a pleasant experience, though! Even if it's technically not a blind date? Guess that already being acquaintances or friends or whatever we are throws a spanner in the works, in a sense."
Was that an awkward comment? Probably, but Amy's current state of mind made her not care about that all that much. "It's kind of a relief that you're still trying to date after those... experiences, however." Being an actor must've been... pretty hard, in that regard. Not everything was as glamorous as it seemed, she guessed.
But that was probably a topic that was best left untouched, at least for the now. Or until Asher felt comfortable about it because she had the impression he wasn't at the moment. "That's a good way to see it, I think!" Another small, mischievous smile made its presence known before the next comment. "So... are they like on the TV? Even though... I don't think the TV shows parallel worlds and strange lifeforms on blind dates. But I could be mistaken."
Hearing Asher's own take on the matter would be interesting! And even if it wasn't, few things couldn't be fixed with some sips of her drink.

Providing a few rapid, innocent blinks, the teen took on an almost sad expression. "It would be devastating to be rejected by you!" Was he being a bit dramatic? Definitely! Cracking a grin afterward would surely emphasize that he wouldn't actually be that upset. "I'd run away, but this chair is actually pretty comfortable," he teased, while shifting to get even more comfortable. After all, they probably wouldn't be in any hurry to actually leave, right?
It was a wonder how fast a drink could disappear, when trying to keep up with someone else, wasn't it? Yellow eyes took a glance to his empty glass, before pretending not to have noticed it at all. He didn't want to drink too much faster than Amelie, either! This was going to have to be a carefully monitored thing! Or not. Honestly? Probably not. It wasn't often that he went out like this, anyway. Okay, considering the 'blind date' aspect, this was a first-time. But, that was beside the point.
"I think," he paused, debating on making a joke on 'thinking he'd like another drink', instead of directly tackling the topic. Instead, he tilted his head, while giving a small smile. "I don't really need to lie about anything," was the final answer. It was pretty accurate! There was nothing to lie about, if nobody prodded on the wrong topics, anyway! So for the time being, the answer was entirely truthful!
Though, was Amelie trying to convince him to start being The Literal Worst? It almost sounded like it! "I don't think that sounds like fun," he admitted, after a thoughtful hum. Kind of like the lying, it seems like you get better results when you're nice, too!" Then, he took a moment to think about it. "Sometimes. I guess if you get a fancy title about being worse, someone has to find it worthwhile." Usually those titles weren't that great, though. Asher would rather avoid them, honestly!
Just like he'd rather avoid filling his phone with pictures of Amelie! "Creepy? Nah! It would just be like a hobby! Everyone likes hobbies, right?" Not when they're that kind of hobby! Snickering, the teen shook his head. "Sounds like I missed the perfect opportunity to become your stalker, for real. What a tragic thing," he commented, sorrowfully. Eyes cast to the ground for a moment, to enhance dramatic effect, before taking another look to his date. "Guess I'm a pretty bad stalker!" Mostly because he wasn't actually one!
Asher couldn't deny that Amelie was definitely old enough to make her own decisions. And, if she wasn't, that would have meant she was far too young to be on a date like this! "Hey, sometimes it's hard to decide what to eat," he challenged, trying to lighten the expression on the girl's face. He certainly couldn't tell what to make of it, so it was best to try to avoid distressing her! Aside from the additional counter of, "what? You mean you don't want me to call you every couple of days, asking you to try weird food with me?" Asher's tastebuds probably couldn't handle that, either! "I was thinking squid ink ice cream, next time!" Why squid ink? It was the only thing Asher could think of as weird, on such short notice! Not that he actually wanted to try it! It sounded pretty gross!
The corner of the young man's mouth twitched, lifting to a small smirk. "I think you fell short of 'normal' after Digimon entered the mix, and you agreed to try wasabi beer," he snickered, softly. "But, hey, your life goals are yours! If you want to fangirl and try awful foods, by all means!" It wouldn't be the first time the actor dealt with a fair share of crazy! But, Amelie didn't actually seem the type! "Have to admit, you're falling behind with the crazed fangirl things, though. Usually those types are a little more obvious!" And, probably wouldn't frown about anything Asher said! Then again, Amelie was strangely tolerant of the redhead! Hm...
Worth the 'risk'!
During Amelie's subtle request for another drink, he took a second to confirm that he'd like one also. After all, where was the fun in stopping after one, if the brunette just kept going? The fun was probably not having any risk of hangovers, but that was worth the risk too!
Listening to the girl's response, the teen gave a contemplative hum. "I mean, it's kind of a blind date. Since neither of us knew who we were going on a date with." Kind of! "And, then I don't need to try to remember your name!" Terrible logic! Of course, it was a joke. Asher couldn't forget new names that fast, right? Best not to test it. Somehow, he'd managed to remember everyone's names he'd met thus far! At least, the important ones. Maybe that meant Amelie was important! "So far, I think it's pretty alright? Wasabi aside." Okay, yeah, wasabi beer on a first date probably wasn't the best first impression! But, it was likely an unforgettable one!
The ex-actor gave a slightly exaggerated shrug, lifting hands up a little in the motion. Then, moved one hand over to take a drink from his glass. "It's been a while since the last date. But, if I never gave it another chance, seems like I could be missing out." Or something. Was not getting a date with Amy considered missing out? Like he had already said, so far it wasn't so bad! Unless he ended up actually offending her! Then, it would be terrible!
But, was the date suiting for television? Yellow eyes glanced around the room, already taking another drink from his glass. "Sort of! I mean, I certainly wouldn't expect to see someone I already knew, unless it was a setup for an episode on TV!" Good point! He even had a counter for the Digimon in the background! Except, maybe, that really weird Venusmon mentioned earlier! "I think I've seen at least one show where aliens were present on a blind date. So, it's still not too far off!" Digimon, aliens. Same thing, really! Especially when some of those creatures looked like literal, stereotypical aliens! "We're just missing something hilariously great or awful happening, and then it's the perfect script for a show." Oh, please don't jinx it now, Asher! Nobody wants a disaster at a nightclub!
