Just Because You're Paranoid [Mission] [3/3]

Pekomon wasn't paranoid... he KNEW he wasn't being paranoid. Sure maybe the loss of a profit paying for these punks to guard his shop might be more than the loss of some of these items to begin with, but what if whoever is stealing this stuff starts getting cocky? A Hadouken or some fuzzy dice? That was nothing, but once these punks start stealing pricier stuff like the Digi-Port upgrades, that was when he was in trouble. The malletoid-like Digimon was pacing back and forth in the mildly homely store at Rustport Town, one of the cleaner and generally less trashy-looking buildings in the quaint town. He was waiting for his inpromptu shop guards to arrive, though he expected for them to arrive somewhat late. Rustport wasn't exactly the easiest place to get to, what with being situated in a desert. He did have hopes they'd get here soon... this whole situation was just a real pain in the neck for his nerves. Idly nearby, a Lalamon was busy dusting up the wooden floorboards with a broom, glancing over at Pekomon with the same blank stare that usually was on their face. "Are you sure this is even worth doing darling? Surely the money you'll be paying these goons is more than the merchandise that you are losing? It's probably just some bratty Rookie levels pilfering some of the store's posessions... nothing calling in mercenaries should justify."Pekomon let out a bit of an irritated grunt at his co-worker, pausing his inpatient pacing-around. "Lalamon, its not just the merchandise... SOMEONE has to set a lesson that thievery doesn't pay! What if it gets worse? That's why we need these punks!" he grumbled, before resuming his strutting about. He had the store closed this afternoon, so no one should be coming in yet... cept for him, Lalamon, and the guards he's hiring.

Dr. Cross was...unsure of being hired as a common guard, but it seemed like both an excellent opportunity to observe normal digital life and culture and a good way to get Cloak and Daggers feet wet if there was trouble. That and she was admittedly rather easily swayed by the prospect of getting her hands on a radio that actually worked in the digital world. The prospect of actually having music to fill the long hours of silence as they traveled from place to place beyond simply Dagger's chatter was a little too tempting for the young woman to pass up.
Stopping just outside the store the Kotemon Cloak and Zubamon Dagger close on her heels she paused to check the wanted add she'd taken to ensure this was indeed the right place. Confirming that it was the Doctor sighed, rolled her shoulders to adjust the long thin white Doctors coat she wore, the green medics cross on a white armband strapped clearly to her upper left arm on display as she pushed open the door.
"Hello? My partners and I are here about a guard job. My name is Doctor Cassandra Cross or Cas for short and the two with me are Cloak and Dagger." Cas spoke introducing herself and her Digimon as Dagger glanced around the store with his head half cocked in curiosity for once being thankfully quiet. The trio didn't look like much, the woman with her short blonde hair, delicate face, and kind eyes seeming far from the tough thugs one might want and though her rookies certainly seemed bright eyed and willing to work they could hardly be called threatening. Perhaps all for the best though as they'd be unlikely to run off customers.

The door opened, as a diminutive virus type strolled in, eyeing the shop with the eyes stuck to his palms, this place was pretty neat, he usually didn't enter shop-like places, due to how usually people didn't let him "Wear costumes" in the shop, as his basic form in the human world was often dismissed as a child in a costume. Of course, this WAS speaking of his life in the human world, he could go anywhere he wanted, in the digital world. Of course, this also meant there was far more dangerous, people could break into fights virtually immediately. A dangerous encounter with a Vajramon a little while ago proved that. As far as DracNos was concerned, the digital world was usually more trouble than it was worth, the human world was much comfier.
Of course, hanging around a shop and meeting new people, that was just fine, and if some thieves really came, he could beat em up, no problem, especially if he wasn’t alone. Speaking of, as he entered the shop, he spotted a group of three, talking about their “guard job”. Since he was a part of this, he assumed they knew he was coming, but introductions were important, so he’d need a closer look. The vampiric digimon crept up behind the twin digimon, peering at them closely, using his arms to examine each individually, but if they were to notice his presence, they would see sharp, red claws and peering eyes, one red and the other green, carried by a rookie-leveled virus type with an eerie mask and grin.

Basile could only sigh as he clung to Cinder's fur, having recently digivolved to her champion stage, she was refusing to turn back unless absolutely necessary. It was somewhat annoying...but he supposed he couldn't judge her too harshly, With her new form came new levels of power and a sharpness to the mental bond they shared. He sighed as she did yet another Barrel Roll as she flew threw the sky, he'd fallen off the excited champion twice now and she'd had to catch him both times.
The Aryan 19 year old began thinking back to the mission advertisement they'd seen, apparently some little punks had been painting the town red so to speak with a little crime spree and one of the shop owners had had enough of them. He wasn't really interested in a radio but the idea of manipulating the coding to show off was kinda fun, even if harmless. Essentially the group would be here roughly a week and would stay around waiting for the intruders.
As Cinder spotted Rustport and landed on the outskirts, she carried him to the store, still showing off. He heard his partner grumbling as she had to de-digivolve if she wanted to fit through the door. Ruffling her hair as he entered the store, he was greeted with quite the group! An ol--- more mature young woman who was apparently being tailed by two little rookies... and a Virus type, a Dracmon, which he knew via a prior interaction. Basile couldn't help but frown as he saw the little virus type doing something.
Cinder was having a blast in her Champion Form! Firamon was strong! so Powerful! And they looked so regal as well! It was amazing! She felt so much stronger and faster than before, even more intelligent! She giggled as she did another barrel roll, though her partner had a tendency to yell at her for it. He was being a big baby, he only fell twice! it wasn't like he'd hit the ground! she'd caught him!
Cinder spotted Rustport first, how could she not? having known what she was looking for and having much better vision than your average human. As she came into a graceful landing and folded her wings she heard her tamer let out a sigh of relief as they were finally on solid ground. She let out a huff as she carried him through the rustport township to the store. Eventually she came to her new forms archenemy, Doors. Doors weren't usually proportioned for someone of Firamon's size, neither were stores generally.
Cinder De-digivolved and entered following her tamer, spotting the client, an older woman but she didn't look 'old' old yet and presumably her two Digimon, The Dracmon however... seemed to be doing something...Scanning maybe? Either way she said 'It's rude to scan other digimon without introducing yourself, you know.' In a polite, if disapproving tone.

Sure enough, Pekomon's patience was rewarded as all manners of folk soon began arriving on-scene. The short woman and her two swordsman Digimon admittingly looked a lil' shabby-looking, but two was better than one as far as he knew. Certainly better than that impish vampire fellow lurking behind.
Frankly, he looked like the kinda sort of folk he'd have been keeping his eyes out for in the first place, but maybe it takes a shady fellow to catch some shady fellows! After all, they had eyes on their HANDs... that had to be effective somehow?
As for the last to arrive, Pekomon did have to give credit, the lady fire cat and her tamer knew how to make a freakin' entrance! He was one to appreciate style when it was applicable.
Overall, he was liking the looks of this setup! Money well-paid if they could keep his store safe for least a week! "Hmm... Well, I do like what I'm seein'! You all look like a grab bag of folks I'D not want to mess with if I were some petty thief!" he grinned a toothy smile, looking up towards the group.
Lalamon on the otherhand just seemed to sigh slightly, their expression becoming a bit more noticeably annoyed despite their species' normally passive stare. "Unnecessary I still feel. I really do think you are overreacting boss."
"I am NOT overreacting... I have some good suspicions that something fishy is going on in this store, and I want it handled!" the malletoid Digimon grumbled, but soon turned to face the group. "Well then... welcome to Rustport Wares and Enhancements! Our main store has since moved to Terminus City, but I'm still handlin' the original store! I take the trip here wasn't too harsh I hope?" he greeted the group, still smirking a grin, high hopes that this would be the answer to his problems!

At Cinder's comment the Kotemon slowly turned eyeing the diminutive vampiric virus type curiously and were it not for the fact his helmet prevented his face from being seen along with any arched brows he certainly would have turned the gesture upon the newcomer. As it was the rookie settled for tilting his head in a clear display of consideration, his hand resting lightly on the handle of the shinai tucked into his belt as his twin hearing the comment glanced over his shoulder to see what all the fuss was about. The second the Zubamon's eyes land on the virus type he jerks back slightly in surprise before baring his fangs in a mix between a snarl and a grin as he tries to figure out if this is one of the 'thieves.' Though the shopkeeps words disappointingly lead him to believe otherwise.
"It's rude to stare you know." Dagger rumbles out even as Cas sighs glancing down at the trio of small Digimon before offering Cinder and Aryan a nod. Turning back to the store owner she smiles.
"It always pays to be cautious. We'll be certain to take great care in looking after the shop and it's protection." The Woman explains hoping her assurance is enough for the moment until her and her Digimon can show it to be true with their actions.

DracNos stepped back, crossing his arms behind his back, "Sorry, I just thought I'd mess with ya a little, no problem, right?" He asked, placing a finger along the side of his jaw, in an exceedingly cheeky manner. Regardless, he did step off the boundaries of the two digimon, the swordsman digimon showing restraint and tact when dealing with Drac, which did irritate him, slightly, but it also meant they didn't arise to his behavior, so they won the little power struggle he had created by messing with what he found most called "Personal space", however, the digimon that was, in fact, a sword, gave just the aggressive reaction he was hoping for, before showing his apparent disappointment as to who DracNos really was.
"Well, I'm a dracmon named DracNos, but you can call me Drac or Nosferatu, if you wanna be fancy about it." He said, returning to the stance associated with Dracmon throughout the world, where they stand with both of their hands next to their heads, and he turned to aim his eyes at the other two newcomers. They might be uptight enough to overreact to some light teasing. If that was correct, he could have some fun with them. He then returned his attention to the shopkeep, "So... we're just waiting for some guys to show up for us to beat 'em up, right? Easy enough... Hey, do you got a space for... say... a champion level? Not a very big one, it's just my champion's good at finding things, smellin' and hearin' and stuff." He explained, shrugging, "might come in handy." He said, wiggling his hands to accentuate his statement.

Basile looked over the group of his...colleagues? teammates? whatever they were called, they looked competent at least. With the mission pre-req asking for champion all three should in theory be able to equal Firamon in strength. Pekomon, the client asked if the trip was harsh, to which Basile shook his head. It was much easier when you were getting carried everywhere by a flying digimon after all. Basile decided now was a decent time to introduce himself and his partner 'It's a pleasure to meet each of you, My name is Basile and my partner is called Cinder. I hope we can work well together'
A tad formal perhaps, but it got the general message across. Apparently the Pekomons shop assistant thought Pekomon was overreacting...If he were a suspicious kind of guy and he was, He'd say that behaviour was...off. Why would the shop assistant be against hiring night guards to watch the shop? It seemed rather fishy to him. Basile started looking around the shop and Basile realised that if Cinder were to digivolve in here, she could cause a large amount of damage.
So they had to hope that this Thief or Thieves backpedalled outside of the store first so Cinder at least could digivolve and attack. Though, if all of her colleagues could digivolve they might try running outright, facing three champions who were probably competent in close quarters in an enclosed space was practically suicide.
Cinder was more curious about her colleagues, she'd seen Dracmon before of course. But never seen one in action, apparently they could scan or something. Her other two colleagues seemed quite martially competent just by looking at them, the Kotemon was always competent in their fighting style as near every Kotemon possessed a Kendo Stick. Zubamon on the other hand intrigued her, she'd not seen one of them before. He looked quite dangerous just looking at him.
Each of the Zubamons limbs had claws, armour and even a blade sticking out of his helmet. Even so, She did admit what kind of burglar could possibly require this response? It'd have to be at least an ultimate for this kind of firepower. A singular champion would get destroyed by 4 champions working together to take them out. Hm.... She listened and waved when her tamer decided to introduce the pair.
Cinder decided to voice her curiosity outright 'Do we know anything about the thief specifically? Form or type for example? or are we going in blind?' The more information they had, the better for this kind of mission. As much as she didn't want to admit it, this seemed like it'd have to be more than one digimon to merit this response.

"So long as you mean no threat I mean no harm." Cloak murmured inclining his head as formal as ever clearly taking this whole job far more seriously then his twin who let out a soft amused snort at his brothers antics and settled for winding his way around his Tamer's pants legs. The Zubamon peered at this and that before he grew bored and started digging through one of Cas's cargo pants many pockets. Earning a light flick on the nose from the Tamer before she pulled a packet of beef jerky from another pocket, the appearance of the little crinkly baggie immediately making Dagger light up and handed him a piece before stowing the bag away.
"What's a Nosferatu?" The Zubamon asked speaking around the piece of jerky he was currently gnawing on in delight.
"It's a type of hideous night dwelling European vampire. Typically associated with corpses though I think Drac may be a bit too handsome for such a name." Cas explained a small smile curling at the edge of her lips as she glanced between her duo and the little virus type before leveling a thoughtful gaze upon the Dracmon.
"Honestly if we're going by Vampire the Masquerade as well as the old tales I'd say he reminds me far more of a Brujah or maybe a Ravnos." She joked offering Drac a slightly cheeky grin. Turning to Basile Cas offered him a smart nod far more polite in the face of his own manners.
"I'm sure we'll do well together." She adds acknowledging their own introductions.

Pekomon was actually likin' this bunch... a bit eccentric (he had no idea what Cassandra was talking about bruuhas frankly), but they all definitely seemed pretty keen. Perfect for this... he needed folks he could rely on to catch any funny business, and they all seemed liked a sharp bunch of weirdoes. "Ah gee... To be honest, no clue. I been trying to keep an eye for like in the daytime, but I don't ever see anything off then. I'd bet my job that it has to be something happening at night." he ended up gruffly responding to Cinder's question, she at least being on the money on approaching this job.
He couldn't help but smirk slightly from Cassandra's earlier comment about caution, he happy to see least someone on his side. "See Lalamon? She gets it." Pekomon snidely spoke to the small plant Rookie level (their blank eyes squinting slightly at the mallet Digimon), he nodding somewhat at that Dracmon. "That's the idea at least! I want you folks to be nightguards for the week... ya know, keep an eye out for anything weird goin' on while store is all locked up. If some crooks ARE coming along and stealing our inventory, that is where I need you punks to stop them!"
Lalamon just seemed to sigh, accepting that there was probably no way to convince Pekomon to call this venture off... Besides, it'd have been rude to shoo away these fine, young people so soon. "I sincerely doubt that there actually are thieves coming to the store, but we'll set you all up. Allow me to lead you all to your living quarters during your stay here at Rustport." the plant Digimon softly spoke to the group before leading them towards the back of the store (through a door with a sign in Digimoji that translated roughly to "Employees Only").

OOC - I feel like Turn order has become horribly Skewed. It should be;
- Haru - Cass - DracNos - Me
Right?
Basile watched Cassandra and her Digimon's interactions and followed fairly well, up until she mentioned what he presumed to be a video game. Although, looking at the little Dracmon, 'Hideous night dweller' didn't seem too far off in his mind. He wasn't even really being mean either, the little digimons unfortunate form looked like a witch doctors voodoo doll post Voodoo. The Kotemon and Zubamon on the other hand looked nice.
As Pekomon kept talking, Basile couldn't help but feel like they'd had this argument probably for weeks now judging by the comments Pekomon kept making. Sounded like a simple guard job, rest in the backroom for the week and stay up at night so the group could catch the potential burglars. Seemed Simple Enough.
The Lalamon gave a long suffering sigh, As if she'd had to put up with the Pekomons antics for a very long time, though was clearly still willing to put up with this newest antic. The polite flower digimon led them towards the backroom and basically told them this was where they'd be sleeping.
Cinder wasn't really listening to the conversation, as she was trying to figure out what kind of digimon was doing this, She'd effectively decided it was going to be a virus type, maybe a bit presumptuous but there was a stereotype for a good reason. Virus types were certainly the most troublesome out of the various types. Followed probably admittedly by Vaccines, some of them get kind of 'crusader'-ey and attack Virus's on sight.
There were different types of Vampire abominations... that was weird, why would you want multiple versions with different powers and stuff? It was just confusing the mythos. She got distracted from her thoughts by the flower assistant digimon taking them to their resting place. Shouldn't be too hard, she slept on her tamer most of the time anyways.

(OOC: Sorry for not posting, I'm on vacation right now so posting is pretty difficult since I'm out more often and I didn't bring a computer with me)
DracNos simply shrugged, at Cas's conclusion "I thought it sounded cool." He then considered the ideas that Cas proposed, he stared, blankly, at her. "Sorry, I don't speak french." He stated, in the quite frankly way, seemed to say he completely understood, when his own words highlighted the simple fact he didn't understand in the slightest. He then tapped his chin, thoughtfully, as they were all led to their quarters, "Okay, the Nos of my name can be that Ravnos thing, as well!" He concluded, seemingly to himself. "I can hang out outside at nighttime, long as someone chats with me out there."
He stared at his room, and simply glanced towards Lalamon, "You don't need me till night, right? Then I can just hang around outside. I'm nocturnal anyways, I'm just gonna hang around till then, alright?" He explained, stretching out his legs, crouching down and sticking out one of his legs, before shifting his weight to the other leg, sticking out the initially crouched leg, once more. It seemed he was set on stretching for now, as he kept performing different stretches, slowly making his way into his room.

(I figured we were more just going with the flow till combat happened.) _____________________________________________________________________________________________
"It's a World of Darkness reference, but yes definitely a brujah." Cas added with a soft amused huff as she ambled after the Lalamon with a smile. The twins were close at her heels as the Doctor took in the surroundings of the shop with a careful eye before sizing up their living quarters for the next week.
"The three of us are rather small. We can hide behind the counter on the off chance one of the thieves manages to get inside." Cloak, the Kotemon suggested as his Tamer nodded her approval.
"That would be wise. It's likely the thieves will think they're home free by then only to find another nasty surprise is waiting inside. Should they fail to get past everyone else we can come out to provide support." The Doctor added glancing over at Basile and Cinder.

As everyone heads into the backroom down a small flight of stairs, the first things you immediately are all able to note is that the room clearly is also doubling as a storage/maintenance room. One half of the room is filled with boxes of junk or wares that have yet to be placed on the shelves, the other half having a desk with a very old-looking computer monitor and a fan, the computer itself next to a mini-fridge under the desk. A couple of sleeping bags are curled up in a corner, ready to be unrolled if needed. There exists another pathway leading to what seems to be a bathroom and an even deeper basement.
"Apologies if a bit cramped, but it was somewhat short notice. Supplies don't come around too often, and the shop's on short fund as is... this lil' rendezvous is kinda costing me what I can afford to spend... but feel free to help yourself to the mini-fridge at least!" Pekomon squeaked out, he excitably hopping towards the small fridge and leaning his head towards it. "Nonetheless this is where you'll all be situated, least at night. Feel free to do whatever y'all feel is comfortable day or night... though heh, I do like that idea! Scare the pantaloons out of those weirdoes." he briefly added on, chuckling at at Cas and her Kotemon's suggestion. Frankly he didn't mind what exactly they all did in the daytime, long as they were keeping his store safe!
"One last lil' thing, store has a buncha cameras both inside and outside... that computer there will let ya keep an eye out for any funny business that might pop up, though I kinda admit it was made out legit garbage we found. Has kind of a problem with overheating, which is where the fridge comes in handy... Long as you all keep the power flowing, you should be all good! If it does crap out on you, just head down to where the breakers are and give it a lil' on and off... Rustport ain't exactly notable for its reliability with electricity, ya know?" the Rookie level rambled for a bit, eventually taking a deep breath before glancing at the group. "Heh, sorry... rambled for a bit there. Think thats everything I can cover... Y'all have any questions?"

Basile listened to DracNos and Cassandra's conversation with only minimal interest, unfortunately the realm of video games hadn't been one that he'd immersed himself in majorly though he did have a very small pool of games he could talk about, though it was somewhat interesting being able to play as various types of vampires could be interesting. Though he did note that the little Virus type seemed to be stretching, a novel idea. Could digimon even get muscle cramps? they were just data after all... though he supposed so was he at this point, being in a digital world and all.
While the comment fell flat due to Basile and DracNos's lack of knowledge, that fact that Cassandra was trying so hard to promote a healthy relationship between the rest of the team was certainly a point in her favour in Basile's mind. He nodded in response to the comment aimed at him by Cassandra and responded 'I'm more worried about the store receiving damage to be perfectly honest, 4 Champion level digimon and a potential group of thieves could very easily do significant damage and IF Pekomon is telling the truth it was roughly all he had saved up to recruit us.'
As Basile was led further into the complex and down a flight of stairs, he saw a truly ancient computer and monitor and approached it. Figuring out how to switch cameras fairly quickly, he began flicking through, checking camera angles and looking for any holes in the camera coverage. His time at Freddy's had served him well it seemed.
Cinder wasn't really interested in the little dialogue between DracNos and Cassandra, it wasn't out of any dislike though, she just couldn't follow the conversation. She hadn't played any video games, and even if she had the ones they were referencing definitely wouldn't be on the list, they would remind her far too much of the Virus type digimon she'd encountered, not to mention it'd be a pointless waste of time.
Cinder stretched out her small rookie body and decided to sleep through the day so she could stay awake later, if there was an incident her tamer would wake her up after all. Cinder moved over to one of the sleeping bags, picked it up and found an uncluttered spot out of the way that wouldn't be under anyone's feet and started to try and sleep.
